www.unexplainable.net/Ghost-Paranormal/Graveyard-Ghost-Hunting.shtmlGraveyard Ghost HuntingBy Chris Capps 2/26/11 There are many different theories about why a graveyard might be a good place to hunt for ghosts. Among them is the theory that the spirits of the dead may be attracted to their former bodies. Others say the body is the gateway to the other side, and those who have died use their bodies to travel back to this plane of existence. But regardless of just why graveyards are so commonly reported as haunted, there are several things you should and should not do while you're among the dead on a ghost hunt. First is the most commonly reported don't. Ghost hunters in the media have started getting a bad reputation as trespassing when they are not allowed to be in a graveyard. Familiarize yourself with the area before you visit it, and be sure to secure permission if you're unsure of whether you're allowed there after a certain hour. Daytime hunts are preferable, but if you manage to secure permission to be there at night, be sure to get it in writing. Next, make sure everyone you bring along is someone you know. And make sure you know they won't be causing any problems or destroying any property. Several perfectly legitimate ghost hunts have been ruined as one member -for reasons not always understood- begins vandalizing the area. Make sure you don't bring anyone along for whom this might be a risk. And if you are hunting in the area at night, you will want to visit during the day as well. This allows you both to familiarize yourself with the surrounding area, and keep an eye out for interesting places you might want to visit. Take some EVPs and let the ghosts know when you'll be back. I went to a popular old graveyard in Atlanta recently. Took about 100 pictures and got nothing. Well, I got a lot of pictures of headstones, but nothing other worldly. It was there during the day, but they did have a tour in the evening. Unfortunately, I was there for a limited time and had other plans.

I go sneaking around in graveyards all the time. I really like the old ones. Even if nothing paranormal happens it is still interesting to look at the gravestones just from a historical perspective. You can learn a lot of history from the info on them.
The best time to see paranormal phenomenon is at night. I'm not sure why ghosts prefer to come out at night rather than in the day time. Maybe there are just fewer distractions so it is easier to spot them. Or maybe the darkness is just spooky, which adds to the excitement.

I agree, Skywalker, the old cemeteries are fascinating. The one in Atlanta had a whole section from the Civil War. The history buff in me was very excited. The people with me, not so much. That was a first for me. In the Midwest you don't see whole sections of cemeteries dedicated to Civil War era.

Not a place I'd advise going to for "messin'" with ghosts, as anything can happen, you have a wide range of types of "them" around and it really isn't safe.
Since my areaa of expertise is dealing with "battlefield ghosts and the like", graveyards are a part of it, no way around them, doesn't mean I'm wild about roaming around in one.

They claim that cemetery is the most haunted one in America. It's just a run-down old abandoned place now. Nobody ever goes there unless they are looking for ghosts or trouble. Sounds like my type of place.

I hate to see gravestones surrounded by weeds. I have tried to find my Mothers grandfathers grave on the net for years. the one killed by the mule. No one knows where he is buried.. In kentucky La Grange to be exact.. he is not in any of the the graves there. We don't know where his wife had him buried. on some farm land family graveyard. The director for this county. sent me e mails all the time and he never had any luck. He may not have a stone is lying around in some weeds somewhere with no identy to his life, that he ever lived. I don't belong to ancestor . com.. I don't think they know either.. All a friend could fine with them was he was a teacher in his very young youth.. and a census in 1850. he was 29 and died in 66. was not found to of diied at all there. LIKE YOU SAID SOME RUN DOWN PLACE. you see his wife moved up here and married another man in her middle 40s.. that is all my Mom could remember.
They are cleaning up our graveyards in backyard of old families here.. So is the whole state of Indianna. As I checked across the ohio river as Mom said they lived there for while . that was a big task, I looked at gravetones in all the graves in Southern Indianna.. I have not tried again in over a year. Gave up hope. My brothers and sisters want to know also before we are gone. My Son Ron, will take over the search.
The first time he got a computer and I had never had one yet. He call me on the phone and says Mom I found 5 David allen mounts in indianna. You want to check them out? I said when did you get a computer . he said three weeks ago. I said how do you like it. He says don't know Mom Looking for your great grandpa is all I have done since I got one. I forgot how he is a family tree person.. Like his mom..
My other kids don't bother.. LOL

His 1850 portrait is on my wall right in front of me now. It sold at a auction of my Mothers cousins. When she died the house sat in state.. they finally sold it all.. My sister bought it. she had a stroke and had to go into a old age home like, Oh is is nice she has her own apt. there but was so worried someone would take it. So she gave it to me a few years ago.. This is why.. I see it everday staring at me, it is like he is saying find my grave and give it my name..

Do you know how he died, or where? Did they have a family graveyard? A lot of families did that a long time ago.

a mule kicked him in the head and he was still talking to my four year old grand mother at the time.. his daughter.. in the yard with his brains hanging out.. He said I see heaven and all its Glory. My grandmother never forgot it. I suppose he died in Lagrange Kentucky rural maybe. He had his mail box pick up in Lagrange.. The county is Oldham.. just east of Louisville. It sits close to the Ohio river.. just over in Indiana. they would go home and visit her Dad on this plantation. I ask Mom how far was it. She said only 20 miles. so where ever they had lived in Indiana it must of been on the river also. But he has no record of being buried there either. They took trips there, that is how my grandmother watched her grandmother shoot her horse to keep the yankees from taking it..
She was only three then.. She sure had a lot of trauma as a year later her Dad was killed. He never lived any where else.. Don't know who his family was . No father or Mother's name. or brother or sister if he had one. You want to hear a real twist. When My grand ma and grandpa got married . they found out they were cousins.. As my Grandfathers grandma was a Mount. I found her records in Kentucky. We all want to know how they were cousins .. how it all fit together.. strange. they were married in Illinois. I guess he never thought to tell her about his family being Mounts expecially when she his grandma was from Oldham also.. Guess I better let this thread get back to graveyards. I can pm you if I want to discuss it any farther.
Yes they could of had a familyi graveyard. His wifes father had a plantation, which I have said before. There name was Clore. The clore cementary still exist along a highwayi today. You look down on it. But the county cordinator told me.. Lois there is not one Mount buried there. I thougth maybe her husband was buried with her family.. I did see one grave Mount in Lagrange cementery on line, all crumbled with no first name .. it was so worn. I looked at tombstones for 12 months straight two years ago. lol lol.. Take a look at the Portrait on facebook.

Where did you see the tombstone at Lois? I live pretty close to lagrange. Maybe I can go look at it sometime and see what it says.
