www.inquisitr.com/1643290/harry-houdini-gravesite-restoration-undertaken-fittingly-enough-by-magicians/ Posted: November 29, 2014 Harry Houdini Gravesite Restoration Undertaken, Fittingly Enough, By Magiciansby Aric Mitchell The Harry Houdini gravesite in New York City has long been the target of vandals and miscreants, but a group of magicians is now hoping to change that with a project to restore it. Fox News reports that the Society of American Magicians will be spearheading a move to restore the site to its former glory, thus paying tribute to one of America’s greatest entertainers. Harry Houdini, born Ehrich Weiss, found success as one of the most talented escape artists to ever live. His life has been honored in film and television for decades, but during that same period of time, his grave has gradually disappeared. Dorothy Dietrich, a member of the group and head of a Houdini museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania, hopes to change that. “Houdini was a visionary,” she told the news site. “He was an inventor, an escape artist, and he gave back to society in so many ways. It’s the least we can do to give back in some small way for all he’s given to us.” Very few relatives of Houdini still exist, but those that are left do not have the money to pay for upkeep of the gravesite. Fox notes that Houdini was at his most popular when he purchased “24 plots at the 6-acre graveyard located in a swath of open space crowded with cemeteries,” adding that his parents, siblings, and even an already deceased grandmother who was exhumed and brought over from Hungary, are interred there. Harry Houdini died, according to the book On the Edge of the Unknown by friend and author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, when he was struck in the stomach, and his appendix ruptured. He could reportedly withstand the punch of any man, no matter how fierce, and is said to have been sucker-punched by boxer and McGill University student Jocelyn Gordon Whitehead, after being asked whether the claims were true. Many historians are uncertain whether Whitehead’s punches really caused Houdini’s death, or if the master illusionist would have died anyway had he never crossed paths with the man, though others note that the blows might have masked the pain of the appendicitis until it was too late for Houdini to get help. Whitehead later died of malnutrition, according to Find A Grave. Author Don Bell wrote about him in the 2004 book, The Man Who Killed Houdini. As for the Harry Houdini restoration project, here’s hoping it goes well. Best of luck to the organizers. www.inquisitr.com/1643290/harry-houdini-gravesite-restoration-undertaken-fittingly-enough-by-magicians/#JT2zJ0RwGRCg0TA6.99

As a piece of cross-promotion with the upcoming Goosebumps movie, the video features Jack Black (and 'Slappy' the ventriloquist dummy), and discusses likely rational explanations for things like sleep paralysis and spirit mediums. Murderous ventriloquist dummies are another matter though... Published on Oct 12, 2015 Give yourself Goosebumps: www.facebook.com/GoosebumpsMovie

THE GHOST OF MARY HAWKINS HAUNTED PEMBERTON HALL AT EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
HAUNTED MUSIC ROOM
The most famous school spirit in Illinois is undoubtedly the phantom who haunts the women’s dorm known as Pemberton Hall at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. This building has a long and rich history that is filled with tradition... and tales of ghosts.
Pemberton Hall, or "Pem" as it is sometimes referred to by its residents, was the first college building in Illinois to provide housing for women on campus. It may also be the first such building to become haunted. The past decades have provided literally hundreds of tales of strange events, ghostly apparitions, and frightening tales about the dorm. For more than 80 years, women living in the hall claim to have encountered the ghost, or ghosts, here and have reported her playing the piano and scratching on the walls of the building’s abandoned fourth floor.
But how did the tale begin? As with every chilling tale, it started with a series of terrifying events. In this case, they took place on a cold winter‘s night around 1917....
It was a bitterly cold night in January and one of the residents of Pemberton Hall went upstairs to the fourth floor of the building to play the piano. It was very late but the young woman had been unable to sleep. She hoped that some soft music might ease her mind and help her to relax.
The story goes that a janitor who worked on campus somehow managed to gain access to the women’s hall that night. The janitor cautiously made his way through the dark building to the upper floor. Here, he found his victim with her back turned to the open doorway. He grabbed her savagely and pummeled her with his fists. Then, tearing and pulling, he tore away her nightgown and attacked her, raping her, beating her and then leaving her for dead. Soon after, he made his escape and vanished into the cold winter’s night.
The young woman, however, was not dead. She managed to drag herself to the stairs, leaving a bloody trail in her wake, and crawled down the steps. She pulled her battered body along the hallways, feebly scratching on doors and trying to awaken someone to help her. Finally, she made it to a counselor’s door and managed to rouse her from her sleep. When the counselor came to the door, she found the young woman in a pool of blood, her body bruised, torn and now lifeless.
As the years have passed, residents of Pemberton Hall say they have heard this event from the past repeating itself in the building. They recall the dragging sounds heard near the stairs that lead to the upper floor and the sounds of scratching on doors and walls. Most disconcerting though are the bloody footprints that have appeared in the corridor, only to vanish moments later. Many believe the ghost of the murdered young woman has returned to haunt Pemberton Hall. But if she has, she does not walk in this building alone!
The counselor who discovered the murdered girl was named Mary Hawkins. She was a young woman herself, barely older than the ladies she had been hired to assist were. She was a very attractive woman with long, blond hair and a bright disposition that quickly made her a favorite among the residents of Pemberton Hall. However, the effect of the murder on Mary’s personality was devastating. She became haunted by the death of the young woman and students spoke of seeing her pacing the hallways at all hours of the night, unable to sleep and tormented by horrible visions and guilt. Finally, unable to cope with her depression, and the nightmares that accompanied it, Mary was institutionalized and later committed suicide.
Shortly after her death, the residents of Pemberton Hall started to report some rather strange occurrences in the building, and these spooky events continue today. They believe the incidents can be explained as the ghost of Mary Hawkins, still making her rounds and checking in on the young women who live in the building. Perhaps her spirit is unable to rest after losing one of the women in her care and she still roams the hall, watching out for them and protecting them from harm. Her ghost is said to glide through the rooms, locking and unlocking doors, turning off radios and televisions and generally keeping track of things that go on here.
For many years, students have spoken of the odd happenings in the building and events that would convince even the most skeptical of residents that perhaps the hall was truly haunted. On many occasions, students that I have spoke with have told me of late night door knocking and inexplicable sounds in the hallways. Once the door is opened to see who might be there, the hallway is discovered to be empty. Others claim to have seen the apparition of a woman entering their rooms and then vanishing. Some have seen her leave, closing and locking the door behind her. In other cases, residents who distinctly recall leaving their doors open, often find them to be mysteriously locked the next morning. It was as if someone was checking up on them and was worried about their safety. Could it have been Mary Hawkins?
And these are recent accounts that I have heard first-hand from some of the former residents... the original stories date back even further than this!
According to one former resident, there was a string of strange incidents in the fall of 1952 when she was living in the dorm. She explained that the girls were being awakened at all hours of the night by banging on the doors and from knocks that seemed to be coming from inside of the walls. No cause was ever determined for the incidents, but most just assumed that it was Mary, trying to make her presence known.
Throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s, residents reported hearing the sounds of whispers in the building, especially on the fourth floor, and there were a number of reports of apparitions on the stairwell. These figures appeared very briefly and then vanished. One student, who lived in Pemberton Hall in 1976, recalled the problems that the resident advisors had with the furniture in one of the lounges. It seemed that all of the furniture in this room was often found to be overturned or at the very least, rearranged. It would often happen during the overnight hours, but sometimes it happened much faster than that.... and was cleaned up instead of moved about! Apparently, an RA walked into the room one morning and discovered the furniture had all been moved around. She went to get some help to straighten the room up again and when she and another resident came back, they found everything had been restored to order! After that, the RA always just left the room the way she found it and yet somehow, it would later be cleaned up again. The students on the floor all denied knowing how this continued to take place.
Most students don’t actually see Mary, or the other ghosts, but few doubt the spirit exists. Many have had their own odd encounters, even without the benefit of actually seeing anything. My wife, Amy Taylor, is an alumnus of Eastern Illinois University and lived in Pemberton Hall for several years. She has recounted many stories about Mary Hawkins and the strange activity here. While she never came face to face with Mary Hawkins, she did have a few disconcerting experiences. One recurring incident involved the lights on the fourth of the building, where the music room is located and where the attack on the young woman took place many years ago. Even though this floor is now locked and off-limits to residents, many of the students reported seeing the windows open and close and the lights turn on and off. There was never any logical explanation for why this might be taking place.
In addition, Amy tells of another unexplained incident that took place one morning after she and a number of other residents left a communal shower room. When they closed the door behind them, they were sure that all of the curtains to the individual showers had been closed. When they entered the hallway, they heard a loud sound like something monstrous was sliding across the floor of the empty room behind them. They ran back in to find that all of the shower curtains were now open and a heavy wooden chair had somehow traveled across the room under its own power. It was now sitting directly in front of the door! No one else had entered or had left the room since Amy and the others had departed.
In recent years, the majority of weird reports have centered on the fourth floor. Even though no one ever goes up there, this has not stopped residents from reporting the sound of footsteps pacing overhead and the strains of faint piano music filtering down from the upper floor. The floor remains darkened and closed off and is empty save for old furniture and the dust of decades. It has been abandoned by students and visitors alike, although there is still a piano stored in the music room. Is this where the music comes from? If so, one has to wonder is the music that comes from it these days is of our world or the next......?

It's on our list of scariest space-based movies. Credit: Dimension Films No Halloween season is complete without a few scary movies, so here are Space.com's recommendations for the most frightening flicks with a cosmic twist. In film, science fiction and horror have gone hand in hand since either genre was born. Among the space-exploration flicks of the 1950s, many feature space monsters and unfriendly aliens, and this simple premise has been revisited again and again over the last 60 years. Each time, filmmakers update their depictions of spaceships, cosmic destinations and the physical characteristics of alien beings, but the fundamental premise remains the same: What lies in wait in the darkness of space? [Please note that these movies are not suitable for all viewers, and many of them contain disturbing images. We trust you'll use your own best judgement when deciding whether or not to see them.] CONTINUE READING: www.space.com/30968-scariest-space-movies-list.html?cmpid=514648_20151031_54657636&adbid=660554347248418816&adbpl=tw&adbpr=15431856

From mysterious alien planets to ghostly nebulas, the universe is filled with oddly shaped objects that let the imagination run wild. In honor of Halloween, here are five of Space.com's favorite creepy space images: The witch's head The appropriately named Witch Head Nebula truly looks like a witch screaming out into the void of space. The conjurer even has green skin, a crooked nose and a pointy chin in this photo taken by NASA's Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) and release on Halloween 2013. (The witch is turned sideways in the image.) If you want to try to spot the Witch's Nebula this Halloween, look to the constellation Orion's "knee" to possibly spot the cosmic witch. Hey everybody! I'm back!! My computer was having problems. I think some gremlins must have got in it or maybe skywalker gave it some of his cooties. It didn't wanna work so I couldn't tell you how my Halloween was. As usual it was great!! First I helped my sister's kids get dressed up in their costumes and go trick or treating and then when it got dark we set up a sheet against the garage door and showed some scary movies on it. All of the other trick or treaters would come by and most of the kids wanted to sit down and watch the movies. Their parents had to drag them away. We showed a few cartoons first (like Casper the Friendly ghost but when the little ones went to bed we put the big boy movies on. Later on me and some friends went sneaking around in an old cemetery by an old church but we didn't see any ghosts. It was still fun tho. Skywalker gave me the coolest shirt! It is a t-shirt from the original ghostbusters movie from way back when it first came out...and it has a glow in the dark ghost on it!!!!! That is soooooo cool! He said he has another one just like it so now we both have one. I don't know where he gets all this cool stuff but I'm glad he does. Especially when he gives some of it to me! I guess now I have to go back to being sad and miserable until Halloween comes next year. I'm already looking forwards to it tho.

www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/true-nightmares-todd-robbins_us_57f56caae4b002a73120a1a0?section=§ion=us_weird-news ‘True Nightmares’ Revives The Scary TV Days Of Alfred Hitchcock With Real Stories This takes ghostly Halloween tales to a new level.10/06/2016 by Lee Speigel Writer, Editor, The Huffington Post / www.huffingtonpost.com/author/lee-speigelMaster of the macabre Todd Robbins presents true stories of murder and mayhem on Investigation Discovery’s “True Nightmares” series. Need a good night’s sleep? Help is not on the way. Because truth is often more chilling than fiction, and fear can keep you up at night. Take the case of Wallace Souza, who in 2009 hosted a Brazilian TV crime show called, “Canal Livre.” Souza had the good fortune of receiving anonymous phone tips alerting him and the TV station of upcoming murders. He confounded local authorities by getting a TV news truck to the scene of the attacks before they happened and broadcasting live coverage which, of course, boosted his TV ratings, CNN reported at the time. How the unlikely events surrounding Souza unfolded, along with the unusual twist that ends his story, are re-enacted on this weekend’s edition of Investigation Discovery’s “True Nightmares,” a weekly series in its second season of presenting gruesome stories of murder and mayhem based on real events. Harking back to the days of black-and-white TV, when Alfred Hitchcock (”Alfred Hitchcock Presents”), Rod Serling (”The Twilight Zone”) and John Newland (”One Step Beyond”) beamed scary tales into America’s living rooms, “True Nightmares” offers the kinds of stories that have become the stuff of urban legends. These are “nightmares that have already come true,” according to the show’s eerily charismatic host, Todd Robbins. They include a tale of a common medicine that turns out to be a dose of death; the saga of a town haunted by fear; and a peek at TV journalism that redefines the “dead”-line. The opening segment of this week’s episode, “The Story of Wallace Souza,” takes viewers behind the scene of a television show, “Crime Scene Live,” that featured Souza as an on-camera host who received anonymous phone tips about murders that were about to be committed. Local police were baffled whenever they’d arrive at a crime scene, only to discover that Souza’s TV station had beaten them to it and reported the murder live on the air. Here’s a clip featuring a re-enactment of the Souza story: CONTINUE READING: www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/true-nightmares-todd-robbins_us_57f56caae4b002a73120a1a0?section=§ion=us_weird-news

halloweenghoststories.com/ Dancersby William Meikle / www.willie.meikle.btinternet.co.uk Yes, I know its getting dark, and I know its getting cold, but just come over here for a minute. It wont take much of your time. There's something I want to show you, someone I'd like you to meet. Come on. Humor an old man who needs to tell his secret. It's just there, behind the church. Yes, in the older graveyard. You're not afraid are you? I promise, there's nothing here that would ever hurt you. Not you. Watch out for the moss on the stones. Some of the slimier varieties can get embedded in your clothes, and it's murder trying to get it out. Just about there is usually the best spot. Stand quietly now - let your eyes get adjusted to the dark. You'll soon see why I brought you here. There she is. Do you see her? She's standing right there. Look - in front of the large grey angel, just to the left of the patch of moonlight, almost underneath the old elm. Yes, there, beside the largest headstone. My beautiful Sarah. Forever young, forever twenty. See how the red of her hair glows like a burning firebrand, a halo around the white perfection of her face. And look - she's wearing the dress. The one I bought her for the dance, the last dance of our youth. Three pounds two and sixpence that dress cost me - more than a week's wages in those days. Times have changed, haven't they? My mother told me that I was mad, spending all that money on a slip of a girl who was no better than she should be. But I knew that she was worth every penny. I was drunk with the delight that danced in her eyes when she tried it on, swaying her hips to get the full effect from the long flowing pleats. I can still remember even now, fifty odd years and many strangers' kisses later, the sweet honeyed taste of her lips as she thanked me, the pressure of her hands on my back as we embraced. I wish she would touch me now. Just one touch, to bring us together at the end. If only she could see me. I have so much that I've never told her. How still she is, how composed. The wind refuses to ruffle her, the rain refuses to dampen her, the earth refuses to cling to her. Yet there's something more. Look closer. She breathes; she blinks; her lips part and then connect, but there's no steam. Not like you and I, standing here puffing at each other. It may be almost winter here, but for her it's late summer, always summer. Those lips. How deep and red and enticing they were that night, glistening moistly as she looked up at me. Smiling, dancing, laughing, we moved across the dance floor. We were young; the war had barely touched us, and I was in love for the very first time. The night held the prospect of many new pleasures. And then he arrived. I knew he was going to be trouble. Right from the start I could see what he was. American, charming, arrogant and different. Hello excitement, goodbye dependability. In the space of a minute I'd lost her forever. Shall I tell you how it happened? He butted in on our dance. Just barged right in, excused himself, and then off they went, whirling round the floor in a flurry of legs and feet and arms. I tried to stop him as they came round again, but he had all the advantages - height, weight, diet, composure and training - while I merely had my rage. Afterwards, as I lay there on the floor, my tongue counting teeth as my handkerchief vainly tried to soak up blood, I heard a laugh. Looking up through eyes which had already begun to puff up, I saw her. Only six feet away, but already distant, clinging to the conqueror. Her hair made a red scar where it fell on her shoulder, and in that moment I knew what I would have to do. Can you see? She's moving. But watch. Do her legs bend? Does she walk like you or me? Or does she glide, smooth and silent like a great white owl? Listen. Can you hear any gravel being trodden underfoot? Or is there only you and me and silence? You can't tell, can you? She deceives the brain, but doesn't brook too much attention. Try not to look too closely - set your mind on other matters. Ah yes. The chiming. It must be eight o'clock again. Do you think she's able to hear? She'll be heading for the wall. When she reaches it she'll rest her elbows and look over there, to the field on the left, where the airfield used to be. I remember the women, silent, waiting, listening for the sounds which would tell them that their men were coming back. They used to peel off one at a time as the planes returned, until only a few were left, watching and waiting and wondering. See how the moonbeams dance around her, making her glow. So white, so brilliant, so pure. And no shadow to taint the vision. He was corrupting her. I could see that, even from the few glimpses I had of them together. There they were, laughing and giggling like a pair of kids fresh out of school. And kissing! In public! Right there on the main street for all too see, and again, later, in the pub, flaunting themselves in front of me. Of course she had stockings. And lipstick. And chocolate. And cigarettes. The price of her innocence, the wages of sin. I hoped that I wouldn't be too late, that she was still capable of being saved. I watched. I waited. I planned. He continued with her destruction, but soon I'd have my turn. See how she moves between the stones, not attempting to pass through them. Does she look solid to you? You can't see through her, not like in the books or the films. Do you think that if I went over there and put out my hand she'd be able to take it, be able to feel? Would she notice that I was there? I have often, over the years, thought about why she returns. It is only now, when I'm near my own end, that I'm able to look at it dispassionately. Maybe, when I go to join her, we'll both understand. Did you know that I used to be a mechanic? Well I was, and a good one at that. It was easy. I already had the run of the airfield, so it was simple to wangle myself in on the servicing of his plane. Once I had spent five minutes aboard, it was only a matter of waiting for the next flight. I was subtle though. I didn't want the plane blowing up over land; not over England anyway. My work might have been noticed. No, the explosion would occur only when the plane climbed to more than one thousand feet. That should do it. By the time it reached that height it would be well out over the channel. He took it out the very night day. Look. She's reached the wall. See how her elbows stay white, despite the damp and moss and stone? Her eyes will be moist. Will those tears be real? Could I perhaps touch them? Touch them and somehow feel her pain? The next day I saw the flight take off, twelve planes slowly gathering in formation before beginning their long climb into the sky. I watched them until they rose into the clouds, then listened as they droned away. Was there an explosion? Did the droning lessen? I never did find out. Whether I'm a murderer or not, he never came back, and I never lost the guilt. Later that day, when the sky was once more filled with sound, the women left the wall, one by one, until she was the only one remaining, trying to pierce the clouds as she peered avidly eastwards, willing him to return. I stood, just about here, and watched, cursing her for her devotion, cursing him for his hold on her, as darkness fell and the skies grew silent. It was late summer, and the temperature was dropping rapidly. A light drizzle began to fall, chilling me to the bone. And still she waited, and still I watched. See it. There's the cigarette. How ungainly it looks in those pearl white fingers. It burns - there's a good quarter of an inch of ash on the end - but there's no smoke, no smell. He started her off on that habit. She'd told me that morning that she did it because it made her look like a real lady. As if she'd not been a lady before that. It made me angry, so angry that I could watch no longer. See how she turns, surprised. Now she'll look confused for a second. Then she'll see that it's only me; only the young, fresh faced, solid, dependable me. Watch closely now. You may just catch the disappointment as it flits across her face. Look, she turns her back again, returns to her vigil. One look and I was consigned to despair. I grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her around to face me, demanding that she explain herself. She struggled in my arms but I held on as we moved around in a parody of a waltz; held her as she screamed, her once-beautiful lips contorted in rage. She pulled away once more, and this time she was too strong for me to hold on to her. Surprised to be free so easily, she lost her balance. I reached out desperately for her as she fell, slowly, slowly, towards the unyielding gravestones. And then came the sound, the one I hear late at night in my dreams, the sound of her neck as it broke. So now we wait, she for a sweetheart who will never return, me for an end to the guilt and the hope of forgiveness. Which of us is more dead? And the time passes and I watch, every night, as she dances, just for me. © William Meikle Willie Meikle is a Scottish author of supernatural stories. halloweenghoststories.com/real/index.html From: "The Perkins"One day when I was home alone a parcel was left at the door I opened it and there was a box. Inside there were puzzle pieces. I didn't think much of it and left it at that. Later that night when I was in bed and I heard noises outside my window. Scared, I decided to solve that strange puzzle to keep my mind off of the spooky noises. As I was putting it together I realized that the puzzle was of my bed room scared and yet curious I continued to solve the puzzle. Until I noticed that I was in the puzzle solving a puzzle and that there was a tall dark man outside my window holding a knife!! Totally freaked and dazed I looked slowly up at my window and there he was the man from the puzzle looking at me!! I screamed as loud as I could and ran into the lounge and tried to tell mum what had happened. She completely ignored me like I was invisible or something. That was when I realized she COULDN'T see me. Horrified I ran outside only to feel a sharp pain right in my back I turned expecting the man from the puzzle. As soon as our eyes met.........I woke up! I know everyone hates that ending but I cant think of anything else so there! (ha ha) From: "June Fisher"This is a true story. My father died in 1991, three days before Christmas. I was only 7 years old. He died in our house. After that, my mom and two brothers and I would hear strange things like in the hall way at night you could hear someone walking back and fourth. You could also hear some one humming which was what my dad use to do. The cupboards in the kitchen would open up and close. Once I had one of my friends sleep over and I didn't tell them any thing what was happening. We were in my room and my friend said that she heard a noise. I just said you're probably just hearing things. Then my door opened up and slammed really hard. We got up fast and ran to the door to see if any one did that but there was no one there. It was just strange. Then we went back over by my bed and started talking and laughing. We heard someone coming and we thought it was my mom, so we stopped talking. There was no one there again. We just heard foot steps. My friend got scared and said that she wanted to go home and she did. I also have heard violins playing but it was coming from the basement. There was so much stuff happening. There is alot more of things that happened. We moved from that house one year ago. I'm 17 years old now. This is true, everything that I have said. From: AnonymousThis is not a Halloween story but it might has well be. My aunt used to live in this part of Michigan that was kind of out in the country. Well, next to her house is an old cemetery. Also, about half a mile from her house is an old house, and my brother and cousins and I are convinced it's haunted. It's made of a reddish brick, and has shutters that are all closed up, and those black, pointy, fence looking things on the top. There were never any lights on or people around. One day, my brother, my cousins, and I decided to go check it out. We figured we'd walk around the back yard for a few minutes and then leave. That's what we did at first. As it turns out, there was a huge, old barn next to it, and a field. There was an outhouse, too and even one of those things that opens up to a cellar! Well, the door of the shed was open, and it was kind of swaying in the wind. We couldn't resist. My brother went first, and we followed him into the shed. There was another door, and we saw that this door went INTO THE HOUSE! We tried opening it, but it was jammed. Then my cousin saw that it was open about an inch. We pushed on it together and it flew open. I don't know why but we all started screaming and ran out into the yard. I couldn't believe we actually did that. We were just going to go home, but then we thought that we would be wondering forever what would have happened if we hadn't gone in there, so we went back. We were soooo scared. The first room looked like a kitchen, and it had one of those really old stoves, the kind that sits on the ground with a black pipe going through the ceiling. That was my first indication that this house could have been, like, a hundred years old. The floor was starting to creak, which made me say out loud that what if it gave out and we fell down into the cellar??? That made my cousin almost start to cry but we calmed him down. We walked cautiously through the house. There were a lot of small rooms. We didn't dare go down to the cellar. The front door was locked, and bolted and nailed down with boards, as were all of the windows. Did I mention that during this whole thing, we were all REALLY REALLY scared?? Well, we were just about to head back, when my brother saw...a staircase. An old, brown, winding one. OH MY GOD. We discussed whether or not to go up (my brother was the only one who would, but I didn't want him up there alone with the ghosts!) He said he would only go up a few steps to see if he could see anything up there, so we let him. And that's as far as he got. He was on about the 5th step, when we heard a horrible crashing sound from the kitchen. We all started screaming, and ran out of there fast. We didn't bother to shut the door - which was probably our first mistake. We ran back to my aunt's house, past the cemetery. At the time, the only person we told about this, was my aunt. She's cool, and we knew she wouldn't tell anyone what we did. Well, my brother and I eventually had to go home, but this is where it gets weird!! The next day, my mom took us back to my aunt's (my other cousin was going back home to Chicago the next day, and we wanted to see her again before she left). As we drove past the cemetery, I saw something really creepy. There were some men working there, and it looked like they were DIGGING A GRAVE. Now, I don't know if they still used that cemetery, I always thought it was too old to be burying new people there, but we were wondering - were they burying something - or digging something up? We told my aunt about it right away, and she said that there had been a FIRE in the cemetery the night before. Now this was too weird. All of this stuff happened the day after we went there. There were now "no trespassing" signs all over the yard, which meant - someone saw us in there. We don't know who, but all I kept thinking was, what would have happened if my brother had gone upstairs? I guess we owe our lives to that thing that fell in the kitchen! halloweenghoststories.com/real/index.html

apnews.com/1cd197230f064151860e074da56b3bce/Halloween-treat:-a-night-at-DraculaHalloween treat: a night at Dracula's castle in TransylvaniaBy ALISON MUTLER October 17, 2016 BRAN CASTLE, Romania (AP) — Dracula's castle will have overnight guests on Halloween, marking the first time since 1948 that anyone has slept in the Transylvanian fortress. The site's actual name is Bran Castle, and two people will get to sleep there Oct. 31 thanks to a promotion by Airbnb. The guests will be wined and dined, then left alone to lie down in red velvet-trimmed coffins just as Dracula did in the Bram Stoker horror novel that popularized the legend. The castle is famous for its connection to Vlad the Impaler, a real-life prince who stayed there in the 15th century and had a cruel habit of using stakes to impale his victims. Vlad inspired Stoker's story of Count Dracula. The Airbnb contest to find guests for the night launched Monday. Applicants were asked to use their "vampiric wit" to imagine what they'd say to Count Dracula if they met him. Winners will be flown to Romania and then taken to the castle set dramatically in the Carpathian Mountains. If they're too spooked to sleep in the coffins, beds are on hand. The castle is one of Romania's top tourist attractions, with more than 630,000 visitors a year. Hosting the one-off Airbnb event is a descendant of Bram Stoker, Dacre Stoker. "I want to make it both realistic and show the legend in the wonderful country that birthed the whole thing," Stoker said in a telephone interview. He'll play the role of Jonathan Harker, a character from the novel who encounters Dracula at the castle. When the winners arrive in a horse-drawn carriage, he plans to greet them using the same words Dracula used in his ancestor's story: "Welcome to my house! Enter freely. Go safely, and leave something of the happiness you bring!" Stoker added that staging "Halloween night in Dracula castle" was a way of "re-creating the book, and giving people a good experience and a good scare." The winning pair will tour the castle, then be treated to a candlelight dinner of chicken paprikash, the same meal described in the novel. Airbnb's rules for the night are simple: no garlic or silver jewelry — both believed to ward off vampires — and this reminder: "The count is not a fan of mirror selfies." (According to legend, a vampire's image cannot be seen in mirrors.) Bran Castle was originally a military fortress, strategically set on a highway that links Transylvania to southern Romania. Vlad the Impaler did not own the castle, but is believed to have used it briefly during his incursions in Transylvania. He is also believed to have been imprisoned in the castle for two months in 1462 when he was captured by a rival Hungarian king. Vlad impaled his victims as punishment for wrongdoing. His victims reputedly included all the elderly residents of one community to avenge the deaths of his father and brother. Following World War I, the castle was given to Queen Marie in gratitude for her role in unifying Transylvania with the rest of Romania. She bequeathed it to her youngest daughter Princess Ileana. In 1948, the Communists seized it from Ileana. In 2006, years after communism ended, the castle was returned to Ileana's son Dominic Hapsburg, a retired New York architect. His sisters spent their childhood there. A Romanian company manages the castle which is rented for weddings, soirees and corporate events. Hapsburg plays an active role in the site, but nobody has stayed overnight there since Hapsburg and his family were exiled from Romania. The castle is very popular with tourists. "We just love Halloween, so what drew us to Romania was Transylvania," said Gina Ricciardi of Boca Raton, Florida, visiting with her husband and friends. "We wanted to see Dracula's castle and just experience the whole Dracula." Might Count Dracula himself show up on Oct. 31? "Did he really die at end of the novel when he was stabbed with knife? Bram leaves the question ambiguous," Stoker said. "But if he's still floating around, he would make an appearance." apnews.com/1cd197230f064151860e074da56b3bce/Halloween-treat:-a-night-at-Dracula

www.universetoday.com/131397/boo-black-moon-halloween-weekend/ Boo! A Black Moon Halloween WeekendPublished: 25 Oct , 2016 by David Dickinson / www.universetoday.com/author/david-dickinson/This Halloween weekend’s top astronomical event features something that you won’t see in the sky. By now, you’ve probably seen the stories circulating ’round ye ole web about how this month features a ‘Black Moon.’ The internet seems to love promulgating the passing of such curious calendrical oddities as Moons both Black, Blue and otherwise. What’s all of the hoopla about? Well, simply put, the Moon reaches New phase this weekend on October 30th at 17:38 Universal Time (UT), marking the start of lunation 1161. This is the second New Moon for the month, as the first fell on October 1st, just 11 minutes into the month as reckoned in Universal Time. Now, this isn’t at all rare or unusual; the synodic period of the Moon (that is, the time it takes to return to a similar phase, such as New back to New) is 29.5 days long, a period that shoehorns well in to a 31 day month like October, or occasionally, a 30 day month. More Fun With Calendars February is the only month that cannot contain a ‘repeat phase,’ leap year or no. Occasionally, a given phase such as New or Full can be absent from short February all together… sometimes, this oddity is also sometimes referred to as a ‘Black Moon.’ 2014 and 2033 are the nearest years to 2016 that are missing New Moons in February. And then there’s the relict definition of a Blue Moon as the ‘3rd in an astronomical season with 4…‘ that can also be ascribed to a Black Moon as relates to New phase, as if we already lack enough multi-hued Moons in or lives. Keep in mind, the moment of New is but an instant, a point a which the Moon’s longitude along the ecliptic plane equals the Sun’s. The Moon makes a miss of the Sun on most lunations, and only directly passes between the Sun and the Earth during an annular or solar eclipse. We’ve got one each coming up in 2017: an annular solar eclipse crossing the southern tip of South America on February 26th, and the historic return of totality to the United States on August 21st, 2017. Said high profile solar eclipse next August also has a lesser role, as it fits that old-timey definition of the 3rd New Moon in an astronomical season with four. Of course, this is only the juxtaposition of the lunar cycle on our current Gregorian calendar, using time reckoned in UT/GMT. Don’t fear the Black Moon. This year’s New Moon just misses Halloween. The next New Moon on Halloween (which, of course, is always a ‘Black Moon’) occurs in 2035. And we’ll let you in on a secret: astronomers don’t spend nights in mountaintop observatories discussing Black or Blue Moons… the term has more of an astrological tinge to it. Even in amateur astronomy circles, you sometimes hear the term ‘the dark of the Moon’ used to refer to the weeks surrounding New Moon, a prime time for deep sky astrophotography. Looking for a New Moon-related observing challenge? Spotting the razor thin waxing or waning Moon is a fun feat of visual athletics. Look for a thin waning crescent Moon hanging near Jupiter on the morning of Friday, October 28th. This weekend, the first shot at catching the uber-thin Moon occurs for observers along a curve from southeastern Asia at dusk on October 31st westward at dusk. For Spain (and Astroguyz basecamp) the Moon will be 24 hours past New, and for the United States, the Moon will be 28 to 32 hours old at sunset for roaming Halloween ghouls and goblins, an easy catch. First sighting opportunities for the waxing crescent Moon on Halloween evening. Graphic created by the author. A time change is also afoot this weekend, as folks in Europe and the UK ‘fall back’ one hour to standard time. This setback falls nearly as late as it can in 2016, and we now enter that wacky oneeek period where the world slowly slips back to standard time. Blame ‘Big Sugar’ for the latency in most of North America, as prospective trick-or-treaters now make their rounds during daylight hours. In most of the US and Canada, the switch occurs on Sunday, November 6th. And there’s one more astronomical tie-in for Halloween: the holiday traces its roots back as one of the four cross-quarter days of yore, including Lammas Day, Groundhog Day, and May Day. Of course, the fixing of Hallow’s Eve on October 31st makes the midway date only approximate: in 2016, the actual mid-point occurs on November 10th. Out of this world stuff to consider, as you inventory the night’s sugary bounty and contemplate the night sky. www.universetoday.com/131397/boo-black-moon-halloween-weekend/

As I've said..the longer I live the more I realize how very little I know about the world I live in. It takes only an open mind. Tomorrow night is Samhain (sah-win) the night when the veils between worlds is the thinnest. As I've done for many a year..I will light black candles.. "Burning black with any other color dissolves negative energies! Protection, hex-breaking, reversing, banishing, destroying evil or negativity, binding, and repelling. Also used for healing very powerful illnesses" And I will ask for blessings for those of my family or friends who have passed on. I'll ask for protection for my family and prosperity in the year to come. As I always do..I'll ask for God's blessing before I begin because it's my feeling that in God's great universe (s) all that exists is by his hand. Always ask the blessing of the head guy first. It is a day very strong in power. It's always good to remember on this day, those we love who have passed ...and it never hurts to ask for their blessing on the living. Have a wonderful and safe...Halloween/Samhain.
Casper..it's definitely a day to see a ghost or two..if you ask for it.
