www.prairieghosts.com/moth.html MOTHMAN
The Enigma of Point Pleasant “Mothman”, as the strange creature came to be called, is perhaps one of the strangest creatures to ever grace the annals of weirdness in America. Even though this mysterious and unsolved case has nothing to do with ghosts, it would be remiss of me to not include it in a section of the website about the unexplained. The weird events connected to the Mothman began on November 12, 1966 near Clendenin, West Virginia. Five men were in the local cemetery that day, preparing a grave for a burial, when something that looked like a “brown human being” lifted off from some nearby trees and flew over their heads. The men were baffled. It did not appear to be a bird, but more like a man with wings. A few days later, more sightings would take place, electrifying the entire region. (Courtesy of Cathy Wilkins) Late in the evening of November 15, two young married couples had a very strange encounter as they drove past an abandoned TNT plant near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The couples spotted two large eyes that were attached to something that was "shaped like a man, but bigger, maybe six or seven feet tall. And it had big wings folded against its back". When the creature moved toward the plant door, the couples panicked and sped away. Moments later, they saw the same creature on a hillside near the road. It spread its wings and rose into the air, following with their car, which by now was traveling at over 100 miles per hour. "That bird kept right up with us," said one of the group. They told Deputy Sheriff Millard Halstead that it followed them down Highway 62 and right to the Point Pleasant city limits. And they would not be the only ones to report the creature that night. Another group of four witnesses claimed to see the “bird” three different times! Another sighting had more bizarre results. At about 10:30 on that same evening, Newell Partridge, a local building contractor who lived in Salem (about 90 miles from Point Pleasant), was watching television when the screen suddenly went dark. He stated that a weird pattern filled the screen and then he heard a loud, whining sounds from outside that raised in pitch and then ceased. “It sounded like a generator winding up” he later stated. Partridge’s dog, Bandit, began to howl out on the front porch and Newell went out to see what was going on. When he walked outside, he saw Bandit facing the hay barn, about 150 yards from the house. Puzzled, Partridge turned a flashlight in that direction and spotted two red circles that looked like eyes or “bicycle reflectors”. They moving red orbs were certainly not animal’s eyes, he believed, and the sight of them frightened him. Bandit, an experienced hunting dog and protective of his territory, shot off across the yard in pursuit of the glowing eyes. Partridge called for him to stop, but the animal paid no attention. His owner turned and went back into the house for his gun, but then was too scared to go back outside again. He slept that night with his gun propped up next to the bed. The next morning, he realized that Bandit had disappeared. The dog had still not shown up two days later when Partridge read in the newspaper about the sightings in Point Pleasant that night. One statement that he read in the newspaper chilled him to the bone. Roger Scarberry, one member of the group who spotted the strange “bird” at the TNT plant, said that as they entered the city limits of Point Pleasant, they saw the body of a large dog lying on the side of the road. A few minutes later, on the way back out of town, the dog was gone. They even stopped to look for the body, knowing they had passed it just a few minutes before. Newell Partridge immediately thought of Bandit, who was never seen again. On November 16, a press conference was held in the county courthouse and the couples from the TNT plant sighting repeated their story. Deputy Halstead, who had known the couples all of their lives, took them very seriously. “They’ve never been in any trouble,” he told investigators and had no reason to doubt their stories. Many of the reporters who were present for the weird recounting felt the same way. The news of the strange sightings spread around the world. The press dubbed the odd flying creature “Mothman”, after a character from the popular Batman television series of the day. The remote and abandoned TNT plant became the lair of the Mothman in the months ahead and it could not have picked a better place to hide in. The area was made up of several hundred acres of woods and large concrete domes where high explosives were stored during World War II. A network of tunnels honeycombed the area and made it possible for the creature to move about without being seen. In addition to the manmade labyrinth, the area was also comprised of the McClintic Wildlife Station, a heavily forested animal preserve filled with woods, artificial ponds and steep ridges and hills. Much of the property was almost inaccessible and without a doubt, Mothman could have hid for weeks or months and remained totally unseen. The only people who ever wandered there were hunters and fishermen and the local teenagers, who used the rutted dirt roads of the preserve as “lover’s lanes”. Very few homes could be found in the region, but one dwelling belonged to the Ralph Thomas family. One November 16, they spotted a “funny red light” in the sky that moved and hovered above the TNT plant. “It wasn’t an airplane”, Mrs. Marcella Bennett (a friend of the Thomas family) said, “but we couldn’t figure out what it was.” Mrs. Bennett drove to the Thomas house a few minutes later and got out of the car with her baby. Suddenly, a figure stirred near the automobile. “It seemed as though it had been lying down,” she later recalled. “It rose up slowly from the ground. A big gray thing. Bigger than a man with terrible glowing eyes.” Mrs. Bennett was so horrified that she dropped her little girl! She quickly recovered, picked up her child and ran to the house. The family locked everyone inside but hysteria gripped them as the creature shuffled onto the porch and peered into the windows. The police were summoned, but the Mothman had vanished by the time the authorities had arrived. Mrs. Bennett would not recover from the incident for months and was in fact so distraught that she sought medical attention to deal with her anxieties. She was tormented by frightening dreams and later told investigators that she believed the creature had visited her own home too. She said that she could often hear a keening sounds (like a woman screaming) near her isolated home on the edge of Point Pleasant. Many would come to believe that the sightings of Mothman, as well as UFO sightings and encounters with “men in black” in the area, were all related. For nearly a year, strange happenings continued in the area. Researchers, investigators and “monster hunters” descended on the area but none so famous as author John Keel, who has written extensively about Mothman and other unexplained anomalies. He has written for many years about UFO’s but dismisses the standard “extraterrestrial” theories of the mainstream UFO movement. For this reason, he has been a controversial figure for decades. According to Keel, man has had a long history of interaction with the supernatural. He believes that the intervention of mysterious strangers in the lives of historic personages like Thomas Jefferson and Malcolm X provides evidence of the continuing presence of the “gods of old”. The manifestation of these elder gods comes in the form of UFO’s and aliens, monsters, demons, angels and even ghosts. He has remained a colorful character to many and yet remains respected in the field for his research and fascinating writings. Keel became the major chronicler of the Mothman case and wrote that at least 100 people personally witnessed the creature between November 1966 and November 1967. According to their reports, the creature stood between five and seven feet tall, was wider than a man and shuffled on human-like legs. Its eyes were set near the top of the shoulders and had bat-like wings that glided, rather than flapped, when it flew. Strangely though, it was able to ascend straight up “like a helicopter”. Witnesses also described its murky skin as being either gray or brown and it emitted a humming sound when it flew. The Mothman was apparently incapable of speech and gave off a screeching sound. Mrs. Bennett stated that it sounded like a “woman screaming” John Keel arrived in Point Pleasant in December 1966 and immediately began collecting reports of Mothman sightings and even UFO reports from before the creature was seen. He also compiled evidence that suggested a problem with televisions and phones that began in the fall of 1966. Lights had been seen in the skies, particularly around the TNT plant, and cars that passed along the nearby road sometimes stalled without explanation. He and his fellow researchers also uncovered a number of short-lived poltergeist cases in the Ohio Valley area. Locked doors opened and closed by themselves, strange thumps were heard inside and outside of homes and often, inexplicable voices were heard. The James Lilley family, who lived just south of the TNT plant, were so bothered by the bizarre events that they finally sold their home and moved to another neighborhood. Keel was convinced that the intense period of activity was all connected. And stranger things still took place..... A reporter named Mary Hyre, who was the Point Pleasant correspondent for the Athens, Ohio newspaper the Messenger, also wrote extensively about the local sightings. In fact, after one very active weekend, she was deluged with over 500 phone calls from people who saw strange lights in the skies. One night in January 1967, she was working late in her office in the county courthouse and a man walked in the door. He was very short and had strange eyes that were covered with thick glasses. He also had long, black hair that was cut squarely “like a bowl haircut”. Hyre said that he spoke in a low, halting voice and he asked for directions to Welsh, West Virginia. She thought that he had some sort of speech impediment and for some reason, he terrified her. “He kept getting closer and closer to me, “ she said, “ and his funny eyes were staring at me almost hypnotically.” Alarmed, she summoned the newspaper’s circulation manager to her office and together, they spoke to the strange little man. She said that at one point in the discussion, she answered the telephone when it rang and she noticed the little man pick up a pen from her desk. He looked at it in amazement, “as if he had never seen a pen before.” Then, he grabbed the pen, laughed loudly and ran out of the building. Several weeks later, Hyre was crossing the street near her office and saw the same man on the street. He appeared to be startled when he realized that she was watching him, turned away quickly and ran for a large black car that suddenly came around the corner. The little man climbed in and it quickly drove away. By this time, most of the sightings had come to an end and Mothman had faded away into the strange “twilight zone” from which he had come... but the story of Point Pleasant had not yet ended. At around 5:00 in the evening on December 15, 1967, the 700-foot bridge linking Point Pleasant to Ohio suddenly collapsed while filled with rush hour traffic. Dozens of vehicles plunged into the dark waters of the Ohio River and 46 people were killed. Two of those were never found and the other 44 are buried together in the town cemetery of Gallipolis, Ohio. CONTINUE READING: www.prairieghosts.com/moth.html

That was a good find, Auntym.
Even though it was written in 2001, I didn't know of any article that put most of the known facts all together in one piece!
The only thing missing is that some of the witnesses died of "illnesses" around this same period of time. Including the reporter Mary Hyre. ?

I finally decided that writing this out and submitting it would be therapeutic to me and might hopefully help identify what it was that I saw and maybe help someone else avoid the same thing. I live in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in the city of Chicago and live about 1 ½ blocks from Oz Park. When the weather is nice, I usually go outdoors and to the park to jog and walk my dog. The night of April 7th was no different, it was mild and the cold weather had finally subsided so I decided to give the treadmill a break and go outside to jog and let the dog get some fresh air. As I came to the corner of Burling St and Webster Avenue where I cross the street to the park, my dog began acting very peculiar and acted like she didn’t want to go to the park. This is very strange as usually my dog goes absolutely nuts when we go to the park and has the time of her life running and sniffing. On this particular evening, she acted like she was mortified to cross the street and enter the park. As we crossed the street and came up to the area where the basketball courts are located and the start of the trail that goes around and through the park, my dog was practically being dragged as she resisted wanting to continue. After much effort, I finally got her to finally cooperate and begin the walk. I started walking East toward the Oz Garden, a route that is my usual when I come here to walk or to jog. As we walked toward the garden, I noticed that many of the birds you usually hear in the park were all but silent and that the only noise you could here was the usual city noise from the surrounding neighborhood. As we rounded the sidewalk to head south with the garden to my left, I heard what could only be described as the flapping of wings. I really didn’t give it a second thought as I assumed it would be some passing Canadian Geese that I’ve seen in the park recently. As we came toward the clearing where you would find the Baseball fields, something caught my eye and what I saw still scares the crap out of me. I saw a large man, probably 7 feet or taller standing on the ground. It was solid black, but what really stood out were the large, and I do mean large pair of wings that were folded behind him. These wings stood taller than the man by at least a foot and a half and jutted out of his back. I could not see it’s face as it had its face turned away from me and probably didn’t notice me at first. It finally turned and noticed me and I saw the bright, ruby red eyes that appeared to glow from within. It was at this time that it turned and faced me and I got to see what it really looked like. It was about 7 feet tall, and instead of clothes, it looked like a giant half man, half bird kind of thing. It reminded me of the character Birdperson from the show Rick and Morty, only a LOT scarier! This thing stared at me for about 15 seconds, which felt like an eternity and then in a loud whoosh it unfurled its wings and screeched really loud, and jetted into the air. These wings looked almost bat-like and were at least 10 feet across from tip to tip. I felt like this thing could see right through me, read me, it knew what I was thinking, like it could stare right into my very soul. It was the most terrified I have ever been in my life. It rose into the air like a bullet and I heard it screech once more before losing it from my view as it rose above the trees and possibly the buildings. It was at that time that I realized that I had yet to scream or react in any way. I was just numb, numb from my head to my toes. I finished my walk early and walked home, all the while trying to see if I could see it again once I got to the street. It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced and it lead me to look up giant mutant birds online and eventually came to sights talking about similar sightings that other people have had and eventually to where I could post and report my own sighting. I don’t want you to think that I am crazy, I’m just a normal person who had a weird and strange experience. I do not abuse drugs or take any kind of hallucinogens or anything like that. I know what I saw was real and that I saw it in Oz Park, in Chicago, Illinois. I don’t want publicity at all, I just want to tell my story and to warn others who might jog or walk the trails of Oz Park. I never felt like I was in any real kind of danger, if I did not provoke it. But, I felt that this creature could have ripped me limb for limb if I had approached it or threatened it in any way. Maybe it was passing through like the Canadian Geese do when they are migrating. Either way, I hope that we never get to meet face to face again. Thank you

The experience that my mom and I had was terrifying and I'm getting goosebumps just thinking of the possibility that what we saw was actually real. We've had a lot of experiences with the paranomal, but this one takes the cake. I've since moved away from York, but we're planning to move back to Pennsylvania, which led me to research hauntings and cryptid sightings in the area. When I googled Conewago Phantom, the pictures alone almost made my stomach drop, but when I read your descriptions - down to the almost humanoid crying... I'm still kind of in shock. The Conewago Phantom Screams It's hard to pinpoint an exact date, but I believe it was summertime in 2010. There were two separate instances that neither of us had thought were tied together. We were living in Mt. Wolf at the time, right by the Codorus Furnace (which, there's a whole other story about the woman in white for another time?). Behind our house were woods and it wasn't uncommon for us to hear foxes or owls or any other animal making noise out there. But there was one night that my mom had called me outside to listen to, what she described as, a sad, lonely wailing? We researched endlessly about what could have possibly made that sound, but we always fell short. Just as you described it, it would fade in and out, and eventually lingered away. (I'm getting chills, whoops.) I hadn't thought much on it considering that the actual sighting was the forefront of my memories there, but reading that description, it makes so much sense. It was a little bit after this, when my mom and I were coming home from running errands, when we slowed to a stop right around here (below). It was nighttime and we always liked to watch for deer on the horizon of the fields. I was in the passenger seat, trying to see out my mom's window, and that's when I saw this black form by the back window. I don't even remember what I said or did to get her to look back, but she did. She then turned forward, slammed on the gas, and wouldn't even talk to me about it until we got home and in the house. She said that when she turned to look at it, it "stood up" and wing-like appendages spanned out from it's back. We both agreed it was massive. I'd say 9-10 ft. I don't recall seeing any red eyes, but it all happened so fast. Personally, I'm more apt to be spooked out by the paranormal, whereas my mom is more curious. But whatever this thing was was enough to terrify her. She wanted to go back out to investigate, but I was too afraid to go and she didn't want to go alone. The next day when we returned in the daylight to see if maybe there was a tree or mailbox or... anything that could've been what we saw, but... there wasn't. Up until now, I jokingly referred to it as my 'Mothman experience', despite the uneasy undertones. I had no idea this... creature even existed. I've told the story to so many, but I think it's hard for them to really grasp what actually happened. To them, I'm sure it just sounds like a spooky ghost story. I've been dying to find an actual explanation to this and I think I finally did. My grandmother had a similar experience, but she was living in Edgewood, Maryland at the time. She described it exactly the same though - a massive, black, winged figure lingering near her car. She told us that she thought it was a fallen angel. It's all been very surreal. I didn't think I would ever get answers to what we saw, and it's haunted me to this day. I'm still unsure whether or not this discovery has eased my mind or frightened me even more, but I'd love to talk with you some time. All the best, Sky www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2017/05/tall-winged-being-near-codorus-furnace.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+%28Phantoms+and+Monsters%29

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2017/05/breaking-pair-of-large-bat-like.html Sunday, May 21, 2017 Pair of Large Bat-Like Humanoids - Downtown Chicago Posted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStricklerChicago, IL - 2017-05-19: Was out at the breakwater with my best friend and her boyfriend. We were waiting for my boyfriend to finish helping his dad tie their boat to the dock after helping bring the boat to the marina for the Summer. We were standing on the shore by some picnic tables waiting on James to meet us there. We were talking when we heard this loud screech, it sounded completely out of this world and after a couple of seconds, we heard another one, only louder and higher pitch than the first one. We looked around thinking we had heard an animal in distress and if it needed help. That's when we saw this large bat fly into our view. It was black and came from the direction of the bridge that holds up the Lake Shore Drive. It flew low and then shot up into the air as it came over the water. We noticed one of the coast guard helicopters was flying over the water at about the same time, but we're not sure if it saw this thing as it kept on flying toward the Adler Planetarium. This thing flew a large circle and cried out again and almost instantly it was joined by another large bat. These things were big and stood out against the sky. They flew figure eights around each other. It looked like they were dancing in a strange sort of way. It was actually quite beautiful, considering how freaking strange it was. About that time, my boyfriend walked up on us and scared the living bejezzuz out of us. Both myself and my friend screamed and I think those large bats heard us. Because they screeched back at each other and both flew down toward the water, it looked like they were going to slam into the water and at the last second, they pulled up and flew toward and I'm assuming under the bridge and out of sight. we ran toward the railing, to look down the river and saw nothing else. This entire encounter lasted about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. It was scary, only because we didn't know what the Hell they were, but it looked like they were interested in each other and not us. We can't be the only other ones to see it as the riverwalk and the pier were full of people and joggers. Are these things just giant bats or are they gargoyles or just people in those wing-suit thingies? - MUFON UPDATE: This is the 7th sighting of a unknown flying entity in the Chicago metro area. This the first report of multiple beings. An image of the area map is posted below. www.coasttocoastam.com/article/chicago-mothman-flap-continues/#.WSdD3eNeLeI.twitter Chicago 'Mothman' Flap ContinuesMay 25, 2017 A mysterious winged-creature, which some have compared to Mothman, seemingly continues to lurk in the Chicago area as several more sightings have been reported in recent weeks. The strange saga began last month when three separate people claimed to have seen the creature over the course of the same evening. Since that time, more witnesses have come forward with their own stories of encountering the flying enigma. Dutifully chronicled by Fortean researcher Lon Strickler, the most recent sighting occurred last weekend when a woman and her friends first heard an unsettling, high-pitched screech. When they looked up, the group spotted an enormous bat-like creature circling an adjacent marina and were stunned when it was joined by a second flying oddity of a similar size and shape. Although the witness conceded that the creature could be a massive bat, she indicated some reluctance to believe that theory as she likened the enigmatic animal to a gargoyle or a human in a wing suit, which connects to the humanoid characteristics that other witnesses have ascribed to it. Another sighting of the creature happened two weeks earlier and featured a law enforcement officer observing the anomaly while out walking with his young son. According to the witness, the anomaly "had a distinct human figure about 6 feet in height" and sported enormous wings that appeared to be 8 to 10 feet across. The stunned father and son watched the 'entity' fly over a nearby tennis court before disappeared behind a fieldhouse. A similar sighting by another father and son duo took place a few days prior to that incident and essentially described the same creature that others have been seeing, although this encounter also featured an unsettling sound akin to the brakes of a train. All told, the number of sightings of the creature in the Chicago area have now reached an astounding seven over the last month or so. Residents of the Windy City or curious readers looking for more information on the cases can check out Strickler's Phantoms and Monsters website as well as his excellent interactive map of sightings. That's the rumor. In the original encounter I believe a bridge collapsed. Might have just been coincidence though.

Posted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStricklerThis most recent report confirms the sighting of 2017-05-19 in downtown Chicago. This information was reported to Manuel Navarette at UFO Clearinghouse: *This is the second such sighting in a week and also in the same general area. An interview with the witnesses is being arranged and all information will be posted on the site as soon as it is available.* Chicago, IL - 5/19/2017 - approx. 2100 hours: I was out with my daughter and mother celebrating my daughter’s recent graduation and after dinner and some light shopping, we decided to go out and check out the newly opened Chicago river walk that had just opened after construction. We accessed the river walk via the entrance on Michigan avenue and walked east toward the lake, looking at the sights and enjoying the beautiful view. As we passed under the Columbus Drive bridge, we heard this strange sound and my daughter said “Look at that!” As we looked up, we saw a large winged “person” flying just above the water and then pulling up and going OVER the bridge! It looked like a huge owl or even a bat, but completely black with the exception of the two large eyes that appeared red. I’m not sure if it was the actual color of its eyes or just the light reflecting off of them, either way it looked very spooky. We watched it go over the bridge and then continue flying right above the water and out of sight. It didn’t seem to care of anyone else saw it, it just let flying above the water until it was out of sight. My daughter and me tried to get pictures of it, but by the time we took pictures. All we got were blurry images of mostly black. My daughter did sketch what she saw and I have included it in this email. We have never seen anything like this before, it never flapped its wings while we were in sight. At first glance, it looked like a person in a wing suit, but I don’t think anyone would be suicidal enough to go for a stunt like that along the waterfront. I have gone skydiving before and have seen demonstrations of wingsuits in the past. This lead me to rule out that this would be a person in one of those suits or anything similar as it would be a sure fire recipe for disaster. This thing also had wings that did bit seem like the wings on a bat as the seemed to form one big wing from the back to the bottom of the legs and seemed more of a membrane than feathered wings like an owl. There was no sound at all, just an audible whoosh as it flew over. It was up and over the bridge in a matter of seconds and then it was gone. We were a bit shaken up after this thing flew away, she didn’t know what it was that we had seen. NOTE: I am being told that there may be photos out there. Manuel is attempting to get more interviews. This is the 8th sighting of an unknown flying entity in the Chicago metro area. An image of the area map is posted below. Ive heard these stories for years and still I do not know what to think.. a book from my library many years ago had all kinds of stories in it. One I remember more than any other. A man told this to a magazine back in the twenties. He had fought in world war one. He was in a trench and his troops was getting bombared. This thing flew over them witch looked like a man with wings. He told it was creepy, reminded him of a huge moth human size. He said two other men witnessed it with him. They never told anyone till years later, the other men could never be found.. I figured maybe they did not survive the war.. What ever it is . seems to of started long before West Virginia.. Lois

Hi Posey!
Was there anything "doom" oriented that happened after your experience with Mr. G.?
Do you have any "theories" on why he is around at times?
Thank you!
So good to "see" You! jc

I think "Chicago" is a little late to be worried about the environment.

mysteriousuniverse.org/2017/06/chicagos-current-mothman-flap-a-warning-says-expert/ Chicago’s Current Mothman Flap “A Warning,” Says Expert June 7, 2017 by MJ Banias / mysteriousuniverse.org/author/mjbanias/What goes through a person’s mind when they come face to face with a monster? Over the last two months, a handful of Chicago locals are now able to answer that question. On April 7th, a witness came forward to report the sighting of a large seven foot tall bat-like humanoid in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. Sparking a reaction, many witnesses have begun to come forward with their own experiences. Approximately fifteen sightings of a ‘flying humanoid’ have been reported in the Chicago area. The winged being, according to some witnesses, bears a resemblance to the famous Mothman of Point Pleasant, while others have described it as more bat-like in appearance. One researcher argues that it is probably just a large owl. While testimony concerning the appearance of this creature varies, one recurring theme seems to be consistent; the feeling of dread and doom that comes over the witnesses, and the sense that tragedy lies in its wake. Enter Lon Strickler, an expert in the field of cryptids and founder of the popular website, Phantoms and Monsters. He has received multiple reports concerning the recent rash of sightings in Chicago and has been thoroughly investigating each one. In an interview with Mysterious Universe, Strickler pointed to two sightings on his website that he states are the most compelling. The most recent incident, on June 3rd, occurred in the Lincoln Park area around 10:00 PM local time. The couple, who wishes to remain anonymous, just finished a late dinner and were out for a walk when they saw the strange being. According to the report, "[it was] a 7-8 ft solid black humanoid with wide membrane wings, that resembled those of a huge bat. The wingspan was at least 12 ft. The head was prominent, and thinner than a human head. The back end of the body tapered to a point. No legs were noticed, but could have been tucked up under the body. The figure was gliding quickly along the length of the street heading east, then suddenly ascended into the night sky. Neither heard any sound. Both witnesses told [Strickler] that they felt a sense of foreboding and were still terrified almost an hour after the encounter." Maybe it is a big giant vampire bat. It sounds like a bat to me from the way they talk about it. Bats don't look like they have legs. If it was a moffman why wouldn't it have legs?

I have nightmares about this and thought it might help to tell someone. I just wanted someone to know that this thing is real and I saw it. I have lived close to the Great Lakes forever and have never seen anything like this before. This took place on the west end of Lake Ontario. In 2014 in August, while traveling home on a four-lane divided highway at about ten-thirty at night I caught sight of something that has yet to be forgotten. My car was traveling east along what we refer to as 'the parkway.' About a mile and a half from the end of this particular road which ends abruptly with cautionary 'stop' signs and then empties onto a smaller less traveled road. The two lanes that are eastbound in this area went down into a dip and the two westbound lanes, at this point, were higher, as was the median. There was no moon that night in the eastern sky and no lights in this area to distract attention from the dark. To the left, there were trees both off the left-hand side of the highway and in the median. On the right is an old cemetery (Oakland Rural Cemetery) that had a chain link fence dividing it away from the four lane highway. My bright lights were on as this area is pitch black under moonless conditions. The windows were open about two inches as it was quite warm that night and I had a cigarette lit. As I approached the area where the cemetery was coming up on my right I was slowing down as there is a curve and then the signs warning that the parkway is coming to an end in one thousand feet. At this time some sort of movement caught my eyes at the top of my windshield coming from the trees to the left in the median. At first, I thought it was a giant hawk or an eagle. I could hear what sounded like the flapping of huge wings. I knew that whatever it was, was very big. Then it swooped down from the top of the trees in the median toward the cemetery to my right. It was low enough for my headlights to catch its underside in the light. It had short hairs like that of a deer and it shone gray in the headlights although I think the color of it was very dark gray or black. The wings were like that of a giant bat. It was huge and scared me enough to hit the brakes for fear of hitting it. It landed on the other side of the fence on a small path that was used for people to drive through the cemetery. When it first landed I could see its back only and knew that it wasn't a bird or a bat. I could see some of the headstones in the cemetery and also the chain link fence. It was taller than both the gravestones and the fence. I was close to being stopped at this time and got a good look. It turned around and it was some kind of a human-looking creature that appeared to be about six or even seven feet tall, black or very dark gray and its eyes were the thing I won't forget. They reflected a piercing reddish orange and looked like they were on fire. The eyes were hard to look away from. Almost like they mesmerized you. What finally made me move was when it flapped those wings while it was standing there. They appeared to be about twelve to fourteen feet across and they weren't even opened fully. I could not make out a mouth or a nose as the intensity of the eyes detracted from that, but I do remember seeing the musculature, it had no arms or hands and I saw a rib cage as the fur on this thing still shone in the side sweep of my headlights as I took off. The scariest part was having to drive by it as I left. I had stopped just before the spot where it stood off to my right. I don't go that way anymore in the daytime or at night. It is a very lonely stretch of road for a four-lane highway and I often wonder if others have seen it and know better than to drive that road at night. Thank you for letting me get that off my chest." NOTE: The location is in Youngstown, NY in Niagara County, along the Niagara Scenic Parkway...approximately 2 miles east of Old Fort Niagara. The link goes to a July 2011 Google Maps view...the chain link fence was added since then. I'm not sure if there have been similar sightings previously or since...though paranormal activity is no stranger to the area. Posted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStricklerJogger Encounters 'Chicago Phantom' Near the Navy Pier The following information was provided to Manuel Navarette at UFO Clearinghouse: “I was out for a late jog on Saturday evening about 7 o’clock PM (June 17th) and was taking my usual route along the lakefront jogging trail headed toward the Navy Pier. As I passed Ohio Street Beach and headed toward the Pier, I saw what looked like a giant bat fly over from what looked like under the bridge that holds up North Lakeshore Drive. It flew parallel to East Grand Avenue and then up and over the trees toward the water treatment plant. The whole incident only lasted a few seconds and getting any exact details was hard due to the low light. I can make an educated guess and say that it looked like it was the height of an average man at about 6 foot tall, but I also was maybe 15-20 feet away from it when I saw it. It looked like a great big bat, solid black but it stood out against the building and had a wingspan that must have been at least 7-8 feet from tip to tip. It was silent as far as I could tell but there was a lot of city noise in that area with traffic and what not. I know I was not the only one who saw it as about 6-7 others noticed it and I heard more than one person say “look at that!” As it flew, you could tell it was flapping it’s large wings gaining speed and altitude till it cleared the trees and headed off toward the water treatment plant. When I reached the point where I could look out toward the plant, it was gone. I checked my watch at that time and note the time at 7:08 pm and the weather was cloudy. We had storms pass through the area earlier today and it looked like more were on the way. There was visible lightning over the lake at the time that this incident occurred. I went home after my jog was completed and looked up sightings of giant bats in the city and was shocked by how many there were recently. That is how I got the info on where to report this to you.“ www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2017/06/jogger-encounters-chicago-phantom-near.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+%28Phantoms+and+Monsters%29

No one has ever killed one of these entities. I believe them to be nature spirits or they or natural to this planet but live onits other levels. The problem is what is done on one level has effectivity on all levels. Maybe because of it's vibratory rate if they die here on our levew their body returns to their home level.

I've gotta say poseygilbert, you seem to have the most out there, and numerous, experiences out of the bunch. Haven't read all of your posts, but the ones I have read are just amazing. Crazy part is, it is so far out there you couldn't make this sh** up if you wanted to! Hi Patsbox7. U was born and raised in The Bronx NYC. This was in the Fort Apatche area or better known as the South Bronx area which were known to be sacred native American burial grounds. My family blood lines are Cherokee, German, African, and Afro American. Both of my parents are from the mountains of West Virginia not too far from the Ohio River. Maybe that has something to do with it. I only know that strangness is and has always been large part of my family's life.

Another good point, in my opinion, Jcurio. Certain minerals under stress are capable of causing plasma, electrical charges, and the obstruction of gravity. Take, for instance, the case of Val Johnson, the cop whose squad car was hit by some unknown force. It left some serious damage to his car, and he blacked out for around 30 mins or so. Now, we can say it was a UFO, aliens, demons, whatever, and really, without any tangible proof, who is to say, ya know? But a very plausible explanation is that a plasma ball hit his car, busting the windshield, bending his antenna and knocking him unconscious. There are known fault lines in the area, and this experiment can be duplicated in a lab setting. They are also called earthquake lights, and happen when stress, in the form of friction, causes a spark or plasma, much like the spark from a flint lighter, only a million times more powerful. A 1/4 inch flint can throw a spark out to 2 inches from the lighter. Imagine what a 100 mile fault line (flint) could do as it generates a ball of plasma! Well, you may have hit the nail on the head when you wonder about the composition of the bridge. When that thing starts to bend and buckle, the force must be unimaginable, and it releases so much energy that, IMO, some type of portal opening could easily be triggered. In that vein, if aliens had a way to release or use the energy pent up in rocks, it could be a viable source of power. On the other hand, they might just be interested in rocks because, well, they are rocks!!! I mean, human scientists love moon rocks because they are rocks, so that may also be true to an alien civilization. Pet rocks anyone? And so it goes. Exellent point Watusimba but do not over look the presence of running water be it above or below ground. My encounters with Gonzwell started when my family moved to Brook Avenue so named for the brook that it had been built over it. NYC for the most part is not only built between two rivers but has a lot of under ground flowing water. It has many fault lines crossing not forgetting the Hudson River which is a fault line which like running water produuces EMF, and or dimensional vortex or doorways.

emf.mercola.com/****** About EMF ...... and think about the amount of water in our bodies too ********* There is a lot of water around where I live now. My "experiences" have not increased. BUT there seems to be "better communication" between myself and my "experiences". It's like the intensity has gone up a notch (but not made me more emotional). I also sense a difference since I put up a very expensive fence around my back yard last fall. More than emotional sense of safety; or a barrier. I will have to check its exact composition. It is grounded by several posts (of course) but we were mainly concerned about the strength of my 90-something pound Alaskan Husky pushing his paws against it. 😊

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2017/06/terrifying-encounter-on-seneca-trail.htmlTuesday, June 13, 2017 Terrifying Encounter on the Seneca Trail Posted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStricklerI recently received the following account: My daughter (whom was 3 years old at the time) & I were heading home after an evening of visiting family in Davis, WV. The ride home entailed that we travel through a desolate stretch of US 219 (Seneca Trail) just north of the nearby town of Thomas, WV. I was traveling along this route just as I had hundreds of times prior, listening to my daughter sing along with the radio, when directly in front of us (at a distance of roughly 60-70 yards) & in line with the tree tops I noticed movement. I had to slow my vehicle slightly & allow my eyes to adjust on the object, as it was barely illuminated by the upper arc of my vehicle's high-beams. Upon doing this I could tell that it was flying directly towards us at a brisk pace. In a matter of only a few seconds it had closed the distance between ourselves & it to 30-40 yards, and the first thing I could clearly see was the unmistakable fluttering of the beings giant wings. It flapped them a few times in order to halt it's movement, then landed directly in front of us (I would estimate that it was only 20 yards away at this point), as if it was intent on impeding our progress. At this point I was in shock at what was standing before us. The being was 7-8 feet tall (head to toe), with it's folded wings towering another 2-3 feet above it's head. It was humanoid, with a stature that I can only liken to that of a bodybuilder, and void of any hair on it's head. The skin was an ashen gray, and covering it (head, torso, arms) was a tribal-like tattoo that was black in color. It's eyes were completely black. At this point my daughter has taken notice of it & is completely hysterical. I had what seemed to be a million thoughts rushing through my mind, ranging from attempting to process what I am witnessing to trying to calm my daughter & plan how we can immediately vacate the area. All the while this being is silently standing in front of our vehicle, just staring at us. This encompassed what felt like an eternity but in reality was merely 10-15 seconds. Suddenly the being opened it's mouth, then a few seconds later emitted a high frequency shriek/scream. Upon screaming it also extended it's wings from behind it's back, which I noticed to be covered in black/leathery skin (much like the wings of a bat) & tattered along the lower edges. It then flapped them a few times, propelling itself aloft to a height of a few feet, then immediately flapped them in quick succession & disappeared upward & over our vehicle. I immediately accelerated my vehicle & left the area behind us as quickly as possible. Fortunately we encountered nothing further from the being. 'Chicago Phantom': New Witnesses Confirm Sighting at Adler Planetarium Posted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStricklerI received the following report on Sunday, July 2nd at 3:00 PM ET: Good afternoon, I wanted to write in and report a sighting that happened to me and my two friends a few weeks ago along the lake shore of Chicago. We decided to report this after reading your blog about a similar sighting that happened the same night of ours. The events that I'm writing about happened on Friday June 23rd of 2017 at approximately 10 p.m. I was with a group of friends at the Adler Planetarium just hanging out and having fun down by the concession area. We usually hang out at the lake side because it's fun and you get to meet a lot of girls. This particular night we were hanging out at our usual table near the taco stand when we saw what had to be the biggest bat we have ever seen. This bat must have been at least 7 ft tall if he was standing up but again, my perception might be skewed because it was dark and this thing was about 20 feet up in the air. All three of us were like 'what the f*** is that!' We all saw it about the same time as it flew over and continued toward the area of Soldier Field. It did this for maybe 20 yards or so, then abruptly changed directions and headed toward the lake and flew out over the lake and out of sight. This thing made no noise and was easily seen by myself and at least a few other people. We were so preoccupied with looking at this flying thing that none of us thought about grabbing our phones and taking pictures. Which I regret because I could have posted this on YouTube or Snapchat and made a million bucks. My friend sent me an e-mail with a link about a similar sighting in the same general area on the same night we had ours. That is why I am writing to report our sighting that we had that night. I am more than willing to talk about the sighting as long as my name is not used and my friends who were with me that night are too. Thank you for taking my report and not thinking I am crazy because of what we saw. The one thing that does not fit in with the similar sighting that I saw on your site is there was no feeling of dread or despair, but an overwhelming urge to keep a looking at the creature. But that could have also been morbid curiosity. TA NOTE: As the witness stated, this is a confirmation of a previous sighting at the same location and at the same time. Any additional information from the witness will be updated here. www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2017/07/chicago-phantom-new-witnesses-confirm.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+%28Phantoms+and+Monsters%29

"I recently received an email from a witness in Chicago, who stated that they wished to talk to me about a sighting he had on Friday June 30th at approximately 10:30 PM. The witness works security at a bar named 'The Owl' located in the 2500 block of N. Milwaukee Ave in Logan Square," said Strickler. "The witness states that he was outside the location, leaning against the wall while smoking a cigarette. He was alone at the time, except a few other people walking along the street. He noticed a large 'bat-like' creature flying above the street lights (approx. 60-70 ft away) over the lot across the street (in the photo below, you can see a building, which has been razed since). As the witness focused on the flying anomaly, he noticed that it was actually a bat-like humanoid. The body was 5 to 5 1/2 ft. in length and grayish in color (it was well-illuminated by the street lights). The head was human-like, but was much thinner and had a pointed crest extending from the back of it's head (similar to a pterosaur, but shorter). The head was turned away from the witness, so he could not see the eyes or face. The body tapered towards the back and it looked like there were short legs or appendages tucked underneath it, followed by a short rounded extension or tail. The wings had a full span of approximately 8-10 ft. and were attached along the body. The wings were a bat-like membrane, but heavy like that of a pterosaur. The witness noticed that the being flapped its wings to gain speed and height, then would glide. There was no sound. It was moving swiftly above the street lights across N. Milwaukee Ave., then burst upwards into the clouds. He was not sure if there were other witnesses, since the being flew by quickly." We've replaced the photograph of the area from Phantoms and Monsters with our own captured Google street view, as it is a more recent picture and we feel it better captures the witness's view. The witness claims to have left his phone inside of the bar to charge, and that he is "very upset he didn't have it because he would have had time to get a possible photo." He also said that he did not feel any fear or foreboding, but that he was startled by the sighting. "The witness was very convincing, forthright and did not embellish during his account," said Strickler. This brings the total number of sightings so far this year to fifteen. All of the sightings have taken place in the lakefront area within a few miles of Lake Michigan. The sightings generally take place in the evening or at night, often in or near a park, and witnesses consistently describe a large, bat-like creature with humanoid features. So far no pictures or video have been forthcoming. To report a sighting, contact Lon Strickler at lonstrickler@phantomsandmonsters.com or call him directly at 410-241-5974; or fill out UFO Clearinghouse's contact form. I could not make out the head on it. My husband says it may of been a huge owl. And I hope it was Auntym Chicago is just too close to me. . this is giving me the creeps . I won't want to go out any more. It made no noise and the wings did not move. Just stretched out to make it cover one side of the drive to the other side. Why doesn't someone get a photo of it or a video?
