www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2013/09/skinwalker-tradition-encounters.htmlTuesday, September 03, 2013 Skinwalker Tradition & Encounters In the American Southwest, the Navajo, Hopi, Utes, and other tribes each have their own version of the Skinwalker story, but basically they boil down to the same thing - a malevolent witch capable of transforming itself into a wolf, coyote, bear, bird, or any other animal. To the Navajo, yee naaldlooshii is "with it, he goes on all fours", a practitioner of Frenzy Way. The witch might wear the hide or skin of the animal identity it wants to assume, and when the transformation is complete, the human witch inherits the speed, strength, or cunning of the animal whose shape it has taken. "The Navajo Skinwalkers use mind control to make their victims do things to hurt themselves and even end their lives," writes Doug Hickman, a New Mexico educator. "The Skinwalker is a very powerful witch. They can run faster than a car and can jump mesa cliffs without any effort at all." The Navajo believe that Skinwalkers have the power to steal the “skin” or body of a person. That if you engage eyes with a Skinwalker they can immerse themselves into your body. Skinwalkers avoid bright light and their eyes glow like an animal’s when in human form. When in their animal form their eyes don’t glow as an animal’s would. In the ancient Hopi culture there was a ritual ceremony once performed, called the Ya Ya Ceremony. In this ceremony, members would convert themselves into assorted animals utilizing the hides from the animal they selected, and the members use certain animals for their attributes. The coyote skin is for high-velocity, precise sense of smell, and the acute agility. The bear skin is for brute force, but not a good choice for speed. When in animal form the Skinwalker will retain their wits and because of this they make a really dangerous adversary. Also unlike the werewolf, they have a whole bag of tricks that includes immobilizing powder, mind control, and even disease. The following narratives are from the many we have received over the years: CONTINUE READING: www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2013/09/skinwalker-tradition-encounters.html

My family always has a peyote meeting on Xmas and on New Year eve. All my cousins and I were sleeping in my mom's hogan while most of our parents and guests were in the tepee praying. They said that a man saw something outside the tepee and he told the Fire Chief, and he told my uncle. My uncle woke up my older brothers and they got out the guns and our spotlight to look for whatever was creeping around our houses. We live in a small valley in the highest part of our part of the rez, near Pinon. All of a sudden I heard a loud gun shot, my brother's 30.30. It scared the Hell out of me since I was fast asleep, but my sister was the only one in the house with us and she already had burned some cedar and had said a protection prayer for us. My brothers and one of my cousins were outside shooting at some sort of creature that was running around in an arroyo about half a mile from our house. My niece and I had gotten out of our beds and were watching from the window. They were sure that they had shot it a few times but it would just get up and run off again. But when my mother and father smeared white ash on the bullets they started shooting again the creature left our valley. It is a very taboo to do any sort of hunting or shooting during blessing ceremonies, but something had to done that time. That is as close as I have ever come to a skinwalker, as far as I know? Anonymous ********** I started dating a beautiful native girl. But there has been some trouble with an ex-boyfriend of hers. And recently strange things have started to happen around my property. I live on a ranch in southern NM, it's pretty isolated. But lately I've started seeing shadows and shapes moving around outside at night. And coyotes, which have never been to much of a problem; have started coming into the yard. I even think I saw one in the house one night, but I can't be too sure. One morning I found a feather laying in front of my door. I quickly called my girlfriend, she told me not to touch it, but wouldn't say why. Can anyone give me any information as to what is going on here exactly. I can't explain it but this is starting to seem like something...out of the ordinary. TT ********** This happened in Vanderwagon, NM. My uncle and I were sleeping when all of a sudden we heard all the dogs bark and we all went outside to see what they were barking at. They were barking at something in the trees since there's a lot trees up there. My uncle was throwing rocks in the trees. After a while the dogs stopped barking and it started to get quiet. When we were about to go back inside we heard the trees rustle and there was no wind. Then we heard this weird sound and it got quiet again. We stayed outside for at least another 30 min and we went back inside and went back to sleep. In the morning we went back outside and saw our chicken pens gates were open and all our chickens and hens were out. We all walked around looking for them and couldn't find any. We went to the where we heard the noise that night and found these weird unexplained footprints. We followed it and it led us to the outhouse (since there is no running water or electricity) and it looked like it had been walking back and forth. Then we went to our chicken pens to see if there were any foot tracks. All we saw was the hens and chickens prints and nothing else. We freaked out. Only a human could open the gate. We told my uncle's mom (my grandma on my moms side) and she blessed us and told us that, that it was a skinwalker. From then on, any noises outside and at night, we yell in Navajo "Go away. Bother someone else". PL ********** The year my husband and I started dating, 'someone or something' did everything they could to keep us apart. It was a summer evening and the sun had started to go down and we took a short stroll just outside my house. As soon as we started walking, I saw a shadow quickly stop and walk behind a huge cedar tree. Once I noticed this I told my boyfriend and he threw a big rock at it. As soon the rock hit the tree, a huge bird or owl flew out of the cedar tree. I have never in my life seen anything this big! The wings on this thing had to have stretched out at least 7-8 feet across. It was dusk, but still enough sun out to see in front of me and I know for a fact I saw something. I believe whatever hid behind that tree turned into a bird and flew off. It was so weird. After that, we had a very unsettling summer of this strange "shadow visitor" making it's appearance every now and then. RR ********** I was visiting my parents in NM one summer. My mom, brother, and I decided to go to my grandma's sheep corral to close the gate. This was at night and near a canyon many people believe was haunted. We traveled to the remote area in the darkness. I was sitting in the middle and really tired when we got there. My brother left the door open and said he was going to be right back as the corral was about 50 feet in front of us. I was dozing when I heard a whistle. I wasn't like a person whistling, it was like a flute. My mom yelled for my brother to get in the small truck we had. I was so scared I couldn't move. My mom said, "Did you hear that?" I said, "Yes, a flute?" We heard it again on the left side of the truck very close. My brother jumped in and we drove off quickly. When we got home my mom told my dad what happened and they had a medicine man bless the area. I still see and hear things at night, but not in the immediate area, just farther away. MM ********** I wonder of this was a dream or if it really happened. It was just me, my little sister, and my cousin. We were watching a movie and I went into the kitchen to get something. And this is at my house. We have a big window in the kitchen that looks out to the backyard. I looked out that window and I saw something. It was on the other house, the roof. I didn't scream, I just watched. It jumped into our backyard. It was creepy because the sun was going down and it was really cloudy. I watched it until my little sister and cousin came in the kitchen. That was when it came closer. I think it saw us because the next thing I knew we were huddled together on the floor and the thing was hanging onto our roof! I don't remember anything after that. We were on our way to Phoenix to pickup my brother. I had a nightmare in the car. I told my mom. She got freaked out but didn't tell me what it meant. We are Zuni, and are really superstitious and everything that we dream of is a sign. I don't know why I was scared. I'm not scared of anything, well except the thought of never getting married and having children. I don't have that immune feeling of fear. Well I just wanted to tell you about my experience. www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2018/08/stalked-by-skinwalker.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters) Thursday, August 16, 2018 Stalked by a SkinwalkerPosted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStrickler I received the following encounter report in September 2014: Hello Lon, I have read several of your articles about strange things here in New Mexico. I live in Gallup, NM which is surrounded by Native American culture and history. We have many nearby towns and reservations that have been here for a very long time and many of the people claim they are haunted. My experience takes place right in Gallup on the east side of the city near a very small reservation. My best friend visited her sister every weekend. She lived in the low rental apartments on the east side. Right across from these apartments is an elementary school, the one I actually attended when I was a little girl. During those weekends I would spend the night with my friend at her sister's apartment. When there was absolutely nothing to do and the kids and parents were asleep, we'd go outside to the park located in the middle of the apartments and hang out. One night we became so bored we actually took off walking. I'd say it was about 2 AM. We were used to being up late and were wide awake. We walked behind apartments where there is no light, tons of bushes and prairie dog holes in the ground. As we were walking, I sensed that someone was staring at us or following us (I am very sensitive, so when I sense someone is looking at me or following me, I'm usually right). I turned around to look and nothing was there. As I turned to look forward, my friend suddenly grabbed my arm and said in a scared whisper, "oh my god what was that?" I looked into the darkness and saw nothing. The wind was blowing lightly and there were a few trees ahead of us, so I passed it off as the wind moving the leaves. I told her "it's just the wind, chill out" and kept walking. But as I looked again, I saw what looked like a black figure moving through the trees. I stopped and said "I think it might be a drunk crashing out back there for the night." Just so I wouldn't scare my friend I kept a calm voice, which was awful hard for me to do because I was sensing that this thing in the trees wasn't good, I said "do you want to go back home?" And she said "no we're almost to the store, let's just keep going." So as we kept walking we heard movement in the trees. We started walking faster. I heard something behind us and I looked, and it was like a wounded or hurt dog. I wasn't really scared because where I live there's a lot of that. But what I heard next stopped me dead in my tracks and paralyzed me. I heard this "dog" moan and growl at the same time as if it was ready to attack. I literally couldn't move and my friend was trying to distract me saying "Come on! Come on! We gotta run!" Her screams sounded distant as if I had gone deaf or if she was far away. I had made eye contact with this thing and I knew that that was a bad move. I closed my eyes and said a short prayer and, without even thinking, I turned around and ran for my life with my friend close by my side. I tried not to look behind us but something was telling me to look. I glanced behind us and a man was running after us! He wasn't just running, he was running on all fours! I screamed and my friend joined in, only because I scared her when I yelled. We finally got to the road where there was light and cars passing. We must have run for about 5 minutes straight and were completely out of breath. I remember our sides were aching and cramping as we stopped to catch our breath. I turned to look behind us and saw the man in the distant darkness running back to where we had come from. We walked a few more minutes until we finally reached to the store. The lady behind the counter gave us a weird look and asked us "are you girls okay?" We replied out of breath "yes, just a late night run." I could tell she didn't believe us, so she asked "did you girls run from the apartments?" I answered "yeah...why?" and she said "Oooh! Are you girls sure your okay?" We looked at each other and my friend told her "well not really, we just had a horrible encounter with something, we don't know what it is or who it was." The lady said "you girls just ran from a skinwalker. Whoever it was always chases someone he catches walking the road at night. You girls are lucky you made it this far!" As if we weren't shaken up already, what she had just told us struck a nerve. I have heard similar tales from my grandmother. We didn't have any money but she offered us a bottle of water and a ride back home. She closed down the store and we got into her pickup. As we passed the bushes and trees where we had previously come from, we both saw something running. The lady told us to ignore it and close our eyes. We finally entered the apartment complex and she asked us "which is yours?" I pointed in the direction of our apartment. As we were getting out of the pickup she told us "you girls stay home at night now. There's no need for you two young girls to be running around at 2 in the morning. Keep yourselves safe, you hear?" We nodded and said goodbye and thank you. After that night we never left the apartment complex after it turned dark. To this day I am still shook up about what I had experienced that night and I still don't really know what it was that chased us that night. www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2018/10/possible-skinwalker-accounts.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters) Wednesday, October 03, 2018 Possible 'Skinwalker' AccountsPosted by Lon Strickler / plus.google.com/+LonStrickler I recently found the following strange accounts: I live in a suburban neighborhood with lots of large trees. Even before too late in the day, it gets pretty dark and moody. My mom sent me on an errand once to stop by a friend’s house down the street and pick up some things. The route takes me through a stretch of road that has some parked cars on either side of the street. It was 6, early evening. About 15 minutes into my walk, I saw a little kid (not sure if it was a girl or boy) riding a bike in my direction from the opposite end of the road. I also happened to see that sitting by one of the parked cars ahead of me was a skinny, black dog. It was large and slender looking, like a greyhound, but also shaggy. The dog just seemed to be sitting there, looking in the kid’s direction. It didn’t seem to have noticed me, so I just walked forward to fulfill my errand. It wasn’t until I was some 10-15 feet away that I realized something was not right with this animal. It remained seated on its haunches, but it was now very clear to me that its back legs were much too long for its body --- folded in an unnatural way. But more disturbing than that was what it was doing with its front paws. This is something I will never forget seeing. The dog’s forelegs were positioned in front, where they should have been, but I stopped in my tracks when I realized that the paws were patting the ground in unison. Kind of like the way you feel for lost keys in a blanket. The dog seemed to be drumming the ground in anticipation...or excitement. Or it was pretending to be a dog with its paws on the ground. And it was looking at this clueless child heading its way. I must have made some sort of sound even as I was frozen in place because the patting stopped, and this thing slowly got up on its back legs and stood up, like a man. It was easily 6 feet tall, maybe more. I turned around and began to sprint home. I had my back to it, but I knew it was looking at me now. So I just got out of there. To this day, I don’t know what happened to the little kid. johnamorTK ********** This happened about 18 years ago. Damn I feel old. But I was living with my grandmother on the Navajo reservation. Her house was between two know unmarked cemeteries. Anyways, one night she was out at bingo and my cousin Matt was in charge of watching me that night. I was in the back of the house watching tv when the dogs began to howl soon after I heard a thud on the roof. Confused and freaked out I jumped up and backed away from my window and listened. The dogs were going ballistic outside (howling, growling and barking) that’s when I had enough and started to walked towards the front of the house where the living room and Matt were located. Whatever was on the roof began to mirror my movement and was following me directly above. I bolted to the living-room and yelled at Matt! He turned off the tv and we listened....something was walking in circles on the roof and wanted us to know it was there. Matt being a traditional native began to pray. After a few minutes of torment, matt instructed me to follow him outside onto the porch. At this point matt yelled at the thing to leave. Whatever it was ran towards the back of the house, jumped off and landed with a loud audible thud and began running towards the neighbors trailer. The neighbors horses got uneasy and began freaking out in their stables. Meanwhile, the neighborhood dogs were in pursuit. They followed it east and down the trail out of earshot. Hands down the most terrifying skinwalker experience of my life. nezzzzd88 ********** So last night me and my wife were traveling back from the Grand Canyon to Texas and decided to drive through the night. We ended up going through the Gila national forest between 11pm and 2am I think. We saw lots of wildlife throughout the night but we expected this and just drove extra cautiously. Well between 12am and 1am we came around a turn and were met with what looked like 3 black panthers with glowing yellow eyes that seemed to pierce through your soul. It’s hard to explain unless you were there to see it. It happened very quick but as soon as we pasted them we both said what the *bleep* was that. It was very strange because even with the bright lights of the car shining directly on them they still looked dark as night and all you could see was the outline of them and those soul piercing eyes. They did not move an inch and just stared right into our eyes. It was very scary and we tried to play it off as wolves or something but after doing some research I’m not sure what we saw. Any insight would be greatly appropriated. This is my first post but I have to find out more. I can’t get those eyes out of my head. flubabluba ************* www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2018/10/possible-skinwalker-accounts.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+PhantomsAndMonstersAPersonalJourney+(Phantoms+and+Monsters)

www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/07/my-skinwalker-experiences.html#.XR3-bOqjM1s.twitterThursday, July 04, 2019 My 'Skinwalker' ExperiencesPosted by Lon Strickler / I recently received the following account: Growing up, I lived in Northeastern Arizona. Literally about 5 miles south of the Navajo reservation in Winslow. Naturally, being that close to the reservation (or “The Rez”) skinwalkers were a HUGE topic of conversation amongst the locals and we all took it very seriously. Stories of personal experiences abounded. I was no different. My family had gone camping in a little spot about 50 miles or so south of town called Hart Canyon, near Wiggins crossing (if anyone is interested). We had been there all day and I was extremely familiar with the area as we had camped there 20 or so times before. So my parents let me just wander about alone in the woods. This was back in the early 90’s. Anyway, I had some G.I. Joes that I had been playing with in the nearby creek. About 80 yards from our campsite. There were not other campers there with us. My mom had called me back to camp for dinner, so I left and ate. Played around camp for a while and realized that I’d forgotten my toys back at the creek. So I took a flashlight and headed back that way. I knew right where I had left them so in no time I found them and grabbed them up. As I was squatted down to grab them on the edge of the water, a sudden urgency that I’d never felt before ran down my spine. I remember feeling frozen because of the fear. Like the little boy on ET when the alien comes out of the field for the first time and he’s trying to scream for his family. I looked up and pointed my flashlight to the other side of the creek and about 10 yards down the way. I saw something. At first I thought it was a deer. But it was standing up. So I thought it may be a bear. But it was too skinny and not enough poofy hair. It skunked behind a tree, and peered out slightly at me. I seriously was too scared to move. I had just read a bit about Bigfoot for the first time, since it wasn’t really popular in my area. I thought for a long time that that’s what I saw. I finally had seen enough to gather my wits and scrammed as fast as I could back to camp. I told my parents and they kind of dismissed it as my imagination. So I just stayed close the rest of the trip. About 2 years later, I was at my house. I had two dogs. They were outside dogs, lived their whole lives in my backyard. One night they went psycho. Barking at first at something in the alley behind my house, then they both started whimpering. I had my window open slightly and one of my dogs straight up jumped up to the window, frantically CHEWED THROUGH THE SCREEN of the window, forced its way into the house and would not leave the house for 3 days. Another time when I was about 13. We used to play night games in the town. Mostly - there being nothing much else to do - we would walk around our neighborhood and act suspicious so the cops would come chase us around. And we run down the alleyways and hop into random folks backyards to hide. Now, it was extremely common to see an intoxicated Navajo or Hopi in the alley. So it was no big deal to see one in the alley behind my house that night as we (we being 2 of my friends and myself) ran from a police car hot on our tail. We saw him plain as day standing in our way. We ran around him and jumped into the nearest yard to hide. We waited for the cop to pass us and hopped back out. Literally about 3 minutes went by. We ran back the way we came and as we got to the point where the drunk man had been, he was gone! In his place was a coyote sitting there watching us. We ran right past it. Feet from it. And anyone who knows coyotes knows they will bailout WAY before you get close to them. This bugger held his ground and calmly sat and watched us run past him. We all freaked out and stayed inside for a month. My last experience was when I was about 15 or 16. My brother has a girlfriend that lived in a small community south of Winslow called Starlight Pines. About 25 miles-ish. Well, we went to go see her one day. And as we drove out, about 15 miles out we saw a native guy standing on the side of the road. This was quite odd because the Rez was north of town and it was rare to see anyone on foot south of town because it’s just desert and forest for literally 80 miles. Anyway, we see this guy, he looked normal enough. Flannel shirt. Jeans. We got to our destination and hung out with my brother's girlfriend and her family well into the night when we decided to head back home. Hopped in his truck, a Chevy S10, and drove back the way we came. In the same spot we saw the native dude, he was still there! I remember thinking, that dude is crazy standing out there all day and into the night, what’s he doing? Right as we passed him we hear a loud BANG on the back of the truck. At first I thought we hit an animal but I hadn’t felt anything that we’d run over. I turned around and looked out the back window. My brother started to slow down, thinking there may be something wrong with the truck. In the brake lights I see the native guy chasing after us! We are easily going 55 to 60 at this point as we were about to stop. The guy is in the road, FEET behind us! I scream at my brother to not stop! 'Gun it, man! Gun it!!' He does and being a Chevy S10 it had a speed governor on it at 80. 2 miles! This guy keeps up with us. We are seriously freaking out! I asked my brother what if we don’t make it back to town or what about when we have to slow down once we get close? After those two miles that stretched forever, I looked back and he was gone!! We got home, booked it into the house and told our parents. Next morning, I get up to head somewhere and look at my brother's truck thinking about the night before. I wondered what the loud bang was just before we started getting chased. Inspecting the truck, I found a handprint smeared in the dust from about 2/3 over to the right then smeared to the right taillight. I never went there again. Sorry it was so long. But those are my experiences with what I’m convinced were skinwalkers. AMA www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2019/07/my-skinwalker-experiences.html#.XR3-bOqjM1s.twitter
