www.prlog.org/11267375-ufo-investigator-nick-pope-discusses-the-real-files.html UFO Investigator Nick Pope discusses the Real X FilesLive Webcast Featuring UFO Investigator Nick Pope. A worldwide event with thousands of viewers planned to watch it from around the world! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRLog (Press Release) – Feb 01, 2011 – The eventNick Pope will begin the lecture by giving an overview of the British government’s involvement with the UFO phenomenon, which dates back to 1950, when the Ministry of Defense established a small committee to examine the phenomenon, known as the Flying Saucer Working Party. He will explain government policy on this issue and detail the way in which investigations were carried out. Nick Pope will then discuss a number of cases in detail, focusing on incidents that remain unexplained and on cases where the witnesses were military personnel. This will include discussion of the Rendlesham Forest incident, the UK’s most interesting and compelling UFO case. This took place in 1980 and the 30th anniversary has attracted considerable media and public interest. He will also discuss a number of incidents where there have been near-misses between UFOs and commercial aircraft. He believes this is a serious issue that is not receiving the public attention it deserves, largely because of the perceived stigma of reporting UFO incidents, which leads to many pilots failing to report incidents that should be of concern to airlines. Nick Pope will then talk about two Royal Society discussion meetings that were held in 2010, where the scientific and societal consequences of discovering extraterrestrial life were considered. Nick Pope attended both these meetings and had extensive discussions with many of the key speakers. He subsequently reported on these meetings on television and in newspapers, in his capacity as a freelance journalist. Nick Pope believes that it is important not to be afraid to ask speculative questions about humankind’s place in the wider cosmos. The question of whether or not we are alone in the Universe is one of the biggest questions we can ask. There are only two possible answers and arguably, either answer is both profound and disturbing. If we did ever discover extraterrestrial life, whether it be microbial life on Mars, or the detection of a radio signal from another civilization, we would have to reassess our own lives. While we would try to learn as much as possible about the extraterrestrial life, ironically, such a discovery might ultimately teach us something new about ourselves. Nick Pope, Author, journalist and TV personality, UFO-expert. Worked for the British Ministry of Defence for 21 years. In the course of his career, he served in a number of different positions, but is best known for work that he did between 1991 and 1994, when he was assigned to a division where his duties included investigating reports of Unidentified Flying Objects. Nick Pope has been involved in the program to declassify and release the MoD’s UFO files and send them to the National Archives. This involved selecting some cases that would be of interest to the media, making a film to promote the release and giving newspaper, TV and radio interviews to publicize the story. Nick Pope left the Ministry of Defense in 2006. He now works as a freelance journalist and media commentator, writing and broadcasting on a wide range of subjects, including UFOs and the unexplained, conspiracy theories, fringe science, space and science fiction. Nick Pope works with a wide range of TV networks and production companies, helping develop ideas for new documentaries. He contributes regularly to various news programs, chat shows and documentaries. He is promoting sci-fi films and advertising campaigns themed around the unexplained. He has worked for clients that include Microsoft, 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures and has been involved in promoting the movies The X-Files: I Want To Believe and the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Nick Pope lectures all around the world and this has included addressing the Oxford Union and speaking at the Science Museum and the Royal Albert Hall. Nick Pope has written four books, all of which have been published by Simon & Schuster. His non-fiction books are Open Skies Closed Minds, about UFOs, and The Uninvited, about the alien abduction mystery. Both books made the Top Ten in the Sunday Times list of hardback non-fiction books, with Open Skies Closed Minds reaching number three and staying in the Top Ten for ten weeks. These books have been translated into various foreign languages. Nick Pope has also written two science fiction novels about an alien invasion, Operation Thunder Child and Operation Lightning Strike. There have been discussions about producing a film or a TV miniseries based on these books. Nick Pope lives in London. www.openminds.tv/mod-ufo-hunter-weds-638/ Ex-Ministry of Defence, UFO hunter Nick Pope, weds during UFO conferenceAlejandro Rojas | Mar 22, 2011 Nick Pope, an international man of mystery and as close as it gets to a real life Fox Mulder in England, held true to his role by getting married during a UFO Conference last month. Pope, an author and journalist, worked for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) Flying Saucer Working Party (FSWP) from 1991 to 1994. The FSWP was started in 1950 by the MoD’s chief adviser, Sir Henry Tizard, who suggested that the matter of UFOs be taken seriously. When Pope initially joined the group, he, however, did not take the matter serious, thinking the whole thing “complete rubbish”. Although, given time and having researched the UK’s extensive files, Pope eventually changed his mind. Now he lectures around the world on the subject, believing that UFOs are a real phenomenon and one that does pose a threat to national security. Pope still serves as an adviser to the British government, most recently aiding in the release of the British UFO files by the UK National Archives, an ongoing process which garnishes media attention every time a batch is released. Earlier this month a group of files were released and headlines are still popping up worldwide regarding their revelations. More on the UK’s UFO X-Files can be seen in Open Minds Magazine Issue 5. Pope recently spoke to a group of influential business men in Saudi Arabia. Along with respected colleagues, such as Stanton Friedman, Jacques Vallee, Dr. Michio Kaku, and Dr. Zafghloul El Naggar, they addressed the possibility of extraterrestrial visitation as a part of the forum titled, Contact: Learning from Outer Space. The conference was encouraging out-of-the-box thinking as a way of enhancing global competitiveness. Some of the influential speakers of this summit included former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. TO CONTINUE READING & SEE PICTURES CLICK ON ABOVE LINK

Nick Pope, who worked for the MoD for 21 years, said the photograph appeared to show a “metallic” spacecraft, 25 metres in diameter, in the sky over the village of Calvine, near Pitlochry in Perthshire. Military jets in the background may have been escorting or pursuing the UFO. Mr Pope, who ran the government’s UFO project from 1991 to 1994, said the photograph was removed from his office before “mysteriously” disappearing. He said that when he challenged officials about its whereabouts, they claimed they had no record of it. The Calvine incident occurred on 4 August 1990 when two men saw a large diamond-shaped object hovering for about ten minutes – during which time military aircraft made a number of low-level passes – before it shot upwards at great speed. One of the men took six colour photographs of the daytime incident. In 2009, declassified state files revealed how the government briefed ministers and launched a top-level investigation into the incident. “There was a photograph taken at Calvine, and this was easily the most compelling UFO photo I’ve ever seen in my life,” Mr Pope said. “It went to the technical specialists at the Defence Intelligence Staff and elsewhere. Their results of the analysis were that this was the real thing – it wasn’t a faked photo. Now the interesting postscript to this story is that I actually had a copy of this. It was one of the things blown up on my office wall when I was at the UFO project. “One day the head of division took it down and locked it in a drawer because he didn’t think we should be displaying something like that.” Mr Pope said when the MoD released its UFO files, the photos and the copies that had been on his wall had disappeared. When he asked where they had gone he claims he was told “we have no record of where this went”. Mr Pope admitted his claims could send conspiracy theorists into “an absolute frenzy” and conclude the MoD had shredded possible UFO evidence. Nick Pope IS the real agent Mulder![/size] Posted: 03/19/2012 It was said to be one of the best photos of a UFO, and a poster-size image of it hung on a wall of Britain's Ministry of Defence. But then, at some point between 1991 to 1994, it vanished, gone, never to be seen again. On the day in 1991 that Nick Pope interviewed for the position of chief of the Ministry of Defence's UFO office, he could not help but notice the UFO image on the wall. "I went in for an informal interview, and anyone sitting in that office found their eyes drawn to that image," Pope told The Huffington Post. Other original pictures, negatives and the wall poster somehow vanished in the 1990s. Only a Ministry of Defence line drawing remains. The photo was one of six taken by a pair of hikers who spotted a strange diamond-shaped object in the sky over Pitlochry, Scotland, on Aug. 4, 1990. It appeared to hover in the air near an Royal Air Force Harrier jet. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the unusual object above the ground for nearly 10 minutes before it zoomed away at high speed. The 1990 incident was described in a batch of previously classified UFO files released by the Ministry of Defence in 2009. Pope told The Huffington Post that it was the ministry's official policy to obtain as much information as possible in the case of a UFO sighting, such as photo negatives. The pair with the photos contacted the staff of a newspaper that planned an article; the newspaper, in turn, reached out to the Ministry of Defence for additional information, Pope said. That's when the ministry requested and obtained the original photographs and negatives from the newspaper, he said. "From everything I know about the defense intelligence staff, they would have done that." The incident took place just before Pope took over the ministry's UFO division in 1991 to 1994. When he started his job, Pope couldn't help staring at the enlarged image of the UFO on his office wall. "It looked like a diamond on its side; it was three-dimensional, meaning it had some depth to it," Pope recalled. "It was a dull, metallic gray color. But the most disconcerting thing about this was [that] despite its large size -- over 80 feet in diameter -- there was an apparent lack of any real aircraft-like structure to it. A former MoD official who investigated the case told Scotland on Sunday that despite strenuous efforts they could find no earthly explanation for the craft. Witnesses reported seeing a large, diamond-shaped object hanging in the air next to a RAF Harrier above the A9 at Calvine, north of Pitlochry, on August 4. The UFO is said to have hovered for about 10 minutes before zooming skywards at high speed and disappearing from view. The apparent close encounter of the Caledonian kind was photographed by members of the public whose images appear to show a blurry, diamond-shaped craft next to a jet. Fearing the pictures would spark significant media interest, the MoD decided to bring it to the attention of the Government. A Whitehall official wrote in a memo: "Such stories are not normally drawn to the attention of ministers. "On this occasion, however, the MoD has been provided with six photographic negatives of an alleged UFO... and has been asked for comments almost certainly for inclusion in a forthcoming story." The memo suggested the media should be told that "no definite conclusion had been reached regarding the large diamond-shaped object". It has also emerged the MoD went on to commission a series of line drawings of the object the following year, noting that the "sensitivity of the material suggests very special handling". Former MoD civil servant Nick Pope, who dealt with UFO reports, described the image as the "most impressive" ever shown to his department. He said: "The MoD has all sorts of equipment and expertise that we used to analyse and enhance imagery to tell whether there were any signs of fakery. "This picture was assessed by our digital experts, who concluded it was a real photograph showing a solid-structured craft which was estimated as being around 25m in diameter. There were no wings and no visible signs of any propulsion system. It was exotic and unknown in a way far beyond even the most modern stealth aircraft being trialled at that time." Pope, who served in the MoD for 21 years until 2006, claims they were unable to come up with any firm answers about the craft and its origins. "I remember going to a briefing with the defence intelligence staff where the photograph was discussed. My opposite number in defence intelligence pointed his finger to the left and said, 'It is not the Americans,' then to the right, saying, 'It is not the Soviets,' and finally, he said, 'That only leaves...' and pointed his finger directly up." During his time with the ministry, Pope had a blown-up copy of the photograph on his office wall until it was personally taken down by his superior. He recalled: "My head of division removed it and put it in his drawer because he was convinced, wrongly in my opinion, that it showed a top secret prototype craft. "Somewhere along the line the photo disappeared, but I have no idea whether it was genuinely misplaced or whether it was treated as something we shouldn't have seen and put through a shredder." Meanwhile, another newly released file reveals how efforts to create a computer database of UFO reports were halted amid fears of a potential public relations disaster should its existence come to light. The aim was to produce a database which could supply information and explanations when ministers were asked questions in Parliament about sightings. A memo from March 1988 revealed the project was to be ditched because it "contravened" statements from ministers saying UFOs did not pose a threat to the UK. The official wrote: "I also understand that there was some concern about public reaction if knowledge of the work being undertaken emerged in the media." A further file insists that the death of an US Air Force pilot attached to the RAF was a "tragic accident" rather than the result of a UFO encounter. Captain William Schaffner's fatal crash into the North Sea on September 8, 1970, made headlines over allegations he was on an secret operation to intercept a glowing, unidentified craft. But an MoD report concluded: "There is no reason to suggest that there is any sort of UFO incident in any way connected with the tragic crash."

I worked for the Ministry of Defence for 21 years, from 1985 to 2006. I had a varied and enjoyable career, but by far my most bizarre MoD job was one that I did from 1991 to 1994, when my responsibilities included researching and investigating UFOs. UFO 300x225 The truth is out there... UFO expert Nick Pope talks about aliens (GETTY IMAGES) The MoD’s UFO project dates back to the Fifties and the wonderfully-named Flying Saucer Working Party. This had been set up in 1950 by MoD’s Chief Scientific Adviser, the great radar pioneer Sir Henry Tizard, who said that UFO sightings should not be dismissed without first carrying out some sort of proper scientific investigation. In fact, the Working Party’s conclusions were sceptical. Their final report – issued in 1951 – concluded that UFO sightings were misidentifications, hoaxes or delusions and they recommended that no further investigations be carried out. But in 1952 the MoD was reluctantly dragged back into the subject after a wave of sightings during a large NATO exercise, where UFOs were seen by numerous RAF pilots, and tracked on radar, performing extraordinary speeds and manoeuvres. The suspicion, of course, was that we were dealing with Russians, not Martians. However, the MoD and the RAF kept open minds and the terms of reference of the MoD’s UFO project simply involved investigating all UFO sightings to see whether there was evidence of any potential threat to the UK, or anything of more general “defence interest” – a phrase we carefully avoided defining. When I was posted to this section in 1991 I had no idea what to expect. I had no interest in UFOs and no particular beliefs on the subject. So far as I can recall, the first sighting that I investigated involved white, red and green lights not far from Heathrow! My conclusion, unsurprisingly, was “probable aircraft”. Most of the 200-300 sightings that I investigated each year turned out to have simple explanations: aircraft lights, weather balloons, meteors, satellites and various other conventional objects and phenomena. But around 5% remained unexplained and some of these cases involved sightings from police officers, military personnel and pilots. One of the most fascinating cases I investigated took place in March 1993 and involved a UFO that flew over two military bases. One of the RAF witnesses described seeing a large triangular-shaped craft which flew very slowly over RAF Shawbury in the Midlands, before accelerating away to the horizon many times faster than a military jet. Our first suspicion was that this was a prototype aircraft or drone – a new spy plane, perhaps. But our investigations drew a complete blank. The job involved more than simply investigating UFOs. A typical day might involve anything from responding to questions from the media to helping a child with a school project on UFOs. It was a fascinating job, but although I became known as the real-life Fox Mulder, MoD’s UFO project wasn’t quite as glamorous as The X-Files! naturalplane.blogspot.com/2012/10/former-mod-ufo-adviser-states-britain.htmlMonday, October 15, 2012 Former MoD UFO Adviser States Britain Has Alien-War Weapons Britain has a stockpile of aircraft, drones and weapons that could be used to fight aliens in the event of an invasion from space, according to the government's former UFO adviser. In an interview with MSN, Nick Pope, who worked for the Ministry of Defence for 21 years, said that while Britain doesn't have a war plan, it certainly had sophisticated enough weaponry to defend itself. Mr Pope, whose job it was to advise on the threat posed by other life forms, said that in the event of an attack he expected that we would "quickly adapt our plans for other more current war scenarios." At present, he said, there was no special organisation like Torchwood, the alien-hunting team from the BBC science fiction series of the same name, but he said he was sure that in the event of attack an operation could be set up quickly and efficiently. World nations would probably pool their technology together like in films such as Independence Day. Mr Pope said: "We do have several prototype aircraft and drones and other weapons you won't see on the news for another 10-15 years so if we did face a threat from the unknown then even if there is no Torchwood around now, there would be something like it by then and they certainly would have some great kit to help in the fight." He said: "Look at the Taranis, which is a prototype made by BAE Systems. It looks for all the world like a spaceship in the hanger." So are aliens a threat? The official government position is that UFOs offer "no significant defence threat". However, Mr Pope said what that really means is that "we don't know". "My colleagues and I said, whatever our official position - the one we gave to the public, media or parliament, - privately, where five per cent of UFO sightings remained unexplained, at the very least there has to be a potential threat." How would we fight? "One possibility would be trying to unite all the nations of the world. For those who think that far-fetched, Ronald Reagan once hinted at it in a speech to the UN. He said 'I occasionally think how quickly we would set aside our difference if we faced some alien threat from the other side.'" So why is the government looking at UFO sightings? "Between 1991 and 1994, my job at the MoD was to investigate the 200-300 reported sightings of UFOs in the UK each year to see if there was evidence of a potential threat or something of general defence interest. "One of the things that was interesting was that when people reported seeing UFOs these things were capable of extraordinary manoeuvres and speeds. They were much faster than our military jets so we wanted to find out about the technology and if we could find it useful. "Defence scientists were very interested in the fact they might have some kind of exotic propulsion system." So do aliens really exist? "I am absolutely convinced that elsewhere in the universe there must be other life and I am also convinced that some of that is going to be intelligent. I am open-minded about the possibility that some of that life is visiting us down here but just as our space programme is reaching out to find out what is out there, it seems other life forms could be motivated by the same thing." www.ufodigest.com/article/mod-ufo-files0401Former UK MoD's Nick Pope Joins UFO Digest as Regular Columnist www.ufodigest.com/article/former-uk-mods-nick-pope-joins-ufo-digest-regular-columnistMoD UFO FilesBy Nick Pope April 01, 2013 As the five-year program to declassify and release the entire archive of UK Ministry of Defense UFO files reaches its climax, it seems appropriate that I use my first column for UFO Digest to give an overview of what has unquestionably been one of the biggest UFO-related stories of recent years. There were a number of reasons why the MoD decided to release these files. The main one was that once the UK’s Freedom of Information Act came fully into force, the MoD found that it was receiving more FOI requests on UFOs than on any other subject. Releasing the files en masse and sending them to the UK National Archives meant the MoD could avoid responding to the hundreds of people making these FOI requests on a case-by-case basis, which was becoming an administrative nightmare. Other reasons for the release included the fact that the French Government had released their UFO files in 2007 (creating a precedent the UK would have found difficult not to follow) and MoD’s hope that releasing these files would be a good demonstration of their commitment to open government and freedom of information. The first files were released in May 2008 and subsequent batches followed every few months. With the release of the final batch of files in 2013, the program has entailed the publication of around 60,000 pages of documentation - much of it unclassified, but some which had been Secret UK Eyes Only. The files include policy papers and public correspondence, though inevitably it’s been the sighting reports that have generated most interest. These case files include the mundane (white, red and green lights seen over an airport), the disturbing (near-misses between commercial aircraft and UFOs), the amusing (a man who asked the MoD to help him win a bet on the existence of extraterrestrial life) and the surreal (a UFO is seen over a field and the cows form a circle in the center, silently facing each other). The release of these files has been something of a ‘blast from the past’ for me personally. Indeed, I wrote many of them. For that reason, even though I left the MoD in 2006, I was asked to become involved in the release program. I selected some cases that I thought would be interesting to highlight, recorded a promotional video for the National Archives and became the public face of the release, having written about them in countless newspapers and done several hundred radio and TV interviews, including shows such as Good Morning America, Nightline, Larry King Live and countless BBC news and chat shows. ufodigest.com/article/ufology-0201 UFOLOGY - CHALLENGING MORE CLICHESBy Nick Pope February 3, 2015 In last month’s column I examined various clichés, tropes and often-repeated mantras, debunking a few myths and misconceptions, and probably upsetting a few people in the die-hard debunker and true believer camps alike. But the whole purpose of this column is to be provocative and to stimulate lively debate, so with that in mind, this month I intend to put some more claims under the microscope and see if they hold up to scrutiny. With apologies, as with last month’s column, this may make uncomfortable reading for some. “Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m a skeptic myself.” If you’ve got skeptical credentials, it’s sensible to state them, and if someone like science writer Michael Shermer uses this phrase, and then goes on to tell you about his belief in something anomalous, that’s fair enough. But this statement, or a variation on the theme, is all too often trotted out by the most wide-eyed true believer who’s just about to tell you about their faith in some particularly dubious claim or sighting. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a believer, so there’s no need to falsely claim skeptical credentials, just to appear a little more discerning. “I take a scientific approach to ufology”. Unless you routinely (and correctly) use phrases like “testable predictions”, “false-positives”, “confounding factors” and “falsifiable”, you probably don’t. What people who claim to take a scientific approach to ufology seem to be implying (sometimes correctly, sometimes not) is that their research and investigations are thorough. They may well be, but that’s not the same as scientific. On a related issue, we have people who lie about or exaggerate their credentials when it comes to science. So we get two or three skeptical ufologists who are amateur astronomers, and not only do they misrepresent themselves as scientists, but they seem to expect their ufological peers to afford them the same respect as Galileo. Sorry, but respect has to be earned. One ufologist, who’s a college lecturer, misrepresents himself (or allows himself to be misrepresented) as a professor. Another ufologist, who’s a convicted drug supplier, once tried to bill himself as a “cultural historian”. Yet another ufologist, who runs an anti-Semitic blog and also claims that he once served in the military, would doubtless label himself as a “political analyst” if he thought he could get away with it. On this latter point, when any ufologist (skeptic or believer) claims to be ex-military, I strongly recommend that people verify their military background before even considering their UFO-related pronouncements. “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”. Yes, we know. “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary investigation”. Yes, we know that too. “Hello, I have my own radio show”. OK, this is the one that’s really going to upset a few people, but it’s time ufology faced the facts about this, so I’m going to major on this one. The proliferation of (largely internet-only) radio shows in the field is getting out of hand. There are a tiny handful of radio shows such as Coast to Coast AM that are professionally run and genuinely reach a large audience. But there are a myriad of other shows which are essentially just one man bands; vanity projects with a host who wants to be a star, and guests who think they’re already celebrities. That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of shows out there that are perfectly well-intentioned, where the host and guests simply want “to get the information out to the people”, to quote another cliché. However, “Welcome to the Billy-Bob Bowman Show, with your host, Billy-Bob”, followed by three hours of some guy with a blog waffling on about his theories on the New World Order isn’t going to achieve much, especially when many such shows have poor sound quality, poor production values, and considerably less listeners than they’d have you believe. Nick Pope @nickpopemod No need to be fearful of sending signals to aliens: any civilization with the technology to harm us already has the technology to detect us.

Well color that TOO LATE. We've been sending signals for years..not to mention at night we're a fairly lit beacon of a spatial welcome mat. I guess it's our audacity...our collective pride..that makes us figure we have more to gain by alien encounter than to fear. We still figure we're 'all that'...equals..could be great pals in space brotherhoods across the universe...without ever considering..we could just be lunch or slaves or just target practice. We don't ever consider the 'flip side'. I guess..what will be will...if there is some planned destiny...we might have issued a thanksgiving invitation on a galactic scale LOL.

digitaltoxic.com/blog/2015/09/28/interview-with-nick-pope-ufologist/Interview with Nick Pope: Government UFO Investigatorby TOXICated / digitaltoxic.com/blog/author/editoreng/Oct. 2, 2015 Nick Pope; Author, Journalist and TV Personality. Initially sceptical, his research and investigations into the UFO phenomenon, coupled with his access to classified government files on the subject, soon convinced him that there was definitely more to the phenomenon than what meets the eye. Nick used to run the British Government’s UFO project at the Ministry of Defence and is now recognised as a leading authority on UFO’s, the unexplained and conspiracy theories. Other subjects that Pope has looked into include Alien Abductions, Crop Circles, Animal Mutilations, Remote Viewing and Ghosts, and he has also acted as presenter, consultant and contributor on numerous TV and radio shows. Nick kindly took the time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions for Toxic Magazine. It has been said you were initially sceptical – how did you first become interested in the study of UFO’s? What changed your mind?I worked for the UK Ministry of Defence for 21 years, and from 1991 to 1994 I was posted to their UFO project, researching and investigating the UFO phenomenon in much the same way as the US Air Force’s infamous Project Blue Book. I had no prior interest in the subject and no particular beliefs about UFOs, though I was broadly sceptical. To me, this was just another government job (albeit a pretty strange one!), but the more I looked into the old files and the more I investigated the new sightings that were reported on an almost daily basis, the more I realized that there was more to UFOs than just swamp gas or weather balloons. What is your personal opinion in the UFO phenomenon? My personal view about UFOs is that we still don’t have a definitive explanation. Clearly most of the sightings are misidentifications, hoaxes or delusions, but consistently, over the years, a small proportion of cases appear to defy conventional explanation. Whatever the true nature of the phenomenon, I suspect there’s unlikely to be a single, neat solution to the mystery. In your opinion, what have been the most unexplained, intriguing UFO cases? The world’s most compelling and best-evidenced UFO case is the Rendlesham Forest incident from December 1980. This series of UFO encounters took place over three nights and involved numerous military witnesses (including the Deputy Base Commander) at the twin military bases of Bentwaters and Woodbridge in the UK – these were US Air Force bases on British soil. The UFO was tracked on radar and at one point landed, scorching trees and leaving radioactivity levels that the UK’s Defence Intelligence Staff assessed as being “significantly higher than the average background”. The events are corroborated by a number of US and UK documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. I teamed up with the two military witnesses at the heart of these sightings – John Burroughs and Jim Penniston – to write a book on the case, based on eyewitness testimony and government documents. “Encounter in Rendlesham Forest” is the only UFO book ever to have required security clearance from both the US and the UK Government. What conclusions has your research led you to?My conclusions regarding the Rendlesham Forest incident were the same as the MoD’s official conclusions, i.e. nature of object: unknown; intent: unknown. It’s one of the ironies of the best UFO cases in the files of various world governments: I can tell you what it wasn’t, but I can’t tell you what it was!
Why do you think Science should take another look at the UFO phenomena?Astronomers and astrobiologists are already engaged on the search for alien life, and indeed the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence. Some believe we’ll find microbial life on Mars, Europa, or elsewhere in the solar system, while others think radio telescopes may pick up signals or messages from other civilizations. All this is perfectly possible, but if you’re going to spend a lot of time and money looking for life ‘out there’, you should probably also check that the very thing you’re looking for isn’t already ‘down here’. Science isn’t about ignoring data, so it’s unscientific to ignore the UFO phenomenon simply because it conflicts with your personal beliefs. To be fair, some scientists (mainly within government) have looked at UFO data, but I’d welcome greater engagement from the wider scientific community. How do you see Ufology and Ufological activity in 15-20 years? What will fundamentally change – or won’t?Ufology is an events-led field, so in 15-20 years from now we’ll either have had some fundamental breakthrough (a smoking gun of some sort, perhaps in terms of a definitive and undeniable mass-sighting, or an official announcement of something that isn’t currently in the public domain), or we won’t. That being the case, we’ll either have resolved the mystery, or we’ll be pretty much where we are now. CONTINUE READING: digitaltoxic.com/blog/2015/09/28/interview-with-nick-pope-ufologist/

I think the last thing we really want is some kind of government control over UFO information. Oh wait..we probably have that..if there is information to be had. In a way it makes me laugh because we're so used to getting what we want like a pack of demanding children. If we can't get it by detente..we use force..we interfere in the business of every nation on the planet...trying to mold them into our ideal. This time..it's not so easy. If and when alien civilizations want recognition..they'll knock on the door..and there will be no 'experts' here at home just mouths dropping open and eyes popping. It worries some people...that maybe they have bigger guns. Well quit issuing invitations then LOL. I'm pretty sure this isn't something controllable..and when it happens it will be on other terms than ours. I think it might do us some good.

Since then Nick has remained a UFO expert and has been involved with the release of large batches of UFO files from the UK government. Although they say they have released their files, Nick says there is one more batch to come. Nick was a speaker at the 2016 International UFO Congress, he participated in a panel with Sociologist Ron Westrum, Journalist Lee Speigel, and former Congressman Merril Cook. We talk about that panel and the importance of the participation of a former congressman. We also talk about a panel Nick was involved in that will be part of a movie screening later this week. www.nickpope.net Re; Mr. Nick Pope...
In my mind, it is a waste of Human energy to listen to him, but to be fair; I am somewhere (guesstimate) around the middle of the ET presence learning curve, whereas his information seems to be '101' new-student of the subject information. I don't know what y'all think about this folks, but when I see a UFO TV show that presents Nick Pope as a co-anchor ET information-consultant/"world's leading UFO expert", I switch the channel to something else. He may be convincing to the clueless out there or the outright newbie to the UFO presence paradigm, but to experiencers such as myself, and I suspect that many of you here in the TEOR and elsewhere, that Nick Pope, with all due respect, is just another government, politically correct, talking head and his information is somewhat myopic in difference to what authentic experiencers have and-or are experiencing. I desire that folks not to infer that I am belittling Mr. Pope, as he repeatedly yaks the same 'shtick', however he may choose to repackage his information or to reveal a little more of it, all of which in its own value, portrays the honesty of his story as it appears to me that the story never changes, e.g., he's not fabricating new material just to keep the story interesting to remain in popular demand. The problem is not one of untruths, but rather that he reveals virtually little new information of value with respect to the wide spectrum of what is already known.
Mr. Pope's career is an interesting and an hoannable one, but in practice he was just a government employee, retired, who is now talking about non-classified general information. His secrecy clearance forbids him, if he was permitted to know anything really juicy, to talk about secret information. That is how it works in reality. His only value in UFOology, it seems to me, is that because he was an 'official' government employee, and that simple fact alone lends credence (in uninformed minds) to the general perception that ET might be visiting as acknowledged by a government 'authority'. It is through this implication that he is 'conferred' to be an 'authority' on the matter simply because he was a high-ranking intelligence officer.
It is a misnomer, in my opinion, for people to believe that intelligence officers are any more sufficiently trained to understand ET observational behaviors therefore promoting an advanced understanding of ET than that of general office-secretaries. High ranking military personnel and politcal managers are nearly always 'paper pushers', being general administrative personnel, rather than technical specialists. The people, who at least would have some understanding of ET behaviors, or understand the differences between Human behaviors and suspected ET, are the multi-disciplined research-psychologists, they are the specialists. So the question becomes, what value has "the world's leading expert in UFOs" (from Mr. Pope's website) produced that extends the overall database of Human understanding of ET presence behavior? There have been lots of sightings, but what does it all mean? That is why psychologists are the trained behavioralists that likely have some understanding of the matter beyond the huge growing piles of sighting reports.
It is interesting to consider the number of Ph.D. psychologists who are affiliated with the SETI Institute, and also to consider the number of those specialists who work for folks that exhibit a serious interest and who fund ET presence studies science, folks such Paul Allen (technical-partner - MicroSoft cofounder, president of Interval, a Technical-Remote-Viewing company), Robert Bigelow's BAAAS aerospace company (has a classified teaming contract with Boeing, and NASA), and formerly for the late Laurence Rockefeller (who funded many Near-Earth-ET-Studies (NEETS) scientists and ET science study programs, the data produced were published both privately and through the JSE journal). There are many others out there who hire the Ph.D. research psychologists for analyzing and attempting to understand observable ET presence behaviors along with the multidiscipline scientist such as physicists. The seriously interested, wealthy businessmen don't typically hire intelligence officers, "they just don't have any data." If they do hire intelligence officers, it is to gain the ability to manage vitally important sensitive information.
Nick Pope, is yakking the same type info that was 'revealed' to the public via the US Air-Force's "Project Blue-Book", the Condom Report. So, what sneakiness is Britain up to? What is the UK's hidden intelligence agenda in 'allowing' an ex-government intelligence employee to publicly yak about ET? More groomed global dis-information? Ever notice the difference between Pope's information and those infrequent revelations by the CNES, the French UFO government study agency? The main difference is science, not stories.
So if you are a newbie to subjects relating to suspected ET presence observations, and are somewhere along the bottom of the ET Presence/Contact learning-curve, I recommend that you bone-up by following Nick Pope and his revelations, because from that vantage his story exhibits significant usefulness, certainly more so than the Condom-Report did. He tells his story, the same one, every time. Unlike many of the other 'ET experts' (aka "babblers") on both 'sides of the pond' via the US and UK UFO paid lecture circuit; where those stories continually evolve with time; simply to keep their story fresh, exciting, selling lots of more paid lecture tickets, unlike Nick Pope's story which is based at least in his government constrained official revelation of the truth of ET presence.plutronustheedgeofreality.proboards.com/post/71611/quote/345The Edge of Reality > Other UFO Topics > Nick Pope 09-19-2017, plutronus

www.express.co.uk/news/weird/907037/Pentagon-UFO-government-UFO-source-aliens-existEXCLUSIVE: Ex-government UFO agent says aliens DO EXIST and addresses ‘cover-up’ claim AN INVESTIGATOR who spent years pouring over the UFO phenomenon for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has spoken exclusively to Express.co.uk about claims intelligent aliens are living here on Earth and the explosive story is covered up by world leaders.By Jon Austin PUBLISHED: Fri, Jan 19, 2018 Nick Pope worked for the British MoD from 1985 to 2006, and between 1991 to 1994 ran extensive enquiries into any potential defence threat posed by the UFO phenomenon. The project was shut down with the conclusion there was no threat. Now based in the US, Mr Pope tours the globe speaking at UFO and alien-related conferences, as well as describing on documentaries what he has unearthed. However, when it came to revealing his true beliefs about whether intelligent aliens exist and are here on Earth - but hidden by a global cover up as thousands of conspiracy theorists and so-called truth seekers believe - Mr Pope has always played a close hand. For years alien believers have claimed the US Government, and possibly others, have encountered visiting aliens, and allowed them to operate unseen in hidden underground bases, from where they research our planet. In return for this, government’s assess the technology which allows them to get here. Various theories even suggest a vast array of species live here including reptilians, greys, and the human-like "Tall Whites" or Pleiadians. High profile believers have included the later NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell and Paul Hellyer, a former Canadian Minister for Defence. Express.co.uk asked Mr Pope to come clean about his view of this and other theories for the first time, and he did not hold back. The 52-year-old revealed he is convinced aliens exist, somewhere out there in the Universe. However, in a blow to alien hunters, he said he is NOT satisfied there has been any "smoking gun" evidence that any have ever visited Earth. And, he categorically said he does NOT believe ANY of the conspiracy theories about aliens secretly hidden in top-secret bunkers and working with global governments. Scientifically, he is not convinced that aliens could even make it to Earth. If there are any UFOs arriving from other planets, they "would only be automated probes or craft controlled by artificial intelligence," he added. We quizzed Mr Pope in the wake of last month's revelations that the US Department of Defence (DoD) had been engaged in a top-secret project to look at the potential threat of UFO from 2007 to 2012. The US had previously denied any interest in UFOs since the 1960s, but the Pentagon has now confirmed the existence of the Advanced Aerial Threat Identification Program (AATIP). Mr Pope said: "Like most people who take an interest in the UFO phenomenon, I've thought carefully about my beliefs in the light of the recent revelations concerning the Pentagon's UFO project. "The story was undoubtedly a major one. The US government had consistently stated they had no interest in UFOs and that UFO sightings weren't being investigated. "We now know that there was official interest, and that sightings were being investigated. "Moreover, the Pentagon's AATIP project had amassed some intriguing evidence: testimony from military witnesses, videos of military jets chasing unidentified objects, and alloys and other materials that it's claimed came from unspecified UFO incidents." He said some of the people involved with this Pentagon project came to believe that a number of these unidentified objects were extraterrestrial in origin. Mr Pope added: "This is a big deal, and should lead to a reframing of the debate about UFOs. For the time being, however, there's still no smoking gun. "In many ways AATIP was no different from the British government's UFO project, which I ran in the Nineties: we too had numerous cases with military witnesses; we had photos and videos - on occasion taken with gun cameras from RAF jets; and from time to time we discussed the possibility that some of these sightings might be extraterrestrial in origin." So where does that leave him on the issue? WATCH VIDEO & CONTINUE READING: www.express.co.uk/news/weird/907037/Pentagon-UFO-government-UFO-source-aliens-exist
