Intact since 1956 - tidy (other than the fact that the roof has partially fallen in. All the woman's possessions (who lived alone) still there. No one came to move anything or even do anything with the property. Eerie.

I'm surprised thieves haven't broken in and stolen everything. That's what usually happens. Some of that old furniture would be worth quite a bit of money.

I'm surprised thieves haven't broken in and stolen everything. That's what usually happens. Some of that old furniture would be worth quite a bit of money. That is what I was thinking sky. This reminds me of a day in my life I have never told . Yep I missed one You know I like to take my detector out. Well My brother Maurice the baby who passed. He always went deer hunting down at Clinton Lake 20 minutes south of here. He came home one day and said I was chasing a deer Lois and i came across this old abandon house. It must be over a hundred year old out in the woods . You have to bring your detector with you. He took me through the most godforsaken walk I Have ever climbed and slide down more hills and climbed over a thousand trees. I don't know how he got us out again but he did. It sat on a creek. settlers always did that and a very high North bank behind it to block the wind. I step in and it was all boarded floors which had rotted away in places. Most of the rafters were gone. A tree I mean a pretty good size tree. grew up from the kitchen floor. right on up through the roof. I found a little girls shoe about a size 5 it had hooks all the way up high above the ankles. Then we went into the living room. there was one old table with rotted lace table cloth off on the floor. I looked around the room and noticed that had wall papered it with Newspapers . I went over and started reading . most of it was still readable. It was newspapers from the civil war. A war prisoner had been hung around there some place. A article on Grant. something about a device made for sewing machine a little like the old tremble sewing machine. If you tried to touch it the paper just crumbled. Boy would i ever of loved to taken if all off the plaster. It had been wall papered many times. A oval mirror was against the wall. the out house still stood what there was left of it. I told Maurice. this is nothing but a junk hole you brought me too. He said well you save old pottery don't you and took me out back. tons of vases like they were home made. Lot of colorful broken glass. Some very good stoneware in tact. I said are you going to carry this stuff back for me. I thought I would be glad to just walk out of here in one piece. A old barn still stood , better shape than the house. First thing I did was look up in the rafters. People forget to look there when they leave. Just some old planks and an old rotted wicker chair. so I finally decided to turn on my metal detector. It hit something huge right away. I started digging and it was metal mixed with rotted leather. I keep on and finally got a good hold . I ripped it up out of the dirt. It was an old horse harness. I though good lord. all that for this old thing. Maurice would not leave it behind. There was a place where they had burned the trash. it was still ashes in the dirt. I dug around that darn area forever . I told Maurice again. There is nothing here. these people were dirt poor. Probably never had over a few dollars at one time in their lives. He did carry out a water pitcher for me. I still have it blue pottery . In dented marks on the bottom but you cannot read it. I still today will think of my dear brother and remember that place. I will never forget that civil war wall paper news paper. I would tell him later on as years went by. Morrie I did have a lot of fun that day. I forgot to say and old carpet was out back.
