I think that most of the ones that appeared up north were Chinese lanterns...especially those that were on the 31st and 1st. The first one you posted in San Diego didn't look like a lantern to me though. Not sure what's going on out there.
There were sightings up in Oregon also.

Ha! We have more UFOs here in Texas than we can shake a stick at. We just sent a few of them out your way so y'all wouldn't feel left out.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure I spotted one with 'Cowboys' on the side..had a lot of scorch marks like someone had been using it for target practice
