IN HONOR OF INDEPENDENCE DAYblog.moviefone.com/2011/07/01/independence-day-movie-15th-anniversary-where-were-you/?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl4|sec1_lnk3|74878July 2nd, they arrive. July 3rd, they attack. On January 28, 1996, there America sat, stuffed with pizza and beer, happily watching the Cowboys play the Steelers in the Super Bowl, when -- HOLY SH*T! A GIANT SPACESHIP JUST BLEW UP THE WHITE HOUSE! The 'Independence Day' trailer is probably the most influential of the last 15 years, and for good reason. Clocking in at a brief 30 seconds, everyone who watched it didn't soon forget what they saw. These days, with trailers appearing well over a year before the film itself is released, it seems odd to point out that waiting from late January to early July -- a mere five months -- felt like an absolute eternity. On top of that, we knew next to nothing about it. The commercial gave us practically no information -- it didn't tell us who was in it, nor the director, not even a release date. Just a tantalizing "Coming this summer ..." (Check out the ad here.) When 'ID4,' as it came to be called, finally did arrive in theaters on July 3 (or July 2, if you were lucky enough to live near certain canny theaters), it became an instant box office smash and a cultural touchstone. It launched the a film career of a somewhat obscure TV actor / sometime-rapper named Will Smith and made its director/producer team of Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin the kings of Hollywood. In honor of this alien-invasion classic's 15th birthday (Has it been that long? Sigh ...), we at Moviefone thought it'd be fun to reminisce on when we went to see it that summer. After you read our recollections, be sure to let us know your story too. Hit the jump to revisit a dog who barely escapes certain fiery death, a movie screen set ablaze seemingly by the magic of movies, and one of the all-time most inspirational movie speeches.

Thanks AuntyM. Guess the 'mushroom heads' in 'Independence Day' did what the British did back in 1814 (British Army burned down Washington DC & the White house). You would be nasty too if you had to live all your life with a ridiculous shaped head like that. A perpetual bad hair day under a huge Kentucky derby ladies hat. Maybe the aliens should have attacked the films art director instead. Conceptual renderings of what aliens are supposed to look like in a motion picture is always the toughest film assignment. 'Welcome to Earth!' Take that alien a** hole! ;D Thanks, Steve

I didn't see a mushroom head - just lashing tentacles. Maybe my internal censors kicked in. Will Smith has done well both fighting and working for aliens in his movies. I think the aliens have something very similiar to the little flash gun that wiped people's memories in Men in Black. (They may be able to do it without technology.)
People who remember often don't do so for a long time - maybe all that time the mind (and brain wiring) is attempting to get to a blanked out area. I often dream of being somewhere and suddenly everything is pitch black. A therapist friend of mine says that I am in the dissociated memory areas - in black out zone.
I hope your nephew's arm heals Lois and that he learned from his lesson.
We have Independence Day on July 1st in Canana (Federation Day). People drink too many beers and eat hot dogs - its about the same. I went up into the bush where the only sound (once we turned off the vehicle) was birdsong and water running downhill everywhere from the snow melt.

'I went up into the bush where the only sound (once we turned off the vehicle) was birdsong and water running downhill everywhere from the snow melt. ' Pauline.
That sounds wonderful. I can see and feel those images in my mind. The silence at first can be deafening I bet, but the mind naturally adjusts, being reminded after thousands of years of what it once was, or perhaps should be like. Good medicine.
I have had a number of people randomly suddenly remember encounters in unexpected ways later. These may come haphazardly, without continuity to the flow of events that might have happened.
Sometimes hypnotic regressions will put certain memories into context in some order the experiencer can identify. Like scenes in a movie trailer, vs. how now seen in the film in it's entirety related to the story. The disturbing thing is these are memories of things that have passed. It must be disturbing not to remember certain things. Fleeting glimpses of uncertainty. Did it really happen that way?
Some memories come out decades later. But the stimulus to forget such memories may not always be by the 'phenomenon', or by the minds natural coping mechanisms. It might be by other 'agencies' we may be learning too.
Recently a man came to an UFO researcher I know who was a navy photographer in Vietnam in the 1960's. Stationed in Da Nang, he was ordered into the jungle with a special operations group to find & locate a downed B-52 Stratofortress.
They found the B-52, and he photographed it extensively for the military Intel people. The bomber appeared to have not crashed. It was as if the huge bomber was a giant model placed down in high grass. No damage to the thick jungle growth anywhere. The plane was not broken up, nor the jungle, no fires.
He photographed the 5 crew members - dead, still strapped in their seats. All five crewmen had been mutilated in a systematic pattern, exactly like later cattle mutilations. After, the bomber was destroyed deliberately to hide the evidence with an air strike using phosphorous (very hot stuff).
They returned to Da Nang, and the photographer 'debriefed', was hypnotized, and given sodium pentothal (not to remember - but to forget everything).
The photographer's memory block had recently melted away. The things you learn in this advocation. Things Mufon fears to tread.
This UFO researcher spoke about this and other similar taboos at a Mufon Symposium in Denver one year. The audience was enthralled. He was told by the Mufon board members if he spoke about such subjects, he would never speak at another symposium again. He did anyway to his credit. In the dogma of Mufon, aliens it seems are supposed to be 'nice'.
It is not whether aliens are 'nice' or not. It is 'facts' considered objectively as they are that are ultimately in the end what is 'nice'. Unbeknownst to most of it's well meaning members - as a former Chief Investigator and assistant state director - Mufon has and continues to be the secret keepers.

Wow Steve!! That's a true story, huh? Simply amazing! Thank you for sharing with us!!
Happy fourth of July everyone... Lois, I hope your grandson's arm heals soon with little scarring. My first boyfriend in high school burned his eyebrows off with fireworks one year... lol... when he was 14...
I'm happy. I get paid double time on the fourth of this month... and I have a total of 48 hours this week... so 8 hours double time, and 8 hours of time and a half. It will be a nice paycheck this week... ;D ;D ;D but I know I will be feeling it in my legs and feet.
Totally worth it though. Cha-Ching!

endlessjrny.blogspot.com/2011/06/4th-of-july-tricky-time-for-lights-in.htmlThe 4th of July weekend is about to begin in the United States of America. It is a federal holiday where we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence which stated that our 13 colonies where independent from Great Britain. It happened on July 4th 1776 and we have been celebrating the event every July 4th since. It is a time of fun and family, fireworks and BBQ's , beach parties and backyard cookouts, picnics and parades. My family and I have spent many of these holiday weekends at the home of a family member who lives on the beach. We have a large BBQ followed by watching fireworks down on the beach. It is a fun time which Americans look forward to. It also is a the kickoff for our summer months. A few years ago a strange thing happened during one of the family 4th of July celebrations. We were at large party at my family members home located on the north coast of Long Island New York. It is a lovely beach home on the Long Island Sound facing the state of Connecticut . The area is one of family homes built on the shore along the beach which makes them the target for many family summer parties. Over the 4th of July Weekend my family member and all her neighbors have lots of company and we all have lots of fun. We can swim all day or sit on the beach or in a few steps be back on the deck of the houses built along the beach or inside the many screened rooms and air conditioned homes. In the summer it is like visiting a resort. During the 4th of July this neighborhood is packed with people as everyone has company, parties, leaving the beach, homes and road covered with people. This was the case during the 4th of July a few summers back that I saw something that caught me off guard. TO CONTINUE READING CLICK ON ABOVE LINK

Over the years many witnesses have video taped ufos at fireworks displays. I have tried to make sense of it. It is such a small destruction. Nothing like our weapons they have shut down in the past. Maybe they find it amusing or entertaining. I don't see aliens being entertained. They probably don't have that concept.... lol ... just their agenda is all they think about.....

HAPPY FOURTH. Stay safe. I don't only mean from the fireworks but from the heat. We have been in the three digit numbers for days now. You mix that with our terrible humidity it is pure torture. I went out to my garden just now every leaf is laying the ground curled up in tiny balls.
I hope water survives them tonight.
Every one have a great time today. Our display of fireworks is only two block to the water from me. I take my folding chair and sit right down on the waters edge. The noise from this has never hurt my brain. Remarkable. .....Hope it is a lot cooler by then.
Auntym you and I seem to be the only replies. Every one is feeding their faces probably. Like watermellon. I made Macaroni salad. It is way to hot to cook . All the rain is north of us everyday in Chicago. We have not even had a good storm this year yet.
GOD BLESS AMERICA...

Here's my happy to be an American rant on the 4th. I came to Canada in 1976. At that time I had to revoke my citizenship (America's rule) so that I could swear allegiance to the Queen (That's the Queen of England who doesn't ask Canadians to do anything). I did so. Then I went and RE-APPLIED for my citizenship so that my two children would have a choice of where they wanted to live. My son was interested in computers - that might have led him to the Silicon Valley - except that collapsed. He's in the computer industry here. NO ONE EVER SAID - you need to keep abreast on any and all rules we might make in your absence. They HAD MY ADDRESS. They never sent me anything. Years passed.
Then the US of A decided that all Americans living abroad were fair game to be taxed for income IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND WITH FOREIGN TAXES ALREADY PAID ON IT. They demanded bank account paperwork and THREATENED HUGE FINES for those who didn't back file. I back filed. There was a rebate made available for those of us who complied. I got a letter saying they didn't understand what my name was. I sent a carefully crafted letter explaining my name changes from my birth name, through three marriages. I got an EMAIL that might or might not have been bogus saying my claim was rejected. No one at the tax preparers office believed that the USA government would write me an email. But then again - I never got a letter and definitely not a check.
MEANWHILE. The US of A is fining and threatening Canadian tax preparers - and insisting that they take many hours of training and suing them for wrong details. So they have to have serious insurance and so my return which reports 0$ made in the USA and 22,000$ made in Canada cost me first 200$, this year 300$ and I'm told soon 500$. I don't know if I'll get the incentive money (the offer was only good until 2011) but I do know that I was raging at the last preparer. But the problem is - I was supposed to update my US social security number through my various name changes. It never crossed my mind. Now they won't accept my name! I lost one divorce paper and have no idea how much it will cost to get another one or if I can - since I DON'T HAVE EVIDENCE.
And so I say - Happy 4th of July. You can keep the watermelon and fireworks and attitude. We've got that here as well. I may just stay here for the rest of my life without even visiting down south. Too bad - I still have some friends in Texas.

Shuttles leaving for mars?? I'm fortunate as I can be. I have a place to lay my head at night...a roof over my head and food enough to eat and share with my family. There are people around the world who do not have that. So I know I'm fortunate. I live in a two bedroom apartment...I don't own a car...we make less than $1600 a month and I KNOW I am very fortunate indeed. Hasn't a thing to do with the government...although I hear there are worse ones. The next batch in office will be just as bad as the ones in there now...so..only thing we can do..is instead of celebrating a national holiday..celebrate instead the good we have..the friends..the family..the little grey men ( : and stay as positive as we can. That's my line and I'm sticking to it LOL

They have gotten so far away from what they are supposed to be you can't even recognize them anymore. The stupid politicians want to control everything and turn the country into some socialist police state like Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union. Stupid government! You're not the only one ranting and raving about all of the bureaucratic BS, Paulette. The people are about to explode. It's just a matter of time before they do...probably some time around November.

Is it really here? Where has Time gone? I've been hearing my windows rattle, and a few things pelt my roof. So much for fireworks being illegal in Kansas city, Mo.! Lol. In Blue Springs and Independence, Mo. there is a firework stand set up about every 100 ft. along the main roads. Unbelievable! We had a good rain here last night and our electricity was off for a few hours. Less worry about fires. . . . Keep Safe and Keep your eyes open for the "unusual"!
