Censorship at Ufomania? It has come to my attention that the Ufomania moderating regime has changed their previous policy of allowing open discussions and freedom of speech on their forum and it appears they are now instead going to be engaging in selective censorship. An announcement was just made in their general announcement category which states: It is well established that ufology consists of a great deal of sensationalism and fallacies. In an effort to be part of the solution to such challenges, the UFOmania moderating team requests that the following points be noted:
It is the desire of the UFOmania moderating team to cultivate the exchange of accurate information, discourage the exchange of inaccurate information, and facilitate the open discussion of factual circumstances. Moderators therefore have an obligation to demand credible sources to be referenced and cited when claims are made in regards to relevant research, high profile members of the UFO community, high profile cases, and similar such matters of historical record. Moderators will deal with the circumstances as applicable when information is presented without accompanying credible sources for verification. Posts will be moved and/or dealt with as deemed appropriate that consistently take otherwise productive discussions off topic, misquote facts, do not cite references for relevant claims, and consist of similar such content that add no value to a discussion, this forum, or ufology. (color added)
The moderating team no longer views this message board as an extension of the former MUFON forum. UFOmania has evolved through various stages of development, has established its own personality and mission as stated above, and does not view any participants or demographics with any favoritism whatsoever based solely on their former affiliations or claimed experiences.
Ad hominem arguments are not encouraged on this forum. Critical thinking is encouraged on this forum, it always has been and it will continue to be.
Space is provided for the sharing of details of personal possible abduction experiences and seeking emotional support, but that was never intended to solely or even primarily be the focus of this forum as is clearly stated in the rules. The rules were clear from the beginning, should be read, and may be viewed at:
ufomania.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rules&action=display&thread=127
We look forward to UFOmania continuing to evolve while enabling forum members to most effectively learn the facts about ufology, its members, and its cases. Please contact the moderating team, stiver, jjflash, and spotless38, with any questions or comments.
UFOmania Moderating Team I knew this was going to happen. As soon as jjflash became a moderator I knew this is the direction they would be heading in. That is one of the many reasons why I was so strongly apposed to him being in a leadership position. My feud with Jack Brewer (jjflash) first began long ago on the old MUFON forum when he first proposed the idea of censorship. He wanted the moderators to impose restrictions on the discussions to prevent certain people from making certain posts. Mainly he was trying to stop members like randy and perfection from talking about their underground alien bases and their soul-sucking vampire aliens from other dimensions. As soon as he made the suggestion I immediately started arguing against him in favor of freedom of speech. I believe that in order for an internet forum to be successful you have got to allow open discussions without putting restrictions on the debate. Once somebody starts putting limitations on the discussions you no longer have a free exchange of ideas. Instead, the only ideas that will be allowed are those approved and condoned by the people in authority. This is censorship, and in my opinion it should be avoided at all costs. It seems that since I am no longer there to oppose him JJ is now able to do whatever he wants. It will be interesting to see how people respond to it.

~rolls eyes~ This is all because "David" has given JJ an inferiority complex. You know this to be true. Translation of JJ's reference of "Ad hominem" into English from Elitist BS: From wikipedia: (A non-credible source in JJ's mind) Ad hominem abuse (also called personal abuse or personal attacks) usually involves insulting or belittling one's opponent in order to invalidate his or her argument, but can also involve pointing out factual but ostensible character flaws or actions which are irrelevant to the opponent's argument. This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and even true negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions. The reason why JJFlash has posted this on the UFOmania forum is because of the Emma Woods thread which he started over there. Apparently Emma herself has been personally contributing to that particular thread. It seems she was brought there by JJ in order to try to debunk any hypnotherapist whatsoever because she claims to have been "lead" by her hypnotherapist into remembering things which truly did not happen to her. The reference to "Ad hominem" is in reference to "David's" post about the character of Emma Woods. "David's Post" on the Emma Woods Thread: Woods was claiming being raped by so called alien hybrids every night according to Jacobs - related to me by Elaine Douglas (JAR), Jacobs was not fearful of hybrids as Woods claims. Woods became 'emotionally dependent' calling Jacobs constantly. Jacobs professionally felt it was best to not continue research into Wood's case, and Woods snapped emotionally. The panty thing was Jacobs asking if - Woods wild claims of being raped every night was true, to provide any physical evidence of such a claim then. The fact she couldn't maybe telling. Emma lives outside the country. I told Elaine perhaps she forward my suggestion to Jacobs he consider going to the local court seeking a judge to perhaps consider a 'restraining order' against Woods. Just for the record. Knowing the anti alien abduction agenda of this forum, dare to consider other possibilities perhaps the claims against Hopkins and Jacobs might not be all true. In this controversial field, one is bound inevitably to run into someone perhaps a little or considerably 'off the beam'. JJ and Stiver are publicizing for their anti abduction research agendas the sick fantasies of Emma Woods - who according to Elaine characterized Emma Woods basically as a 'stalker'. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ So... tell me if I've got this right because I'm not so sure: Ad hominem abuse (personal attack without proof) has been perpetrated by David because he said that Emma Woods was mentally unstable and has been accused of stalking according to a source of his. However... (In JJFlash's mind) Ad hominem abuse (personal attack without proof) has NOT been perpetrated by Emma Woods by accusing her hypnotherapist of making her remember false memories without any proof that I have been able to find on her website. The woman boasted that she had recorded audio clips from her actual hypnosis sessions, but when I clicked on them my browser simply said, "error". Interesting... don't you all think?

True Colors
It is amazing what you can do when you don't know what you are doing. I found that out just recently when I was working on the colors for the board. The old color pattern was just something temporary that I threw together.
Well, no, that's not entirely correct. I actually worked pretty hard on it. I'm not very good with computers, so for me trying to turn one on is hard work... Trying to type a message on it is hard work... Trying to create a skin on an internet forum is...a nightmare!
Especially when all you have to work with is a bunch of numbered computer codes. The way they have it set up you have to choose about 25 different color codes and insert them into different boxes for every possible thing on the board that you could imagine...title text, category text, background, title background, etc, etc... Then, after you get all of those codes entered how you think you want it to be you push the magic button and voila... the forum looks like a color-blind baboon designed it.
I worked for days trying to get those blasted codes to come out right. I thought a nice little purple and white scheme would be nice. So I put the purple code in here and the white code over there and the code for the text over here...or was that the background... hmm...
The first one I tried looked like bat barf. The second one looked like Godzilla ate Tokyo and puked all over the forum. The third one looked like Godzilla at Tokyo, then ate a grape jelly factory, and then barfed all over the screen. I think we are beginning to see a pattern here. Finally after days and days of trying I ended up with some light purple-lavender thing that all of the guys made fun of but I didn't care because it was the first thing I came up with that looked half-way decent. So I left it there for a while as I concentrated on other things.
Eventually I ran out of other things to concentrate on and I realized I had to go back and redo the colors. I was not looking forward to it...but it had to be done.
At first I tried to take the old color pattern and change it one color at a time. Not a good idea. Godzilla started rearing his ugly head again. I tried again, and again, and again...still not good. The grape jelly factory had returned, followed by a blob that looked kind of like Grimace from the McDonald's commercials...if he had been stomped on by Godzilla.
Finally at about 4 O'clock in the morning after having stayed awake all night long and in a fit of total exasperation I said to heck with it and just got rid of all of the codes and started out fresh. I figured I couldn't do any worse than I had been.
I chose several shades of blue because it is my favorite color...a star-studded background because it matched the banner. I added a little bit of red, a touch of purple, a hint of black, a few other codes that I did not even know, crossed my fingers, said a prayer, ate some Lucky Charms, closed my eyes and pushed the button...
When I opened my eyes I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It actually looked half-way decent. The colors actually matched. It was unbelievable. What is even more unbelievable is that I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but I somehow did it anyway, and all because I refused to give up.
That is the secret to success right there. First you have to try, and then you have to keep trying until you succeed. Don't ever give up, because if you work at something for a long enough period of time sooner or later your true colors are bound to come shining through.

I'm sure it looks great skywalker. I would have to get on the other computer to see the colors though.

Sky.. I know what you mean. I try and make background colors for my desktop. You mix the shades in this computer to what you want. I just get ugly ones in the end.. I had a perfect one I loved best then one day it was not there. I have not been able to mix it the same since ..It was a tan brown shade very pretty, soft light color not a dark tan.. it did not look sable either. Glad you found this one.. Since you told this post. I will go back and try again. There are three color bars on my computer you enter three different colors and turn them up and down to mix.. I know what you mean about ugly ones. I got a lot of those..

Off the Deep End
I haven't posted anything here in a while. I was planning to write something on this thread almost every day but I've been so busy lately I just haven't had time. That's what I get for starting an Internet forum without really thinking things through. I just kind of dove in head first hoping I wouldn't smack my head on the bottom, then when I found out the water was deep enough I quickly realized I might have been in way over my head. Luckily I am a quick learner.
I am learning something else also. It is slowly becoming apparent to me that if I act like I know what I am doing then other people might actually be convinced that I do know what I am doing. That's a scary thought, but one that I found myself confronting a week ago.
I had been getting email messages (along with all of the other MUFON members) from Elaine Douglass, who was formerly the MUFON State Director of Utah. She was recently fired by Clifford Clift after more than four decades of faithful service. Not one to take being dismissed so easily she decided to fight back by forming the Committee to Reform MUFON and starting a petition drive to try to force the Board of Directors to act more responsibly. This is something that I totally believe needs to be done, and since I agreed with what she was saying I invited her to join the forum.
After corresponding with her for a few days you can imagine my surprise when I logged on to find an urgent message waiting for me. It seems that Elaine was preparing for a meeting with the MUFON chapter in Colorado and she wanted some info about the state of the current MUFON forum and she was asking me for advice. As if that is not scary enough, I actually gave it to her.
I don't know how I get myself into these things. A couple of months ago I was just a good old boy from a small town in Texas, and now, just a short period of time later, I am the administrator of a forum, I'm writing a blog, and I am giving advice to committee members. When will this mad, whirlwind existence ever end?
Not anytime soon I hope. I may be in over my head but I am learning how to swim pretty well and the forum seems to be staying afloat. I really enjoy writing my blog, and the people at the Edge of Reality seem to be optimistic with the direction we are headed in. I think I might just keep treading water for a while and see what happens. After all, I am already wet. I just hope the sharks don't show up anytime soon!

Well Morgan - those of us here who post all the time obviously like this forum. When I check out the "old forum" it seems like a lot of the posts are written by JJ, Stiver and the anti-Hopkins crowd. I think, "Should I say something here?" but truly my kind of say something doesn't work over there so I don't.
Thanks for the perfect purple and your ongoing work in getting this up and keeping it up.

Our New Theme SongI don't know if everybody here has heard or not but our forum now has it's very own theme song. It is called "The Edge of Reality" (what else would it be called?) and was written, composed, and produced by our very own extremely talented and creative member/moderator, Lorelei. I had no idea that she was even making a theme song. To be honest with you the thought never even crossed my mind, so imagine my surprise when I logged on one day and found out that she had posted it in the "Welcome" thread. I couldn't help but laugh when I heard it. It's very lively and upbeat, with a fast-paced tempo and quirky, humorous lyrics that pretty much describe this place perfectly. It starts off talking about ghosts, moves on to Bigfoot and then UFOs and aliens, and has a wonderfully descriptive chorus. All in all I think it is a very good song. I know, you probably think I am heaping too much praise on it, and maybe I am. I just want the composer to know how much I appreciate the hard work she put into it. Things like this are only possible because we have such wonderful people here who are willing to go out of their way to invest their time and effort into our little community to make it the best place it can possibly be. many people have done just that. Heidi_hybrid designed our banner, Auntym handles the Twitter thingy, Jokelly is one of our moderators, Steve is sharing details of his investigations with us, and many other people are giving details about their dreams and experiences, as well as all of the wonderful posts that people make on a daily basis. This is what sets us apart from the rest of the forums out there...we have some of the best members on the Internet. And now, thanks to one of those members, we now have our own theme song. Other forums don't have their own theme songs. ;D Okay, maybe I am gloating a little. I just think it's funny. A couple of months ago I never would have thought that some day I would be the administrator of a forum, and now I am the administrator of not only a forum, but a forum with a theme song! Is that cool or what? I just want to say thank you to everybody for making all of this possible. You people are so cool! Just in case you haven't heard it, here it is... The Edge of Reality, by Lorelei.

~blush~ More time was spent on the banner I think than I spent on the song... ~hides under the piano~ I started writing the music a couple weeks ago when my sister told me she was so mad at her husband she wanted to burn the house down and move to Canada. The song (without lyrics) was entitled "BURN!" appropriately enough... I was frustrated and unable to come up with lyrics to the song and it sat on my computer word-less for weeks while I continued to work on my other pieces. I came back to it, and the thought just struck me. It only took about 10 minutes and this is still a draft which I intend to improve upon later when my voice gets better from this cold I've gotten... Thanks for liking it you guys... you're welcome... it is not my best piece by any means... but I love to entertain people. It's what I do... ~blushes again~ All the music is keyboards played by me... all the voices (although raspy from being sick) are me... all of it except the drums... is me. The drums were done by the computer... but yea. I do this stuff all the time. It's nothing special...

I'm not trying to embarass anybody with all of this praise, I just think it is really cool that we are able to work together like this. Everything on this forum was done by people who volunteered their time and effort just because they wanted to help out. Nobody is being paid to do any of this. By comparison, there are professional football players, some of whom make millions of dollars to play a game, and they are considering going on strike because they want more money. What's up with that?

The Forum on FacebookI have a Facebook account set up for the forum now. I also set one up for myself under the name Morgan Sierra. I haven't really put anything on them yet because I don't have a clue what I am supposed to do with them but I will figure it out. How hard can it be? Millions of teenagers use Facebook every day so it should not be to difficult to teach an old fuddy-duddy like me a new trick. I think this might be a good way to spread the word about us and possibly get a few new members. We will see what happens. Every one we get helps I suppose, although we are not doing bad right now. I kind of like this little community we have going here. I was actually a little bit hesitant to do Facebook for the forum because I was worried that it might attract the wrong type of people. When it comes to new members I would much rather have people who are really interested in the subjects that we discuss here rather than just a bunch of bored teenagers who just want to cause problems. I guess that is what the "boot" button is for though. We will see what happens. If it turns out to be a mistake I can always take it down. I'm planning to do a little more experimenting with things in the future to try to get the word out about us. I'm just taking it slow right now, doing one thing at a time to see what works and what doesn't. If anybody has any advice or suggestions feel free to let me know, and if anybody wants to check out the Facebook pages go for it. Send a friend request, or whatever it is that people do, and I will add you on there.

Driving on the Edge
Working as a truck driver and driving all over the country has caused me to see some really strange things and to meet some really crazy people. Last night was a good example.
I was driving through downtown Toledo getting ready to pick up a load at a warehouse. It had just started snowing and the roads were covered with slush. The temperature was only about 30 degrees so it wasn't really freezing, but still cold.
As I was approaching an intersection I saw a car up ahead of me suddenly slam on his brakes even though the light was green. Getting closer I saw that there was a man in the middle of the road jumping out in front of the cars that were driving by! This crazy fool would leap right out in front of people and try to force them to stop.
The car that was in front of me finally made it past the guy and started driving again, and then he saw me coming. Apparently the dude still had a few working brain cells in his head because he got out of the way. If he had jumped out in front of me like he did the cars he would probably be road kill right now. There is no way I could have stopped the truck in time to keep from squishing him. Since I had a bad case of the stomach flu and was not in the mood to be playing around with idiots I don't even know if I would have tried.
As I drove past him the light turned red and I slowed to a stop. As I did so I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw the guy running out into the road again, probably jumping out in front of the next car. What a wacko!
When the light turned green I started driving again, and when I had gotten about a mile down the road a car pulled up next to me and started honking his horn. I rolled down the window and the driver yelled out at me, "Hey! There's some guy riding on the back of your trailer!"
Apparently that crazy fool had jumped on the back of my trailer when I was stopped at the red light. He must have been hanging on to the door latch with his feet on the back bumper, which is not an easy position to maintain...especially when the truck is going down the road at forty miles per hour!
I started to pull over and stop to get the guy off but then this thought popped into my head. "What if he has a gun? What if I stop the truck and he comes running up with a gun and shoots me?" Truck drivers are not allowed to carry weapons in their trucks so I would have been totally defenseless against him. I have heard stories of drivers who have been killed because they confronted people like that.
I was sitting there wondering what to do when I finally decided, "I ain't stopping!" Like I said, I was sick with the flu and I was not in the mood to be entertaining fools. So instead, I speeded up. I decided I was going to get that guy off one way or another. I was driving like a maniac, weaving all over the road hitting every pothole in sight. I went airborne over a railroad crossing then splashed through a huge mud puddle. I kept doing that for the next five miles.
When I finally stopped at the warehouse the lunatic was nowhere to be seen, so apparently he either jumped off or fell off, one or the other. I didn't hear any ambulance sirens so I assume he was okay...physically anyway. Mentally he definitely had a few screws loose.
Every day we come here to The Edge of Reality and read about aliens and UFOs and all of the strange things that may exist in our universe. We sometimes forget that there are just as many strange things, and people, right here on our own planet. That crazy guy was a perfect example. If he were ever to visit the edge he would probably dive headfirst off the other side and laugh all the way to the bottom. Maybe it would knock some sense into him.

People do some stupid things sometimes. I had a man jump out in front of me once as I was driving through Austin. I slammed on the brakes and barely stopped in time to keep from hitting him but he fell down on the ground and rolled around like he was hurt. The cops showed up and arrested him. they said the man jumped out in front of trucks every day hoping to get hit so he could file a lawsuit and get millions of dollars. What good would it do him if he is dead and can't spend it?

maybe he was on drugs..... I had a guy who was on drugs come into the grocery store a couple days ago. He was waiting in line and started cussing and was very angry and slamming things around. My manager walked over to him and said, "Sir, is there a problem?" He started yelling about how there was a man in line behind him. "I have a cab waiting outside and I don't have time for this *bleep!" The manager said, "... he's in line BEHIND you sir..." The man didn't seem to understand that concept. I finally got to him and rang him up, then tossed the potato chips and soda pop down to my manager who bagged them for me (he was playing courtesy clerk cuz he was bored). The man paid me for the stuff, then started screaming at me, "WHERE'S MY STUFF?!?!" My manager said, "RIGHT HERE!" holding up the bag. ~rolls eyes~ My manager followed him stealthily out to the parking lot. There was no cab waiting outside, he was sitting on the bench. I guess he got a ride somewhere or something because he wasn't there when I got off work. I feel sorry for that cab-driver. Yesterday, I was bored and ringing people up at about 11:30 pm. My buddy from the gas station (I was giving him a ride home) was hanging out behind me waiting for me to get off and we were joking around. I know... it's not "professional"... but I was bored out of my mind and tired and needed something to keep me awake. But anyway, my buddy got up on his toes and craned his head and looked over towards the Customer Service desk (which closes at 10 pm). "What the HECK?" he said. I craned my neck and looked too. There was a woman standing behind the service desk admiring the locked cigarette cabinet. "What the HECK is SHE doing back there? Is SHE supposed to be back there?" my buddy shouted. I got the attention of my manager and he went over to investigate. As he approached her, she moved over towards the cash register and pretended she was talking to a customer (a black man who was on the other side of the counter). My manager chased her off and her and the man exited the store quickly. What an idiot... Oh, and skywalker... the guy who latched onto the back of your truck was probably on speed and thought he was Spiderman... ;D

Oh, and skywalker... the guy who latched onto the back of your truck was probably on speed and thought he was Spiderman... ;D I don't know if he was on speed when he jumped up there but he definitely was when he came off...about 50 miles per hour worth. ;D Spiderman probably isn't the right character either. He was probably more like the human fly as he flew through the air. ;D ;D I know I probably shouldn't be making jokes about this since this is a real human being we are talking about and whether he got hurt getting off the trailer or not he definitely has issues, but I have had to deal with too many wackos in my lifetime. I could have done without this one.

What a day, sky. I don't begrudge you those moments. I am reminded of one sunny afternoon as I drove very slowly through a historic neighborhood in a very old southern town. Watching your fingernails grow is more exciting, I assure you. As I drove along, I noticed a cat sitting alongside the road on the sidewalk a hundred yards or so ahead of me. This cat immediately struck me as rather odd. Perhaps it was how it sat there, watching my truck as I approached on the street. It even appeared to be looking directly at me. I passed by with no incident...until the cat would have been center mass between the front tire and back tire of my truck. That was when it happened: THUMP!The cat had launched itself directly into my truck, and seemed to have struck the front of the rear quarter panel. I pulled over a little ways up the road and got out to investigate. The thought that I might have killed this cat was a terrible thing to entertain. I looked around, but could find no cat...and prepared myself for the worst, and carefully inspected the undercarriage of my truck for any remains. Nada. Nothing. Not even a dent or ding where the THUMP! happened. What a strange afternoon. You be the judge: cat stoned on too much catnip? And...just where the heck did it go? That bothered me for quite a while.

Did you check to see if he was clinging to your rear bumper like that lunatic who jumped on my trailer? Not only do we have crazy people, now we also have suicidal cats. What in the world would possess an animal (or a person) to do something like that? I guess the person might think that it would be fun, but what was the cat thinking?
