www.newscientist.com/article/mg21428666.100-squaring-the-genetically-modified-crop-circle.html Squaring the genetically modified crop circle 24 May 2012 by Matthew C. Nisbet If researchers want to make progress with genetically modified crops, they must join their opponents in examining regulation CONTROVERSY over genetically modified wheat is building to what seems likely to be confrontation in the UK on 27 May. (Image: Andrzej Krauze) On that day, the anti-GM group Take Back the Flour has called for protesters to gather 30 minutes from London at the site of field trials, and to "decontaminate" the area by destroying the crop. Researchers involved with the trials have responded with an open letter and video appeal to the protesters, urging restraint. But as this case and emerging food-biotech conflicts in the US show, an easy, communication-based fix is elusive. If scientists want to ensure they can do such research, they need to join activists in critically examining the system which governs this technology and its commercial use. By offering clear societal benefits, the wheat being tested was expected to be a game-changer. It produces a pheromone that should protect the crop from aphids, reducing reliance on insecticide in the UK and helping farmers in developing countries who may not have insecticide. Rothamsted Research, the publicly funded institute conducting the trial, says it won't patent the technology and plans to make it available to farmers at minimum cost. To guard against contaminating conventional wheat in the area, buffers surround the trial zone. In their letter and video, the scientists emphasise potential environmental benefits, invite protesters to meet them to talk about the science, and emphasise the need for freedom of enquiry. "We do not see how preventing the acquisition of knowledge is a defensible position in an age of reason," argues lead researcher John Pickett. Yet the roots of opposition are far too complex to be addressed through appeals to scientific evidence alone; such arguments resonate with researchers but do little to engage protesters. Indeed, a short TV exchange between the two sides was largely a stalemate. For a start, the complaints of the activists exhibit a strong ideology that emphasises the "natural" and the "pure", and that intuitively fears "contamination". This amplifies perceived uncertainty, fears over environmental and health risks, and motivates exaggerated - if not outright false - claims. For example, in its own YouTube video intended to garner support for its protest, Take Back the Flour claims that the wheat contains a cow gene, something the scientists refute. The allusion is a clear effort to connect GM wheat to long-standing fears that food biotech is a "Frankenstein" technology that violates nature. Yet activists do have legitimate concerns anchored in what they view as the inadequacy of regulation to ensure choice for farmers and consumers and to be responsive to citizens, packaging their arguments in value-laden language emphasising fairness, equity and accountability. We entered one end the arm of the milky way in may 2011....As we travel along the galactic equator many new sights come into view, just like looking out of a window on a moving train....Things come closer then into FULL view then they are gone because the train keeps moving....In 1994 when this crop circle was created, the people of earth no matter who they were knew nothing of what was ahead while earth continues her journey....HOWEVER SOMETHING OR SOMEONE FROM ELSEWHERE DID KNOW WHAT WAS AHEAD! These are the signs they gave us.

news.discovery.com/space/crop-circles-eclipse-italy-120613.html Italian Crop Circle Linked to Solar Eclipse Could aliens be demonstrating their advanced knowledge of our eclipse system through spirals in wheat fields?Wed Jun 13, 2012 01:23 PM ET Content provided by Benjamin Radford, Life's Little Mysteries On May 20, 2012, the date of the rare annular solar eclipse, this spiral of 69 “spokes” in young wheat was reported in Bracciano, Forli Province, near Bertinoro, Italy, 50 miles southeast of Bologne. THE GIST * The crop circle was apparently created the evening of May 19 or early in the morning of May 20. * The best place for seeing the eclipse was in Albuquerque, N.M., at about 7 p.m. local time on May 20 -- which would be 3 a.m. in Italy the following day. * The eclipse was not visible in Bracciano or anywhere else in Italy. Researchers believe a crop circle pattern that appeared in the small town of Bracciano, Italy, a few weeks ago contained a complex diagram of solar eclipses — perhaps demonstrating that its makers had an advanced knowledge of Earthly astronomy. A woman in Bracciano was awakened May 20 by an earthquake and could not return to sleep; at dawn she noticed a spiral pattern laid out in a nearby wheat field. The crop circle drew curiosity around the world, as well as attention from so-called "cereologists" — crop circle enthusiasts — who offered various theories and opinions about the pattern's origin and meaning. One Australian crop circle researcher, Horace Drew, wrote on his website that "the new crop picture at Braccione, Italy, appeared close to the time of an annular solar eclipse" on May 20, and he offered an analysis of the pattern, explaining its "apparent scientific symbolism in terms of eclipse astronomy." He wrote that the "cycle of eclipses will begin in one polar region on Earth, whether North or South pole, then will spiral down and out across the equator, eventually spiraling back into the opposite polar region thousands of years later. Likewise, the Bracciano crop picture shows a long two-turn spiral, moving outward from a broad flattened center. Whoever designed this particular crop picture, then laid it out carefully in a rural field, seems to have possessed a great deal of technical knowledge, beyond that of an ordinary field artist" – in other words, beyond that of a hoaxer. Could aliens be demonstrating their advanced knowledge of our eclipse system through spirals in wheat fields? Possibly, but it seems more likely that the "eclipse astronomy" lies in Drew's imagination. He begins with the assumption that the pattern has a connection to the eclipse, and claims that if you diagram the pattern of eclipses over thousands of years (from one specific, arbitrary point of view), that pattern generally resembles the spiral pattern found in the Italian crop circle. He then assumes that this eclipse information must have been intentionally created by intelligences far beyond ordinary hoaxers. While it's an interesting idea, even a child can draw a spiral without mastering "a great deal of technical knowledge" about eclipses. Several other factors cast doubt on a connection between the crop circle and the eclipse. For one thing, despite claims by Drew and other researchers, the crop circle did not in fact appear "close to the time" of the eclipse – nor even on the same day. The crop circle was apparently created the evening of May 19 or early in the morning of May 20. However, the best place for seeing the eclipse was Albuquerque, N.M., at about 7 p.m. local time on May 20 — which would be 3 a.m. in Italy the following day, May 21. So the crop circle was actually created a day or more before the eclipse — not at the same time. CONTINUE READING: news.discovery.com/space/crop-circles-eclipse-italy-120613.html

I can understand their frustration with people tromping all over their property...just a shame it can't be preserved as well as his privacy Do you think they should be preserved if they are only man-made? Some people might consider them to be works of art but others would look at them as nothing more than graffiti. I've seen some graffiti that looked pretty cool though.

I think if it's someone's property..they decide. Or..we just lost another human right We don't know who creates them..for all I know someone out there with round hunk of fire wood being very ambitious..or angels having a bit of fun or aliens trying to get a message across. Until they make it known who they are..how can we tell someone what to do with his own property? Especially if they could be hoaxes. Lots of people want them to be real...of course...but we can't dictate to others. What we can do is ask to be allowed to catalog..take documentation..down to the nth level..for study..or seems to me the right thing.

I think that a lot of them are hoaxes. Some of them might be real. I think the earliest ones were definitely real but they started out as just circles, not the intricate designs they have now.
It would be nice to be able to study these all of these things but you are right about the property rights needing to be respected. the government has way too much power as it is, they certainly don't need any more. Of course, in order for the government to exercise that power if they had it they would have to start saying that the crop circles are of a mysterious origin and that certainly isn't going to happen.

In close encounters of the 3'd kind, the necks were longer and willowier than the usual pictures you see of them. And no you're not nuts..those look like alien heads. I suspect that one is a hoax. I'm sure if any self respecting alien were going to do a self portrait..they'd do better

Originally published Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 5:43 PM Crop circles appear in Eastern Washington wheat field
Crop circles have appeared in a wheat field near Grand Coulee dam.Mysterious crop circles have appeared in an Eastern Washington wheat field — not far from the nation's largest hydropower producer — but area farmers preparing for the summer's harvest find the distraction more amusing than alarming. "You can't do anything other than laugh about it," said Cindy Geib, who owns the field along with her husband, Greg. "You just kind of roll with the theory it's aliens and you're special because aliens chose your spot." Friends called the Geibs on July 24 when the pattern of flattened wheat was spotted off Highway 174, about five miles north of the town of Wilbur in Lincoln County. The field is about 10 miles south of the Grand Coulee dam, which the Bureau of Reclamation says is the largest hydropower producer in the United States. The circles resemble a four-leaf clover and remind Cindy Geib of Mickey Mouse ears. The design knocked down about an acre of their wheat. Some of it could be salvaged by combines when the harvest starts in a week or two, she said, but some will be lost. "Of course, we don't have alien insurance," she said. Crop circles have been a worldwide phenomenon for decades, and this is not the first one in Lincoln County. Similar circular patterns were left in crops in the Wilbur area in 2010 and in 2008 or 2009, Geib said. Lynne Brougher, public-affairs officer for the Grand Coulee dam, hadn't heard about the latest crop circles but said the previous one was no cause for alarm. "It seemed to be highly unusual," Brougher said. "As I recall from a couple of years ago, there was no good explanation of how they got there." Still, she added, "it wasn't a concern." The latest crop circle was first reported Tuesday by Spokane station KHQ-TV. There were no signs that anyone walked into the field. "We're trying to figure out how they got out there without breaking any of the wheat. It's hard to walk through the crunchy wheat and not knock it down," Geib said. "At the same time, it's hard to think it's aliens. It's a bizarre thing to wrap your brain around." Geib's daughter-in-law, Kelly Geib, of Wilbur, says the crop circle has given the family something to ponder and chuckle about. "The kids all like to say the aliens have come, and we're happy to indulge them," she said. seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2018818780_cropcircles01.html For KHQ TV Video, go here:www.khq.com/category/195686/video-landing-page?clipId=7560304&topVideoCatNo=187690&autoStart=true

www.ufodigest.com/article/ufo-lights-sighted-crop-circle-territory-july-26-2012 UFO Lights Sighted in Crop Circle Territory - July 26, 2012 By Mary Alice Bennett England - UFO Lights - Sighting Eyewitness testimony from R.W., an avid crop circle photographer - "I had a peculiar experience last night in the Vale of Pewsey July 26, 2012: I have nothing at all to back this up with, aside from my solemn word that it all happened as I am about to describe. I have no idea what it was that I witnessed, and I’m sure there may well be a rational explanation for it all, although I continue to be utterly perplexed by it. I could have put this onto the UFO thread, but as I was in the heart of Crop Circle Country at the time, and each incident occurred over crop fields, I thought it might sit better in here. I was returning back to my home in Winchester after watching a sun roll at Silbury Hill near Avebury, as recounted on another thread. I left Silbury Hill at about 9.10-9.15pm (BST) initially travelling east in the direction of Marlborough, but just past Overton the road had been closed for some reason, and so I turned around, and headed west for the town of Devizes. At about 9.30pm I was travelling along the road that links Avebury with Devizes. Off to my left was a great swathe of crop fields, eventually merging into hills. It was dusk by this time, not fully dark, but very grey and murky. Suddenly, over the fields to my left I saw a bright light, in the form of a ball or orb of fire. I can’t emphasise enough that the object appeared to be burning with a fierce golden light, and did not therefore appear as a plane light, or similar. It seemed more organic than that. Because the landscape I was looking into was so indistinct, it’s very hard for me to judge the distance and scale of the object, but it was very bright and appeared to be travelling roughly parallel to me. I observed it for about a minute, as I drove along the road. Unfortunately it’s quite a fast road, and I had a car behind me, and so I wasn’t able to stop, but instead kept switching my eyes from the road in front of me, to the fields to the left of me. This would have been only a few miles outside Devizes. And then the light simply vanished. It faded a little for a fraction of a second before going out, making it appear still more flame-like. Thinking it was all a little odd, but not getting too over-excited about it – I wondered if it might have been some very large Chinese lantern, for example – I continued on my way. I cut around the outskirts of Devizes, and then started heading east towards Upavon (from where one goes to Andover, the A303 and then Winchester). The Devizes to Upavon road is a lovely one to drive along in daylight, a winding country road amidst crop fields, with views to the north of the Pewsey Hills (the Alton Barnes white horse is visible from there on a clear day). That was off to my left, in the direction in which I was travelling, and the same area of land where I’d seen the burning disc. Off to my right, much closer, about half a mile or so away is another range of hills, with crop fields at their foot, next to the road I’m driving along. About mid-way between Devizes and Upavon, a bit closer to the latter than the former, and at about 9.45pm, CONTINUE READING: www.ufodigest.com/article/ufo-lights-sighted-crop-circle-territory-july-26-2012

Intricate crop circles of Buddhist symbol for infinite time and wisdom appears in crop fieldBy Amy Oliver PUBLISHED: 06:12 EST, 13 August 2012 Endless: An 'Endless Knot' crop circle has been carved into a field at Cheesefoot Head, Winchester near the A272 The 'endless knot' symbol is a complex loop of lines and circles used by Buddhists to illustrate their perceptions of reality This is the latest intricate crop circle to appear overnight in a British wheat field. The mysterious pattern resembles the ancient Tibetan Buddhist symbol of an 'endless knot' - a complex loop of lines and circles used to illustrate the eternal flow of time. The symbol has many meanings but because it has no beginning and no end many people who follow the religion say it represents the wisdom of Buddha. Amateur pilot Matthew Williams snapped the pattern near Cheesefoot Head, Hampshire. He said: 'I’m a bit of a sceptic, but this is such an intricate design, I don’t know who could make such a thing. 'To me, there’s such peace and calm emanating from this formation. The tangled mass of twists and turns release some great energy when you realise it is an unbroken line.' By walking from any one point in this huge formation, it is possible to walk all the way around, covering every inch of carved-out path and return to the start. Crop circles have been appearing in fields throughout the summer. Some believe they are signs left by aliens, but others think they are made by vandals and pranksters. +SEE MORE PICTURES & CONTINUE READING: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2187640/Intricate-crop-circles-shape-Tibetan-Buddhist-symbol-represent-perceptions-reality-carved-landscape.html#ixzz23jWtyqJW

www.ufomystic.com/2012/08/29/crop-circles-the-human-factor/mysteriousuniverse.org/2012/08/crop-circles-the-human-angle/ Crop Circles: The Human Angle Aug 28th by Nick Redfern Matthew Williams – a former special-investigator with the British Government’s Customs & Excise agency – holds the distinction of being one of the very few people in the world arrested, charged and convicted for making a Crop Circle – although the actual crime was of causing damage to the field in which the formation was made. I will be the first to admit that Matthew is a good friend of mine, and a great deal has been written about his reasons for making crop-formations that is either misleading or downright untrue. And, more importantly, the notion that people such as Matthew can be dismissed as mere hoaxers is an utter failure to understand and appreciate the philosophy and experiences of the human circle-makers. In an extensive interview I conducted with Matthew, he began: “In 1992, when I got involved in Crop Circle research, there were a lot of people who believed that Crop Circles could only be made by otherworldly forces. Admittedly, I didn’t know very much about Crop Circles back then; and hearing some of the arguments of ‘bent nodes’ and ‘blown expulsion cavities’ coupled with UFO sightings, made the whole subject seem extraordinary. Without researching the subject for myself, I was inclined to believe the so-called experts and their seemingly plausible theories about aliens making Crop Circles.” “My early research efforts involved investigating areas where Crop Circles were expected to appear. I coordinated efforts with other friends and researchers via radios, and we patrolled fields in our cars, armed with night-vision equipment. Back in those hazy days, I used to think that people who made Crop Circles were trying to confuse us and lead us away from the path of discovering deeply encoded alien messages. I was on a mission to stop man-made Crop Circles appearing.” CONTINUE READING: mysteriousuniverse.org/2012/08/crop-circles-the-human-angle/
