Yesterday. I was driving a friend home after a pleasant unhurried afternoon of shopping in a nearby town ( post Xmas sales doncha know?).
We had just turned off the main road and were on a winding section that connects with the off highway area she lives in. Trees, no traffic, small homesteads. It had been pouring and I was quite attentive to my driving - slowing down in anticipation of water pooled on the highway, etc. I had had two cups of coffee. I was well rested. I have a reason for reporting these details.
Suddenly I felt totally remote from my driving. I couldn't feel my hands on the wheel and I had a sensation like the SWOOP one gets when the rollercoaster starts down. I said nothing to my passenger - I didn't want to alarm her. Many thoughts crossed my mind. "Am I having a stroke or some sort of cardiac event?" "Should I pull over?" (no shoulder of course).
The sensations came in waves. I'd almost "stagger" then regain full control and then it would happen again. I felt like I was fighting to maintain my consciousness! Against???
As we passed the wooded area and got onto a more lived on road everything went back to total normality. I was willing to pull off and call 911 if it reoccurred but it did not. I had checked my blood pressure that morning in the drug store and it was in normal range. I had had a small non-sugared lunch that was still sustaining me.
For sure if this happens again I will mention it to a doctor. But I have to say, it felt (subjectively) like it was externally caused. I was beamed or scanned or drove past something that wasn't about me but affected me. I have on ocassion felt odd while driving - it was on my very long solo trip from Texas to Canada in 76. This was "louder". My friend was chattering away so I know she didn't feel what I did. I didn't WANT to pull over there and be immobilized. Donno...
