For all of you older ..... people:
Holy Toledo!!... a walk down Memory Lane!
Mergatroyd! Do you remember that word? Would you believe my spell-checker program did not recognize the word Mergatroyd? Heavens to Mergatroyd!
The other day I overheard a not so elderly (let’s say 75) lady say something to her son about driving a Jalopy; and he looked at her quizzically and said, "What the heck is a Jalopy?" He had never heard of the word jalopy! She knew she was old .. But not that old. Well, I hope you are Hunky Dory after you read this and chuckle.
A friend and I recently reminisced about some old expressions that have become obsolete, many because of the inexorable march of technology. These phrases included: Don't touch that dial, Carbon copy, You sound like a broken record, and Hung out to dry. Back in the olden days we had a lot of moxie . We'd put on our best bib and tucker , to straighten up and fly right. Heavens to Betsy! Gee whillikers! Jumping Jehosofat! Holy Moley!
We were in like Flynn and living the life of Riley ; Back in the olden days, life used to be swell, but when's the last time anything was swell? Swell has gone the way of beehives, pageboys and the D.A.; of spats, knickers, fedoras, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, and pedal pushers. Kilroy was here, but he isn't anymore. We wake up from what surely has been just a short nap, and before we can say, "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!" or, "This is a fine kettle of fish!"
We discover that the words we grew up with, the words that seemed omnipresent, like oxygen, have vanished with scarcely a notice from our tongues and our pens and our keyboards. Poof, go the words of our youth, the words we've left behind. We blink, and they're gone. Where have all those great phrases gone? Long gone: Pshaw, The milkman did it. Hey! It's your nickel. Don't forget to pull the chain. Knee high to a grasshopper. Well, Fiddlesticks! Going like sixty. I'll see you in the funny papers. Don't take any wooden nickels. Wake up and smell the roses.
It turns out there are more of these lost words and expressions than Carter has liver pills. This can be disturbing stuff! (Carter's Little Liver Pills are gone too!) Leaves us to wonder where Superman will find a phone booth... See ya later, alligator! Okidoki.
You'll notice they left out "Monkey Business"!!!
WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FABULOUS 50'S ... NO ONE WILL EVER HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY AGAIN .. WE WERE GIVEN ONE OF OUR MOST PRECIOUS GIFTS: LIVING IN THE PEACEFUL AND COMFORTABLE TIMES, CREATED FOR US BY THE "GREATEST GENERATION ".

Some of our phrases are still going strong: Grin and bear it, [Grin and bare it?], Keep a stiff upper lip
Hi do I know you? And, Can I buy you a drink? Is, as I keyboard (is type still a verb?)being spoken in bars and pubs all over the world. And probably in situations where alcohol is not the universal solvent. Of panties (do people wear panties any more? Maybe little people.

WORDS OF WISDOM TO LIVE BY.... :-) 1 * Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue! 2 * Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. 3 * Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it. 4 * Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.. 5 * If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague 6 * If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.. 7 * It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others. 8 * Never buy a car you can't push. 9 * Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on. 10 * Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. 11 * Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late. 12 * The second mouse gets the cheese. 13 * When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane. 14 * Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live. 15 * You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person. 16 * Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once. 17 * We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box. 18 * A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour. 19 * Have an awesome day and know that someone thought about you today. 20 * Save the earth..... It's the only planet with chocolate!*

A Quora Post
Small business owner, July 10
Received an email from someone with an irsa.gov email account. Is irsa.gov a legitimate IRS email handle? I can only find IRS.gov emails online. The “a” is throwing me off.
Response You can never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever *deep breath* ever ever ever ever ever ever ever trust what you see in the “from” address of any email.
I can, if I want to, send you an email that says “from: supervisor@irs.gov”. I can, if I want to, send you an email that says “from: billgates@microsoft.com”. When you set up a new email account, you can type anything you want in the “from” field. You can make it “from: god@heaven.above” if you want to.
Never trust any “from” address.
Yes, you’re being scammed. The scammer probably wanted to make it say from irs dot gov but accidentally mistyped it and made it irsa dot gov.
You do not need to own the domain name to send an email with any from address you want. I can send you sn email that says from ceo-franklin@quora.com. I can send you sn email that says from general.franklin.veaux@pentagon.mil if I want. The domain name doesn’t even need to exist! I can send an email that says it’s from franklin@outerspace.gov if I want.

Today's winning Facebook post:
Maria Henry Gay February 6, 2020 Well, today didn't go as we hoped but it's in the hardest of times that we learn the best lessons and feel the most gratitude. Buffy was scheduled to have her teeth cleaned and removed today but Dr. Mac had a gut feeling she needed to look at some lab work before putting her under anesthesia. She was right; Buffy showed signs of advanced kidney failure so anesthesia was not an option and as a family we decided that the kindest and most loving thing to do would be to let her go before she lost her will to live and stopped eating and drinking. I wouldn't have dreamed of leaving Robbie out of this decision or not allowing him to be part of the entire process so I immediately went and picked him up from school. On the way there he told me he wanted to be the one to hold her when she went to heaven. And of course, I gave him that honor. On the way home I told him how proud I was of him for understanding the importance of caring for old animals and helping to make sure they never ever suffer. This is what he said... (And for those of you who don't know, Robbie was adopted from the foster care system after years of severe abuse and neglect.) "I know how it feels not to be loved or cared for and I don't want any animal of mine to ever feel that way. It's only sad for us when they go to heaven. It's a happy day for them. Thank you for being proud of me. Are you ok, Mom?" From the mouths of babes. (As our story is being shared more and more I feel like I need to add a little more context and also give you a deeper glimpse into the heart of my son. We adopt senior dogs. Robbie LOVES adopting senior dogs. He is sadly aware the longer a child remains in foster care the less likely they are to be adopted. He told me once "if all you guys had wanted was a baby, you would have never gotten me." He relates to our "old people" (that's what we call our senior dogs) in much the same way. He has also reminded me on several occasions that it doesn't matter how long you have something for how much you love it. I asked him what he meant and he said "well you've only known me for two years but you love me like it's been forever." Yes, my son is the coolest.)

As Halloween approaches.....
Here are five foods that are dog‐friendly and five you should avoid at all costs with your pup:
Safe for Dogs 1. Cheese ‐ dogs can eat cheese in small quantities. But before you treat your pet, it's important to make sure they're not lactose intolerant. If you're going to give your dog some cheese, opt for a low‐fat cheese like mozzarella.
2. Carrots ‐ raw and cooked carrots are safe for dogs to eat so long as they are cleaned and cut into bite sized pieces to prevent a choking hazard. Dogs tend to love carrots, making them a healthy treat since they're a good source of vitamins, minerals and fiber.
3. Certain Types of Nuts ‐ dogs can have some nuts, including cashews and peanuts, even in nut butter form. Choose more natural versions and avoid those that contain xylitol, which is a potentially poisonous (for dogs) sugar substitute.
4. Meat ‐ dogs can have meat including pork, beef, shrimp, fish and turkey. Make sure that before you give your dog any sort of meat all the bones or shells (in the case of shrimp) are removed and that the meat is properly cooked.
5. Corn/Popcorn ‐ unsalted and buttered corn and popcorn can be a really fun and healthy snack for dogs. In fact, corn is one of the healthier food options for dogs and is oftentimes a main ingredient in dog foods. Just make sure the corn is off the cob!
Unsafe for Dogs 1. Chocolate ‐ as most pet parents know, chocolate is a huge no go for dogs. Chocolate contains toxic substances called methylxanthines, which are stimulants that stop a dog's metabolic process. While no chocolate is good for dogs, dark chocolate is the worst due to the high concentrations of cacao.
2. Cinnamon ‐ dogs should avoid cinnamon. While it's not technically toxic for them, it can cause severe mouth irritation or low blood sugar. In powdered form, cinnamon can cause difficulty breathing, coughing, and choking.
3. All Other Types of Nuts ‐ while dogs can eat peanuts and cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts, walnuts and pecans are highly toxic to dogs and can cause vomiting, increased body temperature, paralysis, lethargy and, in extreme cases, can affect their nervous system. It is also a best practice to avoid giving your dog any variation of these nut butters. 4. Xylitol ‐ everyone loves a sweet treat every now and then, but some gums, baked goods and candy have xylitol, a sweetener that can cause an insulin release which can lead to liver failure in many species, including dogs. 5. Raisins/Grapes ‐ dogs absolutely cannot have raisins. Along with chocolate and macadamia nuts, raisins and grapes are one of the most toxic foods for dogs. In extreme cases the fruit can cause kidney disease or failure in your pet.

HauntedPlaces Keep your enemies close. Its easier to kill them that way. 🤔 How does one know who their enemies are? Especially if your enemies think this exact same way? Maybe, just maybe, it is possible to develop a decent relationship with your enemy this way….. somehow, you develop a mutually caring relationship. 🤗
