That is going to scare the crap out of every little kid on this planet...including the ones who saw the original movie and are now grown up. I don't know if that was a wise thing to do to a what was originally a lovable little alien-dude.

A red-headed Amazon with no alcohol tolerance... LOL... ~hugs and smoochies to bewildered again~

It is a fake. Good gosh almighty! I didn't even know they made fake movie trailers. What's the point? Are they gauging the public's reaction to see whether or not they could get away with making it for real? The way Hollywood has been remaking everything nowadays it would not surprise me the slightest bit if they did make it for real. I have to admit they did a halfway decent job with it. That fake trailer was better than most of the real movies I have seen lately.

As far as "E.T." is concerned, you can bet your britches that Spielberg would cash in on anything to do with it that would be bona-fide.

OK - you think that there isn't a movie coming out called extinction? And that there are LOTS of fake movie trailers? I know that they cut and pasted Obama. Were the other parts too? And Reese's pieces (I have to admit that's pretty goofy). I obviously do not "get around" to see this stuff. If its fake, somebody spent a fair amount of money doing it.

The very first clue was the "MPAA" advisory at the beginning of the video. That alone gave it away as a faux movie trailer: when I saw it, I knew what I was looking at. There were so many things wrong with it: the color of the screen, and the content of the "advisory." MPAA preview advisories are typically delivered on a green background, not red. The verbage was also a giveaway. When it appears, stop the video and read it. You'll see exactly what I mean. paulette: With the right software, I could pull off something similar. All you need is the knowledge and ability to edit digital footage. It's not expensive to do at all...just what you spend on the software. In days gone by, such things would have required very expensive hardware and a great deal of technical knowledge. Now, your average PC can handle the processing and your software takes care of the technical details. All you need is the will: there is a way. @sky: Why do people perpetrate hoaxes? Good question. They do it all the time, regardless of whether we understand it or not. Perhaps what is of greater concern to me is how easy it is to assemble hoaxes using digital media, utilizing the internet as the vector of transmission. How do you know that what you see on the internet is real at all?

Perhaps what is of greater concern to me is how easy it is to assemble hoaxes using digital media, utilizing the internet as the vector of transmission. How do you know that what you see on the internet is real at all? That is a good question, dude. How do we know anything on the internet is real? For that matter, how do we know any information we get is real? Any writing in books or newspapers can be fictional, TV can be faked, photos and videos can be faked, eye-witness testimony can be wrong or deliberately false. Everything we learn in the schools and news media could be nothing but indoctrination and propaganda for all we know. I suppose the only things we can really know for certain are those we experience ourselves...and even that has to be questioned at times. I tend to rely on common sense. If it makes sense to me than it I will accept it, if not then I won't. I knew there was something strange about that ET trailer. I could not believe they would ever destroy ET's cute and cuddly image like that. It would be a marketing disaster. Just think of all the potential merchandising revenue they would lose.

LOL... *shrug* I have no real tolerance for the sauce either, and I'm not exactly a small person myself. Look at the bright side, Lorelei. Two drinks cost much less than, say, six or eight. More bang for your buck. As far as the trailer is concerned...I'm just a cynical skeptic. I'm not by any means infallible but I can usually spot a sham when I see it. Sometimes, right away (like this one); other times, I might need to take a walk or two around the block and think about it.

Example of a hoax: www.dhmo.org/Credible in appearance, and quite able to suck you in by taking advantage of our tendency to react emotionally, and not critically, to external stimuli. This hoax is nothing but a continuance of an earlier one, found here: www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/dhmo.htmWhat gives the hoax away? Why, the very title itself: dihydrogen monoxide. It's H2O...or water in everyday parlance. ;D I bring this one up because of how effective it was. A "petition" calling for the ban of this highly dangerous substance was circulated by different people at different times...with great success, I might add. This is not an illustration of how "dense" people are. It's just an exercise in demonstrating how we commonly react to things.

Many people commonly react to things with igannance, which is why they should not react to it, but I guess they are igannant of that as well.
