Well...I used to lay in bed awaiting sleep and then hear sounds in the house. Somewhere I posted about this (couldn't find it here in a search).
I would worry that it was a HUMAN intruder. The sounds are LOUD. We have a cluttered kitchen with a island full of plastic containers jumbled in a pile. It would sound like someone knocked into that, knocking stuff on the floor. Like someone coming in through the sliding glass window nearby might do.
But. There apparently are no humans entering our house. Not any with bodies anyway. So now I listen and think, "Well...whatever it is doesn't bother us. So carry on."
And an update on the cigarette smoke I smelled for two days in our living room awhile back. Because we have a wood fire place that we never use...and because the wind sometimes howls down it in heavy winds, I assumed it could be that. Although I had never smelled it before. Well, I've never smelled it since.
I am comfortable with the idea of being visited by someone I was connected to and cared for - from another plane of existence. But I knew no one closely who smoked cigarettes except my Mom. And she and I cleared decades ago and I haven't seen her or my father in dreams or thoughts for many years. So someone who liked the house maybe came back for a visit.
I don't really care. There seems to be no downside (other than curiosity on my part) about all this. If the thump is loud, I jab my husband in the ribs (lying next to me) and he says, "Yeah...I heard it." He is not particularly a curious or fearful guy. It just is for him.
If the census people come I'm going to say, "Two humans and more indeterminate beings." That should get me on another list...
