This Christmas Night
Whilst driving home this Christmas Night, I looked at the sky, and got a fright. A star, planet, or UFO there, Shone out on Earth ~ should I care? What was this sphere doing here, Spying on Earth ~ should I fear? Or was it just an innocent star, Lighting a path, near or far? Was it there placed, by a Superior Force? To foretell some deed, of course, That was to happen to us soon, Shortly, before the New Moon. Like long ago when a Star foretold, Future events on a Night of Old. Or was my imagination taking hold? Why did its eerie sound make my body cold? Was this a UFO in the air, Or just a helicopter hovering there? Perhaps a planet very bright, Shining in the moonlit night.

www.irishcentral.com/roots/top-christmas-adverts-irish-commercials Best old Irish Christmas adverts that will bring a tear to your eyeby Bernie Malone @irishcentral / twitter.com/IrishCentralDec 11, 2018 It might sound completely crazy but some of the adverts below you’ll find yourself holding back a tear.Guinness It might sound completely crazy but after watching some of these Irish Christmas adverts, you’ll find yourself holding back the tears. From the beautiful images of snowy Dublin in Guinness’ postcard-perfect ad to going home to your mammy’s house of Christmas, just like the ESB ad, the holiday season certainly brings with it some tear-jerking commercials. In the last few years, the Christmas adverts have become just as big a deal in Ireland as the commercials shown during the prime-time Superbowl spots in the U.S. No matter what new ways the creatives come up with to rev up our tear ducts this year, however, these old classics are sure to bring back the nostalgia of Christmases gone by. Read more: This Offaly pub’s Christmas advert will fill you with the holiday spirit: www.irishcentral.com/culture/offaly-pub-christmas-advert-full-of-holiday-spiritHere’s our pick of the top Irish adverts at Christmas: GuinnessThis beautiful advert has some beautiful shots of a snowy Christmas all over Ireland accompanied by specially composed orchestral music by Kevin Sargent. ************************** ESB This 1980s ESB (Electricity Service Board) that seems to have stuck in the public’s mind over the decade. The ad, set to Dusty Springfield singing “I think I’m going back”, depicts a son going home for Christmas and his Irish mammy preparing the house – something most Irish can relate to. ************************* Barry's Tea This radio ad shows some of Ireland’s great Irish storytelling. In just 1.29 minutes this advert brings you back to childhood in Ireland. The very phrase “Put the kettle on, we’ll have cuppa tea” at the end is sure to get Irish people thinking of home. ************************* CornflakesAlthough this ad is obviously an American ad it’s been running in Ireland every Christmas for years. If this little blonde angel’s “Ho, ho, ho” at the end of the ad doesn’t melt your heart nothing will. ************************* CokeSimilarly, although this ad is from the US, the sound of these bells on the TV means that the Christmas season has arrived. ************************* VodafoneThis Vodafone advert shows a fantasy world where people ice skate down the pedestrian shopping street, Grafton Street, in Dublin’s south city center. Although the skating may not be real, thankfully, the glistening chandeliers hanging on the street are. ************************ Meteor Here’s Meteor, another cell phone company’s ad, that gives a humorous slant on competing Christmas carolers on Grafton Street in Dublin.

one of my favorites... Frosty the Snowman | 1969 | HD | Full Movie | Christmas Movies for KidsAnimated Cartoons for Children Published on Nov 27, 2017
Frosty the Snowman is a 1969 animated Christmas television special based on the song "Frosty the Snowman". On Christmas Eve, a terrible magician named Professor Hinkle is called to the schoolhouse to perform for the class Christmas party, but fails. After, the children go out to play in the snow where they build a snowman and name him Frosty. Suddenly, Hinkle's rabbit, Hocus Pocus, hops outside and a gust of wind blows the hat onto Frosty, bringing him to life, delighting the children, but Hinkle, after discovering this as well, takes it back after the wind blows it off Frosty's head. The other children object, but he tells them that when they grow up, they'll learn that snowmen can't come to life and leaves. Hocus, however, runs back to the schoolyard with the hat and the children bring Frosty to life again. Frosty is amazed with all the things he can do since he is alive until he feels the temperature is rising, which could cause him to melt until they realize the only place he'd never melt is the North Pole. The children decide to take him there as they parade through town, shocking other people including the traffic cop. They reach the train station, but with no money to buy a ticket, Karen and Frosty to stow away on a train while Hinkle manages to sneak aboard, determined to get the hat back. Noticing that Karen is freezing in the boxcar, Frosty realizes that she has to get out. With Karen still freezing, they find the forest animals decorating their Christmas tree and they build Karen a fire while Frosty and Hocus decide that Santa Claus to help Karen get back home and Frosty to the North Pole. That night, as Frosty waits patiently for Santa, Hinkle shows up and demands Frosty to give him back the hat. Frosty and Karen escape him and find a greenhouse to warm up in until Hinkle catches up to them and slams the door, trapping them inside. Santa arrives and he and Hocus go to the greenhouse, only to find Karen crying over a melted Frosty. Santa explains to her that Frosty is made of Christmas snow and will always come back every winter. He then opens the door, letting in a magic Christmas wind, bringing Frosty back to life. But just as they're about to put his hat on, Hinkle shows up and demands he wants the hat back again. Santa warns him that if he ever does take it, he'll never get another Christmas present from him. He then tells him to write his apologies and on Christmas morning, he'll get a new hat. Delighted, Hinkle runs home to write his apologies in the hopes of it. Santa then brings Frosty back to life, takes Karen home, and brings Frosty back to the North Pole, promising to return next year when another Christmas snowfall comes. As the end credits roll, Frosty and the children parade through town. The townspeople also join the parade, including the traffic cop, and a reformed Professor Hinkle wearing his new hat. At the end of the parade, Frosty boards Santa's sleigh and they leave for the North Pole with Frosty altering the song's last lyric, saying, "I'll be back on Christmas Day!" Happy holidays and enjoy Frosty the Snowman 1969 in HD 1080p

Joke... but seriously when I was 12, I was helping my dad get my mom's present and bring it in the house after she went to bed. It was about 10:30 PM and we carried the gift into the house and I went back outside to close up the truck. It was a pretty bright night with the moon and it had snowed about 6 inches earlier that day. As soon as I stepped off the porch and turned the corner to walk to the driveway, as soon as I looked up, there was the biggest dog I have ever seen. I think it was one of those Russian dogs that protect the livestock from wolves. As soon as I saw it, I stopped dead in my tracks. I thought I was dead. But it just sat there looking at me with his head tilted to the side like he was curious. I just stood there frozen in place just staring at it I'll never forget the color. It was pure white. About this time my dad came around the corner and stopped frozen like I was. After about 20 seconds, it stood up turned around on our shovelled path and walked towards the driveway (I live in a very rural area) I remember it had on a red collar with bells on it. As soon as I turned to my dad to see if he was watching this and turned back, it was gone (my driveway is about a 1/4 mile long). I have no idea where it came from or where it went. We looked for tracks for about 45 minutes and couldn't find any which is strange because the snow was fresh with no tracks other than from the truck pulling in. I never felt threatened by it or anything it was just surreal and if my dad had not have saw it, I would probably question whether it was really there.” - Mike Whipkey www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2018/12/angel-in-woods.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters)

Santa Claus Stranded? Reindeer Are Mysteriously Vanishing from the North Poleby Brett Tingley / mysteriousuniverse.org/author/bbtingley/December 15, 2018 Santa Claus may have to find alternative transportation this year. Flying car maybe? A squadron of drones tethered together with carbon nanotubes? A 21st century upgrade would suit Jolly Old St. Nick just as well as that itchy red suit. From what animal does one procure fur that red, anyway? Suit aside, things aren’t looking too good for Santa’s traditional mode of flight. According to the latest “Arctic Report Card” issued by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Arctic reindeer are mysteriously disappearing from their traditional stomping grounds surrounding the North Pole. Can Christmas be saved? santa helicopterI’m sure he’ll think of something.NOAA scientists have found that reindeer populations are in dramatic declines and they’re not sure why. According to NOAA’s Arctic Report Card, five of 22 herds monitored in the Alaska-Canada region have dropped by over 90% and “show no signs of recovery.” Several of these herds have lost hundreds of thousands of individuals, posing a threat not only to the hordes of hopeful boys and girls anxiously awaiting Santa Claus around the world, but also (and more importantly) to the indigenous cultures who depend on these reindeer for their way of life. While the cause of the steep decline in reindeer population is still somewhat of a mystery, warmer Arctic summers are of course the prime suspect. What else? These abnormally warm temperatures have increased drought and parasites throughout the region and are awakening long-dormant diseases which have been frozen for centuries or more in the now-thawing permafrost. What’s more, warm summers mean more rain, which then coats the ground in thicker ice during winters, making it more difficult for the reindeer to migrate and find food. They don’t all fly, you know. Santa Santa will have to improvise in the age of climate change. It’s unknown if the reindeer population can recover from the recent sudden decline. While Santa Claus traditionally circumnavigates the globe with a team of reindeer, this year might have to be different. Maybe Santa should test drone delivery. If Amazon can do it, surely Kris Kringle can too, right? mysteriousuniverse.org/2018/12/santa-claus-stranded-reindeer-are-mysteriously-vanishing-from-the-north-pole/

www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/roy-orbison-pretty-paper-johnny-cash-771215/ Flashback: Roy Orbison Sings ‘Pretty Paper’ on Johnny Cash Holiday Special“Pretty Woman” singer covers Willie Nelson’s Christmas staple on Cash’s variety showBy Stephen L. Betts / www.rollingstone.com/author/stephen-betts/December 19, 2018 When Johnny Cash hosted his own variety show for two seasons on ABC in the early Seventies, each episode incorporated the feel of inviting viewers into the Cash home, with his new bride, June Carter Cash, and her mother and sisters, who performed as the Carter Family, singing along with the Man in Black each week. On a show that originally aired Christmas Day 1970, Cash and family, including his parents, brother Tommy and the country legend’s nine-moth-old son John Carter Cash, were joined by guests including comedian George Gobel, Opry star Minnie Pearl, the Everly Brothers and the Cash’s neighbor, rock & roll icon Roy Orbison, who was making a return appearance to the show. The episode, which featured a number of Christmas songs as well as a comical sketch in which Cash narrated a country-music version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, also featured a few non-seasonal tunes, but maintained a comfy home-for-the-holidays vibe throughout. Perhaps the most heartwarming highlight of the special episode was Orbison’s intensely beautiful acoustic performance of the now-holiday classic “Pretty Paper.” Penned by Willie Nelson late in 1963, the song was inspired by an encounter with an amputee selling pencils and wrapping paper outside a department store. The following November it became the first track the future Hall of Fame entertainer would cut at RCA’s historic Studio B after signing a record deal with the label. But by that time, the song had already been a bona fide hit, as Orbison’s version entered the pop Top 20 during the 1963 holiday season, as the country was grieving the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Perfectly suited to Orbison’s dramatic but never maudlin singing style, “Pretty Paper” will forever be one of the songs most associated with the late vocalist. But in the years since its release, the song has been covered by dozens of additional artists including Glen Campbell, Marty Robbins, Kenny Chesney, Randy Travis, Pam Tillis, Julie Roberts, Don McLean, Carly Simon, Chris Isaak, Robert Ellis and the Lumineers. The Christmas 1970 episode of the Johnny Cash Show will air Sunday, December 23rd, at 10:00 p.m. ET on GetTV, followed immediately by a 1977 Christmas special featuring Cash and Orbison along with Roy Clark, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/roy-orbison-pretty-paper-johnny-cash-771215/
