Back in the mid 1950s i was in cub scouts and most of the scout leaders were Air Force personnel from Hamilton AFB which was near by They were interesting to listen to when they shared war stories of bombing Germany and the Japanese held islands of the Pacitic. They were a colorful lot of veterans who had really done the things of history. On a camping trip I listened to them talk about a UFO that had landed on the end of the runway at hamilton. Some of the men worked in the control tower and had good view of things The air police went screeching out to the UFO with sirens and lights flashing and the UFO took off just before the Air Police got there. Reportedly the head of the detail was greatly relived by that as he said he had no idea what to do went he got there, but he acted fierce getting there. the gresy do have a sense of humor at times and probably the landing was a joke to them Nothing was ever in the local media about that and I would never have heard about it except for the camping trip when the men told war stories around the camp fire.
Since that time during the time fo the Iran hostage crisis the battle of Hamilton field occured. In this case without warning sirens and alarms went off all over the complex and lights came on like a full scale invasion and war was going on. People living next to the air base were confused and alarmed thinking open war had started. They shared out guns and ammo to make a stand of it they took it that serious. Finally the noise and lights stopped and no explination was offered for what had happened. Maybe a playful UFO was back again.
