DHS to release thousands of illegal immigrants, blaming budget cuts
By Judson Berger Published February 26, 2013 The Department of Homeland Security has started releasing hundreds of illegal immigrants held in local jails in anticipation of automatic budget cuts, in a move one Arizona sheriff called politically motivated -- and dangerous. Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said Tuesday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement released more than 500 detainees in his county alone over the weekend. A spokesman for Babeu told FoxNews.com that ICE officials have said they plan to release a total of nearly 10,000 illegal immigrants. Babeu described the move as a "mass budget pardon" and suggested the administration was going to unnecessary lengths to demonstrate the impact of the so-called sequester. "President Obama would never release 500 criminal illegals to the streets of his hometown, yet he has no problem with releasing them in Arizona. The safety of the public is threatened and the rule of law discarded as a political tactic in this sequester battle," he said. An ICE official confirmed the plans without specifying how many illegal immigrants might be released. Spokeswoman Gillian Christensen said ICE had directed field offices to make sure the "detained population" is "in line with available funding." She stressed that ICE would continue to prosecute the cases while keeping them under supervision. "Over the last week, ICE has reviewed several hundred cases and placed these individuals on methods of supervision less costly than detention," she said. "All of these individuals remain in removal proceedings. Priority for detention remains on serious criminal offenders and other individuals who pose a significant threat to public safety." The announcement comes after DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano on Monday warned about the potential impact of the cuts. She said the department "would not be able to maintain the 34,000 detention beds as required by Congress." Ok. First of all the sequester was Obama's idea. He is the one who came up with it and he is the one who wanted it passed by congress so if anything bad happens because of it it will be his fault. Second, there are no budget cuts in the sequester. There are actually no cuts at all. All they would be doing is reducing the amount of spending increases. Each agency would still spend just as much if not more money than they did last year. Third, is when did they even start arresting illegal aliens? I've never seen any of them arrested so how could they release 1000s of them? This sounds to me like nothing more than a political maneuver just like everything else those clowns in Washington do. It's just politics as usual.

Nancy Pelosi when speaker of the House said that there were 20,000,000 illegals in the US. 10% or 2,000,000 came here with felony records and are walking the streets doing what felons do. Under Obama gang membership has increased 40% to 1,400,000 armed gang members who are in effect private armies controlled by war lords. there were 500 gun murders in Chicago last year none shot by rifles. 80% of these murders were related to Cartels moving into Chicago and taking over the streets. Cartels are now in 1,285 American cities. These folk can import all the fire power they want including rocket grenades The media is covering up alot of crime in Chicago and else where playing it down. Keeping the people happy. we are mislead by a dog and pony show on gun control and told to rely on shotguns to face an invasion by foreign controlled armies Gun control worked so well for Mexico Things are so plainly our of control and mismanaged. Our culture and traditions are worth fighting for to be passed on to our grandkids

Just to play the Devil's Advocate (the other side)(or another side). Of the 2,000,000 (quoted in Randy's post above) how many of those records have to do with being political dissenters in their own countries - whistle blowers, wrong religion, labor organizers??? I for sure don't want someone who has made their money murdering or extorting people or selling drugs to arrive in North America (in my case Canada) and stay and set up shop. And for sure, they do. We just had the largest bust for cocaine in our area yesterday - the police recovered a quarter of a million dollars IN CASH and about a pound of cocaine weighed up in small quantities. The persons arrested were asian - either Vietnamese or Combodian or Laotian by their apparence and surnames. The RCMP had spent a year watching them and getting enough proof to get a warrant (which probably meant undercover buys). They probably spent a large amount of money as well. This family will be replaced in the drug trade within 6 weeks - possibly even by extended family members. I've been hearing about the Vietnamese drug trade in Campbell River for the 15 years I worked in that community. They also dabble in teen prostitution as well - their dealers like a little sugar when they come to make their buys. Do I want them here. No.
But I also recently met a man who is now living here with his wife and child (who are Canadian). He ran for his life from Chile and had Red Cross letter substanciating that he and his family would be killed if he stayed. He was a whistle blower. He is gentle and intelligent and articulate and I am so happy that he made it through the refugee process. Being well educated and having good references no doubt helped. Not everyone arriving from war-torn and junta held territory is so lucky. Candia is clamping down but IMO on weird folks - like an old grandfather who's been here living with his family for 5 years and has no one left where he came from to care for him. Or an 18 year old who is being sent back and doesn't even speak the language of the country his parents came from!

I'm all in favor of people immigrating to this country but I would like for it to be done legally, not by sneaking across the border and breaking the law. I want the people who come here to obey the law, not be criminals and drug dealers. We have enough of those already. So here Obama is releasing thousands of illegal immigrants, many of whom are criminals, just to gain some political points by blaming it on the Republicans, even though it was his idea to do it in the first place. Is that really going to help the rest of the immigrants who want to come here? When thousands of illegals suddenly start flooding the population, committing crimes and competing with honest law-abiding citizens for jobs that are already in short supply are people going to feel better about illegal immigrants or is it going to turn people against legal immigrants as well as the illegals? The politicians need to stop playing with people's lives like they are nothing but pawns on a chess board.

I'm all for people coming here also from all parts of the world, that's what made this country what it is. I have what I consider a son who is hispanic. Kelly has two sons who are of vietnamese decent. I'm not racially biased and do not discriminate. Like Morgan said though, only if they do it the legal way. The borders need to be sealed thoroughly and illegal refugees deported, criminals first. Solution ? Send our soldiers to the borders. We live in times where other countries want to take us out and our borders are in jeopardy. I do not know what this administration, or any former administration, has been thinking along these terms. It's beyond me. I like what Sheriff Joe arpaio of Arizona is doing,,,,, it's too bad others above the totem wont stand behind him.

I am all for immigration...legally. We shouldn't have to bear the burden of thousands upon thousands of illegal immigrants out of work and on welfare and it happens all too often. Sure you can make money here..but the cost of living is a lot more than minimum wage jobs when it comes to supporting a family. Welfare picks up the tab..our debt goes up. These budget cuts are going to dump a lot of people into unemployment..already has. Cool...you're saving money by honing down the gov..loosing it by having all of those people unemployed. Suppose if we took over mexico..we could kick out the bad guys and start over???

I would just add, they need to speak our language, and as part of being "legal", they have to hold a driver's license. I say driver's license because I don't think we should be to the point of checking everyone's I.D. in every household. Sure, they can check everyones' I.D. in a car thats been pulled over, right?
LA has had immigrants ever since I was a child, and probably before. I know of this personally. Things were a lot more friendly between us then, and it shows. As an adult, I have heard "trash-talk" about my color from the hispanic culture, and it's sad.

My wifes father was born in Mexico and came here legally, My grand parents on my mothers side immigrated here. My adopted daughter is Vietnamese. I am not against immigration but I feel that leaving the door open invites those who would normally not be allowed into the US such as felons and others who are dangerous and a burden on our society. 2,000,000 illegal felons are alot of felons walking our streets and they have already demonstrated a tendency towards crime and violence. I have done addictions counseling in the local state dept of corrections and those noble folk think about crime 24/7 Finish one crime they are planning the next sometimes several in the same day. They are scarey folk some of them. Nice young woman on drugs and its armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon.Take that times 2,000,000 and you get alot of unneeded crime and bodies. We arrest an illegal for a crime and if the felons home land refuses to take them back by law we have to release them in 6 mo Usually felons do not want to pick sugar beets for cheap wages. They wan the money. Toss in the incurable TB they brought to LA and it is a devils brew.
