NASA debunks Anonymous claim of imminent alien life discoveryBy Frank Miles Published June 26, 2017
Last week a YouTube video purportedly posted by hacker collective Anonymous said that NASA was set to announce the discovery of intelligent alien life.
However, that’s untrue!
“While we’re excited about the latest findings from NASA’s Kepler space observatory, there’s no pending announcement regarding extraterrestrial life. For years NASA has expressed interest in searching for signs of life beyond Earth. We have a number of science missions that are moving forward with the goal of seeking signs of past and present life on Mars and ocean worlds in the outer solar system. While we do not yet have answers, we will continue to work to address the fundamental question, ‘are we alone?’” said Laurie Cantillo, NASA Lead Communications Specialist, in a statement emailed to Fox News.
Ten new planets outside earth’s solar system that are likely the right size and temperature to potentially support life on them recently had been found by the Kepler space observatory, NASA’s planet-hunting telescope.
The 10 planets are among 219 new planets announced by NASA last Monday.
The latest research is based on observations made by Kepler during the first four years of its primary mission.
Anonymous centered their video also on comments made by Thomas Zurbuchen, Associate Administrator, NASA Science Mission Directorate, at a recent congressional hearing of the committee on Advances in the Search for Life on April 26.
“Taking into account all of the different activities and missions that are specifically searching for evidence of alien life, we are on the verge of making one of the most profound, unprecedented, discoveries in history,” Zurbuchen said.
“With all of this activity related to the search for life, in so many different areas, we are on the verge of one of the most profound discoveries, ever,” he added. “And as we know from experience, NASA’s scientific discoveries of today continually drive impactful research for tomorrow that goes far beyond the initial observations.”

No, NASA Hasn't Found Alien Life By Mike Wall, Space.com Senior Writer June 26, 2017
NASA is not preparing to drop an alien-life bombshell, despite what you may have heard.
Last week, the hacking group Anonymous posted a video on YouTube suggesting that the space agency is about to announce the discovery of life beyond Earth. The video has made a big splash online — so big that NASA science chief Thomas Zurbuchen addressed the rumor today (June 26).
"Contrary to some reports, there's no pending announcement from NASA regarding extraterrestrial life," Zurbuchen said via Twitter, where he posts as @dr_ThomasZ.
"Are we alone in the universe? While we do not know yet, we have missions moving forward that may help answer that fundamental question," he added in another tweet today.
Anonymous' video focuses not on hacked documents but rather on testimony Zurbuchen gave back in April during a hearing of the House of Representatives' Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. (The 12-minute video also touches on some other topics, including the seven Earth-size planets circling the star TRAPPIST-1 and several supposed UFO sightings.)
During the April 26 hearing, which was called "Advances in the Search for Life," Zurbuchen laid out the progress NASA has been making in the hunt for life in the cosmos. He cited, among other things, the thousands of exoplanets spotted by the agency's Kepler space telescope, the recent discovery of hydrogen in the geysers blasting from the south pole of Saturn's moon Enceladus, and the possible detection of water-vapor plumes emanating from the Jovian satellite Europa.
"Taking into account all of the different activities and missions that are specifically searching for evidence of alien life, we are on the verge of making one of the most profound, unprecedented discoveries in history," Zurbuchen said during the hearing.
In the recent video, Anonymous takes the second half of this sentence and runs with it.
"NASA: 'Mankind is about to discover extraterrestrial life,'" an Anonymous spokesman wearing the group's famous Guy Fawkes mask intones, with a digitally altered voice, at the beginning of the video.
This interpretation isn't strictly wrong. But "on the verge" is a far cry from "has found evidence," and anyone expecting an Earth-shattering announcement from NASA in the next few weeks or months is bound to be disappointed.

Even if they found alien life....I can't think of a single reason why they would admit it. Think too of the fiasco. Aliens? On another planet? Well what god do they worship? (No.1 question always goes to the religious order). Are they conservative or liberal? How can we trust them? OMG do they look like us?
I swear I hope the very first 'acknowledged in general' visitors are squid like with multiple rows of sharp pointy teeth. I get so annoyed lately by all of the petty bs over race, color, religion..political party. We're a nation of prejudiced, suspicious, whiners. When we (here in the states) have so MUCH more than most countries out there in freedom, financial means, educational means, religious freedoms and we are the loudest whiners.
My daughter somehow for who knows what reason has contracted a nasty nerve disease in her foot that doesn't have a cure but produces agony so intense she hasn't been able to sleep in 3 weeks..of course they have mis-diagnosed this 3 times (3 doctors) so treatment will begin just this morning..husband is still a hospice favorite, they visit only every other week 'giving him space'...and I'm absolutely not sure how I'll take care of his cremation or manage my own nervous breakdown once she can sleep again and he's gone to his 'reward'.
These are the sort of things we whine over.. A lot of other people wonder if they'll eat today. How they can feed their starving babies. I have a starving husband (pancreatitis) and I can see every rib he has...how do you think a mother in some 3'd world country feels seeing that in her baby? Or to know he has aids?
We need to start being a bit grateful. I'm grateful that hospice keeps him out of pain (morphine like candy) and that some doctor finally DID diagnose my daughter's problem...that maybe just maybe there is something out there to control it. So....what are YOU grateful for today? Find something and hang onto it tight.....it can always be worse.
