I'm finally going to get to see the new Star Wars movie. I know, me the Star Wars nut who goes by the name Skywalker on the internet is going to be the last person on the planet to see it but that is only because the evil empirical company I work for has been working me to death but that doesn't matter. I am about to walk two miles through freezing cold temperatures in the middle of the night to watch this movie...and it had better be worth it or there is going to be a serious disturbance in somebody's force tomorrow.

Yes, I did see the movie and I did like it because it was Star Wars. How could I possibly not like a Star Wars movie? Otherwise I have some mixed feelings about it. First of all the visuals were excellent. It's amazing what they can do with that CGI technology now. The fake stuff is starting to look more real than reality. You can't tell what's what anymore, which is good. I also like the fact that the battle scenes are looking more realistic when stuff blowing up and body parts flying and people screaming in pain. That's much better than the old routine where they get hit with a laser beam and just lie down on the ground and quit moving. The old ones were kind of lame. I also liked the fact that they managed to find some actors that looked very similar to the ones in the original movie. The guy playing Governor Tarkin looked just like the original dude which is amazing because the original dude was kind of weird looking. They also managed to make the X-wing pilots look and sound just like the originals. Biggs, Wedge, Porkins and the rest of them were there just as they were in the first movie. (and yes, I do notice stuff like that) I also noticed that Red 5 exploded which is probably why Luke became Red 5 when he got there. Now for the stuff I didn't like. I thought the story could have been better. When they said in the original movie that the Bothan spies had stolen the plans to the Death Star I was imaging lots of intrigue and people sneaking around in the dark doing spy stuff...not an all out assault by the entire rebel fleet. That was kind of overkill, but I'm sure the audience would rather pay money to watch explosions and laser blasts and ships zooming by rather than a bunch of people sneaking around in the dark doing spy stuff. I also saw a few things that didn't make any sense. For instance, when they beamed to plans up to the rebel ship why didn't they just transmit it to all of the ships at once since the entire rebel fleet was there? Why only make one copy of it to try to sneak back to the rebel base? And why did they take the copy of the plans to Tatooine to give to Obiwan to take to Alderaan to give to Leia's father to take to the rebel base on Yavin 4? Why didn't they just hyperspace themselves to Yavin with all of the other rebel ships in the fleet? That's where they all went but the ship with the secret plans goes off on some cockamamie route halfway on the other side of the galaxy? WTH? The thing that really disturbed me the most is that I found myself rooting for Darth Vader and hoping he would kick some serious butt. Don't know why I would root for the bad guy. I never have before. I guess all these years of having to deal with stupid people has caused me to be tempted by the dark side.

'sigh' the mighty have fallen...Skywalker has gone over to the dark side. Actually...if you remember...in the end Darthy (in his son's arms) turned away from the dark and the last you see of him he's with Obi Wan and Yoda...all is forgiven so you were..rooting for a good guy that hadn't happened yet but because you're a time traveler..you knew this and probably would have confused the heck out of Darth WTG intrepid leader Glad you enjoyed it

Circle the date, Sky--Dec. 15, 2017!'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' title confirmed to be plural and fans are freaking outPublished February 19, 2017
After much speculation, we now know that the title for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is referring to multiple individuals.
Because Jedi is both the singular and plural form of the word, there was a debate about how many Jedi were being referred to in the title for "Episode VIII." Finally, foreign-language posters let the cat out of the bag.
Thanks to the conjugation of adjectives in French, German and Spanish, there is no longer a question that there is more than one last Jedi in the film.
"Star Wars: Los Ultimos Jedi," the Spanish poster reads. If it was referring to one Jedi, the title would have read "El Ultimo Jedi."
But one question still remains: Who will the Jedi be?
The film will follow Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she continues her epic journey with Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in the next chapter of their saga.
The movie will also carry on the legacy of "Star Wars" icon Carrie Fisher, who finished shooting scenes for the film before her death in December.
"Star Wars: Episode VIII -- The Last Jedi" opens Dec. 15

Purist fans can go the no-spoiler route, but nosy ones can delve into every nook and cranny of the internet that promises leaks and previews. This article is for the latter type of fan. On Tuesday, Vanity Fair released the four stunning magazine covers coming in June for its special Star Wars issue, all photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz. (The late Carrie Fisher stole the show, to no one's surprise.) And on Wednesday, the magazine posted the related story -- surprisingly, not making fans wait to purchase the issue. Fans will want to go read it all and examine the photos, but here's a short version in case you're in a rush to fix your R2 unit's bad motivator. (Some of the details have been revealed in other places before, so if you're an obsessive fan, not all of it will be new.)
1. Luke, where've you been?Any Screenwriting 101 student knows to create drama by putting obstacles in your characters' paths. Director and screenwriter Rian Johnson says he actually wrote down the names of his main characters and asked himself, "What's the hardest thing they could be faced with?" And that seems especially true for poor Luke Skywalker. As stated in "The Force Awakens," a disastrous encounter with an apprentice as a Jedi academy he was running sent Luke fleeing to Ahch-To, the planet that's home to the first Jedi temple. "Luke, it transpires, has been living in this village among an indigenous race of caretaker creatures whom Johnson is loath to describe in any more detail, except to say that they are 'not Ewoks,'" the story reports. apnews.com/1b181e00f79240029ce5d9d5e04669b9/Ron-Howard-takes-helm-of-Han-Solo-Ron Howard takes helm of Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ filmBy JAKE COYLE June 22, 2017 NEW YORK (AP) — Ron Howard is taking command of the Han Solo “Star Wars” spinoff after the surprise departure of directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Lucasfilm announced their replacement director Thursday, two days after Lord and Miller left the project over creative differences. Howard gives the reeling production a veteran hand in the wake of Lord and Miller’s exit in the midst of shooting. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said filming will resume July 10. The untitled film, which stars Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo, is about three-quarters of the way through production. It has several weeks of shooting left, along with reshoots. Howard has shepherded Oscar winners like “A Beautiful Mind” and “Apollo 13.” But his recent films, including the “Da Vinci Code” sequel “Inferno” and “In the Heart of the Sea,” have struggled at the box office. He also has some history with Lucasfilm. He helmed the 1988 fantasy “Willow” and starred in George Lucas’ 1973 breakthrough “American Graffiti.” “We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie,” said Kennedy. Disney reiterated the film’s release date of May 25 next year, suggesting that — at least for now — the “Star Wars” spinoff will be released on schedule. Representatives for the studio declined to comment. How producers and the Directors Guild of America handle the film’s directing credit will also be closely watched. DGA rules govern the crediting of directors. Lord and Miller had previously been considered among Hollywood’s most sought-after directors, having turned “The Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street” into unexpected and widely praised comedy hits. But reports have circulated that the duo, who favor improvisation and irreverent humor, clashed with Kennedy and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan, a “Star Wars” veteran and executive producer. “Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliche is true,” the directors said earlier in a joint statement. “We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.” apnews.com/1b181e00f79240029ce5d9d5e04669b9/Ron-Howard-takes-helm-of-Han-Solo-

(CNN)For decades, fans of the beloved "Star Wars" franchise have gone far and wide to pay tribute to the world that George Lucas has created. They sell out movie premieres and dress up as their favorite characters. And now some even pay millions to get their hands on a movie prop. A complete R2-D2 unit sold for $2.75 million Wednesday at a California auction, according to the Los Angeles-area auction house Profiles in History. An R2-D2 unit from the "Star Wars" films sold at auction Wednesday. An R2-D2 unit from the "Star Wars" films sold at auction Wednesday. Luke Skywalker's 43-inch tall sidekick was assembled from components from the original "Star Wars" trilogy as well as "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" and "Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones," according to the auction catalog. The films were made between 1977 and 2002. Unfortunately, this R2-D2 won't interact with you. "No internal mechanics or workings are present," the auction house said. The droid is constructed of aluminum, steel and fiberglass, and is believed to be the only complete R2-D2 unit in the public domain, according to Profiles in History's auction catalog. The auction house called it "one of the most instantly recognizable pieces of pop culture in existence." The dome in the droid dates to the original 1977 film when it was used by actor Kenny Baker. The first time I saw 'Star Wars': 40 years of memories The auction catalog said R2-D2 units were upgraded as more films were made, with older components being retired. Before the auction, Profiles in History expected to fetch between $1 million and $2 million for the galaxy's most famous interactive astromech droid, according the catalog listing. The R2-D2 sale was part of the three-day Hollywood Auction, which also included Mark Hamill's lightsaber from "Star Wars: Episode IV: -- A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back," which sold for $325,000, according to the auction house. The droid was the most expensive item sold at the auction. The auction house cautioned bidders that special shipping arrangements would be required after the sale since the droid is in the United Kingdom. www.cnn.com/2017/06/29/movies/star-wars-r2-d2-sells-auction-trnd/index.html?sr=twCNN062917star-wars-r2-d2-sells-auction-trnd0400PMVODtopLink&linkId=39241641

io9.gizmodo.com/the-star-wars-theme-park-in-florida-will-include-a-comp-1796952453 Walt Disney World Resort in Florida Is Opening a Completely Immersive Star Wars Hotelby Germain Lussier / kinja.com/germainlussierJuly 15, 2015 Images: Disney/Lucasfilm via Disney Parks Blog Disney just announced that the Star Wars areas of their theme parks will be called Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. The studio also gave a few more teases of how this highly interactive land will work. Also: opening just outside of Galaxy’s Edge will be the world’s first totally immersive Star Wars hotel. A few months ago, Disney employees hinted to fans that actions would have consequences in the lands. We didn’t quite know what that meant—but at D23, Imagineers explained a bit more. For example, you may see Chewbacca around talking to Hondo. They’re up to no good and could be recruiting a group of people to go on a mission. So then you’d go on the Millennium Falcon ride, one of two in the park. Based on how you and your crew does on that ride (the ride will allow each individual person to have their own job aboard the Falcon), you could get some extra republic credits afterward, or maybe a stern talking-to. If you’re really, really bad though, bounty hunters might hunt you throughout the park, like a new one named Harcos. There will also be a Cantina—it was a hinted there may be booze there—and the music will be courtesy of a new DJ. It’s Rex, the former pilot of Star Tours. That’s just one example of how things will work. However, another major announcement has to do specifically with the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. There, it was announced, Disney is planning a 100 percent immersive Star Wars hotel. That means everyone there will act like they are in Star Wars. You become a citizen once you check in, and every minute of your experience will be Star Wars. You may even have the option to dress up as the character you want to be. Apparently, you are part of the story every minute you are at the hotel for your entire stay. Which, frankly, sounds a little scary. What if I want to sleep? We’ll have to wait and see exactly what this entails, but the concept art shown was pretty badass, including the fact that every room at the hotel will have a view into “space.” While both Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge parks will open in 2019, the one at Disneyland in Anaheim will officially be first. io9.gizmodo.com/the-star-wars-theme-park-in-florida-will-include-a-comp-1796952453

Now, two years later, Sphero has some new droids to add to its miniature line-up: the inevitable R2-D2, and BB-8's evil twin BB-9E. Just like the original BB-8 toy, R2 and BB-9E are controlled by an app on your smartphone that not only lets you control them directly, but also perform a number of actions like head-wobbles and sound effects, and even run pre-programmed routes. The pair will go on sale tomorrow, September 1st, as part of "Force Friday II." BB-9E will cost $150 and R2 will cost $180. But you'll have to be quick to get your hands on either. 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Stamps Hit UKBy Elizabeth Howell, Space.com Contributor September 6, 2017 New "Star Wars" U.K. stamps celebrate the upcoming release of the franchise's latest movie. Credit: Royal Mail Group Only a few short months before the next "Star Wars" film arrives, the United Kingdom announced eight stamps to mark December's release of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." British artist Malcolm Tween illustrated these stamps, as well as a previous stamp set that honored the 2015 movie "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The new stamps will go on sale Oct. 12. [Our Favorite 'Star Wars' Ships from a Galaxy Far, Far Away] "Aliens [in 'Star Wars'] are nonhuman species who live alongside humans, speaking either human languages or languages of their own," representatives from Royal Mail, the U.K.'s postal service, said in a statement. "Many aliens have distinctive anatomies, from the tall, hair-covered Wookiees, such as Chewbacca, to the diminutively shaped, short-sighted Maz Kanata. "Droids are everywhere in the galaxy," the officials added. "First developed in the distant past, they assist humans and aliens in every way, from flying spaceships and providing power to spreading war and terror." Each stamp includes a featured character as well as a famous spaceship or vehicle from the series. Also, the "droid" stamps have fluorescent ink that shines under UV light. The four "alien" stamps feature: Maz Kanata: This 1,000-year-old alien, whose race wasn't named in "The Force Awakens," gives Jedi knight Luke Skywalker's lightsaber to Rey, a young woman who appears to be sensitive to the Force. The Force is an energy field created by all living things in the universe. Jedi knights can use the Force in battle, and for other purposes. Chewbacca: Known as "Chewie" to his friends (including smuggler Han Solo), this Wookiee alien is known for his shaggy appearance, short temper and outstanding loyalty in the original trilogy of "Star Wars" (1977-1983). In "The Next Jedi," Chewbacca must adapt to a new ship companion, Rey, after the death of Solo. Supreme Leader Snoke: This alien (whose race is also unknown) was featured in "The Force Awakens" as Jedi killer Kylo Ren's trainer in using the dark side of the Force. Snoke, the leader of the evil First Order, previously ordered Ren to find Skywalker, and was also the behind the creation of the "Starkiller" (a huge planet-size weapon intended to destroy the New Republic government). Porg: These are small, flightless birds featured on the planet Ahch-To, where Skywalker now lives in exile. Ahch-To is also where the first Jedi Temple was located. "The Next Jedi" will feature these birds. The four "droid" stamps feature: BB-8: One of the heroes of "The Force Awakens," this orange-and-white droid was loyal to resistance fighter Poe Dameron. The last movie saw the droid forging new alliances when he got separated from Poe and met up with Rey and Finn, a renegade Stormtrooper from the First Order. R2-D2: This droid made a brief appearance in "The Force Awakens" after featuring heavily in the original "Star Wars" films (1977-1983) and prequels (1999-2005). He fought alongside Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker (who later became the evil Darth Vader), and also with Anakin's son, Luke. In "The Force Awakens," audiences learned that R2 has a map that shows where Skywalker is hiding. C-3PO: Anakin Skywalker built this droid to help his mother on his home planet, Tatooine. C-3PO was later a skilled diplomat in the original "Star Wars" films, although he was always very nervous in a battle. K-2SO: This droid debuted in 2016's "Rebel One," where he helped Capt. Cassian Andor's resistance movement in its battle against the Empire. The droid sacrificed himself so that his allies could steal the plans to the Death Star, a moon-size weapon that can blow up planets. www.collectspace.com/news/news-090617a-star-wars-space-station-patch.html Force-ful mission patch: 'Star Wars' droids feature on space station emblemThe ISS National Lab 2017 CASIS mission patch. (CASIS) The International Space Station appears alongside spaceships and droids on a new ISS National Laboratory patch. (CASIS/Lucasfilm) September 6, 2017 — That's no moon, it's a space station ...mission patch. The Death Star, the Millennium Falcon and three popular droids from the "Star Wars" universe appear on an official insignia representing the science now being conducted on the International Space Station (ISS) National Laboratory. The newly-revealed emblem is the product of a partnership between Lucasfilm and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), the non-profit organization that manages the ISS National Lab. "We are incredibly excited to link the inspiration brought by 'Star Wars' to our International Space Station, highlighting research that is happening right now in space," Gregory H. Johnson, president and executive director of CASIS and a former NASA astronaut, said in a statement unveiling the mission patch on Wednesday (Sept. 6). "This collaboration connects the scientific promise of the International Space Station to the scientific inspiration of the iconic 'Star Wars' franchise." The CASIS patch, which derives its overall shape from the Millennium Falcon spaceship and its inner border from the outline of the Death Star, features the droids BB-8, K-2SO and Chopper silhouetted against a sunset and looking out at the International Space Station above. It was developed by Doug Chiang, Lucasfilm's Star Wars vice president and executive creative director, who oversees concept artistry and production design for the films, including the upcoming release, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," in theaters Dec. 15. "The patch design is meant to evoke this same spirit of wonder when Luke Skywalker looked out to the twin suns of Tatooine," said Chiang. "The silhouetted droids and ISS set against a sunset sky with echoes of the Death Star and Millennium Falcon — two iconic 'Star Wars' vehicles that still captivate us — reflect this memorable scene." Nearby space station and a galaxy far, far away "Our job as graphic designers is to simplify things and in this challenge, we had to take something that is an entire Star Wars universe and then also the [real-life] world and blend those two worlds together," said Kelly Smith, the co-owner of Everly Design, who was recruited by Chiang to work on the patch. Smith and her colleague, Stacey Vogel, previously worked with Chiang on the early designs for the "Rogue One" movie title graphic. "Star Wars: Episode IX" is due to debut in cinemas in 2019 and it's unclear whether the movie will incorporate material Trevorrow might have already contributed. The second film in the trilogy "The Last Jedi," directed by Rian Johnson, will screen on Dec. 17 2017. Representatives from Disney did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment, but fans had plenty to say about the Abrams news on social media. www.cnet.com/news/director-j-j-abrams-now-onboard-for-star-wars-episode-ix/?ftag=COS-05-10aaa0b&linkId=42122916 J.J. Star Wars 'Anthology' Films Put On Hold - ReportBy George Marston, Newsarama Contributor | June 22, 2018
Lucasfilm has suspended development on its current Star Wars "anthology" films, according to Collider.
Citing unnamed sources at Lucasfilm, Collider reports that work on a rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film and director James Mangold's purported Boba Fett movie are among the planned films now on hold. Instead, it's reported, Lucasfilm will focus on 2019's Star Wars Episode IX, and a planned trilogy to take place after that film.
Collider's unnamed sources cite Solo: A Star Wars Story's relatively poor box office performance and lukewarm critical reception as factors that led to the decision. Solol grossed only $85 million in its opening domestic box office weekend, going on to earn a domestic total of $192.8m so far, four weeks into its release. Lucasfilm's only other "Anthology" film so far, Rogue One, opened to $155m domestic, and went on to gross $535m in its domestic run.
According to the report, Rian Johnson's recently greenlit Star Wars trilogy is not one of the cancelled projects and is still in active development, as are a potential series of films from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
The next Star Wars film, Episode IX, is due out in theaters December 20, 2019

So why are so many sci fi fans talking about Spock, phasers and the USS Enterprise? Even though May 4th is known as "Star Wars Day" (as in, "May the 4th be with you,") Star Trek is trying to one-up its rival space franchise with a big week of its own. Paramount is set to debut the highly anticipated "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" on Thursday for its streaming service, Paramount+. The series — which stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike and Ethan Peck as Spock — is a spin-off of the streamer's popular "Star Trek: Discovery" series and a prequel to the original "Star Trek." If that wasn't enough to send fans into warp speed, the season two finale of "Star Trek: Picard" — one of the streamer's biggest hits, starring Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard — also airs on Paramount+ Thursday. Star Wars is the more popular and far more lucrative brand (search your feelings, Trekkies, you know it to be true). Yet, Star Trek is the more vital franchise to its parent company. Although the Disney+ subscriber numbers have been boosted by "The Mandalorian" and Baby Yoda, the platform also has Marvel, Disney Animation and Pixar content to entice and retain viewers. Paramount+ is no slouch, thanks to Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and CBS. But Star Trek is the signature franchise for the streaming service. Lots more Trek Star Trek — which launched as a TV series in 1966 — has boldly gone where many brands have gone before: into the world of film, books and streaming. But not many brands have the same loyal following that Trekkies provide. Paramount+ wants to give that fandom, as well as potential new consumers, as much Star Trek content as it can. A constant stream of new Star Trek fare, from "Strange New Worlds" to "Lower Decks" to "Discovery" and "Picard," gets fans to sign up and stay on the service. It also helps Paramount+ stand out among the litany of streaming options. Paramount+ isn't stopping anytime soon. It recently became the exclusive home of the vast majority of Star Trek franchises, which had previously been available on Netflix (NFLX) and Amazon (AMZN) Prime Video among other services. That means fans can rewatch "Star Trek: The Animated Series," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Enterprise" and all the movies on Paramount+. The streaming service also includes the anthology series "Star Trek: Short Treks," and the kid-friendly "Star Trek: Prodigy." And there's more to come: Paramount announced earlier this year that a new Star Trek film would be hitting theaters in 2023 — news so shocking that it even surprised the stars of the film. And this week, Paramount said it was working on a "Discovery" spinoff starring Michelle Yeoh called "Section 31," as well as a series about the Starfleet Academy. Simply put, if you're a true Star Trek fan, you need to pony up for Paramount+. Star Wars still rules the galaxy With all of this excitement over Star Trek, Star Wars must be feeling a bit left out on its special day, right? Well, not exactly. Disney (DIS) and Lucasfilm released the new trailer to "Obi-Wan Kenobi" — the latest Star Wars series for Disney+ on Wednesday. The series, which premieres May 27, brings back Ewan McGregor as the Jedi master and has him face off against his former apprentice, Darth Vader. The trailer lit up social media for its brief glimpse of the return of Vader, stirring excitement for the latest chapter in the space saga. So even though Star Trek looks likely to live long and prosper on Paramount+, it didn't win the day. And as we all know, the force that is Star Wars will be with us ... always. www.cnn.com/2022/05/04/media/star-wars-may-the-4th-star-trek-streaming/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_term=link&utm_source=twCNN&utm_content=2022-05-04T20%3A01%3A51&fbclid=IwAR1qlVWREb-0ZsXGkncMNogISCQUHeI37BR8fH7ZDjGeMVFPvXN-gHwgQhQ
