What would you do if you came across an abandoned farmhouse? You'd walk in and take a bunch of incredible photos, right? RIGHT?

O.K., maybe we would be way too chicken, but photographer Niki Feijen was not. And we're thankful for that -- because otherwise, we'd never see this astonishingly intact glimpse into the past. As you'll see in the photos below, the home's rooms are still furnished with the former occupant's belongings, right down to a decorated sideboard.

And from the "More You Know Department": Feijen specializes in urban exploration, which describes the act of going where one isn't supposed to go. (Think: closed-off tunnels, boarded-up churches and homes located in ghost towns.)

But such exploits come with a downside. In a caption on one of the below photos, Feijen writes: "The farm houses about 60,000 dead flies and an incredible foul smell coming from the [two] freezers downstairs."

Wow auntym .. reminds me of our neighbors home when I was a little girl. She even had her husband in his civil war clothing next to her . Both large bubbled frames . right above the fireplace. He old grand father clock in the room .. I can still hear it chime.. two stuff seated rockers in front of the fireplace facing the those portraits of a long ago pass.

She must of sat there night after night, but in the summer she would sit out on her porch. No air conditioning in those days. They took her away at age 98 I believe for a nursing home. I had just got out of highschool that summer. She was the one who haunted her own home . My brother seen her unlocking all the doors and the attached shed door which connected to her kitchen. I posted this story under my experiences. My brother and few friends were in her shed when they were not suppose to be. They seen her unlock the kitchen door and proceed to unlock the shed. My brother and two other boys jumped out the window.. ;D She had 18,000 dollars in a money bell around her waist... when they undressed her at the nursing home. ..

I was always telling my Mother Old lady Stevenson sure has a large belly.. ;D She was very small and thin which made me notice it so easily.. I took over Sunday dinner to her which my Mother cooked every Sunday. she would beg me to stay and talk.. Wish I had paid more attention to her and what she said . I do remember a lot of it..her husband had been dead for decades... when my parents moved into the yellow house... . Poor old lady..

auntym Don't these homes have owners today. Why leave property all these years. So strange if you ask me.

I went into a old abandoned three room home which sat near a creek which is now a huge lake south of Bloominton to metal detect. All the wall paper was partly still in tact.. One could not pull it off as it just crumbled.. But the head lines all read events of the civil war. That is how long no one had been in this place to live.. I did not find anything A old horse harness which took me forever to get out of the ground. The leather strapping was rotted away. and a tiny child shoe under the wide planks of the kitchen floor. It lace all the way up pass the ankle . the hook like instead of eyelets on them..

hi lois... IDK... aren't they great, like stepping back in time... my guess would be no, because they were abandoned... i keep wondering about some of the furniture in the house ... ie... dishes, pictures...rugs, , i wonder if they would be worth anything...

i also can't help wonder why people would just up and leave their home... sad

Oh WOW!! That house is so cool! I bet there's a thousand ghosts in there. I bet that stuff is worth a fortune too. It looks like all antique furniture and stuff. I wonder where it is? Wherever it is I wanna go there.

I wonder how that Niki person keeps from getting shot? Is niki a he or a she? If somebody tried sneaking into abandoned houses where I live they would get turned into a ghost!

I wonder what happened to the people that lived there? They must have died or something. Nobody would just leave all their stuff like that.

I still wanna go there. I'll take my chances with the shotguns. ;D
