During my wanderings, I ran into this article and while I usually won't post from 'UFO' sites, this one was interesting to me..so I included it It's a reprint of an older article. A Brief account of the true nature of the "UFO entities" From Flying Saucer Review Vol. 29, No. 5 "They are inveterate liars and deceivers, and delight in bamboozling and misleading mankind with all manner of nonsense." www.meta-religion.com/Secret_societies/Conspiracies/UFO_MIB_Black/true_nature_of_the_UFO.htm

Maybe Leprechauns..or elves or trolls. In some cultures it just seems they are critters not understood and end up woven into the local mythology. I think some countries are just much more allowing of what we might call fantasy. Genies and Jinns, and demons and banshies and leprechauns..are big parts of those cultures. We have big foot, the Jersey Devil and Santa but it doesn't feel the same to me. Our critters don't have that 'old world' feeling to them Some how that's a bit sad to me. We're all modern and shiny metal and cold plastic..they have character. We lose

Emma Bull wrote a great sci-fan book called War of the Oaks. In it, a young woman is approached or accidentally sees old world fairies and such and is drawn into a struggle that is playing itself out in America. They explain to her that they came with the Welsh miners who came to Virginia but that not enough people believe in them anyone and they cannot mannifest without that energy. This is a similar theme in Neil Gaiman's Gods of America in which Lokki and such are here and doing wht they do (fool humans and make crooked bargains)..
I love thinking that Rumi was involved in the Djinn. I love Cole Barks' translation of Rumi. The way he describes his relationship to his God is incredibly sensual and sexual. Maybe for him it was!!!
