Massive UFO Prank On The Way
Submitted by Javier Ortega on May 16, 2011 – 8:57 AM Anonymous is in the midst of planning a world wide prank, this time, targeting UFO enthusiasts and well…almost everyone else. If you aren’t familiar with who Anonymous is, then let me quickly fill you in. Anonymous is the name of an online group of people that come from all walks of life and stand for social justice. Online or offline. This group of people are made up of ‘hacktivists’ and the curious. But besides the political aspect, they also do things for the “lulz”. Meaning that the group of talented anonymous users like to stage big elaborate pranks. Operation UFO is one of their latest pranks. On May 22nd, 2011 at around 8:00 pm EST the operation is set to commence. The plan is simple, flood UFO websites with fake reports of a triangular UFO. Then just sit back and watch the world go crazy. LOL. Is it childish? Yes. Is it funny? Yes. I think we’re becoming a society that is becoming dangerously to dependent on technology. I was at a bar the other night and noticed that almost everyone in the bar was taking pictures of themselves using their cellphones and uploading them to Facebook. Chatting online and browsing is the new thing to do I guess. Given that almost every American is so dependent on the internet for their daily dose of news, celebrity mishaps and knowledge, it’s easy to see how this can be detrimental. On the morning on May 23rd, let’s see what major news sites start to report these fake UFO sightings as the real thing. How many do you think will tie them to Obama possibly disclosing UFO files? How many will make a connection with UFOs and terrorism? FOX News….I’m counting on you for that. So, sit back and watch the UFO world go crazy on May 23rd. Full source: TNT Magazine:Online hacker group Anonymous has sent out a call-to-arms for its latest prank: attempting to convince the world (or alien enthusiasts, more like) of the existence of men from outer space.
At 8pm on May 22, anyone in on the idea is encouraged to report the same UFO sighting (“a triangle of about 8 yellow lights in the sky”) to the relevant hotline or website of their choice. The idea is that the sudden influx of identical reports will convince UFO buffs that contact is finally about to be made.www.ghosttheory.com/2011/05/16/massive-ufo-prank-on-the-way

It's not going to be much of a prank if everybody in the UFO community knows about it in advance. I bet some of the "mainstream" media outlets will be fooled.

Don't hold back, Billy! Tell us what you REALLY think! ;D The Sarasota Herald-Tribune
Devoidby Billy Cox May 19th, 2011 09:30am ‘Do you have Prince Albert in a can?’In 2003, William Puckett decided to shoulder a thankless load by setting up a UFO Web page out of his home in Seattle. He called it UFOs Northwest, and the idea was to give people a place to report what they saw under the cloak of anonymity. Puckett doesn’t handle the sort of monster traffic that flows into the Mutual UFO Network, or Peter Davenport’s National UFO Reporting Center, but he’ll get maybe two or three reports a day, which keeps him busy enough. And, reflecting age-old trends, he says he’d classify only 3 to 5 percent as “really compelling.” He’s partial to reports involving electromagnetic effects; in 2009, for instance, a literally hair-raising late-night incident in New Mexico involved a car hauler who said a triangular UFO temporarily drained power from his flashlight, his rig, and every car on the back of his trailer. Naturally, Puckett can’t verify this one, or most of the others, for that matter. But he says his BS meter is fully operational, and he figures 10 to 15 percent of his calls are hoaxes. But now, Puckett, MUFON, NUFORC, et al., are bracing for a tsunami of 100 percent certified pure unadulterated crud. At 8 o’clock EDT Sunday evening — the day after a California radio preacher predicts the world will end — a network of hackers calling themselves Anonymous will launch “Operation UFO” by flooding Web sites with fake reports of a triangle distinguished by eight yellow lights. Anonymous says its goal is “to strike fear into the idiots of the world,” which will presumably reach its high-water mark as the idiotic global media puts a full-court press on this spectacular non-event by time the sun rises Monday morning. This gag is as original as cutting armpit farts and maybe half as instructive. “Most hoaxers aren’t too smart,” says Puckett. “Generally you don’t announce a hoax in advance because everybody will know about it.” And who couldn’t feel at least a twinge of sympathy for Davenport? He’s been enduring juvenile behavior for 17 years with NUFORC. “This is nothing new. There have been at least a half dozen organized attempts to generate an international hoax among investigators and the people who cover UFOs in the press,” he says. “This is yet another reflection on how the Internet allows people to behave in an irresponsible fashion with impunity.” Maybe the Internet is where the acceleration of human intelligence finally hits the oil slick. Anyway, looks like “Operation UFO” is a go for Sunday night. And in the event of a legitimate sighting? Save your breath, man, it’s toast. devoid.blogs.heraldtribune.com/11888/do-you-have-prince-albert-in-a-can/

Yup, same one I commented on earlier this morning in 'Steve Threads'. The more it leaks early before hand, the less the hoax will fool people.

Here is the post Steve made earlier. I want to put it over here on the hoax thread now that we have a hoax thread. Steve wrote: This new 'intel' has come in to me personally over the' teletype' [sic] this morning... Something is afoot. So watch out for lies, hoaxes. Filter your information objectively.
Will Mufon see through this? Probably (will see), but based from recent internal communications doubt their own people will know since they now have this stiffling 'secret climate' about free flow on internal information to where it is important - their people in the field. But sure the Mufon BOD knows...for all the worth that is.
Link to poster image outlines the hoax instructions to bombard those UFO websites (or organizations) on the internet that accept sighting reports into their respective data bases.
On May 22, 2011, at 20:00 hours Eastern time (United States), hoaxers are to simultainiously bombard internet UFO databases with sighting reports of a 'Large UFO triangle with 8 yellow lights' worldwide.
The poster also calls such people interested in UFO's 'idiots'.
I did send a friendly alert to Peter Davenport at NUFORC, Bill Pucket at 'UFO's Northwest', ARIRA, and EPIC.

"This Hoax deal. . . there is obviously more to this... the whole thing is Just too easy... can't help thinking someone is laying the ground work for a cover story, if needed. A mass UFO sighting hoax is being planned for May 22nd at 8 p.m. EST by the hackers groups known as 'Anonymous'. Here is the post: i.imgur.com/2f4eu.png Also interesting, this is the weekend that the extremist right wing Christians, think the world is coming to an end. (rapture scenario) This story was apparently initiated by a closely held (owned) Christian broadcasting group, which disseminated this idea nationally by radio broadcast and Billboards.
With impending Hoaxes and Religious Rapture events on the horizon for this weekend, there will be plenty of explanations available if something from the "other category" happens."

I don't see any UFO investigators being fooled by any of it. I think the hoaxers just hoaxed themselves. What a waste of time.

One might consider the possibility that this was purposefully designed and brought to light as a form of meme. A hoax of a hoax intended to mess with people's centers of belief. Yes, there are those who delight in such things. It follows the logic of "reality TV" taken to an extreme. The media culture is a sick, crazy ride into insanity. Buyer beware.

Possibly. I notice that we had a lot of new members signing up in the days before this hoax occurred but none of them ever posted anything. Is it possible some of those people were planning on posting their silly little hoax here but then changed their mind when they saw the discussions we were having about their silly little hoax? Possibly.
