Ok gang, let's ask us a question, what are demons and what are devils. NO FAIR LOOKING UP THE ANSWERS. Personal opinions, is there a difference, like demons are thhe supervisors in Hell and devils just do the "grunt work"? Are all demons once were angels, as was Lucifer, or Satan and why the name change, if there realy ws one or maybe two creatures with one underlying identity? ever wondered why those guys HATE mortals sooo BAD?Does Hell exist or is it a state of mind? No theologians need comment. I can't recall any organized or unorganized that doesn't have good dieties/evil dieties, wonder why? Just something to ponder ovr since Halloween is drawing fast on us and supposedly a "high time" for workers of magic and those that follow the "left handed path."Attachments:

unfortunately there are many lunatics in the US who take satanic religion serious enough to be a threat to human life. The drug cartels are promoting a new religion for their henchmen that is a worshiping of death. Locally there are witches covens and such crap that I avoid and want nothing to do with. halloween is not the only time they get whipped up and can be dangerous.

Well awhile back I looked up the word "devil" in an OLD dictionary and learned the following: The root word of devil is Sanscrit for "dripping spring". The root dev is common to deva. From that I deduced that we remembered (up until recently) that a sacred place such as a well or spring might have a presiding spirit of some sort. In the Hollywood versions, the house with the green slime dripping down the walls turns out to have a well in the basement. (Cue in the creepy music). But other cultures had nyaids (spirits of water) who were comely and fled humans. So I suspect that there has always been in our mythology the concept of nature beings/spirits/entities who are ocassionally glimpsed by humans. Many Christian shrines feature a well or spring as well and the Virgin Mary has hovered over waterways all over the planet. The Virgin of Guadalupe was seen over a cattle watering hole in Mexico.
And while I'm on it - there were winged beings with human features like angels BEFORE Christianity and BEFORE Judaism. The Summerians and Hitties saw them as fierce and powerful (but not good or bad) beings. They were often guardians.
Somewhere along the line a choice was made by those in power to divide supernatural beings into good and bad. The Apocrapha (the parts of the Bible that were removed by the Powers of the time) contain many such stories of interactions with spirits/angels/etc. IMO The Devil as portrayed in the Bible was always a tempter for humans to go or do or think things that might lead to complicated outcomes. Hence Eve chomps down on the apple of knowledge and then hands it to her partner. Jesus is tempted (that he need not suffer the inevitable sacrifice of his life by cruxifiction) while in the desert. Free will is the common point here. It can be used in any way. Only when one makes a CHOICE is one free. Otherwise one is just being herded along.
As for demons - they seem to arise from medieval times when people believed that succubi came in the windows and ravished them at night. Or Inccubi. The artwork of the time shows twisted deformed little nasties in the corners of even the churches. The common point here seems to be temptation - to want the neighbor's wife or daughter, to touch onesself for sexual relief, to think unreligious thoughts while at church....again free will but with almost a guarentee of bad outcome if you chose wrongly!
I have encountered what might have been a personal angel. It suggested I take another course - including going home, eating something, having a shower, and going somewhere else where the object of my unrequited desire was not ever-present. I did that. I did feel that I was acknowledged as suffering even though I brought it on myself. Compassion with a kick in the pants to move along.
