Just when the last really bad really scary drive-in movies have disappeared into the void (along with drive-in movies, courting in cars, etc etc) ...along comes a life form growing on nuclear waste: ttp://io9.com/5868883/mysterious-white-webs-found-growing-on-nuclear-waste This is off of the UFO Research Network site, on which some people post but little dialogue. OK - that link didn't work (although it allowed me to Google the topic). I don't get what I'm doing wrong!!!! GGGGRRRRrrrr io9.com/5868883/mysterious-white-webs-found-growing-on-nuclear-waste (Skywalker fixed this for me. I left off the effing h.)

This wouldn't be totally surprising to me if it is true. Life always finds a way. There is life thriving on this planet in environments that should have killed it long ago. Undersea shrimp living next to volcanic vents where it is super hot...other organisms living in the arctic where it is freezing cold. There is even a type of bacteria that feeds on oil. It wouldn't be surprising if one were to evolve that would thrive in a radioactive environment.

Interesting whatever it is, especially if it is a biological organism. If so, it will help validate the hypothesis that life can adapt even in hostile conditions on other planets that once wasn't thought possible.

That's if it is a biological organism. Some people have suggested that it might be some type of crystal growing there. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. I think that life theoretically could adapt to living in extremely high levels of radiation...possibly even thrive on it. I don't know if it ever has because as far as I know there was never a time when large portions of the Earth were radioactive. I suppose the way people are dumping radiation all over the place it will be sooner or later. I hope I'm not around to see it happen though. Of course, if it ever did happen I suppose none of us would be around to see it.

My movie mentality tells me that these things always mutate..spring to life and decimate life on earth...sigh...

Yup! Tendrils will be growing through the swimming pool bottoms and dryer vents. Just a matter of time.

The article above states that there are organisms that are radioresistant. One of them is called "Deinococcus radiodurans" and they have genetically engineered Deinococcus that can be used in the treatment of radioactive waste.
It would be a good thing if they could use it to remove all radioactive waste on the planet . There is so much of it now that they're having problems finding storage areas to keep it at because of environmental issues. Hopefully this will help provide a way to solve this problem.

I'd think it would be a good thing if this 'life form' is feeding on radioactive waste..gobbling it right up but..um..once it's gobbled all the hot goop..and it's a healthy, bouncing-whatever-the-heck-it-is..then what's it going to want to gobble??? The planet?
