This is my favorite Christmas song...by none other than...The King. It's kind of sad but it pretty much describes the way I feel sometimes being all alone during the Holidays. I love the violins in the background.

www.unexplained-mysteries.com/viewnews.php?id=239919www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/where-in-the-world-is-santa-google-and-microsoft-trackers-disagree-8430986.html Where in the world is Santa? Google and Microsoft trackers disagree[/color] Craig Timberg and Hayley Tsukayama The Washington Post Tech-savvy girls and boys, of both the naughty and nice variety, had two main ways to track Santa Claus online as he began his epic journey across the globe Christmas Eve. But perhaps they shouldn't look too closely as the two Santa trackers — sponsored by arch-rivals Microsoft and Google — offered strikingly different data points on the progress of Saint Nick. By mid-afternoon in the Washington, D.C., area, the Microsoft-sponsored annaD's Santa Tracker website had Rudolph and his reindeer friends pulling the sleigh over Romania. The Google-sponsored Santa Dashboard, meanwhile, had them over Madagascar. The variations were even more mysterious when it came to Christmas gift distribution. The Microsoft-sponsored annaD tracker had the number at 2.8 billion, putting Santa on pace for what could be a record output even by the standards of his legendary largess. The Google-sponsored tracker, however, had a number far lower, in the vicinity of 770 million — an output suggesting that Saint Nick was still in a recessionary mood and may be teetering close to his own "fiscal cliff," with a frightening crevasse of austerity looming below. Veteran Santa Tracker analyst Danny Sullivan — whose SearchEngineLand.com covers the rivalry between Google and Microsoft, operators of the two most popular search engines — guessed that technological differences probably were causing the confusion. annaD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, has tracked Santa since 1955, when a misprinted ad gave a number for Santa Claus that instead rang the command's red phone, more typically used for national security crises. A fast-thinking Air Force colonel began offering updates on Santa's progress whenever children called the number. Google sponsored annaD's Santa tracker from 2007 to 2011, but Microsoft took over the project this year, providing mapping technology and cloud services to help power the site. Google responded by creating Santa's Dashboard for this Christmas season, but Sullivan said the precision offered by annaD's satellites likely is superior, offering it the ability to lock onto the position of the sleigh within a matter of inches. "They've been doing it for almost 60 years," Sullivan said. "If you want to go for the most accurate location, you probably want to go with annaD." He said Google likely relies on alternative technology, such as tracking Santa's in-sleigh WiFi signal, causing a possible lag in showing his exact location. Sullivan also guessed that Google was using an algorithm to estimate the number of gifts delivered, while annaD might have the ability to identify individual gifts, and perhaps even smaller items such as stocking stuffers. I managed all my shopping, still sane, didn't have to do bodily harm to another human being, got reservations at Grand Cayman over New Years and she's paying. Now that is my idea of a "gift that keeps on giving".

rasimo.hubpages.com/hub/Where-Santa-Claus-really-comes-fromWhere Santa Claus really comes from Happy December 19th, Saint Nicholas Day!by Rasimo December 19, 2013 Santa Claus at home, preparing for departure Source: Santa Claus Tension is rising. It is almost time for Santa Claus to visit us again. Right now he is busy making lists of who has been naughty and nice, while the elves prepare our gifts. According to tradition, Santa lives on the North Pole. That is why he travels in a sleigh pulled by reindeer and wears a thick coat. But what is the history behind all this? How did Santa come to be who he is today? Santa Claus brought to the US by the Dutch“Santa Claus” is derived from the Dutch word “Sinterklaas”. Dutch immigrants introduced the concept when in the seventeenth century they founded New Netherland on the East Coast of North America. It was their folk tradition. On December 6th, Dutch families would basically put their shoe in front of the fireplace, sing to Saint Nicholas and receive gifts from him. Santa did look very different at that time. He was skinny and dressed like a Catholic bishop. This tradition still exists in the Netherlands today, and Sinterklaas has not changed his appearance much there. In the US, Santa Claus was restyled into his present form in the nineteenth century. Publications for children portrayed him as the more sociable, chubby guy we know today. By that time, the Dutch had long since surrendered their North American colony to the British. Dutch culture was only vaguely remembered, but still formed the basis for the tradition of Santa Claus. Interestingly, the Dutch do not think that Santa is from the North Pole. They say he used to be a bishop in Turkey and now lives in Spain. He arrives in the Netherlands each year by boat and his helpers are not elves, but black men dressed in colorful suits. Western European history related to Santa ClausIn fact, the Dutch delivered a distorted version of Santa Claus to the US. The folk tradition of Sinterklaas was a disguised version of the celebration of Saint Nicholas’ Day, a Christian ceremony. What happened was the following. Large areas in Northern Europe – of which the Netherlands are a part – had been Catholic during the Middle Ages. By the seventeenth century however, Protestants ruled. And they were against the Catholic tradition of praying to saints – Saint Nicolas included. Protestant rulers in the Netherlands did allow a limited form of the Saint Nicolas celebration to continue, after people had protested against a general ban. Religious parades and public ceremonies were no longer possible. Celebrating Saint Nicolas was tolerated only when done with one’s own family, behind closed doors. This is how the tradition of Santa Claus gradually lost its religious significance. Only a few very subtle hints to Catholicism have survived in the Dutch tradition. It is likely that placing Santa “in Spain” was a hidden reference to the Catholic world of Southern Europe. The Dutch were fighting a war for independence against the Spanish empire between 1568 and 1648. At that time, “Spanish” was a synonym for “Catholic” in the Netherlands. The Bishop’s clothing that Sinterklaas wears also suggests Catholicism. CONTINUE READING: rasimo.hubpages.com/hub/Where-Santa-Claus-really-comes-from

Shanti, Santhi or Shanthi (from Sanskrit शान्तिः śāntiḥ) means peace, rest, calmness, tranquility, or bliss.
The poet T. S. Eliot, in his poem The Waste Land (where he spelled it Shantih) translated it as "The Peace which passeth understanding"
May we all experience this, however briefly, this season.
PS: there's a baby arriving in our midst sometime around the new year - Lorelei's daughter. Blessed be!
