This “bold new social experiment” will take place on Friday, June 29 to coincide with the premiere of the new NatGeo series Chasing UFOs. Beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET, Twitter messages tagged with the #ChasingUFOs hashtag will be collected and beamed into space on Wednesday, August 15 from from the Arecibo radio telescope located at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. This telescope has a diameter of one-thousand feet, and is the world’s largest ground-based telescope. As Business Wire explains, the August 15 transmission date will be the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Wow! signal. The Wow! signal was a radio signal detected by Dr. Jerry Ehman on August 15, 1977 with Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope. This signal, named after Ehman’s reaction, was “so strong that it catapulted the Big Ear’s recording device off the chart,” according to the Big Ear’s website. (Credit: NatGeo) NatGeo postulates that the Wow! signal could have been “a cosmic ‘tweet’ from our nearest neighbors.” The June 29 Twitter event will essentially serve as a reply to the Wow! signal. If you want to send a message to potential extraterrestrial eavesdroppers, you can participate live, or go to the Chasing UFOs website now and schedule your tweet in advance. How about if we say. "Don't listen to all those other people...they don't know what they are talking about." ;D

I think we should say, " Please find our scientist named Neil Tyson DeGrassi and tell him you exist, oh and bring an ashtray". lol

If you go to the natgeo site there is a lot of info there on ufo's in history, wonder if this is part of the quiet disclosure??? :/ It's worth checking out anyway, neat stuff there...too bad I don't have satellite.

Interesting that after years of denial about any alternative history and mocking of all ancient astronaut theories (without even proving a shred of evidence to counteract such theories), now they are teamed up with the SETI disinformation program to support: they are out there somewhere, but not here, so lets beam junk into space.
I assume volumes will be sent and some secret team will analyze who said what.

I'm not convinced we need to tell anyone we're here. We don't know what we're inviting

I think that they all know we are here and have for ages.

Probably true. If we can see planets around stars zillions of miles away with our primitive technology than any advanced alien race would definitely notice all of our radio signals, lights, nuclear explosions and satellites that we have zipping all over the place. Sending any type of signal to them would be like somebody trying to contact annaD using smoke signals.

The other side of it, is at light speed, the message will reach Alpha Centauri in 4 years. We do not know if nuclear bombs have an associated graviton expulsion, nor if that would be faster than light. The limit on light velocity is debated in physics, but is convenient for the people who say they couldn't get here from there, but we know they are here and have been.

An intentional message from earth might mean (to them) that we are ready publically to open dialogue. A step in the process of growing up as a planetary culture. Unless it says, as a T shirt I saw once said, "OK you've been here - now go home!"
Which of course we have no ability to make happen as UFOs can fly circles around the fastest air craft we have.

I'm not sure were at any level to have dialog with other species. By far and large we're still a greedy conniving race and IF they have been hanging around awhile..they already know this. Ask most people what they think of aliens coming here and the first thing they think of are possible benefits to us. What technology..what medical cures..what wonderful things they can do for us. But on another level..we don't understand what might be outside of our own little orbit. Races that might look at us as slaves or food sources..the planet might be a wash but we have the resource of billions of people. We might be inviting hostile critters that haven't been schooled in our 'moral' camp. The grey's might not be the worst kids on the block and we're still here stuck thinking that others think....as we do. I remember on the 'other' forum there was a person who chatted now and then..convinced that this amazing alien race was in contact and that they were building a brand new body to transfer her consciousness into. One that never would age and of course...would be beautiful. The funny thing was...the aliens weren't human in appearance. Who would the body be for ..since the person was going with them? Is that what we want from some super race...a way to cheat death, to end our disease and famine and cure the planet we've tried so hard to destroy? Do they have gold? Could they take us away from here so we don't have to be afraid any more? We want want want...so what do we have to give?

what i am amazed at is ... we send VOYAGER 1 & 2 out into the universe describing us & our beautiful planet ... an open invitation to the aliens... & when they show up we declare them hostile & shoot at them... i think we're scarier than the aliens observing us...

So the question becomes: what do we have to give?
They have been very patient as they goad us to evolve faster than we might naturally. They are doing the work of getting here. The other question that seems to be logical is what do they want from us and when will we be ready.

Personally I think they are observing. With so many different races here..genetic differences..blood types..is it possible some entire star system was going to explode eons ago and the peoples of several planets were put here to prevent total extinction? That might answer a lot of questions. Do all planets have multiple races, or is earth unique in this? Was there some old old super race that could do this and now others come to see the monkeys? I think..possibilities are endless. What disturbs me..is that the 'ruthless' quality that humans seem to have is pretty standard fare in all of the races...along with ambition, greed and cruelty. These are all things most of us try to rise above. Is this because we're a young race (by other standards) or is it something normal throughout space. If it is..we might not want to meet the ones who have had time to hone it.

The races on Earth have extremely small genetic differences. Appearances are deceiving, but mother to mother mitochondria DNA shows that we diverged from a common ancestor mother a hundred or two hundred thousand years ago. What manipulation has occurred and whether it has occurred in all races equally is a huge question. Are they inserting desirable strands of DNA code from other old races? What is the goal of the human experiment?
The fact that humans are ruthless is interesting, that is why we dominate and are killing the planet. If this was inserted into our DNA, then why? I would thing the dinosaur predators were more ruthless. At least a percentage of humans are compassionate. It appears that the common person are becoming more compassionate, but that might just be my perspective.
I am sure the aliens in there many bases here on Earth and the local solar system know that NatGeo is part of the governments attempt to assure people they are out there and not here (in numbers). It shows the government is becoming increasingly desperate to keep their secrets (and funding), without revealing that they have no control over the situation. We live in interesting times.
