The Hill case has a number of things going for it. One, this case was basically the first of this kind - publicly at least. It was very unique when the story broke in the public. The book 'The Interrupted Journey' was a New York Times best seller. The basic elements of the case (missing time, the kind of beings, etc.) have been repeated many times since. Importantly too, Dr. Benjamin Simon who regressed the Hills each separately was a real skeptic. So you cannot accuse Dr. Simon of employing leading questions during the regressions - which gives the case all the more credibility IMO. So in hindsight, I think the Hills being refereed to Dr. Simon was the perfect choice, besides his very capable skills and reputation in the medical community. He had had extensive experience working successfully with war veterans with what is now diagnosed and labeled as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). If any bias ever surfaced, if anything else...it would have been likely to dismiss. After extensive hypnosis sessions, Dr. Simon concluded that Barney's recall of the UFO encounter was a fantasy inspired by Betty's dreams. Though Simon admitted this hypothesis did not explain every aspect of the experience. Dr Simon thought it was the most plausible and consistent explanation (and perhaps the safest?) . Barney rejected this idea, noting that while their memories were in some regards interlocking, there were also portions of both their narratives that were unique to each. Barney was now ready to accept that they had been abducted by the occupants of a UFO, though he never embraced it as fully as Betty did. Though the Hills and Dr. Simon disagreed about the nature of the case, they all concurred that the hypnosis sessions were effective: the Hills were no longer tormented by anxiety about the UFO encounter. After wards, Simon wrote an article about the Hills for the journal Psychiatric Opinion, explaining his conclusions that the case was a singular psychological aberration. But since, the prevailing popular opinion now seems the event occurred more or less as the Hills described, or skeptics reject it out of hand completely. Steve

New Hampshire is beautiful, especially up in the White Mountains. It's one of the nicest spots in the northeast. Beings travel millions of light years just to go there and hang out with the locals.

To expound a bit on a racial reference..does anyone have any idea of abductions reported by races other than white? I've only heard of Barney Hill. Naturally abductions coming out of other countries (especially communist countries) aren't likely to filter down to our ears and probably wouldn't be reported at all..but it does make me wonder about other races in our own country. What I'm wondering is (and probably always will be) if abductions are a matter of convenience (some poor schmuck driving or riding along in a rural area) or if they are calculated and planed. There are not as many reported 'psychics' of other races as there are of white. I'm still looking for abduction parameters. Steve when you interview witnesses or abductees, would it be a question you would ask (or could ask) if they have any kind of latent psychic ability? I'm half convinced that it plays a role in abductions. Maybe signals put out by the brain are a little different..more on the wavelength of other beings..an attractant. At any rate it's part of my 'why' endeavors Abductions do not seem to be exclusive to a narrow range of racial profiles. I remember a number of black (male) experiencers. I remember one particularly that was featured on the Robert Stack series 'Unsolved Mysteries' (not Barney). I do not recall many black women though come to think of it. But it maybe simply due to who is willing to come forward out of the closet and tell their story publicly. I remember reading somewhere some gays were actually upset at the possible notion alien's were ignoring certain parts of the population because of sexual orientation. That is not true it turns out either. Upset because they were not abducted? I think that opinion was more an interpretation reflecting their own struggle for social equality than anything else perhaps. I am not too sure anymore abductions are a matter of convience....or random. It maybe all according to a methodical pattern. It may only seem convientent..... because of their great apparent ease in which these entities can 'pluck' anyone at their will. I ask several things along psychic lines to abdcutees. I ask them how much they enjoyed learning in school and/or college. Had they ever had a IQ test? Often their IQ's were higher than average to quite high. Also just my general impressions that come accross as a layman about their intellect. I ask also if witnesses think they have any psychic abilities, either possibly real or imagined. In their own self assessment, after their experiences are these perceived psychic abilities they may feel they have now somehow enhanced? It maybe very well the case, or they have somehow acquired some kind of new communication ability (perhaps from an unknown assist by an implant?) they misinterpret as new found psychic ability. What is psychic ability in their own mind supposed to be like? It might also be entirely organic on their part. Maybe we have a latent ability we are not aware of which the aliens 'switch on', perhaps through hypnotic suggestion? But humans can also impress hypnotic suggestions too! Meaning if that were possible, it might have been discovered within us by now? Maybe there are wavelengths the mind might be radiating we are not aware of yet. Many nuts and bolts researchers limit their ability to interpret certain unusual abilities that cannot be measured yet scientifically. There maybe in reality no such thing as 'paranormal', simply a new phenomenon we do not really understand yet. Steve I have a theory about what is going on with these abductions. I think that the beings are abducting people because they are trying to make contact with us. Not like contact between equals but more like contact between humans and animals, because that is what we are to them...just a lower species of life-form. Whenever people communicate with animals we do so by teaching them our language...Sit, fetch, roll over...we don't get down on all fours and start barking, growling and wagging our butts back and forth. We give them simple commands in English, or whatever language we happen to speak. Some researchers have even communicated with primates teaching them sign language, but once again we are teaching the animals a form of our language. The aliens may be doing the same thing. These beings reportedly communicate telepathically, so in order to communicate with us they attempt to teach us their language. They probably couldn't copy ours because they don't have mouths and vocal chords that can mimic the sounds that we make. or maybe they just have no desire to learn our language. When is the last time anybody learned to bark in dog language? We don't do it. Why should they? In order to communicate with us telepathically they have to select the individuals who are more prone to telepathy. Personally, I think that everybody has that ability to a certain extent, I just think it is more pronounced in certain people. It is those people that the aliens seek out. Perhaps their brains give off a certain signal or wavelength, or maybe the beings are able to tune into them somehow and know who is a better candidate for telepathic communication. I think that this is one of the criteria they use to choose their abductees. I think this also explains some of the medical procedures that they perform. Many abductees report having things inserted into their nose, ears, mouth or eyes. We assume that they are placing some sort of implant or tracking device in us because that is what our scientists do when they capture wild animals. We don't know what the aliens are doing or why, so we try to understand them by assigning them human motives and behavior patterns. I personally don't think that there are any such implants though, or if there are that they are used for something other than tracking us. Instead of injecting people with implants, what if what they are really doing is trying to help people to communicate telepathically by modifying their brains? In order to do this they have to be able to access the brain, which is usually surrounded by a thick bony skull. There are holes in the skull though...where the eyes, ears, nose and mouth are. Maybe they are using these holes to stick something into the brain in order to modify or stimulate it somehow. Perhaps that is why people who have been abducted often report an increase in psychic abilities following their abductions. If the beings really are trying to communicate with us than it would explain some other things as well. Many abductees report that they were shown images of nuclear wars and death, destruction and devastation. Others report that they were being taught to do certain things for some reason or another. Maybe these teachings are part of the alien agenda. Maybe they are training people for some future event orb purpose. I think that this theory about them making an attempt to communicate with us might also explain the so-called hybrid program. Perhaps they are attempting to make communication between our species easier by creating a race of people who have very well developed psychic and telepathic abilities. If they took the sperm and eggs from a man and woman who were both telepathic then it would make sense that the offspring of two telepathic people might be even more prone to these psychic abilities. If my crazy theory is right than maybe they are trying to land on the White House lawn so to speak, and communicate with us. Maybe they are just trying to make contact after all. Betty and Barney were just among the first of many.

www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/09/19/50th-anniversary-ufo-abduction-story/ 50th Anniversary of First UFO Abduction Story Published September 19, 2011 Associated Press Sept. 14, 2011: A car passes through Franconia Notch where a state marker commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of a UFO sighting. In 1961, Betty and Barney Hill recalled seeing a large, flying disc-shaped object, and eventually said through hypnosis that they were abducted by extraterrestrials. LINCOLN, N.H. – Fifty years after Betty and Barney Hill reported seeing a flat, cigar-shaped craft hovering over them in New Hampshire's White Mountains, the state has put up a historical marker noting their close encounter with a UFO. Returning from a vacation in Canada on Sept. 19, 1961, the Hills arrived home in Portsmouth puzzled by stains and tears on Betty's dress, scuffs on Barney's shoes and shiny spots on their car. Their watches weren't working. When they got home, they realized they had "lost" about two hours of time. They called family and reported the event to Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth the next day. Barney, who had binoculars, later told science investigators that he could see figures on the craft. The couple also reported seeing a fiery orb. In 1964, they underwent a series of taped hypnosis sessions -- recalling they had been abducted and physically examined by "men" who did not appear to be human. Paintings and a sculpture of their descriptions depicted them with large, bald heads, slanted eyes and gray skin. "They dragged me, kicking and screaming," Betty told The Associated Press in a 1986 interview. In 1965, their story, known to only a small circle of investigators, close friends and family, was leaked to the Boston Traveler, which published it. Their UFO experience was described in a best-selling book in 1966, "The Interrupted Journey: Two Lost Hours Aboard A Flying Saucer," by John Fuller; a 1975 television movie starring James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons, "The UFO Incident"; and numerous speaking engagements. Last week, Hollywood writer-producer Bryce Zabel, who developed the UFO conspiracy series "Dark Skies" in the 1990s, said he is planning to make a new film about the couple's experience. In July, the state erected a historical marker to the "Betty and Barney Hill Incident" in Lincoln near some cabins at the Indian Head Resort on Route 3, one of the last places the couple recalled seeing that night. The resort is the site of a conference Sept. 23-25 devoted to what the state marker describes as "the first widely-reported UFO abduction report in the United States." Kathleen Marden, the Hills' niece, will give a guided tour of places they stopped at during their encounter. "How many states have courage enough to do something like that? Even the state of New Mexico hasn't put up a plaque for Roswell," asked Stanton Friedman, a nuclear physicist who was the first civilian investigator of the Roswell incident, a purported UFO crash on a ranch in July 1947. The military later declared it was a top-secret weather balloon. Read more: www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/09/19/50th-anniversary-ufo-abduction-story/#ixzz1YQDf8ieW

But the world's first widely reported alien abduction -- the case against which all other alleged E.T. kidnappings are measured -- has never hit the big screen. Bryce Zabel hopes to change that. Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the reported UFO kidnapping of Betty and Barney Hill in New Hampshire, Zabel, a former president of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the organization that produces the Primetime Emmy Awards), has announced his intent to make the definitive movie about the Hills' experience. The film will be based on the book "Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience" by Stanton Friedman and Kathleen Marden. "I think, with modern filmmaking techniques, we can make a movie that will be more of a credible telling of the story," said Zabel. WATCH A VIDEO OF THE HILLS' STORY: ... This is the story the Hills told: On the night of Sept. 19, 1961, they were driving south on Route 3 through the White Mountains, en route to their Portsmouth, N.H., home, when they saw a large, lighted object in the sky following them and then rapidly descending toward their car. The Hills grew frightened as the silent, circular craft loomed closer to them. Barney was especially afraid when he noticed, through binoculars, what he described as several humanoid figures standing at the windows of the mysterious craft. Fearing they were about to be captured, the Hills drove quickly away. Shortly afterward, they found themselves 35 miles farther along on the road and later realized they couldn't remember approximately two hours of time from that night. Eventually, a well-known psychiatrist and neurologist, Dr. Benjamin Simon, used a technique called regression hypnosis to help unlock the Hills' forgotten memories. Through many separate hypnotic sessions, the Hills recounted a tale of being abducted by alien beings into the UFO and given physical examinations before being returned to their car with their memories erased. "The first time I saw the occupants was a group of them standing in the highway, just prior to our capture," Betty Hill told this reporter in 1975. "As far as appearance, we described them as four-and-a-half to five feet tall, humanoid-like, very large eyes that slanted upward, very flat nose, just a thin slit for a mouth, a grayish complexion, and that they were all dressed alike. I don't think I was really prepared for their appearance -- I was terrified," Betty recalled. CONTINUE READING: www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/14/betty-barney-hill-alien-abduction-ufo_n_962485.html

This is wonderful. As so often said...hope 'Hollywood' gets it right for once. It is such an important and landmark case, it deserves serious consideration by a new generation where everyone knows what alien abductions are, but don't really know what it means or where it originated culturally.
The 1976 TV film was well done, it conveyed the incident and the questions raised well, the relationship between Betty and Barney. Some years later some scoff at the aliens appearance, that it could have been done perhaps better. Perhaps, but as story telling in a limited TV budget it got the point across. They mentioned it is based on Kathleen's book, so I hope Kathleen Marden is directly helping personally. Sure old huckster Stan Friedman will push his way into it for the attention. I love the fresh new photos from the University of New Hampshire archives. Tired of the same old ones all over the Internet.
I wonder if they will mention some of the things after the incident in the book. Like Carl Sagan being one of several investigators that had Betty try to telepathically invite the aliens to pay a visit at a prearranged location? Yes, Sagan. It might hopefully ruffle some of the stuffys at Harvard about Sagan's legacy that took Dr. Mack to task because Mack had the guts to ask the legitimate questions.

Carl Sagan, the Pulitzer Prize-winning astronomer, was among the Hills' debunkers, yet he considered their story noteworthy. It was, he wrote, "the first alien abduction story in the modern genre," the template for countless subsequent accounts of earthlings encountering intelligent beings from the outer limits. Isaac Asimov described Sagan as one of only two people he ever met whose intellect surpassed his own. articles.latimes.com/2004/oct/24/local/me-hill24

"Asimov described Sagan as the one of only two people he ever met whose intellect surpassed his own...."
I think Issac Asimov, Carl Sagan, along with Leonard Bernstein were also the only persons ever to have their egos preserved in glass jars at Harvard too. ;D
Sagan was/is a remarkable man. I wish Sagan was still around for many reasons. His continued contributions of course, more wonderful books, to witness the many new breakthroughs in theoretical physics,.....but perhaps also to see his dismay on his face knowing how the Hill abduction story over so long a time still has legs. It just refuses to go away. Perhaps that means something.
Would Sagan, if he had the opportunity for a longer life, to be long settled in retirement and living comfortably, could ever dare consider in the face of his peers he could be wrong about the Hill story? His last book, 'The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark' would suggest not.
Maybe through another book he wrote, 'Contact', Sagan felt safe enough to release himself from his self-established norms and let his fictional character Dr. Arroway in meeting her alien speak for him? I still keep feeling irritatingly about Sagan there is something still unspoken here.

I love the picture of Barney with his arms around Betty. This is a courageous picture! At the time it was taken, it would have doomed both of them to serious prejudice and probably violence in Texas (where I grew up). In spite of the fact that the article above stated that the hypnotic regression removed the fear from Barney, Betty (especially in her older self) seemed driven to tell her story over and over. (I identify with that). She didn't seem "OK" and would take probably everyday occurances (lost earrings) to offer as proof that she was still experiencing contact.

I think the Hills were courageous in every aspect. To be a mixed couple then to come forward with a very incredible story and then to actually convince as many as they did..for that place in time was nothing short of astonishing! They made it possible for others to come forward..they established a precedence

www.ufodigest.com/article/%E2%80%9Cwhere-are-you-map%E2%80%9D “Where are YOU on this map?” Submitted by Steve Pearse Fri, 06/01/2012 Last September 19th, 2011 marked the 50th anniversary of the Betty and Barney Hill case, one of the world’s best known and documented cases of alien abduction ever recorded in the history of Ufology. On a lonely road in the White mountains of New Hampshire, they became the victim to the perfect crime of a horrific abduction by the occupants of an unknown flying object late at night. The Hills’ story is a richly detailed CEIII-5 abduction case with a highly unusual epic tale of being stopped by a group of humanoids on a side gravel road and taken aboard their landed spacecraft for medical examination. It soon became the most thoroughly investigated UFO case study ever, and their story got worldwide attention. Within a week after they arrived back home, both Betty and Barney Hill started having nightmares, flashbacks to the missing two hours of time that they could not account for. They were taken back by the scary thoughts and images that they were experiencing, and the anxiety they were feeling was absolutely overwhelming. Barney was becoming very troubled with everything, and he later confided with his personal doctor, who then referred Barney to another doctor in the same building Dr. Duncan Stevens. After treating Barney Hill for about six months, Dr. Stevens decided that the couple really needed to see a specialist in the field of psychotherapy who used hypnosis. Doctor Stevens then referred them to Dr. Benjamin Simon in Boston, Massachusetts, and their first consultation took place on a Saturday morning on December 14th, 1963. Note: Marjorie Fish merges the two large nickel sized stars into one dot One of the more memorable events that took place while they were on board the alien spacecraft was Betty Hill’s impromptu question to the leader being as she asks him: Where do you come from? She was very curious about their origins and wanted to know where his home port was, so she asked him where he was from; and then in response, he asked her if she knew anything about the universe. She advisedhim that she knew practically nothing. The leader being in the room with her then walked across the room and opened up a cabinet in the side and pulled out a map from the opening in the wall, he put it up and then he asked her if she had ever seen a map like this before? Betty then walked across the room and looked up to view the star map that she said was a three dimensional holographic image of the heavens. Betty says she leaned against the table that was in front of her. Under hypnosis Betty described the star map as being oblong. The star map that she was looking at had dots scattered all over it, some were little, some just pin-points, and two others were as big as a nickel. She went into further detail as she then said that she saw curved lines going from one dot to another. When Betty asked him to explain what the lines indicated, he told her that the broken lines were expeditions to other worlds. As she looked at the star map she wondered where he was from, and then out of curiosity she asked him where he was from, but he never volunteered the answer. Instead he turned the question around and asked her: “Where are you on this map?” Betty chuckled and told him that she didn’t know; and then he replied, “If you don’t know where you are, there wouldn’t be any point in my telling you where I am from.” He never volunteered any specific information as to where their home world was at. John Fuller would later write the book: The Interrupted Journey documenting the Betty and Barney Hill story. CONTINUE READING: www.ufodigest.com/article/%E2%80%9Cwhere-are-you-map%E2%80%9D

The UFO Incident (Full Movie) - Betty & Barney Hill Abduction (1975)
Published on Sep 4, 2012 by ufoabductee
I DON'T OWN THIS COPY WRITTEN MATERIAL. I will be posting some of the most important UFO documented movies on my site now. To me this is one of the most important documented cases ever on UFO Abduction. Rest in Peace Betty & Barney Hill. Betty and Barney Hill were an American couple who claimed to have been abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of New Hampshire on September 19--20, 1961. The couple's story, called the Hill Abduction, and occasionally the Zeta Reticuli Incident, was that they had been kidnapped for a short time by a UFO. Theirs was the first widely-publicized claim of alien abduction, adapted into the best-selling 1966 book The Interrupted Journey and the 1975 television movie The UFO Incident.

I have watched this for as long as it came to TV. I have a vhs tape of it. Been about two years since the last time I watched it. James Earl Jones did a good job like sky says. This tape of mine, has this movie Roswell and Communion on it. I have always guarded it.
There were things about the Barney and Betty case I did not even know, even though I watched these two come out on TV for the first time in mid 60's . It was the Art Linkletter show. On in the afternoons . My Mother and Law watched it together. This was long before the movie. She laughed so hard and I found my self sort of laughing also. We could not believe the aliens were taking people. Yes I had seen ufos but for them to abduct people was not at all possible.
At mufon I was telling about me and Louise having missing time right after the beeps. Steve had read it and made a reply. I won't forget this as long as I live. He said " Lois .this happen at the same time Betty and Barney were Abducted." He was not on the forum at the time. It raised the hair on my arms and give me chills to the bone. OMG, it can't be there were on Art Linkletter long after what had happened to Louise and I.
I had assumed they had been abducted at this time but no it was 61 not 65 0or 66 like I had thought. I ran to my bookcase and got the book on the opening page. It had 1961 abduction. I sat in front of my computer for about 15 minutes staring at it trying to figure out what to say to Steve.
I do not remember my post now. But I called long distance to Louise even though it was very late. You see I would wait up til midnight for Steve to come on the forum. He always has something very interesting to say about what case he was on. I really was learning a lot.. I would save everything it told. But Lost in all to another computer. Anyway. I told Louise when we heard the beeps and found ourselves on the other side of Bloomington the fall in September could of been done by Aliens . She must of thought me crazy.
I had it all figured out. we went out on the week end Betty and Barney I believe was returning home the following Tuesday. If my memory is correct.

When one hears beeps, who would think it had anything to do with alien abduction? But I knew for a fact. We moved to a different location in town a couple of seconds after we heard the beeps. I left it at... we must of went through some time portal.. We did not a talk about this again. But I never for it or those beeps. The one thing we did not do was look at the time. I know we left the drive through at steak and shake around 12:30. We got to her apt we did not check the time, but talked for awhile . I do not remember anything else about that night or following day. We did not tell a living soul. We had no night mares either. But they did come back to Louise in 66 with a green light covering her back yard. til 3 am. It was not until 72 that i had my ufo encounter with a green wide beam. i call it a floodlight more so.

It's kind of interesting that they are still doing tests on the dress but it is a shame they have to keep cutting holes in it. That dress is a part of history.

Well..if it were really giving answers I'd say go for it and keep on going for it..but it's never provided anything definitive other than some proteins that aren't common I think? A substance they can't identify. To me..that means something that backs up Betty's story..gives her credence..but isn't something easily said to be 'alien' slobber or something like that

The article said that they detected an "oily" substance on the outside of the dress. The question I would have is whether or not it is even related to the abduction. Did she ever wear this dress again after the abduction event happened or did she pack it away and never touch it again?

It sounds like Betty Hill noticed a stain, and put the dress away (hung it in her closet ?). She mentally made a decision not to wash it, even though right after the event she didn't know what had happened to her? This happened on their honeymoon?? Ye gads ;D. Anyway, we are pretty lucky that this dress wasn't confiscated at some point. Which makes the test results more odd. Thanks for the articles. I'm curious about the rest of the Hill's lives. Especially with just one major event. What else would you recommend I read?

As far as I know..neither of them were ever 'bullied' or threatened over the abduction and subsequent interviews. They were never told to keep their mouths shut and Betty seemed to be more at east talking about it than Barney was. They were amazing enough in that they were a mixed color couple back in days when that was frowned upon and still came forward with this. To me..it gave it more credence especially considering they were a mature couple..not kids. When many people began remembering or when they had abductions..there was no internet to 'research'. We all thought we were alone. Betty and Barney helped..there were some magazine articles about them..and it gave others some point of reference..some kinship. I'm pretty grateful to them for just that
