I originally made this post on another thread but since there are a lot of people asking how to do things on the forum I am going to start a new thread about some helpful computer tips. If you feel totally lost never fear cuz Skywalker is here to the rescue! ;D
Actually I am probably the last person in the world who should be showing people how to use a computer because I am a total tard about puters, but since I started this forum I had to force myself to learn how to do it. I am not totally clueless now...just halfway clueless.
There are several different ways you can highlight or emphasize words. You could use italics, or underline, or make them [glow=red,2,300]glow,[/glow] or even make them bigger or different colors.
There are also several different ways you can do it. I'll show you a few of them. First, when you are ready to make a post go down to the bottom right corner of the page where it says "reply, share and print" and click on the "reply." That should bring up a screen that looks like this...
Just above the smiley faced dudes you see two rows of little square boxes with letters and stuff in them. Each of those little squares will allow you to do different things with the words you are writing. All you have to do is when you are writing something and you come to a word that you want to emphasize just click on the square that you want to use. It will show up as something inside two sets of brackets that look like this [ ] [ ]. This is what you were doing wrong earlier...you were using ( ) instead of [ ]. Also you don't need the quotation marks around the i if you are using italics.
If you click on one of the boxes it will show you what the code is supposed to look like. The second box from the left on the top row is for the italics. It has a big I in it.
Whichever words you put in between the two sets of [ ] [ ] will be emphasized. When you want to continue typing normally just click outside of the square bracket thingies and it will start writing normally again.
Another way you can do it is to use your mouse to highlight whichever word you want to emphasize. Just click on the word or words and move your little mouse thing across it until it is highlighted...it will probably be a light blue color. Then just go up to whichever square box you want to use and click on it and it should automatically modify whichever word you had highlighted. You can even do whole sentences or even paragraphs like that.
I would recommend that you just experiment with them to see what the different boxes do. Just in case you have problems with it ( and don't feel bad if you do cuz it took me forever to figure this stuff out ) I will write out the codes for some of the stuff so you can just type them in. I can't write them on the computer because the actual codes don't show up on the screen when you send the message so I will write them on a piece of paper and take a picture of it.
On the youtube thingy, which is the first square on the left of the bottom row of squares you just copy the link for the video you want to post from youtube and put the link in between the two brackets just like you would do with the others. That will make the video actually show up on the forum.
To make words different colors, like this or this, you just click on where it says "Colors" at the far right side of the two rows and then click on whichever color you want it to be. Just put the word you want colored in between the two sets of brackets just like before and it will be colored.
I hope this helps. If you have any trouble or questions about anything feel free to ask.
