Hello, it's been over 10yrs since this event and I can't believe it's taken me this long to find this discussion!
Here's my background first....Born and raised in central FL, I've lived here for over 30yrs now, mostly in Seminole county in and around Casselberry. I grew up in Oviedo (about 15min from Casselberry) and I know the area very well. I am educated and experienced in aircraft coatings working as a re-coating tech at Sanford international airport. I'm also experienced in optics and photonics, primarily laser systems as well as automated manufacturing. However, I've spent most of my life outdoors in central FL, many years bicycling off road and hiking.
During the time of this event I was living at 604 Fisher rd. just around the corner from the event site. It's about 2000ft from the site.
It is important to note the geographical changes to the Old dog track (not to be confused with the new dog track a couple miles or so down the road) site where this event occurred. The road, Seminola, that passes through what once was the Old dog track did not exist at the time, nor did the housing on the site or the pond. The closest homes to the site were on Vienna dr. and Easton way.
The site was in a state of what appeared to be abandonment for some years with no more than a few pieces of construction equipment that were very seldom used. I know this because I used to go down there to watch people ride dirt bikes and atv's on the weekends, the tractors there were very old and rarely moved. There was some chain link fencing prior to the event but the site could be accessed through a number of roads leading in without fencing or gating.
On the night of July 4th, 2004 I was in the master bedroom of the house watching the lighting storm hoping it would stop so we could safely go outside and light off fireworks. I was also listening to Mr. Bucket Head’s radio show which was broadcasting from Orlando. Here is where it gets interesting. At the moment of the event, around 9pm if memory serves, Mr. Bucket Head was taking a live call on air from a caller in Daytona beach some 45+ miles away. When the extremely loud booming sound occurred you hear it on the radio and Mr. Bucket Head say something to the effect of what was that, moments later you hear the boom again on the radio coming through the caller’s phone. So it definitely was something on a scale large enough to be heard that far away.
For me I heard it 3 times, Once directly and twice over the radio. Although there was lightning at the time, this was in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM lightning, I am certain of this. It shook the foundation of the home unlike anything I've felt, other than a reentry of the space shuttle that is. I did see a brief flash shine through the window just prior to the sound but unfortunately I was looking away and the light's reflection was cast onto a dark maroon wall so I was unable to tell with any amount of certainty the wavelength (color) of the light.
I was naturally shocked and my immediate thought was that a nuclear device was just detonated. So I went to our most interior room and continued to listen to Mr. Bucket head's program which for the rest of the night and for several days after was consumed with discussion of this event.
I honestly don't recall at this time what I did the rest of that night but I do remember people calling in to Mr. Bucket head's show from down the road reporting that something had exploded at the old dog track site. So the next morning I drove down there to investigate only to be met with newly erected chain link fences about 15-20ft high covered with construction barrier fabric to block any view as well as at least 2 dozen pieces of construction equipment blocking each road entrance to the site.
I personally didn't see any military or official vehicles but I did speak with residence who said they had seen them enter and exit the site frequently. I can attest that dump trucks hauled a very large amount of dirt out of the site for at least 1 week after the event, they worked around the clock. Then I saw them bringing in dirt for several weeks after the first week had passed. It was a very suspicious event to say the least and that wouldn't be last time I'd experience something strange in the area....
A little over 2yrs later in December of 2006 the space shuttle had a night launch, it was the first one in several years and I was excited to go out and watch it. I was living less than 5min from the Old dog track site at Sun Shadow apartments at the intersection of sr 434 and 17-92. I was with my girl friend at the time and my cousin. We had been watching the news watching the pre-launch programming and decided to walk down the block to watch the launch from a small grassy field behind the Winn-Dixie backed up to the apartment complex property.
We got there just in time to see the shuttle peek over the houses to the East. About 30 seconds into watching we all see a cigar shaped aircraft moving across the sky from the south heading north. It was, I'd estimate between 10 and 15 miles from us and passed directly between us and the space shuttle launch. Now what was very strange about this aircraft was that it appeared to be made of some mostly transparent material similar looking to glass!
The only way we actually knew it was there was because of the way it was bending the light behind it. As it came closer to passing between us and the space shuttle you could see more apparently that it was bending the light behind it. I remember like it just happened how we all looked at each other in disbelief and saying DID YOU SEE THAT! It took only about 5 seconds or so to be out of sight and I'd estimate it was traveling at a minimum of 500 mph. If anyone else had seen this aircraft during this 2006 night launch or knows of a thread related to this please let me know..
