Friday I was home and Terry finishing up his work week. I was happy to have the house to myself but I did have one task that needed doing - going to our Credit Union and getting a form signed so that I could receive my US pension by direct deposit. As I got ready to leave the house I felt more and more breathless and anxious. It wasn't until I was driving across town that I realized that I was doing a good-enough job of driving but that I could barely feel my hands and feet. I was panting.
When I said, "THIS IS A FRIGGING PANIC ATTACK"! it pulled back enough that I could complete the bank part, get to a post office (not so easy anymore and finish off the form and sign it and pay for the stamp 1.50$ Canadian and see it put in the out box behind the desk. Then and only then did my heartbeat return to normal and my day start to look doable and normal.
That's how much I fear interactions with the US government. Harper (our Prime Minister) recently put through an omnibus bill that was many pages long and was approved by his majority legislature without question. One of new laws is: If a person is threat to Canada or commits a serious crime - they can be sent back to the country they have dual citizenship with. Since he thinks that anyone who disagrees with him (and says so, or sings a song, or holds up a sign) is a TERRORIST, i feel pretty rattled about all this. I've lived here for 40 years! I was 27 when I got here, basically spent my whole life here. I would be (I am) terrified about the prospect of returning to the USA.
Hence the panic attack. A strong reaction to even HANDLING paperwork.

You feel panic about having to deal with the government? Welcome to the club, Paulette. That's pretty much how the other six billion of us feel every time we have to do it. I hate the stupid bleepity-bleeps and all of their stupid rules and regulations. Hate them. I bet if the idiot politicians had to live under the aggravating laws that they make they would change every one of them.
