The Peekskill meteor of 1992 was captured on 16 independent videos and then struck a car. Documented as brighter than the full Moon, the spectacular fireball crossed parts of several USA states during its 40 seconds of glory before landing in New York. A video of the fireball beyond a high school football game in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, USA, is pictured above. The resulting meteorite is imaged here, and was found to be composed of dense rock and has the size and mass of an extremely heavy bowling ball. If you are lucky enough to find a meteorite just after impact, do not pick it up -- parts of it are likely to be either very hot or very cold. Tracking meteors origins and destinations might be easier in this modern digital age, but many security cameras videos that likely caught a bright fireball are not preserved. If you would like to volunteer to help meteor science by locating images and videos of newly occurring fireballs within 48 hours after they occur, here is a place to sign up. bb.nightskylive.net/asterisk/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=22715'Ole Bessy' got her shocks really bounced that day!

We actually see quite a few from our porch always coming in on the same trajectory..makes me think they could be debris.

That hot rock just missed penetrating the car's gas tank by inches.....

This reminds of a story my Mother told me as a child. She was still living at her parents home.So it had to be late teens or early 1920s.. She and her Mother was sitting out on the front porch, when they noticed a firball. As it got closer they got sort of worried. My grandfather told them. Oh that thing is thousands of miles from here..
So they stayed on the porch, then it got closer and closer.. My Mohter said to her Dad, that fireball is going to hit us head on.. she and her Mother both ran into the house. My grandfather was laughing again and went out on the porch.. He had no time to move.. this thing went right by his head along side the side railing of the porch he was peering over. It landed in their backyard..
It sits still in the bank window downtown till this day. It was a pretty good size about the size of a football. It glowed orange in the ground all night and the next day they were able to gazed at it.. He gave it to the city.. I guess they teased him about it as 25 years later when I was about 5 years old they were still not letting him forget it..
One never knows if they are ...in its path up to the last minute I guess.

Were your parents farmers just out of curiosity? The reason why I ask is farmers tend to have lots of babies...

I think your stories are fascinating.
