SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) -- It's been a spooky Michigan mystery for decades.
Some call it folklore, but there are police reports and old newspaper articles to back up the claims.
Now, there's a movie too.
It's called "A Haunting on Dice Road". The movie is the seventh in the "Haunted Saginaw" series. It premieres the weekend before Halloween.
The paranormal investigation focuses on a house on Dice Road in rural Saginaw County, Michigan.
"It's not a Victorian mansion on a hill or anything like that, and you just kind of wonder, how could this little, small farmhouse really be that scary?" said Steve Shippy, the movie's director.
Shippy is also known as "Prozak" in the music industry.
New this year, Shippy was able to track down police officers, firefighters and other witnesses who remember when the unexplainable events started.
The movie also includes reenactments, complete with vintage police cruisers and fire trucks.
"We didn't know if it was an elaborate hoax or if it was paranormal," said Charles Frisby, a retired Saginaw County Sheriff's Office sergeant. He worked on the force from 1971-2000.
It was in 1974 that he was first called to the home at the corner of Dice Road and Chapin Road.
"I was called out there for a prowler call. Complainant said someone was beating on the side of his house," Frisby said.
Deputies couldn't figure out what was going on.
Some wondered if the noises and moving objects were caused by radar interference from the Tri-City Airport. Others questioned whether swamp gas could be to blame.
Police also looked closely at a neighbor boy, but nothing explained the strange occurrences.
To help his investigation, Shippy was given several old police reports about the home's history.
Frisby says you'll notice the reports lack a lot of detail.
"You're running around out there with a badge and a gun and you go tell the sheriff, 'I just saw a bunch of ghosts out there,' and you know what he's going to do? You're going to be sitting up working the jail or working dispatch," Frisby said.
Even so, Frisby said investigators took the problems seriously.
They held several stake-outs at the home, but without the cameras and other technology of today, they didn't have much luck.
"We had to go by what we hear or what we see, and some of the things we saw and some things we heard, we never did, we were never able to explain," Frisby said.
Shippy said this story intrigued him from the start.
"The vast amount of witnesses, the credible witnesses: State troopers, Saginaw County Sheriff's Department, sergeants, firemen," he said.
Frisby can't wait to see his real-life unsolved mystery on the big screen.
"The whole thing escalated. It became a legend in Saginaw County and it still exists today," Frisby said.
