The Grey's Anatomy
Aliens seem to come in all shapes in sizes, from miniature elf-like creatures to mechanical robots and giant hairy Bigfeets. Many of them are humanoid in general build while others are totally unlike anything ever seen before on Earth. Considering the vastness of the universe there probably is no shortage of different extraterrestrial designs.
The most common type recently reported is what has come to be known as the Gray--small humanoid creatures with large pear-shaped heads, big, black slanted eyes and gray-colored skin from whence they get their name. Even these are not always uniform in appearance. Some are shorter than the average human while others may tower up to seven feet or more. Some reportedly have only three fingers while others have four or more. In spite of these variations they do have a tendency to share many features.
This is not really surprising since humans have evolved along those same lines here on Earth. People are all related to one another and share certain similarities but still possess certain differences such as height, weight, skin color, coarseness of hair etc...
We are all still homo sapiens and we evolved our human characteristics to help us thrive here on our home environment.
Given the similarities that exist in the evolutionary characteristics of both humans and Grays I was wondering what we might be able to infer about them and their home world by looking at their physical and behavioral characteristics.
For example, if we look at the large, black eyes of the typical gray and compare them to large-eyed animals here on Earth we might be able to assume that they are nocturnal creatures or possibly even subterranean. Or maybe it might be that their home planet is further from the sun or has a thicker atmosphere that allows less sunlight to shine through. Any one of those could be an explanation for why they grays have such large eyes.
The color of their skin is another example that fits in with the large eyes. Nocturnal creatures, or those that live in low-light conditions generally have a lighter skin coloration than those that live in regions of bright sunlight. The extra pigmentation is necessary to block the harmful ultra-violet rays from the sun. A being that is not exposed to as much sunlight would therefor have a lighter coloration of skin.
Putting these two things together we could therefor reasonably assume that Grays live in a low-light environment. Of course I realize that this is not an exact science and we are only thinking hypothetically here but it might be interesting to see what else we might assume about our pale-skinned alien visitors.
I would like to get a discussion going about what else we might be able to infer about them. Does anybody else have any other ideas or suggestions?
