In Mathews County Virginia there is a wooded area on the Chesapeake Bay known as Old House Woods. For many years now people daring to venture into those woods have claimed to see ghostly pirates, Spanish explorers, British redcoats, headless dogs and cows and an old woman spirit who appears and warns others of storms. There has also been reports of ghostly sailing ships out on the bay near these woods.
We went there once in the late 70s and saw none of these, but experienced something weird when looking across a small, marshy salt pond and for a short time saw a grassy and sparsely forested depression where thick pine woods and the Chesapeake Bay should of been all the while noticing how the summer temperature dropped, feeling as if it was about 60 or less outside. Looking behind us and then ahead again, we saw the pine woods and bay. That was enough for us three to take leave of those woods.

Welcome to TEOR and thanks for sharing Fisher. The temperature change you mentioned reminds me of a place we have here in Southwest Missouri called High Point on Stockton lake. I have went fishing there many times throughout the years with several different people and all of us have felt a sudden temperature change in several spots within about a 50 ft. radius. I have watched people playfully walk in and out of them with surprise expressions on their faces. My son was sort of skeptic when I first showed him this place and when he stepped into it, his face lit up like this ;D. Cliff

Something's up with it for sure, lol. I have been meaning to go back there and take temperature readings during the summer. I think I mentioned this on the forum before about this area and I don't know what to think of it. There is an old abandoned church/school and cemetery that dates way back just down the gravel road from that location. I'm sure it was a gathering place for many people even back then including native Americans because there are artifacts everywhere.
It's a place I've went to many times in the past back in the middle of nowhere to find peace and serenity. It's beautiful country. To be honest, sometimes after the sun sets shadows can play tricks on a persons eyes at this place.
