Millions of dead sardines were found floating in Southern California Harbor. First report was they died of oxygen deprivation now..they have found neurotoxins to go along with that idea and figure there may be a bird die off from those eating the sardines. Neurotoxin said to have come from eating plankton during toxic algae blooms. Yay. That and floating garbage piles has to be good news for the oceans yes? news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110312/ap_on_re_us/us_fish_die_off

There have been planktonic fish kills for a long time - but NOT giant unoxygenated dead zones. The first significant one was in the Gulf of Mexico off the Mississippi. Then Oregon and California. Guess what organism can tolerate low oxygen? Jellyfish. And when stressed jellyfish move from an asexual slow budding form of reproduction to a sexual generation in which the immobile "mother" forms offspring that are free swimming and each and each one capable of producing millions of offspring.
PS. I have seen a recipe for eating jellyfish. I don't think I would like it to be my major food source. Oh...and squid do fairly well in low oxygen conditions. Welcome to the MacD's menu of the near future...

Well, there has got to be something that eats jellyfish and whatever it is will be chowing down for a while. Then there will be something that eats that and something that eats that and so on... I think the Earth knows what it is doing.
Now if it could just figure out a way to get rid of all of these darned people everything would be groovy.
