mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/03/monsters-mysteries-and-the-lovers-lane-phenomenon/ Monsters, Mysteries and the “Lovers Lane” Phenomenonby Nick Redfern / mysteriousuniverse.org/author/nredfern/ March 22, 2019 Between late 1966 and December of 1967, the people of Point Pleasant, West Virginia found themselves in the icy grip of a fear-inducing monster. It became infamously known as the Mothman. Its name was most apt: the creature was described as being humanoid in form, but with a large pair of dark wings, and a pair of eyes that blazed menacingly. Numerous encounters with the beast were reported, all of them creating overwhelming terror in those that crossed its path. People saw the man-beast soaring the sky late at night, lit up by a powerful moon. It chased terrified drivers on the dark roads around town – and matters all culminated in the collapse of Point Pleasant’s Silver Bridge, in December 1967. Dozens of those on the bridge at the time lost their lives, their vehicles plummeting into the churning waters below. Today, there are two prevailing theories: that either the Mothman caused the disaster; or that, in its strange, own way, it tried to warn people when the tragedy was looming large. The jury is still very much out on that one. It’s most interesting to note that a number of the initial sightings of the monster occurred at Point Pleasant’s very own “Lovers Lane.” It was a place that, locally, was known as “the TNT area.” There was a very good reason for that. And it had nothing to do with explosive fun on the backseats of cars. Today, the area is called the McClintic Wildlife Management Area. Back in the Second World War, though, there existed around five miles outside of town a processing plant for the production of TNT – hence the name. As for the storage area of the TNT, it was a nearby place in the woods where a number of secure, igloo-like buildings were constructed to house the highly dangerous and volatile materials. It was a bustling area, an important military facility that helped the Allies to overcome the hordes of crazy Adolf Hitler. Indeed, at the height of things, more than 3,000 people were employed at the factory. But, that was then. By the 1960s, the area was very different. Friday and Saturday nights were when the woods were filled with cars. Guys and girls, playing music, drinking beer, and having a blast. That’s until the Mothman put paid to all of that. In November 1966, one of the most spectacular encounters with the monster was reported by Roger and Linda Scarberry and Steve and Mary Mallette. It wasn’t long after the four reached the old plant when they encountered in the shadows an approximately seven-foot-tall monster glaring at them. They wasted no time in exiting the area: the accelerator was floored and it wasn’t long at all before they breathlessly shared their story with Deputy Millard Halstead, of the local sheriff’s office. The media had a field day with the story – a story which, arguably, set the scene for the mayhem that was to follow, and which culminated with the collapse of the Silver Bridge. Today, the area is even spookier: the old TNT plant is no more, as it has been razed to the ground and the area is fenced off. As for the now-decades-old igloos, they are empty, abandoned and covered in overgrown bushes, vines and moss, and hidden by the trees. Graffiti adorns most of the igloos – some with imagery of Mothman himself. The setting – and particularly so at night – is apocalyptic, to say the least. Indeed, the ruined, run-down area looks like the kind of locale one might expect to see in the likes of The Walking Dead. And, decades later, it still oozes a sense of hard to describe menace. Notably, at the very same time that the events in Point Pleasant, West Virginia were afoot, very similar things were going down in New York – in Huntington, specifically in an area known to the locals as Mount Misery. Like Point Pleasant, the area is steeped in weirdness and an atmosphere of high-strangeness prevails. Strange creatures – such as “black panthers,” and ghostly black dogs with eyes like burning coals – roam the heart of the woods. Ghostly children have been seen wandering the old lanes after the sun has set. Pale-skinned Men in Black have knocked on the doors of locals late at night, warning them not to discuss the supernatural activity that dominates the area. And, for years, Mount Misery – with its thick, dense canopies of trees – has been a beacon for lovers. Midway through May 1967, John Keel reported in his 1975 book, The Mothman Prophecies, that a young couple – Richard and Jane – after an evening of hanging out and making out were driving to Richard’s home when he suddenly fell sick. He was overcome by weakness and nausea and briefly passed out at the wheel. Fortunately, because of the tight corners on the small, winding roads, Richard was barely driving at fifteen miles per hour, something which allowed Jane to quickly grab the wheel and bring the car to a halt. The next thing Jane remembered was seeing a bright flash, followed by a groggy sense of missing time and a feeling of memories of…well, something…erased from her mind. For Jane, all of this led her to believe that the light had come from a UFO and that she and Richard had been taken on-board the craft – a definitive case of what today we would call an alien abduction. mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/03/monsters-mysteries-and-the-lovers-lane-phenomenon/

mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/04/man-calls-911-to-report-7-8-feet-tall-humanoid-with-wings-and-bright-green-eyes/ Man Calls 911 to Report “7-8 Feet Tall” Humanoid With Wings and Bright Green Eyesby Sequoyah Kennedy / mysteriousuniverse.org/author/skennedy/April 11, 2019 Oh boy, there’s something strange afoot in middle America. Recently, reports of bizarre flying humanoid creatures have ramped up in the states surrounding the Great Lakes, both current sightings and, as a consequence of the increased attention, reports of past sightings as well. As I’ve written in the past few months, there’s only one paranormal creature that fits the bill. It’s fair to say that Mothman is back in a big way, and he’s as spooky as ever. Perhaps I’m getting over-excited, maybe Mothman is just hanging out in a tree somewhere eating donuts, not scaring anybody. Maybe this is Butterflyman. I don’t know. Maybe this is just what you see when you’ve been up for three days reading about Mothman on the internet. Who can say, really? Regardless, we can say that a man from Woodstock, Illinois did call 911 to report a freakishly tall winged humanoid with glowing green eyes, that apparently charged at him, screaming, while he was trying to leave a convenience store. Mothman He sure is a persistent fellow. The investigators at Singular Fortean were alerted to the case by the man himself. He sent them an account of his ordeal, which allegedly occurred on February 28, and asked for their investigative help. He compared it to a sighting that was previously reported in Woodstock, Illinois. Here’s the account of the incident sent to Singular Fortean: I was outside Jewel Osco in Woodstock, Illinois and believe to [have seen] the same visual of an unusual being in the McHenry County fairground. It screeched at me then charged the fence, about thirty feet from the fence, it had very bright green eyes, [and] had wings and was all black leathery colored. It ran back towards the woods in the McHenry County fairgrounds. I called [the Woodstock police department] and [they] had county sheriffs respond to the location. According to Singular Fortean, investigator Tobias Wayland called the witness at a predetermined time agreed upon by the witness, but was forced to leave a voicemail. The witness has not responded. So it’s all nonsense, right? Well that’s where the 911 call comes in. Singular Fortean filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Woodstock police department for all pertinent information and they received a transcript of the 911 call that the unnamed man made to the police department. The transcript states that on February 28, 2019, an officer did respond to the Jewel Osco parking lot after the call was made: “[The witness] had a sighting of a mysterious creature described as being 7-8 ft tall and wearing all black. [The witness] said the creature charged at him from the fair grounds screeching at him while he was in the Jewel lot and then it retreated. [The witness] named the creature the ‘Dufield Pond Swamp Monster,’ since he had the first sighting with police involvement. Investigation to continue.” According to Singular Fortean, the McHenry County Fairgrounds are directly opposite the Dufield Pond Conservation Area, a thickly wooded area comprised of forest and parks. Another witness had reported seeing a large winged humanoid with dark fur emerge from the Dufield Pond Conservation Area on February 22. This is the latest in a series of bizarre sightings that have occurred in the states surrounding the Great Lakes. According to Singular Fortean, every state surrounding Lake Michigan has had reports of winged humanoid creatures. They write: Witnesses consistently describe a large, gray-or-black bat or bird-like creature—although in a small number of cases the creature was described as insect-like—sometimes with glowing or reflective red, yellow, or orange eyes; and humanoid features such as arms and legs are often reported. Many of the sightings are also of something seen only briefly or are described only as a flying creature with few details, which leaves open the possibility that a large bird or bird-like being could explain some encounters. They ask that any witnesses report their experience to them via their contact page. www.singularfortean.com/contact/ And if you have seen Mothman, please do report it. Because real or imagined, this is an absolutely fascinating modern paranormal legend. mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/04/man-calls-911-to-report-7-8-feet-tall-humanoid-with-wings-and-bright-green-eyes/

mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/04/mini-mothman-reportedly-hits-truck-windshield-in-wisconsin/ “Mini Mothman” Reportedly Hits Truck Windshield in Wisconsinby Paul Seaburn mysteriousuniverse.org/author/paulseaburn/April 15, 2019 “A large flying man with ten-foot wings.” “A six- or seven-foot-tall, white creature with red eyes and large wings.” “About 7 feet tall, its wings folded against its back.” Mothman Statue in Point Pleasant (Wikipedia) Those descriptions and others of the creature that has become known as the Mothman make it worthy of the 12-foot-tall metallic statue in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where its legend originates. How about these? “It had small wings, [and] again, it wasn’t a bat in the snow. It had long stretched out legs that came down below its body and had arms and fingers.” “I also know what a flying squirrel looks like and it was not that either.” “First off let me say it wasn’t a bird or a bat but this thing hit my window and mostly splattered on it. I saw it plain as day stuck to my window. I describe it as a small faerie if you believe in faeries, or possibly, I crap you not, a miniature mothman.” Are you tired of looking at the replica Mothman statue on your bookshelf? Would like a real pet Mothman for the cage that’s been empty ever since Tweetie died? Then head to Wittenberg, Wisconsin, with a net big enough for a bat and strong enough for a … monster? The Singular Fortean website tells the story of how it was contacted on April 12, 2019, by Kane Adams, a member of Wisconsin’s Fox Valley Ghost Hunters who was not out on a ghost case but instead driving a semi in unusually wintry conditions for April, even in Wisconsin, when something strange struck his windshield in-between wiper swipes. “Something fell out of the sky that was really odd and I can’t quite get the image out of my mind.” Kane tells Singular Fortean’s investigator, Tobias Wayland, that he was decelerating on an off-ramp with the strange thing hit his truck. “The wings were the same color as the body. It seemed to have separation in the wings like maybe veins or arteries or bones. Considering the wings were kind of mashed on the windshield it was hard to tell [its wingspan], the body was about four inches with the wings going out further, say, about another four inches per side if it they were not squashed.” That’s pretty small for a Mothman, even by the eyewitness reports that have been emanating from the Chicago area for a few years now of Mothmanish creatures, winged humanoids and giant bird sightings that have been well-covered by Lon Strickler at Phantoms & Monsters. Unfortunately, Kane was driving a semi in bad weather, which precipitated grabbing a cellphone to take a picture before the creature rolled off of the windshield. He also says the conditions kept him from going back to look for the body. “Size wise 8 inches high by 5 inches wide with wings slightly wider.” That’s much smaller than a sandhill crane, which many skeptics say was the creature that so many witnesses in Point Pleasant claim was a 7-foot-tall winging humanoid. Kane ruled out a bat or a flying squirrel, and his next guess was not something real but surreal – a faery. However, would a smooshed faery look like this? “I was going to take a picture but it slid off the window leaving this massive gooey stain on my window which took several attempts with washer fluid to clean up off the window. I remember it was all black and I didn’t see any eyes … the stain it left was so intense that it smeared the whole window … It’s still imprinted in my eyes.” How’s the weather in Wittenberg today? Is it worth a trip to look for what could be the greatest cryptozoological find since … well, ever? Or a pet Mothman? A pet faery? Or more details to put into a new horror movie script? Or proof that what Kane Adams hit on a wintry April night was just some poor bird or flying mammal? He’s the only witness … so far … although the report says his post on social media generated responses from others who claim to have similar experiences many years before. Who’s next? mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/04/mini-mothman-reportedly-hits-truck-windshield-in-wisconsin/

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/04/ole-red-eye.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters)Saturday, April 27, 2019 'Ole Red Eye'Posted by Lon Strickler / (Illustration by Timothy Renner) The following article was printed in The Evening Sun (Hanover, PA) on October 31, 2011: Some people might consider this marker, off of Dicks Dam Road north of Cross Keys, a simple scarecrow. But others think it could be a totem for the Mothman creature they say is skulking around the Adams County woods The stream gurgle fades with the waning afternoon light, as you press deeper into the woods. A muddy shore gives way to thick grass heavy with rain. The path narrows, branches grasp and pull. Something moves and you turn with a start -- a squirrel bounds away through the brush. If it's March, or April, we're not having this conversation. You're not wide-eyed and alone and half-lost in a maze of trees and undergrowth. But this is the season for ghouls and for legends. It's the time of year editors send reporters out to the wild, in search of fleeting phantoms. Thus, the mothman creature that reportedly lives in the rural Adams County woods. And thus a soaked pair of shoes, and pants legs abloom with sharp briars. Leaves whispering, dusk falling as the trail leads you deeper, farther from home. So how did it come to this? Here's the story. It's 1988, and a man living in the Baltimore area is set to meet an old friend from Adams County at a Boy Scout conference. The old friend mentions to the man, Lon Strickler, that Scout troops on overnight trips at Camp Conewago have recently been packing up their tents early, leaving the grounds in a rush of spinning tires. They've been waking in the night, the man said, to the sound of shrill crying. Screaming sounds, out among the trees. Strickler -- who had some experience in paranormal research -- was intrigued. He agreed to accompany his friend, and another man, to investigate for a night. The group met at the Boy Scout camp off Dicks Dam Road north of Cross Keys, on a Friday night, around 7 p.m. They walked from the empty cabins about 500 yards into the woods, and then, following the Conewago Creek another 300 yards upstream, pitched their tents there along the shore. The talk was of sports and childhood camping trips, and night passed without incident. There was little mention of the something they thought could be out in the woods. But still, Strickler would say later, it felt as if he were being watched. Saturday dawned clear and cool, the sun warming a winding creek. The three men explored the area for most of the day, arriving back at camp again in the early evening. Conversation again covered football and food, the hours blurring and fading with a crackling campfire. Then, from somewhere in the shadows, a scream. Maybe an owl, one man said. A bobcat, or a bird? But the three knew the local woods, and the animals. And this wasn't close, they said. This was something different. The wail of a child. So the group grabbed stowed gear and crept away from the dying fire, out into the night. They searched for signs of tracks or disturbance, squinting to pick up movement among the trees, scanning the shadows under slivered moon. Water murmured in the creek bed. Leaves split like eggshells underfoot. Breath streamed out in bursts of silence, white against the night. Strickler stopped. There it is, he whispered. Standing in the creek was a large, dark figure. It was tall as a man, and stood upright; its red eyes burned. In an eye blink the creature leapt from the creek with a dizzying burst of wind and water, melting away into the sky. Its scream echoed over barren branches. That was more than 20 years ago, Lon Strickler said recently, and he can still see it -- those eyes. And others have seen it in those woods, too, he said. Stories of sightings have come in from people he's never met. He's tracked them, and they still trickle in today. Its become known, Strickler said, as the Conewago Phantom. For all the build-up, though, and the obvious ghost-story selling points, few around the area had ever heard of the beast. Knocks on doors brought little more than puzzled, pitying looks. Trips down forgotten stone lanes yielded only empty stares. Several people, at least, got a good laugh. So as the late-day sun melts to twilight, there's little left to do but find that deserted Boy Scout camp. Behind an iron gate lays a wide, empty field, with a slow hill running to a line of wooden cabins. The cabins, huddled close and backed by dense woods, are dark and boarded, with no signs of life save for a dent here, a long scratch in a split board there. Then, movement. At the top of the stone drive a blue pickup rolls into view, slows, and rumbles to rest beside you with a diesel growl. Inside, a man with a hat pulled low and a wide, dark mustache. He kills the engine but the woods are somehow louder now, birdsong dripping down from the trees. He jerks his head, beckoning. "I hear you're looking for 'Ole Red Eye,'" the man says as you struggle your way across the loose stone. Kids at this camp been talking about him for years, he says, fresh dirt on his shirt sleeve, gravel in his voice. Some claim they've seen him. There's something they're afraid of, he says, out in those woods. He stares off into the shadows, and while you can't see up into the pickup, you notice the gun rack behind his head. You notice it's empty. And your eye goes to the black tarp behind him. It flaps loose in the wind, slick and wet. He turns back, catches you looking. And a hungry smile forms under that mustache, as he reaches down with his right hand -- slowly -- his little eyes on yours. The gray sky seems to sag in on itself, and your skin goes cold. The birds squawk and scream, trees pressing in as your voice fails. "I imagine that's all just kid stories, though," the man says. And he takes a drink of the soda in his hand. The truck rumbles and lurches to life again, tires grinding into the stone. Be careful, he advises then, out here all alone. But you're already right behind him. The swishing and sloshing of your soaked shoes forgotten, as you fumble with your keys, as you jump in your car. As you press down the automatic lock. So silly, of course. But even those who don't believe -- those tree-branch fingers clawing at your window, that cold breath of wind creeping through the door -- this month we look twice over our shoulder. Did you just hear something? - The Evening Sun - October 31, 2011 www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/04/ole-red-eye.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters)

mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/09/across-the-pond-theres-the-u-k-s-mothman/ Across the Pond…There’s the U.K.’s Mothmanby Nick Redfern / mysteriousuniverse.org/author/nredfern/September 20, 2019 In 1976 the dense trees surrounding Mawnan Old Church, Cornwall, England became a veritable magnet for a diabolical beast that was christened the Owlman. The majority of those that crossed paths with the creature asserted that it was human-like in both size and design, and possessed a pair of large wings, fiery red eyes, claws, and exuded an atmosphere of menace. No wonder people make parallels with Mothman. It all began during the weekend of Easter 1976, when two young girls, June and Vicky Melling, had an encounter of a truly nightmarish kind in Mawnan Woods. The girls were on holiday with their parents when they saw a gigantic, feathery “bird man” hovering over the 13th Century church. It was a story that their father, Don Melling, angrily shared with a man named Tony “Doc” Shiels. I say “angrily” because Shiels was a noted, local magician who Melling came to believe had somehow instigated the whole affair. Or as Shiels, himself, worded it: “…some trick that had badly frightened his daughters.” Shiels denied any involvement in the matter whatsoever. But that was only the start of things. Another one to see the Owlman was Jane Greenwood, also a young girl. She wrote a letter to the local newspaper, the Falmouth Packet, during the summer of 1976 that detailed her own startling encounter: “I am on holiday in Cornwall with my sister and our mother. I, too, have seen a big bird-thing. It was Sunday morning, and the place was in the trees near Mawnan Church, above the rocky beach. It was in the trees standing like a full-grown man, but the legs bent backwards like a bird’s. It saw us, and quickly jumped up and rose straight up through the trees. How could it rise up like that?” Two fourteen year old girls, Sally Chapman and Barbara Perry, also had the misfortune to have a run-in with the Owlman in 1976. At around 10:00 p.m., while camping in the woods of Mawnan, and as they sat outside of their tent making a pot of tea, the pair heard a strange hissing noise. On looking around, they saw the infernal Owlman staring in their direction from a distance of about sixty feet. Sally said: “It was like a big owl with pointed ears, as big as a man. The eyes were red and glowing. At first I thought that it was someone dressed-up, playing a joke, trying to scare us. I laughed at it. We both did. Then it went up in the air and we both screamed. When it went up you could see its feet!” Barbara added: “It’s true. It was horrible, a nasty owl-face with big ears and big red eyes. It was covered in grey feathers. The claws on its feet were black. It just flew up and disappeared in the trees.” While there were rumors of additional sightings of the creature in the immediate years that followed, it wasn’t until the summer of either 1988 or 1989 that the Owlman put in an appearance that can be documented to a significant degree. In this case, the witness was a young boy, dubbed “Gavin” by a good friend of mine, Jon Downes (who wrote an entire book on the winged monster, titled The Owlman and Others), and his then girlfriend, Sally. The beast, Gavin told Jon, was around five feet in height, had large feet, glowing eyes, and significantly sized wings. It was a shocking, awe-inspiring encounter that Gavin and Sally never forgot. As was the case in the immediate post-1976 era, a few reports from the 1990s and 2000s have surfaced. Chiefly, however, they are from individuals who prefer not to go on the record – something which has led to understandable suspicions of fakery and hoaxing. But, one could also make a very good argument that going public about having seen a monstrous “birdman” in English woodland would not be the wisest move to make. Today, and getting ever-closer to 40 years since the original encounters occurred, the matter remains the undeniable controversy that it was back then. For some researchers, Doc Shiels is the man to blame. They perceive him as a trickster. Jon Downes, however, suggests something else – something with which I concur. Namely, that Shiels – dubbed the “Wizard of the Western World” – has profound knowledge of “magic.” And by that, I don’t mean people pulling rabbits out of hats. We are talking, here, about something far stranger, something ancient, and something filled with swirling mystery. In a review of Doc’s excellent book, Monstrum, I noted: “[Doc’s] is a world filled with a deep understanding of the real nature of magic (chaos and ritualistic), the secrets of invocation and manifestation, of strange realms just beyond – and that occasionally interact with – our own, and Trickster-like phenomenon. Doc’s is also a domain where, when we dare to imagine the fantastic, when we decide to seek it out, and when we finally accept its reality, we perhaps provide it with some form of quasi-existence.” Perhaps Doc, in a decidedly strange way, really did play a role in the formation of the Owlman legend. But, such was the allure of the beast it quickly stepped out of the world of imagination and story-telling, and right into the heart of the real world. And on that last point, be careful what you wish for, lest you unleash into our reality a monster that has no intention of returning to that domain from which it was originally created, imagined, or invoked. And, soon, I’ll update you with the more recent cases. mysteriousuniverse.org/2019/09/across-the-pond-theres-the-u-k-s-mothman/

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/10/red-eyed-anomalies-continually-observed.html Friday, October 18, 2019 Red Eyed Anomalies Continually Observed in Rural Eastern KentuckyPosted by Lon Strickler / I recently received the following account: I live in a small town in eastern Kentucky. Back in the woods. This is the second time I’ve witnessed this. The first sighting, I knew it was some kind of creature that was out of the ordinary. But I couldn’t figure it out. One night my fiancee and I were talking about ghosts, and aliens, and other things we’ve seen. He began telling me about a time he was with a friend, driving down a back road. His buddy wanted to stop to get a beer from the bed of the truck, so they stopped and my boyfriend said he instantly froze because he seen this huge black thing with red eyes flying towards the truck. They sped off and didn’t look back. Well, when he described what he'd seen, that’s when it struck me. That’s what I saw from my front porch. It was after midnight, and what got my attention was the sounds of tree branches cracking and leaves shaking, followed by a whooshing sound. Like a large bird or something. It did circles around me from the hillside, to the other side. Thru the trees all I could make out was a dark shadow and red eyes. I can’t exactly remember the date but it was around this time last year (Fall 2018). At 2 am on 10/19/19 same thing happened. Same scenario, on my front porch smoking a cigarette, I saw it again. Unfortunately I have no pictures for proof, but by God I’ll have the camera ready from now on. KM NOTE: I've been receiving a fair number of flying cryptid sighting in eastern Kentucky recently. www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/11/red-eyed-winged-humanoid-stares-down.html Tuesday, November 05, 2019 Red-Eyed Winged Humanoid Stares Down Witness in Park Ridge, Illinois Posted by Lon Strickler /
I received the following email on Thursday October 31, 2019: I was driving home north on Talcott Rd. at about 9:30 pm on the evening of Wednesday October 30th. As I was approaching the intersection with Boardwalk Place I saw something walk across the road. At first, I thought it was a deer as we get them every now and again. That changed when this thing stopped in the middle of the road and faced me head-on. I panicked and came to a stop. That is when this thing spread out with what looked like enormous wings and screeched at me before bounding towards the woods. This thing looked like a 7-foot man, thin and with two very large red eyes that were illuminated. My headlights were on this thing and it was solid black, It looked like it had skin and not feathers. The wings looked like they were attached to its back. I was scared half out of my wits and there was no way in Hell I was going to get out of my car and go after it into the woods. I slammed my foot on the accelerator and took off for home where I told my husband about it. It was his idea that I report this to you. LA The witness 'LA' responded to my request for an interview. Their response was: Hello Lon, I would rather not talk to anyone. I would rather correspond via email as to protect myself. It's nothing against you, but I don't want my kids to find out and have them think I'm seeing things. I hope you understand. LA I have good reason to believe that what was stated in the email is true. I received a bit more information from the witness today. I did some research on the witness and the identification and other personal information checks out. The encounter and description in the account was never changed. Hopefully, LA or others will eventually come forward with further details. Lonwww.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/11/red-eyed-winged-humanoid-stares-down.html

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/12/witnesses-describe-mothman-abilities.html Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Witnesses Describe 'Mothman' Abilities and 'Bat-Like' AppearancePosted by Lon Strickler “I live in West Virginia, and have seen this (Mothman) creature myself, didn't glimpse it, we clearly saw it. Whatever it is, it does exist. And I'm not sure how anyone can get a picture of it. I could have had a camera in my hand and still would not have. When it looks at you, somehow it paralyzes you. Was me and a friend, and for the first hour or so after, couldn’t move or even talk. Then for about the next hour, all we could say was, 'what the f.... was that?' and still couldn't move. And yes, as it said here, it looks nothing like a moth, and nothing like the stature in Point Pleasant. Looks more like a bat than a moth. I can only hope to never see it again.” RM ----- “I saw this when I was a kid in Seguin, Texas. No, not Mantis Man but a big dark figure with red eyes, big wings, big body. I remember seeing it in a tree in my back yard I was probably around 6 or 7 (around 2002). I'm 23 now but I remember everything like it was yesterday everyday since then I walked out side stood right under it. It looked down on me and leaned out of the tree. I told it I wasn’t afraid then it stood up in the tree jumped out of the branches and with huge wings. It flew over my house. I remember running around the side of my house and seeing it fly away in the distance. The whole situation made feel like I couldn't believe in what I just saw. I told my parents in the morning but they thought it was just a dream but I never fell back to sleep that night. I stayed up just thinking what it could have been but since then looking at every mysterious recorded thing I've found on the Internet. I've come to a conclusion that I still don't know what it could of been. Something makes me feel like I should look in to the Mothman stories and everything that is a dark figure with a large wingspan with glowing red eyes.” CA www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/12/witnesses-describe-mothman-abilities.html

I was “drawn” to the bottom of that article (sometimes leading me into a “rabbit hole”) 😉.
This website has mentioned “Rob Potter”. A 44 year investigator/etc. so, I may try that rabbit hole later. ______________
As for the “mothman”, my friend Jo and I agreed that this mothman character seems “lost” in our world.
Even, Posey Gilbert put in his 2 cents that though we look at “mothman” as a harbinger of doom, he may be a “nature spirit” just doing his “job”. I am simplifying (of course).

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2020/04/mothman-encounter-accounts-ohio-west.html Wednesday, April 22, 2020 'Mothman' Encounter Accounts: Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania & GeorgiaPosted by Lon Strickler / 4 distinct and interesting 'Mothman' encounter accounts from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and GeorgiaI received the following email from a woman in Ohio who had concerns in reference to a sighting her and a girlfriend had six months prior to the report. She stated that she substituted their names for anonymity. 'Megan' affirms that all other details, the location, date and description of the incident are factual: “Sir - my name is Megan. I am forwarding a summary of an experience that I and a friend had in August 2010. My friend and associate Kyra and I traveled from Columbus, Ohio to Ravenswood, West Virginia on business. While we were there, I wanted to make a side trip to Gallipolis, Ohio in order to visit relatives I had not seen for quite awhile. After our meeting and presentation, we drove onto Ohio Rt. 7 and traveled south along the Ohio River towards Gallipolis. We had a nice, though brief, visit with my relatives. Around 6PM, we left their home and drove a few miles north on Rt. 7 to check-in to a hotel near the local airport. Around 7:30PM, we decided to get dinner and found a quiet restaurant so we could eat and work. After we finished, Kyra needed to go to the store and pick up a few items that she forgot to pack. We headed to a Wal-Mart that was nearby the restaurant. After we finished shopping, we were walking to the car when I noticed a woman running through the parking lot. When she reached her car, she looked back in the direction of the store then hurriedly got into the car. I quickly looked in the same direction and saw what looked like a large bird flying above the roof of the store. It was difficult to see but when it swooped downward the parking lot lights would shine off of it. It looked like it was either oily or had shiny leather-like skin. Whatever it was, it had a wide wing span. I would guess it reached 8-10 foot across. It circled above the store for about a minute then just disappeared. We were both somewhat shocked at what we witnessed but figured that it was just a huge bird. Since it was dark, I figured we had misjudged what it really was. We drove back to the hotel and decided to call it a night so we could get an early start on the drive home in the morning. I got ready for bed but thought I’d watch some television first. By this time it was around 10PM or so. I must have dozed off fairly quickly because the next thing I remember is frantic knocking on my door. I stumbled out of bed and checked who it was. It was Kyra and she was obviously upset. She rushed into my room and said “it’s here!” “What are you talking about?”- a little bit perturbed that she woke me up. She said that she was laying on the bed reading when she heard something in the hallway. She got out of bed, walked to the door and listened to what she thought was ‘scratching’ sounds. After a few minutes the sounds stopped, so she went back to bed. Not long after she lay down she heard more scratching sounds but, from outside her window. Again she got up and peeked through the curtains. This time, something looked back at her. Our rooms were on the second floor in the back section of the hotel and both looked out onto a small parking lot and a large field beyond that. She could see, what she described as, a ‘bald ugly man with wings’ who was looking directly at her with 'large bulging eyes that lit up bright red.' It was there for only a few seconds. It then spread it’s wings while running at the same time towards the end of the parking lot and lifted off the ground like a bird. “You’re kidding, right?” I muttered to her. “Meg, I swear to God - that thing is out there and it knows we saw it!” I knew the only way I was going to get some sleep was to allow Kyra to stay in my room. The next morning we woke early, checked out and drove back to Columbus. Kyra didn’t mention the incident from the previous night during the ride. In fact, she has still never said anything else about it. We continue to be good friends and have a very good working relationship. But - I got curious. I had never heard about the Mothman or any of the tales associated with it. I grew up in Texas and had only lived in Ohio for a few years. I moved into my Mom’s house after she had passed away. Her relatives lived throughout Ohio but I had never been told any of the stories. This is the reason I am writing to you. We were near Point Pleasant, WV when we had this encounter. Do you think that it is possible that this was a Mothman? I read some of your posts recently and I’m starting to believe that Kyra actually saw something supernatural. In light of the prophecies of danger that this thing is suppose to warn people about, Kyra has had some bad luck and tragedy since that day. Her husband suddenly left her, she had a fire in her house and she severely injured her leg in a fall. Could this be connected? I personally don’t believe in predictions, either good or bad. But I will admit that these have been strange times since we witnessed ‘whatever.’” CONTINUE READING: www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2020/04/mothman-encounter-accounts-ohio-west.html

Mothman has been associated with flying humanoids. These beings could be ultraterrestrials, from an alternate universe, coming here through another dimension. Rather than cryptid creatures that may be indigenous to our planet and universe. Mothman Legend
