This my National UFO Reporting Center report. I had a couple UFO experiences this past summer.
Occurred : 7/1/2010 21:00 (Entered as : 07/01/10 21:00) Reported: 7/2/2010 12:52:05 PM 12:52 Posted: 7/6/2010 Location: XXX, CA Shape: Circle Duration:1 1/2 hours Light flashes, dark grey "satellite", periwinkle blue and white "satellite"
It was a busy night star gazing as I saw numerous unusual sky phenomena between Scorpio and Corona Borealis. All this took place between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. local time.
Around 9 p.m. I went out for my evening star gazing and watching the satellites go by.
At the start I saw what I can only describe as flashes of light in the sky. The flashes of light looked like a flash from a camera. Then I observed what I thought was a satellite until the satellite went from moving from a northern to southern direction to veering to a southwesterly direction. Satellites do not normally change their directional course as they cannot. They always move in the same direction without veering off course. This satellite seemed to be dark gray in color and was silhouetted against the night sky. I saw this with my naked eye.
Then I saw the similar flashes of light again. After this I saw another "satellite" that was moving across the sky. This time the satellite stopped, then let off a "pouf" of periwinkle to white color, then moved again.
I observed through binocs what seemed to be a lighted object with periwinkle and white lights. This satellite then moved and faded away.
Approximately a half hour later this same satellite reappeared towards the southwest portion of the sky and repeated the same set of movements and colorations before fading out.
I saw the flashes of light each time before the bluish white satellite reappeared.
This was also seen by another witness who was with me. This witness would like to remain anonymous.
I checked Heavens Above and could find nothing that might fit what we saw. Perhaps you can find something.
None of this stuff was close. It was all probably just inside the earth's atmosphere at a good guess.

If it is changing directions it can't be a satelite. They don't go "Poof" either. What color is periwinkle?

This reminds me of a story my husband told me a few years ago. He was out with the dogs before bed and watching what he thought was a satellite. As he was watching it, it turned and changed direction. I think he said it made a 90 degree turn.
Yet, I thought I read somewhere that spy satellites can turn and change direction. Anyone else read this?

Some satellites do have thrusters on board that can allow them to make minor course corrections but they do not have enough fuel or thrust to make drastic changes in direction, especially in a short period of time. Also, satellites in orbit are moving thousands of miles per hour so it would take a huge amount of thrust to make a drastic course correction and the sudden change would likely cause it to drop out of orbit and come crashing down to Earth. From the description she gave I seriously doubt that what mdaisy saw was a satellite. Airplane perhaps?

I can assure you these were not satellites. I have seen satellites moving across the evening sky and they run either east to west or north to south or slight variations between. They do not turn and change directions. They do not change color. They do not look like a gray silhouette either. There were a total of three objects seen during this experience. The two with the periwinkle blue lights (looked like they were "fighting") and the gray object that was separate from the two lit ones.
It was one of the most amazing experiences I've had in a long while. And it was witnessed.

Hi everyone, new to this board after finding it on google search for "saw satellite change direction". I am an amateur satellite watcher also. I live in Louisville, Ky. I have also seen this same anomaly. First time in Feb. 2011 around 8pm and again tonight 6/8/11 about 12 midnight. My typical sights generally orbit north to south, plus or minus 45°. But the first and second anomaly came directly from the west, traveling east and turned 90° heading north. The first was as bright as Saturn. I noticed it actually seemed to be slowing down a little bit, then a flash of fuzzy orange light about 1/4 the size of the moon and it was heading north at a much slower speed than before. The second tonight was harder to see, 3 hrs. after sunset plus humidity in the air, about 3 magnitude. But again came from west to east, did not see flash, but headed north at slower velocity. Sorry this sounds freak'in crazy, but I have a 140 IQ , don't drink or do drugs and know the difference between planes and satellites. I don't believe in aliens, but I know military technology is way more advanced than the public will ever know for many decades to come. My personal theory is possible electromagnetic propulsion, using the earths magnet field. I usually see 2 to 3 unlisted satellites on nights I can watch. So these really don't seem odd to me, just peculiar. I prefer to use the term UOO's ,Unlisted Orbiting Objects. So there it is. Put me in a straight jacket and check me in to the internet loony farm. I don't hang out on bulletin boards, so here's my email if anyone wants to chat more(god, here comes the spam) gcrady@juno.com

Most of the people who are here are here because they have seen or experienced something which cannot be explained, or something which is difficult to explain. Feel free to post any of your unusual sightings of UOOs on here if you would like to. We would love to read about it... if you would like to share that is. As far as the looney bin goes, I do have an extra strait jacket if you'd like one. I've lost some weight and it doesn't quite fit me anymore so the doctor had to purchase a new one for me (kidding by the way). And believe me, if anyone belongs in the looney bin, it's me and not you.

Welcome and I do hope you hang around to post at the board. That way we can share our experiences with everyone.
No, you are not crazy as I've seen odd "satellites" throughout the years. I have seen "satellites" that have changed direction several times. They were all white though. I do believe I saw an orangish one too but I have to think about it. That's why I try to post what I observe here right after seeing it so there is a record.
My IQ is not as high as yours, and I don't drink, and I sure don't know what the heck we are seeing is either. I'd love to know.

These still don't sound like satellites to me. I just don't see how a satellite could stop and change direction. That totally goes against the scientific principles that allow a satellite to stay in orbit. I suppose anything is possible though, and like lo9 said there is a lot of technology that we do not know about. Having said that though, there are other things that could have caused the sighting besides satellites, like perhaps one of the high-altitude surveillance aircraft that is rumored to be floating around up there as part of the Aurora or Blackstar projects. I'm sure there are a lot of highly sophisticated things floating around up there that we civilians know nothing about.

Hi and welcome lo9, I hope you enjoy the forum We don't have the means of knowing (maybe not of understanding) a fraction of what our universe has to offer. Science will find that there are experiences beyond our understanding of physics and we will find ourselves as challenged as we allow ourselves to be. We are drawn to this forum by our interests in the things that go beyond the boundaries. M Daisy..it certainly doesn't sound like any run of the mill satelite As Sky says..they have maneuvering thrusters but can't carry the fuel for any major changes in their orbits. As for a belief in UFO's...we pride ourselves in honoring everyone's beliefs. There are people who have been abducted, had life changing experiences and seen things they can't define. We have UFO investigators, experiencers and skeptics alike. Keep watching

The UFO phenomena is nebulous enough to drive anyone nutty Sharing information and experiences, at least for me, helps me realize I am not alone. There is also more to life than meets the eye. Mdaisy

Nebulous is a perfect description. I've had one experience, one abduction and I am still skeptical. I still know no little more than I did. No idea of why they come, where they come from or who they are. All that I have are assorted impressions, feelings and memories that I'd just as soon not have without the answers. I know that we will all know one day..until then nebulous works very well
