Goody for you, Cliff. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of really cool photos. I'll be able to take some moon and planet shots but I'm not going to be quite set up yet for deep sky astrophoto's at the moment. This scope does have an equatorial mount but I didn't get one with a motor drive. I'll make these upgrades as time progresses. Another thing I'll have to get is a t-adapter but I can modify without one using a homemade setup. The camera's I have are not DSLR's but will still work til I get one. I'm contemplating on building a homemade HD CCD camera because of the cost difference. If I would have gotten a scope with a high f/ratio it would have been several feet long and difficult to handle due to size and weight . It would've also been limited to lunar, planetary, and only a few deep sky objects. Instead, I ordered a shorter tube scope with a smaller f/ratio which is better IMO because of it's light gathering capabilities and wider field of view. It will be able to see nebula, many galaxies, comets, and with a barlow doubling it's low magnification it will still be capable of capturing quite a bit of lunar and planetary detail, but not as much as a long tube refractor. These were options I had to weigh out when deciding which one to choose, and I think I made the right choice. When I do eventually get all the accessories and everything sufficiently dialed in, I'll load my images to software available online for some great photos in the future. Until then, I'll just play around with what I have and will be more then glad to share. So happy !

The scope just arrived and Ive got it set up .It's a beauty ! Tomorrow the barlow lens for double and triple magnification should be in. I'll try to get some pics in soon. I can't wait for it to get dark so I can go out and observe. Kelly said I looked like a kid unwrapping a Christmas present ;D ;D

What a night so far and it's only halfway through !
This has been my best night observing ever by far. The night started off with the ISS flying over right at dusk as I was preparing the set up of the scope. I started off viewing the planets Saturn and Mars. Me, Kelly, and our neighbor were at awe over the view of Saturn with it's rings and it's moon Titan nearby. When the barlow comes tomorrow it should make the viewing even better.
As I was viewing the ring nebula in Lyra , (M57), A satellite flew through the field of view. It looked just like Hubble with it's solar panels fully extended. I saw another satellite come through with similar detail but different . All said and done for satellites so far makes 7 total that Ive tracked and viewed with the scope in the last 4 hrs.
The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) was spectacular also as well as a few other galaxies I was able to detect. The double cluster in Perseus was quite a site along with many other clusters and nebula. I panned through the milky way checking out a brilliant site from Sagittarius with many clusters and a nice galaxy and swept northward through the constellation of Cygnus. There I was able to see the North American Nebula, the Eagle Nebula, and the Dumbell nebula,,, just beautiful !
I'm now taking a break waiting for the moon to rise as well as the planets Jupiter and Venus, as well as the Pleiades cluster (M45) in Taurus. This scope is definitely worth it's weight in gold and I don't believe I could have made a better choice. The company (Orion) will be getting a great review on their scopes !

Cliff that's so amazing! The pleades were always my favorite thing to look at when I had a telescope when I was 15.. I had an old cheap one though so it didn't magnify things too much but yea...

Cliff that's so amazing! The pleades were always my favorite thing to look at when I had a telescope when I was 15.. I had an old cheap one though so it didn't magnify things too much but yea... The Pleiades are awesome,I agree ! They were one of the 1st heavenly bodies I learned to identify when I was younger . I just went out and viewed them as well as Jupiter,,,just amazing ! I was able to see cloud bands on Jupiter and 3 of the 4 galilean moons,,,one of them was hiding . A nice thing about the Pleiades is even binoculars or a small scope will show them well,,,it doesn't take much to see them,,even with the unaided eye. While waiting on the scope I stumbled on to a nice website called Nightskies network. There you can watch live over the net pictures from several different amateur observatories around the world if they happen to be online. You can chat with the astronomers while viewing the live pics. I really enjoyed watching the other night and even some solar observations from one today. There was some amazing detail and beautiful views of the heavens. Oh yeah,,,many Perseid meteors shooting across the sky also. The shower is intensifying as it gets nearer to maximum ! What an awesome night ! Cliff

Here's a pic of the telescope . It may not go through because I'm downloading straight from the computer. I was going to post a few astropics of the Moon, Jupiter, and Venus but while ago I was trying to upload from the camera to the computer and oops ! I accidentally hit format and it deleted everything on the memory card,,,,major bummer. ,,, As soon as the clouds roll out I'll get to it and post some soon hopefully. Attachments:

I'm keeping a close eye on the data of this recently discovered comet. By March 2013 it may become a naked eye object and show a spectacular display. Keep in mind that comets are unpredictable and may be better or worse depending on what happens within the next few months. I'm hoping for a good show...... C/2011 L4 (PanSTARRS)- It may display itself at Magnitude -1 !!! www.aerith.net/comet/catalog/2011L4/2011L4.html

Last night I took the scope out again and observed a lot of objects up there. One in particular was Orions Nebula. I knew the scope would show detail, but when I turned to it I was blown away by the view. It's going to take some time and several upgrades before I can post very many pics, especially of deep sky objects because the equipment is very expensive. I will be able to hopefully post some of the planets and moon soon I think. Ive already taken a few pics last night of Jupiter and Venus and need to process them through a program called Registax or something similar. With the planets and moon it's different because of the magnitudes . Astrophotography is very challenging, especially without a CCD (charged coupled device) or DSLR camera. I'm going to have to figure out a way to be creative with what Ive got til I can do better.

I have tried many times to question and try to rationalize in an open minded approach to what happened that night. I distinctly remember all of the events that occurred,,,at least what I sincerely do remember anyway. I know there was more to it,,,I just don't know what the rest of it is.
I do know that this same thing has happened to so many other people. Some have to put up with it still on a continual basis. I truly feel for those that do. I thank God that I don't ,,,at least anymore, but the memory is still there,,,every day.
There are so many people that do not understand this phenomena,,,be VERY glad ! I'm not looking for sympathy or pity,,, I don't even know anymore what it is I'm searching for,,,because I already know of the existence of these beings. I guess what I truly want to know is,,,,what in the xxxx are they up to ?

I know how you feel Cliff... ~hugz to you and Kelly~ I'd like to know what happened between the time when I "fell asleep" while watching television then "woke up" to see the grays... and I also would like to know what happened between the time the gray made me pass out and time when I woke up in my bed... What happened to us? Why?

What happened to us? Why? Honestly,,,I don't want to know what happened in between being awake and put out. When I telepathically warned this being not to mess with my family and the implications involved if they did, it looked at me with a cocky expression but it knew I meant what I was relaying to it. I read one of Randy's posts recently about his martial arts abilities and I have them too. Steve and I had this discussion over the phone about the possibility of meditation through martial arts as possibly being a factor to why I remember and struggled so hard to stay awake and I think he might be on to something that I hadn't thought of before until he mentioned it but it makes sense. I normally don't publicly discuss that much as I was trained not to but for the sake of trying to figure this phenomena out I'm making the exception. I learned the same art as Chuck Norris and my sensei actually fought and is friends with him. He beat him once by points, and lost the second time. This ability has saved my life a few times. If they wouldn't have had me paralyzed to where I couldn't move,,,I believe there would have been a total different result in this experience. Hugz back to you lorelei ,,,I'm so sorry that you went through this too.

This morning was beautiful . I decided to do some observing with the scope and pointed it at the planet Jupiter. I could see all 4 Galilean moons. I noticed 5 cloud bands and 2 dark shadows on the planet which appeared to be shadows of it's moons. After checking with Astronomy Magazine my suspicions were correct. They were Io and Europa . Io also transited the planet. It was really cool to watch. I then pointed it at Orion's nebula (M42). It was so beautiful that I can't put it in words. It's nebulous clouds spanned the entire field of view with dark and light regions emitting where stars are born in an area called an H-2 region. I had never seen it this awesome before except in pictures. Anywho,,, hopefully some day I can show all of you some pics when I eventually get rich and can afford the equipment necessary to do astrophotography. ;D

We had some damage to our town yesterday due to high winds and lightning from badly needed thunderstorms that ripped through yesterday. Winds reached around 80 miles per hour . I took a video of some of it from our front door but will have to wait to load it when I can get them processed since my usb connect is toast.
We lost power throughout the day yesterday along with about 20,000 other people in our county. Some houses and businesses had damage to their roofs and several trees came down blocking access on many roads around the area. Kelly and I watched trees doubling over at times with some damage on our block but none at our house fortunately.
One person was injured from debris and taken to the hospital.

Me too. Yesterday afternoon we just had a very nice shower. Enough to keep the ground wet today and cool our temperatures. Last night around 8:00 p.m. the weather and sky were beautiful! 66 degrees and soft gray/pink clouds on the horizon. I walked the dog long enough to see the first star peek through the cloud cover (we had about an hour of sunshine before dusk). When I say nice shower, I mean it really came down, but without wind, thunder, or lightening. Two days ago I heard loud thunder a bunch of times around 4 a.m. By the time I went downstairs the ground was wet but it wasn't raining. When I walked the dog I saw 2 trees that had been broken off at the top, within a block of my house . One was in a field nearby, but the other one was in front of a house, blocking the sidewalk. A large clean up crew was there yesterday when I came home from work, and I guess they decided to take down the whole tree. Cliff, we really do live in tornado alley. It doesn't seem to matter what month it is. Last Saturday we briefly lost power, and again, no thunder, wind, or lightening. Just heavy rain all day. This whole week has felt like a wonderful Spring day, instead of turning into Fall. Usually I have some idea by now of what our Winter is going to be like. I have no idea. The cicadas have quit singing and the butterflies came out to play this week. I haven't seen a single lady bug inside or outside the house. My dog and I saw about eight deer in the field last night. Where I park my car at work is by a line of trees and the crows have been cawing at me, and the squirrels making an irritated chatter ;D. Two years ago in this same spot I commented that I never saw (or heard) a squirrel. There were (2) large birds flying over our playground yesterday. It all seems ideal. Another "mild" winter would be nice, but then we tend to have a rougher Spring with lots of windy surprises. . .. I'll take snow over high winds and short bursts of thunder showers.

Thanks Lorelei. Glad you're o.k. too Jc. Yeah, last night after all the ruckus it calmed down here too and was just beautiful. Tonight also. You know what they say about Missouri weather. ************************************************************** Ive reported the encounter which happened several years ago on a few forums in the last 5 years or so. I 1st disclosed it on OMF, then here, The Black Vault, and now ufocasebook as of a few days ago. I feel it is important to get the word out concerning these visits. Some may look at it as if I'm trying to get attention to myself which is not the case at all but rather, I'm trying to bring attention to what is happening and let other experiencers' know that they are not alone. It's the last kind of attention I would ever want to bring upon myself. but I feel it's necessary for the public to know, regardless. Cliff

What's funny to me is I always thought it would be "boring" to live here. Not ;D. ____________________________________________________ I know you don't want attention, Cliff. I know you'd rather talk about other things ;D. I think it's good that several of you go to different web sites. And I'm especially glad that you are more comfortable these days talking about what happened to you. We do need to keep getting the word out; especially that we are doing ok, in spite of. . .

O.K.,,,,,,Sooooo,,,,,, another thing to add to the list . I had another paranormal encounter at 1:50 a.m. this morning I do believe... I was out observing through the telescope enjoying some nice views of deep space objects and came inside to take a break at the computer. I need to add now since it fits partly in with what happened that my son and his family (including my newborn grandson just came to live with us for a few. I heard a noise from the bathroom but didn't see anyone go in there. From the computer I can clearly see all vantage points of our 3 bedroom house . I noticed from peripheral vision that the bathroom door had moved. I looked over at it noticing it wasn't shut all the way so I thought maybe one of the grandkids had went in there and somehow I didn't see them. -----NOT!----- (I wished) I then clearly seen the bathroom door move and heard the knob turn ! I then heard this noise which Ive never heard before. It sounded like a child's toy in a sort of way. It made 3 musical "ding" sounds. I didn't take my eyes off of the bathroom door at any time. I wanted to see if one of the kids may have fell asleep in there because after this happened there was no sound or movement so I got up without taking my eyes off of the door and looked in and nobody was there. Everyone in the house was sleeping including the dogs. The cats were in the garage. I looked for every explanation I could think of to try to sort out what caused this,,,there is none. I tried laying down and going to sleep but couldn't so I got back up and went back out with the scope and did some more observing. I'm not going to let this bother me and I didn't feel threatened at any time,,,just a little confused as to what had caused this to happen. I have no explanation other than to add it to the list. Cliff

Wellll that sounds either poltergeist play or like you have some other taunting visitor. Since it happened in the dead of night what ever it was would also know everyone else in the house was asleep besides you. I'm thinking that since you've been observing..you've been observed and I think one way to attract this 'stuff' is to pursue an interest in it. Please be cautious

Sounds like a ghost possibly. How old is the house? If it's an old one there is no telling what might be creaping around in it.

Sounds like a ghost possibly. How old is the house? If it's an old one there is no telling what might be creaping around in it. The house I would estimate was probably built in the 1970's. It's a fairly nice quiet typical average middle class subdivision. Kelly and I are buying the home from my sis who has owned it for several years. Many of my family members had lived here previously throughout the years renting it from her before we decided to buy it so I'm familiar with it's past . I talked with my son about what happened after I chimed in this morning and he said his wife had an encounter recently at another place they were staying. He said that she had seen a light going on and off several times but that could be a switch or loose connection . I'm always trying to find a legitimate explanation but sometimes there just isn't one. I'm thinking this was a small child and I talked with Kelly about it also. She seems to agree. We don't feel threatened and as long as it doesn't become a problem, were all good with it. No worries for now anyway.
