Is the truth really out there? When it comes to UFOs the jury is still out on that one, however, there are quite a few believers among us and we're not talking about Fox Mulder, the much-beloved "X-Files" character.
UFO of course stands for the generic term, unidentified flying object. The term was coined in 1953 by the United States Air Force to basically describe any thing that was observed flying in the sky that didn't have an official name or purpose. Yet, to the general public, UFO came to refer to aliens visiting from another planet. UFO sightings were reported in the United States as early as 1897.
So, are UFOs the stuff science fiction is made of or reality? Well, it depends on who you ask. Yet, UFOs remain a hot storyline in many television series, books and movies. The science fiction genre is extremely popular as is the wealth of books written on the subject of UFOs.
