FREMONT — The Fremont Police Department has released a statement about a report of an unidentified flying object spotted Sunday morning in Fremont.
At 12:33 a.m. Sunday, a man called the police department claiming he observed a UFO hovering and moving up and down by a radio tower. The police dispatcher asked the man if he was serious, according to the a report, and the man said that what he saw was not a joke.
Two officers were dispatched to Sweeney Warehouse in the 600 block of North Stone Street to investigate the complaint. In his report, Fremont Police Officer Lester Daniels said police did not see any flying objects in the area.
“However, it should be noted that our car radios were having interference while this call was being investigated,” Daniels wrote in the report.
Fremont police Capt. Jim White characterized the call as an isolated incident, adding the department did not receive any other calls Sunday of flying objects or disrupted service.
“While a report of a UFO was received by the Fremont Police Department, upon investigation, no basis for the report was discovered,” White wrote in a statement. “As to possible radio interference, it should be noted that no reports have been received concerning similar interference to cellular, wireless internet and/or satellite TV signals.
“As a direct result, we will keep the report open on file pending further occurrences.”
Daniels said the caller told him that he watched the object hover for about 10 minutes and that he had seen the object a while ago.
The caller did not provide a description of the UFO.
Officers checked for the object a second time at about 1:16 a.m. and did not find any flying objects.
