When I moved to Canada in 1976, the winters were snowy. There was a small ski hill (T bar only). It got tons of snow and was a fun place to ski. Ten years later, due to increasingly thin years of snow, it closed. Meanwhile a big operation, with condos and two dining rooms etc open. This year (49 years later) the mountain did not have enough snow (two falls that auickly evaporated or melted) to stay open past Christmas. The local news (Vancouver) said that the Vancouver area (with three skiing mountains) was experiencing 89% less precipittion. No snow pack to feed the rivers (and ultimately supply the water to Vancouver). Last year, volunteers scooping dying salmon out of now cut off pools in what had been a strongly flowing river.
This year, the spring flowers came up in January. There was one snow fall down here which quickly disappeared. Snow drops, daffodils, and primula are blooming.
It's nice to have a short winter in one way...but this is highly disturbing. I never doubted global warming. Interesting to see that Fox News is now covering it. Too bad that the Presidents of the USA (both Trump and Biden) do not have this on their urgent much doing something list. I fear for my children and their children.

And, we have quite a bit of weirdness in our weather in my neck of the woods (Missouri).
Just this past Monday and Tuesday, February 26, and February 27, 2024, we had beautiful days of 70 degrees. Tuesday night a cold front blew in, and within 2 hours our temperature dropped to 30 degrees and we had a skiff of snow.
This type of weather has been ongoing. 2 weeks ago we had a substantial snow on a Friday; enough to make me hesitant to drive on the roads. It covered everything but the roads. The roads were slush, and because of the below freezing temp, we had black ice.
It melted completely the next day.
