Ghost Camp and Paranormal Festival/ SEPT 11 -- 14TH
by Jim Hanzo
The 2nd annual New Orleans Paranormal Festival at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel is this week. The event is complete with a ghost hunter's symposium, a ghosts of the river ride on the Steamboat Natchez and a seance in the Bourbon Orleans famous Quadroon Ballroom.
Organizers say it's sure to be a fun filled 4 days for the Ghost Camp, if it doesn't scare the pants off you.
Etienne Skrabo with Grayline New Orleans explains why it's at the Bourbon Orleans.
"That building in the French Quarter is one of the most haunted spaces here, it's got a really great story behind it," said Skrabo. "They came in last year with infrared cameras with all the lights off, and we got actually two very good images, one of them looks like a young girl and the other looks like a nun, so that was kind of interesting because we'd never gotten anything like that on film before."
Many downtown chimed on whether they believe in ghosts.
One woman told us she moved out of her home because it was haunted. Others think that ghosts exist even through they haven't had an encounter.
"Sure, believe in them, never seen them," said one woman.
"No, not all, that's pretty out there," said one man.
"I believe in spirits," said another woman. "My son was a baby, and he kept following something with his eyes and smiling so I just assumed it was a spirit of a dead relative."
The Bourbon Orleans Hotel ranks as one of New Orleans top haunted hotels with several spirits, including ghost children and female apparitions from a yellow fever epidemic in New Orleans, and the story of the Confederate Soldier that supposedly surrounds both the third and sixth floors.
The Ballroom, is also home of a lonely ghost dancer, which has been seen dancing underneath the ballroom's crystal chandelier.
The Paranormal Festival and Ghost Camp run through the 14th.
