White in the 1930s, in a narrative called “Soft Voices at Passenham,” where a Professor is recounting his observations on specters to a doubtful Countess. “He ignored them in a rather pointed way, and this made them feel inferior.” However, as White’s narrator would go on to detail, the ghosts of legend aren’t the kind who like to go unnoticed for long. “The only time Fowley was ever frightened himself–and then it was more a case of being startled–was on a Sunday night in December. He was verger and general factotum, and he was ringing the church bell for service. He had a lanthorn with him in the belfrey, and it blew out, for it was a stormy night. He let go the bell rope to light the lanthorn, and the bell went on ringing. This surprised him, so he took hold of the rope again in the dar: but there was a hand under his own on the rope, a skeleton hand, rather frigid and slippery, and a faint musty smell in the belfry.” The musings told of here may be purely fiction, or at their core, there may indeed be some hint of truth to them. Literature is, after all, rife with the supernatural, whether it be the ghosts that haunt cursed Macbeth, the ghost lights of T.S. Elliot’s youth, or the kinds of shades that manifest within the musty pages of a Dickens novel. Underlying the mystery of the literary ghost, many would presume, must be some facet of truthfulness that had succeeded in staking a place for specters in the annals of the human mind and rationale; but is this really the case, or are ghosts truly just fictional creations whose existence in relation to the mind is their persistence in the imagination? I do, here at home and out in the world. Odd, I thought everyone did but didn't want to admit it. Wonder why?

I've never seen a ghost. Been looking for them for decades and never seen one. I'm still looking.

I see gold orbs floating in my home on several occasions. A ghost in a different form maybe. Like a spirit. I've learned just lately that this house has a girl child spirit. I was told by another tenant years back about the little girl, but never believed any of it. Now the new tenants say they have seen her in their apt already. I have seen nothing like that and I have lived here 17 years.

Oooh! Are you living in another haunted house? You should try taking pictures and see if anything shows up on the camera. Sometimes ghosts will appear on a camera when they can't be seen with normal eyes. And maybe you could get one of those electronic voice recorders that record sounds. Sometimes they can record ghost voices that people don't hear. Let me know if you see the ghost girl.

I sure wish I had a camera when I seen those orbs . They were nothing like you see in photos or videos. These were perfectly round and softball size or a little larger. They were the most beautiful gold color I have ever seen . More so than a wedding band. Both times which was twice they went through the wall to the other apt. I watched them for a good seven seconds float across the room. I will try Casper. Hope I get something to show you. I will keep asking the tenant next door about her.

You don't always have to see a ghost for one to be there. Sometimes you might just get a cold feeling or feel like somebody is watching you. When that happens grab the camera and just start taking pictures. A ghost might show up in the camera. It happens sometimes.

Nothing strange has every appeared before and I have taken lots of photos in this house. I will check them closer from now on. You will be the first to know if any ghost ever showed up on film.

I saw/heard/felt ghosts of people I loved who had passed.
I've gotten bad vibes from places where violent things happened. The two strongest ones were the Texas Alamo (where the indigenous Indians were locked up every night and made to work in the daytime until they died.) Also some Mayan ruins - where the Spaniards overrun them and threw people off cliffs, killed everyone, etc.
These days - not so much. But its like we have little minor house inhabitants. I've written about this before. We lay down, stop talking, and maybe Terry falls asleep (but not always). Its quiet - then it isn't. There are little noises in the room - bumps, little slurps - if we had a dog I'd know it was just the dog. But we don't have a dog.
Sometimes there are bumps and thumps in other rooms. Nothing is every disturbed in the morning.
I'm used to it now. Sometimes I start to laugh and ask Terry if he's hearing it. He often says, "Yes!"
Hospitals have unhappy vibes too. Its understandable.

"came into the room and greeted us. In reply to his ‘Hello, boy!’ I remarked, ‘Hello! Back already?’ He replied, ‘Yes, got there all right, had a good trip.’ I am not positively sure of the exact words he used, but he said, ‘Had a good trip,’ or ‘Had a fine trip,’ or words to that effect. I was looking at him the whole time he was speaking. " (from the story about David McConnel in article) _________________________________________________________________ So, this represents, that if David McConnel was his ghost, he didn't know that he was dead (yet). I believe this event happened, but it's not like other similar stories, where the newly dead basically appear to loved ones as if to say good-bye. But what if David was known for his sense of humor? If he did know he was dead, he could have been talking about the trip between life and the world after, and knew his friend would understand what he meant when his friend heard about his death later. ?? I would have to hear more stories like this to confirm "ghosts" sense of humor at their own death. "Things" that appear as "ghosts" are known for sometimes being pranksters, and occas. we hear stories of 'ghosts' doing stunts like their human counterparts, but this is a first for me. Shoot, the guy wasn't even solemn.

Imagine being a "ghost", I know, bear with me, and you're alone, lost, nor sure who or what you are, then you run into "something" it looks like you. walks, while I can float, sometimes, and then the is this thing, that is solid, can speak, seems like me but he seems to have a purpose, a reason for being, while I am just "here. I am not quite sure if I should let him know I am here, or just watch. He seems rather boring, while I have boundless areas to explore. Wonder if I should fear him or pity him....?

I try not to imagine being a ghost. I'll have plenty of time to explore that idea when I'm dead. If I were a ghost I seriously doubt that I would hang around the Earth for very long though. Maybe to say Hi to a few people and to scare the bleep out of a few others. After that I would be traveling the universe and seeing all of the things I never got to see when I was alive.

I think our thoughts are similar on this. Except that I think "ghosts" don't think we are rather boring. You know, that old saying "you want what you can't have" or 'the grass is always greener. . . ' ? There is obviously a type of being that (at first) just watches, IMO. Some of them can do a lot more than that. Fear us? Pity us? I'll have to think about that for a bit.

The manner in which these reports are presented is fascinating...full of emotion, flourishes and hyperbole: Ghost Allegedly Slaps Cops’ Faces One Hundred Dollars Reward For Proof Happenings Are Not Supernatural New Castle News, New Castle, Pennsylvania - 18 February 1922 HALIFAX, N.S., Feb. 18 – The famous ghost of Antigonish county today had won the second round of its fight with Agnostics and entered upon its third. First, it drove Alex McDonald from his farm in Caledonia Mills in midwinter, with a tale of mysterious fires and cattle that apparently had been stricken by a supernatural hand. Last night it sent Detective “Peachie” McDonald of the provincial police and Harold Whidden, a reporter, back to Halifax, satisfied by their investigation that the ghost exists and had slapped them. Today the cross hockey club, of Antigonish, which is here for a game with Dalhousie, announced that two of its members had been selected to wage war against the spook by continuing the investigation of the haunted house, which has had all Nova Scotia agog. So certain is Mr. Whidden of his conclusions, he offered to give $100 to the first person who can prove that supernatural causes are not responsible for the uncanny happenings at the McDonald homestead. mysteriousuniverse.org/2018/08/a-famous-case-of-truly-frightening-entities/ A Famous Case of Truly Frightening Entitiesby Brent Swancer / mysteriousuniverse.org/author/brentswancer/August 21, 2018 Hauntings truly run the spectrum of the weird. You have some that merely involve moving objects, others that entail roving apparitions of some type, still other more malevolent case that have reports of physical violence and assault revolving about them. Then you have the truly frightening accounts that involve all of the above. One of the most terrifying hauntings in history seems to have settled down on one very unfortunate family in the 1970s, involving a group of specters with an inclination for violence, mayhem, and even rape, and which would go on to become one of the most ghastly incidents of paranormal activity on record. The story of one of the most frightening and violent hauntings of all time starts in 1974, with a single mother by the name of Doris Bither, who lived in in Culver City, California, with her four children. The family had moved here from Santa Monica in order to try and start a new life after a string of abusive relationships that Doris had been in, and to try and escape her demon of alcoholism. It was a rough time of things, as Doris had barely enough to raise her four children, all born of different fathers, and they were a broken family living in dirt poor conditions, but things would soon get worse still, when something decidedly dark and paranormal came calling. It started rather creepily enough, when an elderly woman who came over one day shortly after they had moved in and told Doris out of the blue that she had once lived in the home and that it was evil, before wandering off to never be seen again. So far, so eerie, but it would prove to be almost prophetic. Not long after this, there would be instances of classic poltergeist activity, such as lights turning on and off, objects moving on their own, and anomalous noises, all of which were witnessed by all of the family members. Then things graduated to the more frightening when apparitions would start appearing. At first it was just glimpses, a shadow figure moving across the living room here, a movement in the periphery of the vision there, but it got steadily more intense, and even neighbors began seeing these things around the house. The figures that were seen started to take shape, appearing as fog-like humanoid shapes that would move about or merely sit in the corner and simply watch. In an interview with Ghost Theory, Doris’s middle son, bob Harris, would describe them thus: It was never clear. When they would make themselves known, it was always like a fog. Like a human…but not quite. It was like a sculpture. Like a chiseled body. Not a full figure, but at times we could see some of it. At times, it would be annoying. We would be watching television and these things would walk by. Like nothing. We were so used to the poltergeist, that we just got to a point were we wouldn’t even care. It became increasingly clear that there was more than one of the entities as well, either 3 or 4 of them, depending on who you ask, although Harris has said that there were 4. This spooky paranormal activity, although at first scary but mostly harmless, would not stay that way for long, soon becoming increasingly terrifying. Not content to just mill about and cause mischief, the entities began to lash out at the family, pushing, shoving, hitting, and even clawing or biting them, and this would happen at all hours, even in the middle of the daytime. Harris would say: We all experienced some form of attack. There was the pushing, biting and scratching being done to us. There were about 4 entities in the home, and they made themselves known by appearing all the time….I think it took a lot of energy for them to do that. It was as if they [the four entities] showed themselves whenever they felt like. Although he said there were four of the specters, Doris herself would later claim that there were only three, but the true number was- too many. Even more terrifying still was that the entities began to actively target Doris the worst, and it went from simple pushes, scratches and bites to full on assault, with the ghosts even allegedly holding her down and raping her with abandon. This would often happen in the next room while the terrified children listened to the bangs, thuds, and their mother’s desperate screaming as they cowered in the shadows, but it also sometimes happened right in front of their eyes, and Harris has described these spectral attacks thus: The whole rape thing was real. My room was right next door to my mother’s. I would hear the attacks happening. Things being thrown, her screaming. Then she would come out of the bedroom and have all these bruises. On her legs, her inner thighs. There were times were we would see it happen in front of us. It was like if a man was standing in front of my mother and would start to beat her. Imagine a woman being beaten. You could see her being picked up and thrown around. Sounds, slaps…but there was no one there to actually do it. We all felt it too. pulling, biting and scratching…we were all attacked. These viscious attacks and sexual assaults went on unabated, with the apparitions appearing without warning practically every day and night, and it got to the point where the family was desperate for anyone to help them. The biggest of the entities even gained a creepy nickname for himself, “Mr. Whose-it.” Doris took it upon herself to approach paranormal investigators and parapsychologists Kerry Gaynor and Dr. Barry Taff, who were intrigued by her harrowing tale to say the least, and went about arranging a full investigation into the claims. They would not be disappointed. The team moved in for their investigation on August 22, 1974, thinking at first that there would not be much to this all other than a seriously disturbed young woman. The first thing they did was take a look at the myriad bruises, scratches, and scars that she had all over her body, especially along her inner thighs, allegedly inflicted by the entities and which proved to be far more savage and severe than they had expected. She gave them additional information on the attacks by saying that there were 3 of them (despite her son’s claims that there were 4), and that two smaller ones would hold her down while the bigger one raped her. Intrigued, but not yet sold, the investigators set up their equipment in an effort to gather any evidence at all of a haunting. When this was done, they had Doris go into one of the rooms where the most activity had been occurring and told her to start yelling and cursing at the unseen entities, trying to draw them out. Almost immediately there was intense orb activity captured on the equipment, with spots of light flitting all over the place like angry bees. After this Doris was seen to be enveloped by a greenish mist, followed by the materialization of what appeared to be the upper torso of a man, which hovered there in the mist and was apparently so terrifying that one of the investigators fainted. This torso could not be captured on the equipment, but there is a photograph of Doris with a strange arc of light appearing over her. This sort of intense paranormal activity would could continue virtually unabated for the next several months of the investigation, including apparitions, mysterious lights, temperature drops, horrific mystery scents, and moving objects. It was even noticed that their presence actually seemed to anger and irritate the entities, and it was also found that playing music by the metal group Black Sabbath also seemed to cause an uptick in activity, making it all stronger, but then it suddenly started winding down and stopping altogether for no discernible reason. One of the photos taken during the investigation In later years, Doris would move her and her family to other places on several occasions, but according to her each time the entities would follow her wherever she went, although somewhat weaker than they had been. She would even claim at one point that she had been impregnated by one of the spirits. Although her case had become quite well-known at the time, Doris herself would drop off the radar for years before finally succumbing to cardiac arrest in 1995, leaving us no further along as to what happened to her than when these supernatural forces first targeted her. What exactly happened to this poor woman and her family? What sort of spirits or entities targeted them and why? That would depend a lot on who you ask, but according to Taff himself, it has nothing at all to do with ghosts or spirits as we imagine them. Taff is convinced that the phenomena were caused by the subconscious human mind lashing out to affect the world around it though psychokinesis, the ability to move objects with the mind. In his theory, this is all the result of various factors coming together to cause the mind of a victim to reach out to wreak havoc on the outside world, most often without their awareness that they are even doing so. So insistent is he that this is the case, and that such hauntings are caused by the projections of living beings rather than demons or the ghosts of the dead, that he has expressed disdain for these “paranormal” ideas, saying: I don’t, for one second, believe this is the work of dead people throwing living people around. As there are no academic credentials required for anyone to go out and investigate the paranormal. Every new age groupie is out there looking for demons, emulating the garbage they’ve seen on cable TV paranormal shows. To fully comprehend the possibility that a living person’s subconscious mind can involuntarily generate such power as to manifest luminous anomalies, apparitions, and macroscopic psychokinetic events, is for me, far more compelling than if a discarnate intelligence was responsible. The evidence and collected data suggests these effects are the result of what’s called Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis (RSPK) There’s two types of psychokinesis (moving physical objects around without physical means). There’s microscopic, which works on very small scales, things like affecting random number generators, random event generators, and moving subatomic particles around. It’s usually electrostatic-based, fatigue in the individual is shown, as it’s done on a conscious level. And then there’s macroscopic, what we call ‘poltergeist,’ and that’s a whole different ball of wax. We’re talking about the ability of moving very massive objects, hundreds of pounds easily. It’s done on a subconscious level, as there is no fatigue seen in the person at the core of it. Like the microscopic type, it’s believed that the phenomena are generated by a living human agency. Taff has used this explanation to explain a wide range of what are traditionally considered to be “paranormal phenomena,2 which he has compiled into a book called Aliens Above, Ghosts Below: Explorations of the Unknown, which takes the approach of trying to explain all of these disparate phenomena with possible real world solutions. Others disagree, and say that this was some sort of demonic presence, a trio of ghosts up to no good, or just the delusions of a fractured mind. It has never been solved either way. Whatver the case is remains to be seen, but in the meantime the Doris Bithers case has gone on to become one of the most frightening and controversial cases of a haunting on record. So famous and noteworthy is this mysterious case that it was made into a 1983 Hollywood film based on these events called “The Entity,” starring Barbara Hershey and directed by Sidney J. Furie. and which is loosely based on the real events. What was it that terrorized this family so violently? We may never know for sure. mysteriousuniverse.org/2018/08/a-famous-case-of-truly-frightening-entities/

The last time we were out there, we had some... We had the Latino American Paranormal Society (LAPS – a paranormal organization based out of Chicago) with us and there was some teenagers that came out of nowhere with no flashlights or anything like that. The way it was told to me was that they walked around and they came up to the one guy with the tools and the tape recorder and he talked to him in Spanish, asking about the tools. He answered back in Spanish and they were satisfied and left. But, not only did he but Patti (another researcher) also took photographs of them leaving and what happened is when he got home and listened to the tape, the teenager that was talking to him in Spanish all of a sudden was coming out in English on the tape. And the photographs that they took of these, I guess, teenagers, well behaved by the way, there was nothing there but orbs.” Source: The Unexplained World - June 16, 2008 www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2018/08/daily-2-cents-strange-teenager-entities.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters)

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2018/10/stlouis-strangeness-protective-spirit.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters) Thursday, October 11, 2018 St.Louis Strangeness: Protective Spirit?Posted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStrickler I recently received the following account: Hi Lon, The following is an experience I had along with a few friends in St. Louis, Missouri in 2013 or 2014. A couple of friends and I were taking the train downtown to the Cardinals game. The train was crowded as it often is when the Cardinals play, and I think it was a weekend because I remember the platforms being pretty crowded too. We were standing on the train right next to a large window, and as the train began to slowly pull away from the Central West End station, one of us pointed out, through the window, an older African American gentleman wearing what I'd describe, for lack of a better term, as "classic pimp attire"- a baggy suit, a big fur coat, a huge hat, several large gold chains, etc. If I recall correctly, he was walking with a cane too. Growing up in St. Louis, it wasn't incredibly uncommon to see something like that, but it was definitely uncommon enough that he stood out and was noteworthy. Aside from his attire, nothing seemed unusual about him. We never saw him on the train, just on the platform walking towards the exit as we pulled away. The train pulls away and a few minutes later we arrive at the next station, Grand Ave (the city has since added another station between Central West End and Grand, but at the time, Grand was the next stop). The train stops at the platform and idles for a minute or two as people get on and off the train. As I said, both the train and the platform were pretty crowded. Just as the doors close and the train is ready to leave, we notice the exact same man who we saw at the last stop. This time, though, he's standing directly outside our window and staring blankly right at us. We were probably in total 8 feet away from each other and separated by just a window. The trains pulls away from the station very slowly at first, so it was probably a good 10 seconds or so of direct eye contact. We had not noticed him standing there until the train was leaving, despite having been at the station for a minute or two. At the time, we all thought it was pretty weird, because it was definitely 100% the same guy and there is no way that guy could've beaten the train from one station to the next. As I said, the first time we saw him, the train was already in motion, so it's impossible that he got on the train. The train moves quickly, faster than the streets for sure, so there's really no way he could've travelled from one station to the next by any conventional means. We were stumped for sure, but all thought it was kinda funny and didn't think too much about it. Eventually we made our way to the ballpark and attended the game. After the game ended, we decided to walk to an area where the bars are. From the stadium it is about a 10-15 minute walk to where we were going, through downtown. At night, downtown St. Louis is not exactly bustling, but there are still some people about, going to restaurants or bars, etc. There are obviously more people around before and after Cardinals games. Downtown has a lot of tall buildings so there are a bunch of smaller streets and alleys were you can't see very far in front of you. We were walking down a smaller street like this, not far from the bars we were going to, when we heard something behind us. We turn around to see what looks to be the same guy from the train stations walking about 50 feet behind us. He sees us looking at him and kind of smiles and waves his hand and says something like, "You boys be careful." We all kind of smiled back and said thanks, and turned to keep walking. Just a few seconds later, as we approached the next intersection the old guy behind us shouts something that didn't sound like English. I know some French and Spanish and I don't think it was that either. But just as he shouted, a horse and carriage (these are also common in downtown, they're mostly for tourists) crossed right in front of us from the intersection. It seemed like it came out of nowhere. As it went by I looked at the carriage driver and it was a guy with a hoodie on. For a split second I thought he may not have had a face. But it happened so quickly, that I assume that was just my imagination playing tricks on me. Nobody really thought about it until we got to the bar, but once we sat down and had a moment to think about it, everyone was like, wait, what the hell just happened? We still talk about it and joke about it every now and then. But I don't think group ever really admitted just how strange it all was. It definitely seemed like the old man was trying to protect us, and basically, he kept appearing. I can't figure out how he could've gotten from one station to the next, or why he was looking at us at station 2. And when we met him again in the street, he seemed to just be there.. It's not likely that he had been behind us for very long, because we would've noticed. It's a pretty long walk and you're stopping and waiting to cross the street several times. We would've seen him behind us at some point. Like I said, the faceless man thing could've been my imagination, but that carriage definitely went right by us out of nowhere, and it all seemed connected at the time. So, I don't know.
