IRISH JOKE OF THE DAY
A Utah Mormon was seated next to an Irish Catholic on a flight back to the U.S. from Dublin. After the plane was airborne drink orders were taken by the flight attendant The Irishman asked for a whiskey and a glass of Guinness, which were promptly brought and placed before him. The flight attendant then asked the Mormon if he would like a drink. He replied in disgust, "I'd rather be savagely raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips." The Irishman then handed his drinks back to the attendant and said, "Me too, I didn't know we had a choice."

ufodigest.com/article/leprechaun-0317IF YOU MISSED PART 1: ufodigest.com/article/leprechaun-0316 SOME VERY GOOD REASONS NOT TO GRAB A LEPRECHAUN ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY - PART IIBy Brad Steiger March 17, 2014 According to Salter, one of the residents of St. Fillans came running, shouting that they couldn’t move the rock or they would kill the fairies. At first Salter thought the man was joking. Then came the series of angry telephone calls. Salter attended a meeting of the community council where he learned that the council was considering lodging a complaint with the planning authority, which was likely “to be the kiss of death for a housing development in a national park.” Although the Planning Inspectorate has no specific guidelines on how to deal with fairies, a spokesman told Salter that “Planning guidance states that local customs and beliefs must be taken into account when a developer applies for planning permission.” Salter was forced to redesign the new estate so that the wee people’s rock would be in the center of a small park nicely situated within the new community. In the Scandinavian countries, counterparts of the Leprechauns are known as the Hidden Folk--and you don’t mess with them, either. In 1962, the new owners of a herring-processing plant in Iceland decided to enlarge their work area. According to Icelandic tradition, landowners must not fail to reserve small plots of their property for the Hidden Folk. In an effort to afford serious repercussions, a number of the rural residents earnestly pointed out to the new owners that the extension of the plant that they planned would encroach upon the plot of ground that the original owners had set aside for the little people who lived under the ground. The businessmen didn’t harbor those old folk superstitions, and they employed a topnotch, highly qualified construction crew who possessed modern, unbreakable drill bits and plenty of explosives to proceed with the expansion. But the bits of the “unbreakable” drills began to shatter, one after another. An elderly farmer came forward to repeat the warning that the crew was trespassing on land that belonged to the Hidden Folk. At first the workmen laughed at the old man and marveled that such primitive superstitions could still exist in modern Iceland. But the drill bits kept breaking. Finally, the manager of the plant, although professing disbelief in such superstitions, agreed to the old farmer’s recommendation that he consult a local seer to establish contact with the Hidden Folk and attempt to make peace with them. After going into a brief trance-state, the seer informed the manager that there was one particularly powerful member of the Hidden Folk who had selected this plot as his special dwelling place. He was not an unreasonable being, however. If the processing plant really need the plot for its expansion, he would agree to find another place to live. The Hidden One asked only for five days without any drilling, so that he could make his arrangements to move. The manager felt a bit strange bargaining with a being that was invisible, but he looked over at the pile of broken drill bits and told the seer that the Hidden One had a deal. Work on the site would be shut down for five days to give him a chance to move. After five days had passed and the workmen resumed drilling, the work proceeded smoothly and efficiently until the addition to the plant was completed. There were no more shattered bits on the unbreakable drill. In the Boston Herald, December 25, 2005, Ric Bourie wrote that highway engineers and construction crews in Iceland still regard the Hidden Folk, very seriously: “Mischief befalls Icelandic road builders who can’t recognize good elf domain, including breakdowns of heavy equipment and even worker mishaps and injuries. It is said to have happened on more than one job site, enough to take the mythology seriously. Consequently, road planners here consult with an elf expert before routing a road or highway through rock piles that may be elf habitat.” CONTINUE READING: ufodigest.com/article/leprechaun-0317

Dear Abby posted this from one of her Irish readers. I think it's a good prayer for any occasion. Take time to work, It is the price of success, Take time to think, It is the source of power. Take time to play, It is the secret of perpetual youth. Take time to read, It is the foundation of wisdom. Take time to be friendly, It is the road to happiness. Take time to love and be loved, It is the privilege of the gods. Take time to share, Life is too short to be selfish. Take time to laugh, Laughter is the music of the soul.

Each year when I enjoy my corn beef and cabbage I think about my friend dancing her Irish jig around her Mothers grave and have to smile knowing this story has a good ending and came from a place of love. I would like to dedicate this article to my friend Karen. Find her story below: Happy St Patrick's Day Sometimes knowing the people I do in my line of interests brings together situations that I could never imagine. This is one of those scenarios I have a long time friend who is a doctor in Canada. She is a bright happy full of life woman who is always interesting to talk to and fun to be around. I think highly of her and know her to be a hard working trustful person of strong character. She is unusual as she is not only a person of science but walks a path of strong spiritual beliefs and has an open mind to all things unknown. She has had events that are unexplainable in her own life and keeps an open mind when it comes to the world of the paranormal. Last March I called my friend. She had moved and I had not spoken to her for a while and wanted to catch up on what was going on in her life and share what was happening in mine. We were at the end of our conversation when she said “ Oh let me tell you about the ghost in my new condo.” She was so matter of fact at first I thought she was joking. She bought a new condo during Christmas time that just so happened to be about a two-block walk from the cemetery where her mother was buried. She would often walk over and place flowers or items that reminded her of her mom on her mother’s grave. She told me that shortly after moving into her new condo she started to see a fleeting image of a man in her home. This shadow type image of a man would appear when she was busy doing something in her kitchen or sitting reading or watching TV. She would catch a glimpse of a tall thin man dressed in black cross a doorway or standing by her kitchen window. As she told me about this I felt uneasy and nervous however my friend was calm and matter of fact about seeing this image of a man that she talked as if it were a natural everyday occurrence. I asked her if she could have someone come in and cleanse her new home as the image could have been attached to the previous owners. I knew not to dismiss her sighting, as I know her well enough to know she would not mention it unless it was happening- often. She told me she would think about it and changed the subject to other things as we ended our call. That phone call did not sit well with me. I could not stop thinking about her in that new condo with some ‘thing’ in there with her. I waited about ten days and called her again. I did not waste any time in small talk and got right back to the ghost in her house. She told me that he was still there and that he now comes to her bedside at night and whispers her name in her ear. She could see his image which was a young man dark haired with a heavy Irish accent. I immediately started to panic. I wanted her to have someone come stay with her and to bring in people who could remove this spirit from her home. I had an extremely uneasy feel about the entire thing and really felt pushed to get her to take action to remove this spirit from her new home and life. She told me she thinks she may have picked him up on one of her visits to the cemetery where her mother is buried. She said she realized it started after her last visit to place flowers at her mom’s grave. The more we discussed this the more I sensed that my friend was far more concerned about this happening then she was letting on. She promised me she would not try to have a friend stay with her until this issue of the uninvited ghost was resolved. She also was going to try to contact a professional ghost hunter. My friend was able to get her sister to come and stay with her for a while which added credence to this story as she too saw the ghost and also described him as a young man with dark hair dressed in black. She too heard his whispers and she too reported an Irish accent. I wanted my friend to move out of the condo until this mans spirit could be removed from the house as his visits were becoming more frequent and his vision and words clearer as the days went by. I was terrified his energy was increasing and truly nervous for my friend’s safety. Both my friend and her sister were cautious but truly brave and stayed their ground unwilling to be chased from her new home. They were fearful of the ghost but not as much as I was. There seemed to be calmness about them concerning this haunting that I could not understand. The holiday was first celebrated in 18th- and 19th-century Ireland as a small religious celebration in honor of an important figure in Irish history. Most people observed by going to church. St. Patrick was a real person. He lived sometime in the fifth century A.D. and was British, not Irish. He ended up in Ireland because he was kidnapped and sold into slavery. After seven years of slavery, he escaped back to Britain, but once free, he "felt the call of God to return to Ireland and was a missionary there for the rest of his life," says Philip Freeman, professor of classics at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and author of The World of St. Patrick. Sometime after his death, thought to be on March 17, he was named the patron saint of Ireland for bringing Christianity to the previously pagan region. So how did the holiday make its way to America and turn into a party? paranormal.about.com/od/othercreatures/a/little-people.htm The Elusive Little PeopleAmazingly, there are eyewitnesses who claim they are very real!By Stephen Wagner / www.thoughtco.com/stephen-wagner-2593026March 17, 2015 OF ALL PARANORMAL PHENOMENA, the existence of "little people" – whether they be fairies, elves or leprechauns – is among beliefs that receive little serious attention. These myths are ancient and reside deep within the folklore of many cultures. But no one today really believes in these tiny, magical beings... ... Or do they? K.T. relates this story of her face-to-face encounter: In October, 2003, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, I was out playing on our patio with my 2½-year-old son when he stopped suddenly and asked me: who was the little man sitting on our stone wall? I looked where he was pointing and saw nothing... but the area looked different somehow (shimmery?). Later, in January 2004, we were again outside playing, this time with my husband, when the most beautiful snow began to fall. It was just coming on to dusk and I said I wanted to take a quick walk in the woods and my husband would watch our son while I went. I started through the woods and was somewhat perplexed by how different everything looked. Hard to describe; again “shimmery” is first word that comes to mind. As I rounded a bend in the path, I came face-to-face, about three or four feet away, with a little elf-looking man peering right at me from behind a tree. It was almost a stereotypical elf: long, pointy ears, long funny-shaped nose, very long fingers and pointy cap. It was wearing red clothes and hat, and its skin appeared to be a very light lavender color. I let out a startled "Ooh!" and it jerked back and just disappeared into thin air. Was this the product of a tired mind and an active imagination? Quite possibly. But, like stories of ghost encounters, these tales are related by serious people who will usually swear that they were not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and that their experiences seemed entirely real. In Jerome Clark's book, Unexplained!, he retells the story of 13-year-old Harry Anderson who had a strange encounter on a summer night in 1919. Anderson claimed to have seen a column of 20 little men marching in single file toward him. The bright moonlight made them clearly visible, and Anderson could see that they were dressed in leather knee pants with suspenders. The men were shirtless, bald and had pale white skin. They paid no attention to Anderson as they passed and seemed to be mumbling something unintelligible all the while. In Stowmarket, England in 1842, a man claimed this encounter with "fairies" when walking through a meadow on his journey home: There might be a dozen of them, the biggest about three feet high, and small ones like dolls. They were moving around hand in hand in a ring; no noise came from them. They seemed light and shadowy, not like solid bodies. I... could see them as plain as I do you. I ran home and called three women to come back with me and see them. But when we got to the place, they were all gone. I was quite sober at the time. paranormal.about.com/od/othercreatures/a/little-people.htm

paranormal.about.com/od/fairieslittlepeople/a/tales_13_07_14t.htm Leprechaun in TexasBY CHRIS S. By Stephen Wagner March 17, 2015 I'd have to say I was around five or six years old when I saw him. I'm fairly positive it was a male. I remember it vividly, even now, nearing my 24th birthday in October, 2013. I was spending the weekend at my father's one-bedroom apartment in Carrollton, Texas. From the living area came a hallway that ended in a sink and counter, with a restroom to the left and the bedroom to the right. I lay there for what seemed a couple hours, not being able to sleep and just thinking the thoughts of a young boy. There must have been a light outside of the large window in the far wall because it shone through the blinds and provided sufficient light for what I was to see next. It had to be around midnight and my father was sound asleep on the left side of the queen-size bed. From in front of the side table next to my dad's head, a little creature slowly stood up. At first I only saw his hat and head, his hair, dark and scraggly. An ornate type of metal buckle caught light on the front of his top hat as he looked around, like he had just come out of a mini portal of some sort, right there next to the bed, and wasn't sure of his surroundings. As he stood more upright from what seemed to be a crouching position, he appeared very old. His suit matched his hat, possibly a purple or brown color. He stood about three feet tall with a bad hunchback and brownish leathery skin. His hands ended in very long, bony fingers, all with nails nearing half the length of each finger. He never made eye contact with me, but instead "waddled" slowly down the hallway, stopping to look around every few steps. I watched as he turned left into the hallway/bathroom area and didn't see him again. As far as putting a label on him, I'd have to use the term Leprechaun. I sometimes try to tell people this story, but when I start with Leprechaun, they tend to listen to the story as complete fiction. It happened. I often reply to the laughter with a polygraph request. I only posted this with the hopes that someone, somewhere has seen one as well. paranormal.about.com/od/fairieslittlepeople/a/tales_13_07_14t.htm

endlessjrny.blogspot.com/ My Favorite Irish Ghost Storyby Chris Holly March 8, 2016 I wrote this article a few years ago and would like to bring to you once again during the celebration of St Patrick's Day. Both my friend and her sister were cautious but truly brave and stayed their ground unwilling to be chased from her new home. They were fearful of the ghost but not as much as I was. There seemed to be calmness about them concerning this haunting that I could not understand. I know many unusual people due to the subjects I write about and decided to call one of my contacts and friends who is a strong psychic and medium. This woman was had strong beliefs about her abilities and would only use her gifts when she felt people were in trouble or when the messages were very strong. If she were unsure or uncomfortable she would refuse to use her abilities. I did not know what she would do but decided to set up a visit with her so I could tell her what my doctor friend was going through. I was hopeful she might have some advice. I invited the psychic to lunch so we could sit and chat for a while. I took her to a favorite seafood place near my house. We no sooner sat down and ordered when my psychic friend looked at me and said: “ So you are having a ghost problem huh?” I would say I was stunned but knowing this woman I knew she was picking up my strong concerns. I told her most of what was happening to my pal in Canada when she stopped me mid- sentence and said-“ She picked him up at the graveyard because she was doing something Irish in the cemetery. He was drawn to her as she represented home and followed her back to her condo.” She then went on to say that she could clearly see him and that he was a young Irishmen who died suddenly and did not want to face the fact he was dead. He wanted to return home to Ireland. She told me I was to go home immediately and tell my friend to call him by his name -Matthew, and tell him he had to go with her now and that she was to talk to him non-stop as she walked him back to the graveyard. She told me to tell my friend she had to do this, as it was not safe to keep him in her home. She also instructed me to have my friend talk with him the entire way explaining to him that he needed to cross over and if he would follow the light to the other side he would then be able to find his way home to his beloved Ireland and family. The psychic told me he had been wandering that graveyard for years until he saw my friend do that “Irish thing”. The psychic told me it was important I try to get my friend to listen to me and do this or things could become- complicated and dangerous. I had no idea if my friend would listen to any of this but decided to go home to call her and try to get her to at least listen to my psychic friends warnings and advice. I called my friend in Canada and told her word for word what the psychic had told me. I did not know what reaction to anticipating as I was interfering and was afraid she would be angry. My friend did not say one word while I spoke which was making me very uncomfortable and nervous I had overstepped my boundaries. I finally finished all that the psychic had told me and listened as only silence greeted me on the other end of the phone. I started to regret calling when finally my doctor friend spoke. “ I did an Irish Jig in the graveyard on St Patrick’s day for my mom.” Of course, I replied with a “You did what?” She then told me that she went to the graveyard on St Patrick’s Day and brought green carnations and a big four-leaf clover that she set up around her mother’s headstone. She said she then talked to her mother as was her way and ended the visit by doing a wild Irish Jig right there in the graveyard as she had done for her mom every year on St Patties day. She told me that the haunting started almost at once after that last visit. She also was stunned the psychic picked up that she had done that in the cemetery. My friend agreed to do exactly as the psychic suggested. Along with her sister, they immediately began to speak to the ghost using his name. They both told him over and over that he had passed over and had to cross over to the light to find his way home to the land and family he loved. The next morning the two sisters started breakfast talking to Matthew and talked non-stop about his need to cross over to find his way. They also told him he had to go with them and walked back to the graveyard talking all the way to the ghost they hoped was walking with them. They walked him back to the middle of the cemetery where they told him one last time it was now the time for him to follow the light and cross over to where he wanted and needed to be. They talked of Ireland and his relatives who would surely be waiting for him on the other side. They told him he would be able to see his homeland and family once he walked over to where he needed to be. They talked and talked until they felt he was gone. They told Matthew he could not come home with them again and they left the cemetery and ran back to my friend’s condo. It has been six months and so far Matthew has not returned and all the ghostly events have ended in my friend’s house. I recently talked to the psychic who told me the poor lad had found his way and was busy back in the green of his homeland. She had no doubts he would not return. The doctor is back to her normal self and her sister has long moved back to her own home. I found the entire situation a walk into the unknown that will for me be another event that makes me shake my head in wonder how very much we just do not understand. I have learned to listen with an open mind to those who have events I can not understand and also promised myself to never do an Irish Jig in a cemetery – ever. endlessjrny.blogspot.com/2016/03/my-favorite-irish-ghost-story.html

ufodigest.com/article/leprechaun-0317IF YOU MISSED PART 1: ufodigest.com/article/leprechaun-0316 SOME VERY GOOD REASONS NOT TO GRAB A LEPRECHAUN ON ST.

Here's a #StPatricksDay look at a celestial shamrock! Many consider the shamrock to be a symbol of rebirth and life, so it's fitting that this nebula is a dusty region of star birth, seen by our Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer. Take a closer look: go.nasa.gov/2G0qQFsImage Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/UCLA Original Caption Released with Image: Many consider the shamrock to be a symbol of rebirth and life, making it a fitting symbol for St. Patrick's Day, which happens to occur around the same time as the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also fitting that today's image from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, features a region of star birth wrapped in a blanket of dust, colored green in this infrared view. Designated as LBN 149.02-00.13 (or Sh2-205 in the Sharpless catalog of nebulas), this interstellar cloud of dust and gas is a classic example of what astronomers call an HII region, because of all the ionized hydrogen, or HII, within it. Ionized gases carry an electric charge. This stellar nursery is made up of a shell of ionized gas surrounding a void with an extremely hot, bright star in the middle. With strong stellar winds and intense ultraviolet radiation, the central star -- CY Camelopardalis -- both clears away nearby gas and dust and heats the remaining dust in the shell, causing it to glow in the infrared wavelengths that WISE detected. The dust in the surrounding shell, colored green in this image, is mostly made of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon grains, similar to soot. They are warmer in temperature than the more metallic dust grains seen glowing in red around CY Cam. The heavy elements in such dust particles are cooked up in previous generations of stars and then incorporated into the new stars that are born from the cloud. This really is a region of rebirth and life. Regions very similar to LBN 149.02-00.13 have been featured in previous images, including the LBN 114.55+00.22 (PIA13127), and the LBN 211.91-01.37 (PIA13904) . Like these, LBN 149.02-00.13 can be found along the band of the Milky Way in the night sky, where clouds of gas and dust are much more common. It is located on the outer edge of our local spiral arm (the Orion Arm) about 3,000 light years away. WISE was particularly adept at seeing these types of regions because its infrared detectors were able to pick up light from the nebulae that many other telescopes cannot see. Scattered throughout the region you can see small clusters of bright red objects, especially near the upper left portion of the image. These are likely "Young Stellar Objects," surrounded by cocoons of dense dust. Young Stellar Objects are stars in their earliest stages of life, just coming together and beginning to start their nuclear fusion. The clouds of gas and dust surrounding each star provide the material from which future planets might possibly form. Perhaps we are seeing the birth of several new planetary systems in this one image alone. The colors used in this image represent specific wavelengths of infrared light. Blue and cyan (blue-green) represent light emitted at wavelengths of 3.4 and 4.6 microns, which is predominantly from stars. Green and red represent light from 12 and 22 microns, respectively, which is mostly emitted by dust. JPL manages the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington. The principal investigator, Edward Wright, is at UCLA. The mission was competitively selected under NASA's Explorers Program managed by the Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. The science instrument was built by the Space Dynamics Laboratory, Logan, Utah, and the spacecraft was built by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Boulder, Colo. Science operations and data processing take place at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. Caltech manages JPL for NASA. In today’s Doodle, Irish artist Ross Stewart celebrates his homeland’s rich history and heritage.
Standing in for the Google “L” is a tall stone that pays homage to Ireland’s earliest form of writing: ogham. The edge is marked with a series of ancient carvings, each group representing a letter of the ogham alphabet. See if you can read what it says (hint: it goes left to right, bottom to top!).
Meanwhile, a determined stonemason is hard at work against a backdrop of peaceful greens and blues. In the foreground, a sprinkling of native wildflowers rounds out Stewart’s ode to the isle’s vast, natural beauty – sheepish onlooker included.
Here’s to a happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Twickenham Stadium, London (CNN)St. Patrick's Day is always cause for celebration in Ireland, but this one will be extra-special. The Irish rugby team overturned England 15-24 at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday to secure its second ever Six Nations Grand Slam. Having clinched the championship last week, Joe Schmidt's side swept past England in the swirling London snow as three first-half tries laid the foundations for an historic victory. Only in 2009 had Ireland previously celebrated an undefeated campaign in the competition's current format. "I think words can't describe how delighted we are with that win, but also with the Grand Slam," said captain Rory Best after the game. "We just had to make every moment count, every single moment. "We knew it was going to be a really tough task to come here and win, but right from the off we tried to attack England with and without the ball." England, touted as the pre-tournament favorite, has now lost its past three games. This was the first loss under coach Eddie Jones on home soil. The visitors got off to a blistering start in the bitter cold at Twickenham. A high kick from fly-half Johnny Sexton was spilled by fullback Anthony Watson, allowing center Garry Ringrose to pounce on the loose ball over the England line. CJ Stander crossed soon after for Ireland after Bundee Aki had punched a hole in England's midfield. The hosts managed a reply, however, through Elliot Daly, who gathered an Owen Farrell kick following sustained pressure in the Irish half Ireland looked to be heading into halftime with a nine-point advantage, but a moment of brilliance from wing Jacob Stockdale increased his side's lead as he raced after his own chip through and beat two defenders to ground the ball over England's line. Playing in his first Six Nations, 21-year-old Stockdale has enjoyed a storming campaign, bagging a Six Nations record seven tries. Ireland controlled the opening stages of the second half and Conor Murray extended his side's lead with a penalty. www.cnn.com/2018/03/17/sport/six-nations-rugby-ireland-grand-slam-england-twickenham-intl/index.html?sr=twCNN031718six-nations-rugby-ireland-grand-slam-england-twickenham-intl0301PMStoryGal
