The Blue Snow

Summer of 1952.
It was the late winter of 1953.
I was two years old and living at 1404 Prospect Ave.
My mother had just gone up stairs to pay our baby-sitter leaving me, Chuck, and our baby brother Ralph under the charge of Theresa.
After my having just lost a fight over the TV with Theresa, I wanted to see Crusader Rabbit and Rags the Tiger cartoons, she wanted to see some *bleep* teen dance show Sock Hop.
I being the little pisser that I was even back then was standing by the window looking out onto our darkening backyard mimicking as badly as I could the Doo-wop songs coming from the TV.
I was thinking, "She may see it but I'll see to it she won't enjoy it!"
Then suddenly a blue green turquoise glowing snow like substance began drifting down from the clear evenings sky.
It vanished, not melted as it landed on the windowsill.
Amazed at this beautiful sight I called Chuck and Theresa to the window to see it.
Chuck took one look at it and gasped "Oh no they are coming back!"
He then went into a panic such, as I have never seen him do before or after then.
"They're coming back! They're coming back! They're coming back!" he started to scream over and over at the top of his lungs.
Here is where
I did something that still bothers me instead of looking to the backyard I looked to the sky and then asked Theresa, "Who's coming back?"
Even then as I did this I asked myself "Why am I looking at the sky?"
I looked to Theresa and asked her "Who's coming back?" then again to the sky and again back to Theresa.

She said nothing but just turned pale and began to shake and strike Chuck in an attempt to snap him out of it.
When this did not work she raced out into the hall way and upstairs to get Mother who was upstairs paying our daytime baby sitter Miss Lloyd.
Even over the TVs *bleep* Doo-wop, Chuck's repeating screams of,
"They're coming back! They're coming back! They're coming back!”
I could hear Theresa running upstairs calling,
" Mother! Mother! There's something wrong with Chuck."
"Theresa, what's all that noise?" I heard Mother ask.
"That's Chuck he won't stop screaming, he won't stop crying." I heard Theresa repeat.
Then came the rumbling of the stairs as Mother and Miss Lloyd both being big women came thundering down them closely followed by Theresa's dainty little tip tapping on their heels.
But by the time they came rushing into the apartment the stuff had stopped falling and as soon as it did Chuck just snapped out of it.
During all the excitement and welcomed relief no one even asked what happened or mentioned the blue snow again.
And gradually as I grew older I eventually relegated it to having been just a dream I once had as a child.
Some forty years later after reading about blue snow falls in Charles Fort's Book Of the *bleep*, I believe it was, I first posted a short version of this story online I received this E-mail.
For that person's privacy I will not disclose their full name nor will I give out their e-mail address.
My every body hair bristled in cat like fashion in sweeping waves over my body.

On Wed 4/17/02 I received an e-mail from a visitor at my site.
Info about "BLUE SNOW"
Hello Posey,
My name is Logan and I have another story very similar to yours.
To start off I have a Calendar here at work "
2002 UNEXPLAINED PHENOMENA CALENDAR" ---
Published by: Accord Publishing LTD/UPC (303)298-1300
/www.accordpublishing.com---
Anyway...
For every day the calendar has a new story and today's story relates to yours, it may not help, but its similar...
I opened up to today's date April 17th 2002 and read this story here below...
"As they drove near Dana Point California, one day in April 1953, a couple watched in amazement as blue, glowing snow fell all around them.
They stepped out of their car for a better look, which proved a mistake.
By the next day they had blisters on their skin, and a rash covered their faces, arms, and hands.
Their physician could not explain the effects, and meteorologists could not explain the snow."
So I just went on the Internet and did a search of (blue snow + 1953 + California) and a link to your
Site was there.
Maybe the publishing company can tell you where they got the info on the story, or maybe research that section of California.
This was very interesting to me; if you don't mind let me know if you find more info on any of this.
Thanks...
Well, I hope this info may be at least a little useful to know you're not the only one...
Oh yeah, one more thing at the end of every story in this calendar is the name -J. Clark.
Good luck, Logan

Then some years later I was lead by my Muse to this Fate Magazine article.
---------------------------------------------
On reading this article I called Chuck and asked him if he remembered the night that the blue snow fell?
"Damn, you can remember that night?" he gasped over the phone,
"You were just a baby then!"
"Then it did happen?" I asked.
"Hell yeah it happened!" he laughed.
"So tell me, who was coming back?"
Silence, and a nervous chuckle, was my only answer.
Then some years later as we sat on the front porch of our parents home in Martinsville Virginia talking about the old days, Chuck said something that gave me a clue as to who way back then he feared was coming back.
He told me of his oldest remembered nightmares.
In it he found himself standing alone in the kitchen at 1404.
It was late at night the house was empty the kitchen window and the back door was open and he was crying and calling for Mother.
Suddenly a huge gray wolf raced in through the open back door and stopped, glared at him and through snarling lips and bared teeth sneered teasingly "Mutha, Mutha."
My every body hair bristled in cat like fashion in sweeping waves over my body.
Having just read Communion a book that neither he nor Ralph would read beyond the apple crunch I knew the possible symbolism behind that big gray wolf.
Update
In 2010 Chuck died never having answered my question as to:
"Who it was, that he thought was coming back?"
