Its good to see Australia is up there with the rest, not as much as the US but its there, we have so many joint Australian/US secret bases In the Outback, a lot of people say they are the sites of experimental aircrafts, some say they have taken over the job of Area 51. Can I ask though, Paul, why do you think the US has the most sightings? my theory is that America is the world super power so its like the Aliens hanging around Canberra here in Australia.

Good question. I don't have the answer. Ha! I guess you could take your choice:
There are more reports from America because:
A. Americans are more gullible than everyone else. B. More Americans are bored and looking up at the sky. C. Visitors try to find those with the most advanced technology. D. There are more active sky-watch organizations here. E. America shot down one of their ships and they're plotting their revenge. F. They are using Americans to teach their children how not to behave.

It may have something to do with societal conditioning. (I just made that term up BTW ) But basically, UFOs have been on people's brains here in the US for a long time. Back in the 1800s fiction writers were theorizing about life on Mars or the Moon. In the 1930s we had the War of the Worlds radio broadcast which scared the crap out of some gullible people. In the 40s people started reporting flying discs and other weird ufos which lead Hollywood in the 50s to create all sorts of science-fiction flying saucer and alien movies. Sci-fi was really popular both in the 50s and again in the 70s, especially when Close Encounters and Star Wars came out. The sightings and the movies have continued ever since. And like swampy said we have had a lot of UFO-reporting agencies here (like NICAP, NUFORC, CICAP, AFAR and what's that other one? Oh, yeah...MUFON : . I think people in the US are just more conditioned to accept the possibility of UFOs than other people in other countries who might see something in the sky and think bird, plane, angel, demon, dragon or whatever. Stuff like that doesn't get reported very often.
