Things to put in California survival kit. Paddle board or boat, check. Fishing gear (to catch fish from off the roof of where you may be staying for a month or so), check. Everything you might conceivably need that you usually can just go and get - medication, food, water and water purifying stuff, bedding, more clothes, things to trade for other things you forgot - tobacco, drugs and alcohol...
For the so inclined: gun and ammo, extra D/A....
It's hard to say where on this planet is "safe". I bet the people in Queensland (farmers) thought that bugs and a little too much rain or hail and fluctuations in the market was the worst case scenario. Having one's farm and buildings completely under water - a quantum jump of problems. Having a multi-million dollar mine under water.....
You can't say its boring...

Well...every cloud has some silver lining I'll bet it drowned a bunch of the famous venomous beasties down under. Hope something good came of it.

Jo, .. I sure hope nothing like this does happen. I have a sister and a close friend who live out there also.. I guess one could be prepared for such a terrible event. I mean like Paulette has stated. She had a good list made out of useful things..
Have you ever seen such a storm of great magnitude as long as you have lived there??
My sister has been in a few quakes, but she is 82 years old now.. So more years to account for.
I'm going to keep my eyes open on this for any updates that may come out.. I'm sure it is only speculation as it did say over 200 years also..

Typically Lois every 12 years or so we have a series of strong storms come in. The 5 damns spill, streets get flooded and then it's pretty dry for the next 12 years. This year has been notably different. We had a very short mild summer and we've already had enough rain to fill the dams. I suspect more will come. Weather patterns are unusual this year but I've never seen anything close to a super storm..and I've never been in a quake. Oh I've felt minor rocking but never more than that. I've been very fortunate
