From the description the creature sounds like a bigfoot. They are often described as having a really bad odor. That's why they are nicknamed skunk-apes.

I wonder if this "smell" has more to do with travelling through space-time. Since no one ever observes a bigfoot for very long, and it has all that hair, maybe it should cut back on all the miles

Smell seems to be part of the Sasquatch reports. I've never smelled a big ape but the monkey house in the zoos I visited were always rank. Bears (that are omnivoures and probably eat a lot like Sasquatches do (if they are or do) smell really bad. Eating carrion doesn't help.

I've smelled plenty of people who had a rank odor. I suppose being a shaggy-haired beast who doesn't bathe very often probably doesn't help the sasquatches . Whatever diet they have might cause a bad odor also.
