Spoat

She said that I had always been the strangest one of all of her children.
She said when Theresa and Chuck reached the age that she could take them shopping with her she'd offer to pay her friend Pearl whom owned the beauty parlor in 1404 to watch me.
Pearl most of the time would not take the money saying,
"Spoat (Sport)" as she called me, "is such a quiet baby that he really is no problem, he normally just sleeps till you get back anyway."
Then suddenly, as I got a little older Pearl's attitude started to change.
She seemed to become a bit nervous about baby-sitting me.
When Mother finally asked her what was wrong?
She said, "Mattie it's Spoat, he does funny things with his eyes."
"Funny things with his eyes?" Mother said she asked her, "What kind of funny things with his eyes does he do?"
"Mattie sometimes he gets real quiet... I mean real, real, quiet, too quiet!
So I'll go to check on him and he'll be laying there, or standing there holding on to the bed rails grinning at me with his eyes rolled up to the top of his head.
Mattie I mean it, you don't see nothing but the white of his eyes!"
We both laughed about it, but some years later my Aunt Ruth told me as a baby she had seen me doing the same thing.
Anyone that ever heard about, or witnessed this behavior in a child,
please share it here or email me.
