Meteorite Hits Central Russia,More Than 1000 People Injured CHELYABINSK, Russia (Reuters) - More than 1000 people were injured when a meteorite shot across the sky and exploded over central Russia on Friday, sending fireballs crashing to Earth, shattering windows and damaging buildings. People heading to work in Chelyabinsk heard what sounded like an explosion, saw a bright light and then felt a shockwave according to a Reuters correspondent in the industrial city 1,500 km (950 miles) east of Moscow. A fireball blazed across the horizon, leaving a long white trail in its wake which could be seen as far as 200 km (125 miles) away in Yekaterinburg. Car alarms went off, windows shattered and mobile phone networks were interrupted. Continue Reading :news.yahoo.com/possible-meteor-shower-reported-eastern-russia-052833588.html

I just read that today another meteorite may have exploded over Cuba near a town called Rodas. Witnesses reportedly claimed they saw a light "the size of a bus" that then exploded into a light even brighter. Shock waves then shook the area and broke windows in some people's houses.
I'm still trying to verify whether or not this is an accurate report.

Here is a video of the Russian meteor. I don't know if anybody has already posted this or not because my stupid computer won't let me see any videos on the forum for some reason. That blast was huge!!

Here is a map showing the general location of the Valentines Day Meteor compared to the Tunguska site. They are almost completely even with one another at roughly the same latitude. It's interesting they would both explode over Russia so close to one another.

It seems that the meteor over Cuba has been confirmed by multiple sources. It's not exactly easy to get info out of Cuba.
I also heard a report of another small meteor over Japan on the 13th. That makes three of them in three days.
That one over Russia was pretty good sized. I don't think I have ever heard of anything like that happening during my lifetime. Not that I know of anyway. The Tunguska event is the last one I know of to cause major damage.

"NASA scientists estimate that meteors as large as Friday's might hit the Earth every decade or two, while Tunguska-like events are estimated to occur once every 1,000 years."
from cnn.com _______________________________________________
Ok, amid all the chatter about this meteor, I'm looking for someone that knew it was coming. . . Do we see these coming??

Nobody saw the one that exploded over Russia. It was too small and moving too fast to be detected. The ones that we are able to spot are the really big ones like the one that zipped by yesterday. If that one had hit it really would have caused some major damage...much worse than what happened in Russia.

I've seen one during daylight hours. It wasn't as bright as the one in Russia but it was beautiful and memorable. It broke up in smaller particles above me as it entered the atmosphere. I was doing daylight obsrvations of Venus, Mars,Jupiter, and Saturn with a small 50 mm refractor. It left a trail behind it. I was about 12 years old at the time. What a sight and awesome memory !

The Tunguska event is the last one I know of to cause major damage. I heard there was a bright fireball over San Francisco that night also. I'm starting to think that Yeomans guy from NASA is right when saying it wasn't related to the asteroid because of the differences in trajectory which I have now found out. That would mean it was a sporadic bolide. The asteroid came from the South and went North. The meteor went from East to West. I'm still not %100 convinced though and neither is many others within the Astronomical community that I've been speaking with and reading reports from that the two aren't related. I've heard it from both sides. One of the best ideas I've heard yet is to wait it out and see if meteorites are found and then determine a link with the composition from the spectra analyzed from both the meteorite and the asteroid to compare elements.

bigstory.ap.org/article/russian-scientists-recover-meteor-fragments Russian scientists recover meteor fragments[/color] By VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV Feb 18, 2013 In this photo distributed by the Urals Federal University Press Service a researcher examines pieces of a meteorite in a laboratory in Yekaterinburg on Monday, Feb.18, 2013. Researchers from the Urals Federal University, based in Yekaterinburg, have determined that the small stone-like pieces found near Lake Cherbarkul in the Chelyabinsk region are pieces of the meteorite that exploded over the region Feb. 15. A total of 53 pieces have been brought for analysis to the university in Yekaterinburg. The largest one is one centimeter in diameter, the smallest is about one millimeter. (AP Photo/ The Urals Federal University Press Service) MOSCOW (AP) — Scientists have found more than 50 tiny fragments of a meteor that exploded over Russia's Ural Mountains, and preliminary tests are turning up information about its contents. However, local residents seem more interested in the black market value of the fragments. As they search for their own pieces of the meteor, sales offers already are filling the Internet, and police are warning all purchasers to prepare for possible fraud. The meteor — which injured nearly 1,500 people and caused widespread property damage in Chelyabinsk city on Friday — was the largest recorded space rock to hit Earth in more than a century. Health officials said 46 of the injured remain hospitalized. Viktor Grokhovsky, who led the expedition from Urals Federal University, said Monday that 53 fragments of the meteor have been plucked from the ice-covered Chebarkul Lake. He said they are less than a centimeter (half an inch) in size, about 10 percent iron, and belong to the chondrite type, the most common variation of meteorites found on Earth. Friday's meteor left a six-meter-wide (20-foot-wide) hole in the ice covering the lake. Divers inspecting it have found nothing at the bottom, but Grokhovsky said a fragment as large as 50-60 centimeters (20-24 inches) could eventually be found there. Meanwhile, workers in the city remained busy replacing acres of windows shattered by a powerful shockwave caused by the meteor's strike, which NASA said released 500 kilotons of energy, the power equivalent to more than 30 Hiroshima bombs. Here are a few videos that the people on the ground in Russia managed to record. Can you imagine if this had happened back in the 1980s during the Cold War? I bet every nuclear missile on the planet would have been launched in retaliation. That's probably what the people on the ground were thinking that it was too.

Nice. That dude was definitely in the right place at the right time. Those photos were excellent too which is just what you would expect from a professional photographer. Notice that the camera wasn't shaking and he wasn't pointing it at his feet or drop it or say a bunch of cusswords the way normal people do when they see UFOs. Too bad professional photogs are never in the right place at the right time when UFOs appear.

www.latest-ufo-sightings.net/2013/03/ufo-is-thought-to-have-saved-thousands.htmlSunday, March 3, 2013 UFO Is Thought to Have Saved Thousands of Lives in Central RussiaMany UFO enthusiasts claim an unidentified flying object rescued their lives from falling meteor that streaked across the metropolis of Chelyabinsk in central Russia few weeks ago. The large piece of rock from space exploded about a dozen kilometres over Earth but the shockwave from the blast hurt nearly 1,200 individuals and created roughly $33 million worth of damages, local government have reported. The incident was recorded by a range of spectators with several people pinpointing a UFO that they claim struck into the meteorite, prompting it to blow up. Referring to video recording of the incident, Alexander Komanov of the Russian UFO community in Yekaterinburg said that it is clear how an (unidentified flying) object blasts the meteorite... the (UFO) flies into it - and the meteorite blows up before it reaches Earth. Mr Komanov also says there was an increase of UFO sightings in the community days prior to the meteorite explosion in the earth's atmosphere. The meteor is believed to have exploded over the Ural mountains, resulting 100,000 tonne rock to crash-land on earth and produce a large hole in Lake Chebarkul in the Chelyabink area. Researchers have discovered over 50 little pieces of the meteor and divers are trying to collect a number of lumps of the meteorite from Lake Chebarkul for study purposes. www.latest-ufo-sightings.net/2013/03/ufo-is-thought-to-have-saved-thousands.html

I read about this yesterday! I wonder if it really was a UFO, the video didn't seem very convincing but that's not to say it didn't happen the way they think it did either.

I just found a book about the Tunguska explosion that I have had for years and years and never got around to reading because I totally forgot I had it ( : and I am seeing a lot of similarities between what happened back then and the meteor that just exploded over Russia. For instance, eye-witnesses (or ear-witnesses) in Russia reported that there were several very loud booming sounds that came one after another. While watching the videos of the Russian meteor I also heard several loud booms rather than just one big boom. I'm not sure what exactly it is that caused that acoustical phenomenon but both events were similar. Another similarity is the shock wave that blew out windows and knocked people off their feet. This was also similar in both incidents with people reporting the same things happening. The only remnants so far found of the recent Russian meteor are very small metal fragments. They have not yet discovered any large chunks of it. It's like the thing just disintegrated when it blew up. That also apparently is what happened to the Tunguska meteor since very little of it has been recovered either. Some of the local people reported finding small pieces of silvery metal but that is it. Another possible similarity is the reports of UFOs in association with both meteors. There are reports that claim that the recent meteor was either intercepted or shot down by a UFO. Supposedly (although I am still trying to confirm it) there were also increased reports of UFO activity in the Tunguska area in the days leading up to the explosion. I remember reading that statement in the book I am reading I just can't remember what page it is on. I'll find it though even if I have to go back and read the thing all over again.

Interesting, and just to add some more mystery to this, I was watching a video last night (that I've seen before but wanted to re-cap) called Out of the Blue. About 35 min. in there's this part about a video via telescope being taken for a missile launch practice in the military and they happened to catch a ufo shooting the h*ll out of this missile going I don't know how super fast but fast! And the higher ups calling this guy in and showing him what he got on film and then cutting that part out and saying this never happened , don't tell anyone ever... sooo I was thinking, "holy crap, this HAS happened before with fast flying objects so why wouldn't they be able to do it to a meteor too" So, now I am leaning towards "this really happened" a LOT. Thinking now maybe there really are good guy aliens out there helping...never put much stock in "help" before but hey, I have been known to be wrong once or twice

I'm hoping WE can hit a meteor ourselves, by now . Yeah, I'm all for anyones help . "star wars' was being developed in Reagan's era, and Nick Tesla was active before that, ;D. So . . . Don't you guys recall the crazy stuff I used to post about dreaming that we were already able to do some cloaking??

I just found out that there was another huge meteorite that hit Russia back on February 12, 1947. It was supposedly the first historically recorded meteor that impacted the earth and left a crater, and was the second largest meteor impact since the Tunguska explosion. The meteor was estimated to weigh about 100 tons and exploded in mid-air before plowing into the ground leaving about 120 craters, the largest of which was 20 feet deep and 90 feet wide. Many meteor fragments have been recovered from this impact including some that weigh several thousand pounds. Here is a link to read a little more about it. project1947.com/gfb/sikhote_alin.htmWhat I really find interesting about this is that, including the recent meteor explosion that occurred in February of this year, the three largest meteors in recent recorded history have all come down over Russia. Is that just a coincidence or is something else going on here?

That's a good question...and another one (for me) is why is there only one neat impact from this most recent meteor? Seems to me it would have made a bigger impression on the ground than it did. There's just the one big hole.

Later I seen this guy speaking from our local news station live. Wow I thought this is that guy. He works for the Peoria news channel. I have seen him time and time again. He does special programs such as raising money for handicap children in the community. He does not get on the TV screen much... So I go dig up my twenty year old tape about the missile launch . I get his name and his name is the same as our local man David Jacobs.. . I often wanted to write to him for years to tell him what I have witness. I may be able to find him on u-tube. My tapes are so many and only on VHS which are hard to copy. His name is David Jacobs .. could not find the show I mentioned but David has told his story many times since sightings tv show. He has been on Larry King live before. This one here was the first I found just now.. So yes... I believe they could hit a meteorite also.
